‘Andor’ Creator Tony Gilroy on His Emmy Nominations and Overcoming Those Snubs: ‘It’s a Complicated Process’
Image
“I’m trying to come up with a new word word for excited,” “Andor” creator Tony Gilroy said just a few hours after his show, set in the “Star Wars” universe, racked up 14 Emmy nominations. “I know that’s my job, but I’m having trouble coming up with something really, truly original to say.”

“Andor’s” second season, which takes place in the five years that lead up to 2016’s “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” which itself is set directly before the events of 1977’s “Star Wars,” had more nominations than Emmy powerhouses like “The Bear” (also part of the far-reaching Disney galactic republic). This is the final season of “Andor,” and it is very clearly going out on top.

Gilroy himself was nominated two times – for Outstanding Drama Series (as an executive producer of the series) and Original Music and Lyrics (as a songwriter), for “We are...

This Marvel Star’s 55% Rotten Tomatoes Spy Thriller From the Creator of 'Andor' Is Dominating Streaming
Image
Over the course of three movies, Matt Damon brought Jason Bourne — a character first crafted by author Robert Ludlum — to life in a series of films that some know as The Bourne Trilogy. After unfurling the character’s mysterious spy background and sending him on numerous missions, the time eventually came to pass the baton, with Jeremy Renner picking up the torch and continuing the high-octane franchise in 2012’s The Bourne Legacy. Now, more than a full decade since the divisive film first crashed into cinemas, it’s receiving a boost of new life thanks to its streaming arrival on Paramount+. According to FlixPatrol, the Tony Gilroy-directed and co-penned production is clocking in on the Top 10 chart in numerous countries, including Bolivia, Mexico, Peru, and Venezuela, alongside other popular titles such as Gladiator II and Top Gun: Maverick.

Although the first movie in the then-blossoming franchise, 2002’s The Bourne Identity,...

The Canceled Jason Bourne Spin-Off Series You Didn't Realize Existed
Image
It shouldn't be all that surprising that action franchises built around one unstoppable hero have a tough time extending their cinematic worlds beyond that central figure. Lionsgate is the latest studio to struggle in that regard, with John Wick himself proving to be the biggest problem with building out that particular cinematic universe. Try as they might, the studio and its burgeoning on-screen world can't escape the shadow of the Baba Yaga, as evidenced by the disappointment that was TV spin-off "The Continental." With the latest movie spin-off, "Ballerina," struggling at the box office, it looks like the John Wick saga might be dead in the water — at least until Keanu Reeves agrees to come back for one more round.

But the "John Wick" saga is far from the first action franchise to encounter this issue. Just look at the Jason Bourne films. Back in 2002, director Doug Liman and star...

Jackée Harry To Guest Star On Season 2 Of Netflix Comedy ‘A Man On The Inside’
Image
“Days of our Lives” star Jackée Harry (Paulina Price-Carver) will appear as a guest star on the Netflix comedy “A Man on the Inside,” starring Ted Danson (“Cheers”), when it returns for Season 2 later this year on the streaming service.

While details on the character she’ll be playing are being kept under wraps, Deadline, which first reported the news, says that Harry could return for more episodes should the show be renewed for a third season.

Based on the documentary “The Mole Agent,” which received an Oscar nomination in 2021 for Best Documentary Feature, the series follows retiree Charles (Danson), who gets a new lease on life when he answers an ad from a Pi and becomes a mole in a secret investigation.

Per Deadline, Season 2 of the show will follow an anthology format with Charles tackling a new case each season. In Season 2, he’ll go undercover at a college as a guest lecturer,...

'Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning' Has Doubled the Box Office Total of This Og Avenger's Critically Panned Action Franchise Sequel
Image
Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, Tom Cruise's final foray as Ethan Hunt, just finished its sixth weekend at the box office, and it's safe to say its theatrical run is beginning to slow. For the first time across an entire weekend, The Final Reckoning failed to infiltrate the domestic top 5, thanks in no small part to the new box office arrivals of the long-awaited horror sequel M3GAN 2.0and Joseph Kosinski's F1.

Nevertheless, the action franchise's final installment still took home another $4.15 million domestically last weekend, taking its current total up to $562 million, split between a domestic haul of $186 million and a further $376 million from overseas markets. Because of this, The Final Reckoning has edged forward in the all-time rankings, now holding position #210 in the global list. The Cruise-led movie has also officially doubled the box office total of another action franchise's late-entry, namely 2011's The Bourne Legacy,...

‘Andor’s Creator Speaks Out On How Kathleen Kennedy Is Treated By Star Wars Fans [Exclusive]
Image
Throughout the press tour for Andor— both before and after it debuted to critical acclaim — series creator Tony Gilroyhas given credit where credit is due. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Gilroy bluntly explained that the series only existed because Kathleen Kennedy “protected” it. Kennedy is, of course, Lucasfilm’s longtime President and one of the most prolific producers in Hollywood, with Poltergeist and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial marking the start of her career. She’s also the one to carry the brunt of any criticism lobbed at Star Wars, particularly from so-called Star Wars fans, who have a habit of targeting women involved with the franchise. Gilroy directly called out all of the “shit that she takes online” while making it clear that “there’s no show without her.” Andor hasn’t faced the type of criticism that other recent Star Wars series have faced, which makes it...

Tony Gilroy's wife compared Mon Mothma's Senate escape to one of his previous works
Image
With episodes 8 and 9, the storytelling of Andor Season 2 broke barriers, glass ceilings, and IMDb records, and showrunner Tony Gilroy’s wife had something to say about that.

The slow, creeping, eerie tension that builds over the first seven episodes explodes in “Who Are You?” when the Empire commits genocide on Ghorman, opening fire on a peaceful gathering of protestors. In the next episode, “Welcome to the Rebellion,” Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) stands up against it with the help of Alderaan’s Bail Organa (Benjamin Bratt). She openly blames Emperor Palpatine for the atrocities and warns the galaxy that a similar fate awaits them all.

Mon’s Senate speech after the Ghorman Massacre was already part of Star Wars canon. We find out in Star Wars Rebels Season 3 episode 18, “Secret Cargo,” that the Chandrilan Senator defects from the Empire and reaches Dantooine to call for the official formation of the Rebel Alliance.

‘Mirror Life: Modern Zombies’ Trailer: A New Kind of Zombie Movie [Exclusive]
Standing Eight Premiere Q&A
It’s hard to make a zombie film feel fresh, especially after the massive zombie obsession of the 00s and 10s. But, writers and directors Brian Kazmarck and Kazy Tauginas want to prove it can be done with their new film, Mirror Life: Modern Zombies.

In the new film:

“A global pandemic is narrowly averted. Shortly after, Tracy Kovalsky discovers that her cousin Jordan has gone missing after enrolling in an illegal study at a research facility for a miracle drug called Dumitor. Following an outbreak at the testing facility, Jordan and other patients are forced into lockdown. A life-and-death struggle for survival ensues as the patients are systematically hunted down while Tracy’s search for her cousin exposes the conspiracy to cover up the entire experiment by any means necessary.”

“Blood was so bad”: Tony Gilroy Was Trying to Make His Marvel Universe When Jeremy Renner Took Over Matt Damon’s Bourne Franchise
Image
“Ain’t no use in turning on your light, babe, I’m on the dark side of the road.” Bob Dylan’s gravelly wisdom could’ve been the theme song for The Bourne Legacy. A film conceived in ambition, born into chaos, and abandoned in silence. Tony Gilroy, whose pen carved out Michael Clayton and The Bourne Identity series, has now pulled the curtain back on what was intended as a cinematic multiverse, an espionage-laced response to the Marvel machine.

Speaking with disarming honesty on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gilroy likened the experience to a “shambolic success,” a phrase that sticks like thorns. He tried to gift them a Marvel-esque narrative web, intricately tied through espionage and reluctant heroes, but the studio just wouldn’t bite.

With Jeremy Renner onboard and Matt Damon intentionally absent, the dream caved under alleged egos and “bad blood”. Well, as the proverb goes,...

Andor Creator Tony Gilroy Shares New Details About His Next, Non-Star Wars Movie
Image
After making his feature scripting debut with 1992's "The Cutting Edge," an agreeable figure skating riff on Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew" starring D.B. Sweeney and Moira Kelly, Tony Gilroy quickly established himself as a Hollywood screenwriter to watch. Though he received only scattered praise for delivering a hugely engrossing adaptation of Stephen King's "Dolores Claiborne" and penning the niftily plotted medical thriller "Extreme Measures," his major rewrite of "The Devil's Advocate," which transformed a difficult-to-pin-down project into a shamelessly entertaining box office hit, placed him on the town's A-list.

While Gilroy didn't have a singular voice like his top-paid peers Shane Black, Joe Eszterhas, and Daniel Waters, he was highly valued by filmmakers for his wit, sense of storytelling structure, and lack of preciousness. He wasn't above tinkering on Michael Bay's silly "Armageddon" or Antoine Fuqua's action-comedy "Bait," which was likely because a) the money...

‘Andor’ Sets a Rare Star Wars Record That I Wish Doesn’t Turn Into a Trend for the Franchise
Image
The second season of Tony Gilroy’s Andor received a huge welcome among Star Wars fans. It was one of the rare mature shows from the franchise, which managed to impress both fans and critics with its two seasons. After Season 2, Andor becomes the first project from the Star Wars universe not to feature the lightsaber or any of the Jedi vs Dark Force magical fights.

The lack of lightsabers marks a major difference between the Diego Luna-led series and the other films/TV shows. Andor tells the story of normal citizens who fight for their rights, without relying much on the supernatural elements that define Star Wars. For me, it’s more of a political show than a fantasy series. Doesn’t mean that this will work for every Star Wars show.

Andor‘s unique achievement shouldn’t be copied for other Star Wars projects Diego Luna as...

“At heart, Bourne is a patriot”: After Andor, I’m Convinced Tony Gilroy Should Make Matt Damon’s Final Jason Bourne Movie
Image
After watching Andor, I’m fully convinced, Tony Gilroy is the only one who should bring Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne back for one last ride. Gilroy’s grip on morally grey heroes, espionage, and gritty tension is unmatched. And, he already helped shape the Bourne franchise’s best moments.

With Andor, he proved he can blend politics, rebellion, and raw emotion without losing an ounce of intensity. Bourne’s always been a patriot at heart, tangled in a system that betrayed him. And if anyone can give that legacy the sendoff it deserves, it’s Gilroy – no amnesia about it.

Tony Gilroy and Matt Damon’s final Bourne will be the perfect finale Matt Damon as Jason Bourne in The Bourne Identity (2002) | Credits: Universal Pictures

After watching Andor, I couldn’t shake one thought: Tony Gilroy has to make Matt Damon’s final Bourne movie. No one captures paranoia,...

8 Unknown Facts About the Hawkeye Jeremy Renner’s Private Life
Image
When we talk about superheroes, Jeremy Renner’s name pops up without fail. The man who brought Hawkeye to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t just an Avenger on screen; he’s one in real life, too. Before joining the Avengers squad, Renner was grinding it out in indie films like Dahmer and Neo Ned, later landing roles in action flicks like S.W.A.T. and 28 Weeks Later. His big break? No doubt, it came with the MCU—and let’s be real, the Avengers wouldn’t feel the same without him.

But life hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing lately. Back in early 2023, Jeremy Renner had a chilling snowplow accident that left fans truly shaken. But like the real-life superhero he is, he powered through the pain and came out even stronger. Still, despite being in the spotlight for years, there are a few surprising things most people...

“That’s not something to turn our noses up at”: Matt Damon’s Failing Career Was Behind ‘Bourne’ Revival After His Close Friend Gave Up
Image
Matt Damon thought he was done with the Bourne franchise. Even director Paul Greengrass did not expect he would return to helm another installment. They were both happy with the movies they made, but something definitely stirred inside that made them realize they needed to go back one more time.

Whether it’s the high demand from fans, or they really love the action franchise that they could not let it go, one thing’s for sure: seeing The Bourne Legacy offices hurt Damon in a way he did not expect.

Why Matt Damon returned as Jason Bourne

Matt Damon rose to fame for his portrayal of Jason Bourne, appearing in four out of five installments. When he handed the reins to Jeremy Renner in 2012’s The Bourne Legacy, he thought he was done. He was grateful enough for the opportunity to star in one of the most popular action franchises in Hollywood,...

‘Miami Vice’ Remake in the Works With ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Director Joseph Kosinski
Image
“Top Gun: Maverick” filmmaker Joseph Kosinski is set to direct a “Miami Vice” remake for Universal Pictures.

Dan Gilroy is adapting the screenplay. Though plot details haven’t been revealed, the movie is based the 1980s TV series, starring Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as undercover detectives in South Florida. The neon-hued show ran on NBC for five seasons from 1984-1989. A film version was first attempted in 2006, with Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell leading the cast and Michael Mann (who produced the original series) behind the camera. Though it became a cult favorite over time, the “Miami Vice” movie flopped in its theatrical run, grossing $165 million against a reported $135 million budget.

Casting has yet to be announced. In addition to directing, Kosinski will produce through his company, Monolith. Dylan Clark, who worked with Kosinski on 2016’s post-apocalyptic action thriller “Oblivion” as well as the Matt Reeves-directed “Planet of the Apes” series,...

‘Miami Vice’ Movie in the Works With Joseph Kosinski Directing
Image
Joseph Kosinski is headed to Miami. The filmmaker behind the $1.49 billion hit Top Gun: Maverick is attached to direct a Miami Vice movie for Universal, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

Nightcrawler filmmaker Dan Gilroy is penning the script, from an earlier draft by Top Gun: Maverick scribe Eric Warren Singer, who had to move on to commitments on Amazon MGM Studios’ Best of Enemies, starring Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper. The Batman producer Dylan Clark is producing through Dylan Clark Productions and Kosinski producing through Monolith.

Miami Vice began life as the Anthony Yerkovich-created TV series starring Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as two undercover Miami police officers known for their love of pastel suits. (“The ambition of the show was to break the form of everything that had come before,” executive producer Michael Mann told THR last year of the series, which ran from 1984-90 on NBC.

Tony Gilroy Doesn't See Himself Returning to "Shambolic" 'Bourne' Franchise
Image
Tony Gilroy has made an incredible impact on the Star Wars franchise, and his journey seems set to come to an end with the conclusion ofAndor. Season 2 is ready to launch on Disney+ and will bridge the gap between the first season and Rogue One, but after that, well, the story is told and everyone moves on.

It seems that this is certainly true for Gilroy, who, after more than a decade as part of the epic space opera, wants to do something new. Does that mean he could be about to step back into the world of Jason Bourne instead? Despite a new Bourne movie being somewhere in the ether, it seems that Gilroy is not looking to head back down that road either. Speaking to MovieWeb’s George Edelman, Gilroy said:

“I've been on Star Wars for sort of 10 years, if you include Rogue One. I mean, I brought 24 hours of new canon,...

Universal Loses Rights To Jason Bourne Franchise As Bidding War Begins For A Potential Reboot Of The Series
Image
At the end of 2023, it was reported that a new Bourne movie was in the works from All Quiet on the Western Front and Conclave director Edward Berger.

The news was welcomed by fans who had assumed Matt Damon's time as the ex-CIA agent and Treadstone operative had reached its end, though the filmmaker dialled back expectations last October when he confirmed, "I'm not doing it right now." Damon has also danced around the subject of returning.

The decision has likely been taken out of their hands, though, as Universal Pictures has lost the rights to the Bourne franchise. According to The Hollywood Reporter (via ActioNewz.com), WME is currently shopping the rights to both that spy franchise and the rest of author Robert Ludlum's library at the behest of the late author's estate.

"The goal is to find a new home for the franchise and make...

Jason Bourne Franchise Eyeing Reboot As Rights To The Spy Saga Leave Universal
Image
Change is afoot in the world of cinematic spy craft. James Bond has been reassigned to Amazon. Imf agent Ethan Hunt is about to undertake quite possibly his last impossible mission — The Final Reckoning. And now, after disappearing at the end of Jason Bourne back in 2016, everybody's favourite amnesiac assassin is looking for a clean break too. Per THR's reporting, the rights to Robert Ludlum's propulsive spy saga have fallen out of Universal's hands, and the search for a new studio to reboot the franchise and bring Bourne back is very much underway.

According to THR, Skydance, Apple, and Netflix are among the parties who've held meetings with the Ludlum Estate so far, and Universal — who most recently tried to get a new Bourne project going with Conclave director Edward Berger back in 2023 — could yet win the IP back if the price is right. Skydance, Apple and Netflix are said to be in contention to buy the Jason Bourne franchise as its rights go up for sale.

With the ability to slip into a crowd and become a threat from the shadows, Jason Bourne has never seemed like the settling down type. That seems to be a truism that extends beyond the character and into the franchise itself. According to The Hollywood Reporter, author Robert Ludlum’s estate has put up the entire library of titles on the market, including the rights to the Bourne novels.

Since a couple of years before 2002’s The Bourne Identity, the rights to Ludlum’s espionage specialist have resided at Universal, although attempts to make a Bourne film track all the way back through the 1980s when Warner Bros was interested in setting up a version that would have starred Burt Reynolds.

Ultimately, Reynolds passed, and Jason Bourne...

Universal Can Still Get Back Matt Damon’s Bourne Franchise but Not Without a Fight With Netflix and Apple
Image
Hollywood has a knack for never letting a good spy retire in peace. Just ask James Bond, Ethan Hunt, or, in this case, Jason Bourne. It turns out that if you’re an amnesiac superspy with a talent for surviving impossible situations, you don’t just disappear, you go on an extended vacation until a major studio decides it’s time to dust you off.

Now, Jason Bourne is back in the headlines, not for a new adventure, but because the rights to his franchise are up for grabs. The fight is about to get as intense as one of his famous car chases through European streets.

So, who’s trying to claim Bourne’s allegiance? Some of the biggest players in Hollywood and streaming, are Universal, Netflix, Apple, and Skydance. Each of them sees the potential of bringing the shaky-cam king back to action,...

Universal Loses Rights to Jason Bourne Franchise After Bourne 6 Stalls Out in Development Hell
Image
The Jason Bourne franchise is getting a major shakeup. After a planned sixth film in the movie series failed to materialize, the franchise is hitting the shopping block, set to leave its longtime home at Universal Studios.

Per Deadline, the Bourne franchise will be up for sale, which will be overseen by WME on behalf of the estate of author Robert Ludlum, who published the first book in the original series, The Bourne Identity, in 1980. Captivate Entertainment will manage the rights for the estate. Skydance, Apple, and Netflix are all said to be interested as potential buyers. At this point, it's too early to know if the franchise will be completely rebooted once it finds its new home, or if Matt Damon will end up returning as Jason Bourne.

The first Bourne film, Doug Liman's The Bourne Identity, was released in 2002. It introduced Damon as Bourne, and the actor...

WME shopping Jason Bourne spy property rights
Image
Jason Bourne is up for grabs with Skydance, Netflix and Apple reportedly circling the spy property.

WME represents the late author Robert Ludlum’s estate and is shopping the rights after they left Universal, which in theory may also make bids.

The last film in the series that generated more than $1.6bn at the global box office over five instalments was Jason Bourne in 2016, directed by Paul Greengrass.

Matt Damon starred as the title character inThe Bourne Identity (2002), The Bourne Supremacy (2004), The Bourne Ultimatum (2007), The Bourne Legacy (2012), and Jason Bourne.

Jason Bourne Franchise On The Shopping Block; Leaves Universal
Image
We’ve confirmed that the Jason Bourne franchise is on the block, and leaving its original home of Universal.

WME is repping the estate of late author Robert Ludlum and overseeing the sale with Skydance, Apple and Netflix kicking the tires. Producer Captivate Entertainment manages the pic’s rights for the Ludlum estate. Ludlum published The Bourne Identity in 1980.

Through five movies, the Jason Bourne cinematic spy series has racked up $1.64 billion at the global box office. Matt Damon originated the role of the spy who suffers from psychogenic amnesia and is forced to unlock his connection to the CIA.

Damon starred in 2002’s The Bourne Identity ($214M global box office), 2004’s The Bourne Supremacy ($292.5M), and 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum ($442.8M — the highest installment in the franchise). Damon stepped away for the title role and Jeremy Renner stepped in for 2012’s The Bourne Legacy, but the global gross eased to $276.1M.

Jason Bourne franchise is looking for a new home; Netflix, Apple, & Skydance could be in the mix
Image
THR reports that Jason Bourne is looking for a new home. The action franchise has been at Universal Pictures for over two decades, but the rights to Jason Bourne have reverted back to the Robert Ludlum estate.

WME is shopping the rights to other studios and streamers on behalf of Ludlum’s estate, with the goal being to “find a new home for the franchise and make the superspy a more regular presence onscreen.” Skydance, Apple, and Netflix have reportedly met with the estate, and even Universal could win back the rights if they’re willing to shell out the cash. It’s not certain if Matt Damon will continue to be involved, but you would imagine that whichever studio secures the rights would want to make a fresh start.

Jason Bourne Franchise Shopped as Rights Leave Universal (Exclusive)
Image
Jason Bourne is emptying out his safe deposit box on the Universal lot.

WME is shopping the rights to the spy franchise and the rest of the Robert Ludlum library on behalf of the late author’s estate.

The goal is to find a new home for the franchise and make the superspy a more regular presence onscreen. Bourne last appeared nearly a decade ago in Jason Bourne (2016), from Universal and producer Captivate Entertainment, which manages the film rights for the Ludlum estate. It is too early to say if longtime star Matt Damon would be involved in the new iteration.

Skydance, Apple and Netflix are said to have met with the estate for the rights. Universal, too, could potentially win the rights back if it made an attractive bid.

Jason Bourne sprung from the mind of novelist Ludlum, who published The Bourne Identity in 1980. Two decades later, star Damon...

“It wasn’t even about the sequel”: Matt Damon Was Onboard With the Wildest Jason Bourne Idea That Almost Ended the Franchise to Surprise Fans
Image
Matt Damon may have had his breakthrough with Good Will Hunting but he became a global star when he starred in the Bourne franchise. The spy action drama acted as an antithesis to the genre defined by James Bond and Damon successfully turned into an action star. While he skipped The Bourne Legacy, he starred in all four other films in the franchise.

However, there would not have been a franchise if Damon and The Bourne Identity director Doug Liman decided to stick to an idea they came up with during the initial phase of production. While the films were based on Robert Ludlum’s novels, Liman reportedly decided to surprise the fans by killing off Jason Bourne in the first film.

Matt Damon’s 2016 film Jason Bourne took a long time to happen, and while it performed well at the box office, the reviews had not been favorable. For a sequel as highly anticipated as this one, surely there’s something in it that at least made a lot of fans swoon.

Indeed, Damon finally did one thing in this film that he had been avoiding for the past couple of installments, and that was to display his ripped body. At the time, he felt it would be suitable to show off his build since it fits into the narrative.

“Not an advisable way to make a movie”: The Best Jason Bourne Movie Bent Reality Before Matt Damon’s Public Outburst
Image
The Jason Bourne saga came to life from the pages of Robert Ludlum’s book series through Matt Damon, and it will forever go down as some of his finest works in an action franchise of all time. But while the way the actor brought the titular protagonist to life throughout the film series has been nothing short of a feast for the eyes, making it all wasn’t all that easy.

The Bourne Ultimatum. | Credits: Universal Pictures.

This stands especially true in the case of the best Bourne film to date, i.e. The Bourne Ultimatum. As much as that flick won both critics’ and viewers’ hearts, curating it wasn’t all that easy. In fact, it might as well be admitted that the masterminds behind the flick pretty much bent reality to bring it to life. Then there was Damon’s public outburst, which put salt on the wounds.

10 Best Fight Scenes in the Bourne Movies, Ranked
Image
Regardless of its slight regression over the last two films, the Bourne series is very entertaining and embodies all the thrills of the Ludlum novels they're based on. That original trilogy from the mind of Tony Gilroy, brought to life by Doug Liman and Paul Greengrass and performed to perfection by Matt Damon, is a classic of action cinema. The following two films lack quality storytelling but make up for it with entertainment.

The Bourne films are known for specific action tropes that include a fugitive on the run, corrupt government agencies, the one-man army, car chases and juicy revelations. What the series often does best is its fight sequences, which often include the hero resourcefully finding ways to beat the opponent. The creativity of Bourne and Cross mixed with the style of camera work from the director make the fights very entertaining. There are fights that will forever be iconic,...

Matt Damon's $415M Action Sequel Becomes Streaming Success 9 Years Later
Image
It's challenging to put Matt Damon into a box as an actor. He's starred in everything from romantic comedies to dramas, fantasy epics to biopics. His first major hit was Good Will Hunting in 1997, a movie that won him and cowriter Ben Affleck the Best Original Screenplay Oscar at the Academy Awards. It was in 2002, however, that Damon ascended to a new level of movie stardom, taking on the role of amnesiac assassin Jason Bourne in The Bourne Identity.

Damon reprised his role as Bourne for three sequels, but his work in the action-heavy movies extended beyond this franchise. Damon had action-forward roles in movies like Green Zone (2010), True Grit (2010), Elysium (2013), and The Martian (2016), the latter two of which mix action with science fiction. Though Damon appeared in crime thriller The Instigators last year, his last true foray into pure action was almost 10 years ago now.

The Worst Jason Bourne Movie Is a Streaming Hit on Max

Arguably the weakest of the five films, which started with 2002’s The Bourne Identity, Cbr in its review of the movie back in 2016, said that it was likely the worst movie of that summer and actually quite “boring.” The Bourne franchise includes the Damon-lead The Bourne Identity (2002), The Bourne Supremacy (2004), and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007). Jeremy Renner starred in 2012’s The Bourne Legacy. Damon was back again for Jason Bourne in 2016, alongside Tommy Lee Jones.

Andor: What can we look forward to in Season 2
Image
In 2022, the galaxy far, far away was met with a much-needed breath of fresh air in the critically acclaimed series Andor, starring Diego Luna as the titular character Cassian Andor, the future hero of the Rebellion.

Taking place five years before the events of 2016’s Rogue One, season one of Andor explored the earlier life of Cassian Andor prior to his service in the Rebel Alliance. Helmed by showrunner Tony Gilroy, the series proved to be a slick and edgy espionage thriller full of moral ambiguity and mature themes.

Gilroy returns now to helm the second and final season of the series. What we know so far is limited, but much can be gleaned from context. We know that the second season will be twelve episodes in length and will take place over the course of 4 years of Cassian’s life, with the season separated into a quartet of three-episode chunks.
