Although there were and are similar shows that cover this theme: true life crime stories, this Swedish production is of a higher quality, generally-speaking. Unlike many of this genre, especially American-made ones, here there is a very matter-of-fact, non-hysterical and non-exploitive format that quietly uncovers the crime and the aftermath. No unnecessary graphic depictions of crime scenes, no flamboyant self-serving lawyers, arrogant detectives or bombastic music that overwhelms anything. Unfortunately, Sweden (and in some cases here, Denmark, and other affected countries) has its fair share of drug-related, domestic, terrorist-inspired and all other kinds of crimes that occur in rural or urban environments, with perpetrators coming from every walk of life, as elsewhere. What stands out is the approach of the police, investigators and those interviewed. You feel yourself becoming 'involved' and having a stake in seeing how each episode unfolds, without that feeling of being a bystander at a crash site. A bit frustrating given how 'lenient' the sentences are compared to other jurisdictions, but Justice isn't often 'fair' or just. Well presented and produced show. A documentary series that both informs and 'entertains'.
