After 1ep

Show is better than 5.8 especially by today's standards. It's funny, intriguing, and is a mystery. Acting is also good. Not sure what people's complaints are. Give it a go.

Tonally all over the place, but well worth the ride!

Tonally it's all over the place, but something about The Resort kept my attention long enough for this seemingly rom com based mini-series to take a dark existential turn.

The team Sam Esmail (executive producer and creator of the brilliant Mr. Robot and Homecoming) put together here is why I gave it a shot in the first place (Cristin Milioti, Nick Offerman, Ben Sinclair, Luis Guzman, William Jackson Harper, Skyler Gisondo, Michael Hitchcock).

If you're a fan of other complex, existential, sci fi, black comedies like Maniac, Palm Springs, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Made For Love, etc; this might scratch that itch.

Underrated

I stumbled across this show while looking for something to watch and went in with pretty low expectations (giving the initial rating for this show), maybe my low expectations played a part on how much I enjoyed the show however I found myself enjoying it. As a huge "High Maintenance" fan I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Ben Sinclair directs the first few episodes and has a role in the show.

I've always been a fan of projects in the mystery/adventure/comedy genres and this show delivers on all those fronts, but feels a bit disjointed and sporadic at times - overall however I would have to say that I'm enjoying the show and am excited to see where it goes.

If you're like me and enjoy shows in this genre, I'd recommend giving this one a go!

Love it! Smart, clever.

I'm not going into details, only want to say - if you've been looking, searching for a creative, wonderfully written, clever, entertaining show, this is the one. Watch "The Resort," if you love mystery, drama, comedy, witty repartee and gorgeous scenery. This is the series for you. And me. More than 10 stars. A million stars. Thankfully there are smart, clever writers and excellent actors creating this treat. Thank you to all of you creative people making this show!

Clever.

To be frank, I can understand the first reviewer's position. However, the story was developed and was more interesting in the last 15 minutes in the first episode and kept me throughout...I am stuck to my screen because I want to see how these parallels and mystery unravel. It's a clever story, and far more a mystery than a comedy. Which is why I think it has "6". Lastly, these main characters, who are married, have made several choices that are poorly crafted which can be a turn off. Primarily, researching in a foreign nation while drinking. Other than that I'm tuned in and want to see where this goes!

A mixed bag

"The Resort" starts out with a beautiful premise, reminiscent of HBO's fabulous "The White Lotus." It offers enough mystery to keep you going episode after episode. While you are wondering what's going on, you do get treated to some nice scenery and decent action scenes. In addition, it is always fun to see Skyler Gisondo doing comedy along with Nick Offerman. However, some of the other acting in this series is inconsistent and borderline cringe-worthy. And not before long, the plot line also becomes scattered and frustrating. Just as something finally gets interesting, it is followed by disappointment. No bite. You get a hollow feeling as you try to absorb the explanation of the series of events. As of this writing there is no season 2 planned, making the non-cliffhanger both a lame and unsatisfying way to end things.

Finally, an Original Idea

This series was a total surprise, curious, intriguing and funny.

Several surprise moments and twists that are laid out to build a climax, the actors all deliver their characters really well.

In all a very refreshing series.

Through Three Episodes

As noted by other reviewers, I was a few seconds away from turning off the first episode 15 minutes in. But I like Cristin Milioti and William Jackson Harper as actors, so I kept going. I'm glad I did. The second half of episode 1 is far more compelling than the first half, and after three episode I am completely hooked.

7.3/10. Recommended

This is better than i expected. There are moments of greatness and brilliance, especially when it becames existential dramedy. There are lines that made me even think about my own life, sharp dialogue etc. It could be a masterpiece, however it's flawed.

-- Not good chemistry between Skyler Gisondo and Nina Bloomgarden, they are very far from the ideal couple representing young lovers bond.

-- Zero explanations given about what is happening at the "PASSAJE". I understand there is something poetic and Poetry is not Maths, but still, it's lazy writing.

-- Comedy element is not a success here. It should get darker or more serious, at least during the final episodes. Story was interesting, it should be deeper, there are deep meanings here that could be explored.

Still, there were many upsides. Almost every actor here does a great job, especially Milioti, Jackson- Harper and Sinclair. Characters cannot be more likeable, i loved them, it was a joy to watch these characters even when they were not doing something important. As i said, there are moments of brilliance. Time, love, family, loss, grief. Not an easy task to explore these concepts without being ridiculous. Milioti and Jackson- Harper had great chemistry, i was totally convinced anout their relationship. I think that every couple is going through what they are going through after some years. There is Truth here, even Wisdom at times.

I would like to watch a second season even though i am afraid that there is no story to be told after the ending. It was not a very good ending, there are some questions unanswered, even plot holes. But it's definitely satisfying and tries to wrap it up in a poetic way.

Really, Really, Really Good So Far

I'm telling everyone I know about this show. I absolutely love it so far at the end of episode 3. Never heard of it or anything before today, but I love White Lotus and other retreat/resort based drama/comedies, then I saw Sam Esmail's name pop up at the bottom of the screen as an EP, and I decided I would watch at least the first full episode.

Couldn't be happier to have stuck it out. Maybe the first fifteen minutes of episode 1 could move faster, I get that. It's just establishing that a married couple celebrating 10 years are on the verge of going way or the other.

I think by the time they get to the part early in episode 2 where the current timeline is overlapped with the past's text exchanges (and the current timeline is completely mistaking what was actually happening in the past), I have a feeling most people will start to love this show. At the end of episode 3, I can't wait to see more.

Pretty enjoyable

Crazy how this came out 2 years ago I probably could've watched sooner I've had Peacock a few times. I think it's awesome Sam Esmail and Ben Sinclair were part of the crew I enjoy their projects quite a lot. The cinematography is great all around, awesome cast, and flow of the story is intriguing the mystery/ thriller element is magnificent! I get jealous watching stuff about beautiful locations cause I don't get to do much must be nice for anyone that does. I enjoy William Jackson Harper in The Good Place, and Midsommar so that's a plus, I love Cristin Milioti in anything and damn the music is so damn good in The Resort I would definitely recommend the series to anyone!

Talented people, disappointing product

Extremely convoluted but ultimately uneventful. Hugely disappointing, yet I give a 5 for performances and production.

The many storylines do not connect in any satisfying way, and the "mythology" of the show's universe is not developed well enough to feel engrossing or meaningful. I don't want to include spoilers because fans of the principal actors may still enjoy this. Furthermore, the Frias actor, who is new to me, is quite compelling.

I'm sad to say that I have to be more cautious about treating Sam Esmail's participation as a guarantee of quality. I respect him a lot, but I don't fully share his values on entertainment.

Not what i was expecting...

This show was so different than anything I had seen before. Just when i thought it was going to be one way, it headed in an interesting and unique (albeit odd) direction. When I initially saw the trailer, I thought it was one of those cheesey horror series. The show initially had a 5 rating on IMBD. However, after revisiting IMBD a few weeks later, the rating had jumped immensely so I thought I would give it a go. I initially thought I was in for a decade long cold case for two murdered/missing teens, but it turned out to be something more complex and "out there". The cast is great. There are no weak links as far as acting and character development goes. The show has its endearing moments, comedic moments, sci fi and mystery. Definitely worth seeing and I hope there is a season 2.

Curiouser and curiouser...

The first three episodes were amusing enough; a necessary setting up of characters and scenarios and whatnot, but after that, a large pinch of Cosmic weirdness, an even larger dollop of spaced out Thomas Pynchon-esque Noir intrigue and a hint of Borges as the characters fall down the rabbit hole has made this an unexpected treat. If your tastes stretch to any of the aforementioned, you should give it a try.

Update: It gets so much better, stick with it

A teaser popped up as cinema ads before the movie starts playing so I thought it was going to be a movie not series. Half an hour episodes seem a little short for the mystery they're trying to solve but it's better than dragging out an episode to an hour.

Watched the first three episodes and the premise is pretty original but nothing spectacular(yet); it's a couple that's either seemingly falling out of love or just bored after 10yrs is distracting themselves from it by trying to solve a murder while on their anniversary vacation. There's an element of suspense, just not that thrilling. Sam and Violet's story arc's carrying the show for now but when Emma and Noah unravel the mystery more might get more interesting. It's not bad but it's just not interesting enough to make me excited for the rest of the season to air. The actors are doing quite a lot of the heavy lifting. It's from the creators of Palm Springs and Mr. Robot so I had slightly higher expectations, sorta has the Palm Springs vibe especially with Cristin Milioti in it but tagging Mr Robot feels like bait. It feels like White Locust on a smaller scale.

I'm finding a really tough time thinking of a rating to give because I don't like or dislike it either, so maybe I'll wait for the rest of the season to drop.

Alright, update after watching the whole season and it gets better, way better at the end. It's so cleverly written, it has you questioning whether it's fantasy then comes up with rational explanations, and even though it follows dual timelines with both Emma and Noah's, and Sam and Violet's, you only know as much as the characters know so you're just a clueless and curious. It answers the big mystery in the end, but there's still a few things left unexplained. The show's start is interesting enough to keep watching but the end of the season makes it more than worth a watch.

I love it. I was laughing and intrigued. The whole thing is just absolutely excellent.

Has a good family vibe too. Totally would recommend 100% This is after viewing two episodes. Its especially not a bad thing to watch as a couple, or a family, or even with older kids. But its perfectly good if you just want something to un wind with. The beautiful scenery helps too. Really good chemistry between the leads. You will wish they were your friends and you could actually invite them out for drinks on Friday. Its not for everyone, but for people who have been looking for a good new mystery series, this is 100% on target.

So far really good, giving it a 10 to compensate for people who don't have the patience to get to the good stuff ;)

Does it start off slow? Sure. It's called a slow burn ;)

Is it a bit artsy & more creative that the typical fare you would expect from peacock? Yes.

Does it have a compelling mystery, engaging (underrated) actors with complex backstories not often seen in the media? Absolutely.

Most of the audience will miss the nuances revealed in the first half of the episode and may not understand the couple's behavior - but as 2 people who have recently experienced tragedy similar to what is likely yet to be explained in the show, my husband and I found that there is a lot that is instantly recognizable. I don't want to spoil anything but their patterns of behavior, her deep need for meaning, his constant exhaustion are all spot on and almost too real. There is a lot of depth here and I cannot wait to see where this goes.

Hoping that this gets the attention it deserves and many more seasons.

P. S. To the guy who left a review about "an annoying narration" - there is no narration to the show - you will enjoy the show much more if you check your settings again :)

1st episode review!

The episode wasn't engaging enough in the starting, I wanted to leave it in between, but the performance of Cristin Milioti was awesome as always so decided to watch the full episode. In the starting of the episode, it was confusing why the lead actress (Emma) is so obsessed about the disappearance of the two adults and the way she got the first clue, an item, and she started looking into it, searching on the internet and all, the direction was poor there, it looked stupid and unreal but by the middle of the episode, the episode starting making some sense and got better. Wlliam's performance is good too, loved his acting in the good place show also. Till now, the show is above average. I will be watching the remaining episodes.

Weird, but interesting, original and funny

This is a weird little series, and it's pretty tough to determine its genre. It's quite originally made series, with great casting of very likeable, well chosen actors, and strange, yet compelling story with a lot of little pearls of wisdom you can pick up if you are paying attention to every detail.

Characters are sweet, funny and likeable and actors are very well chosen, good job there! The presentation is lovely, with great scenes and lovely images, and everything lookes beautiful to watch. It's also quite funny and silly and the mystery is compelling.

On the not so good side, it feels unfinished and underexplained, like they run off the money or ideas or something and had to finish the series fast. It just ends so abruptly.

I still quite enjoyed watching it, every scene and every dialog. It's really nice little gem.

Different and Good

At first it seems like an ordinary missing persons, maybe murder type mystery. But as each episode goes on, this series takes on a whole new level adding a bit of supernatural or maybe other worldly type story, but only in a subtle way. You really can't predict the story. There are two stories going on....one is the current time where a couple gets interested in finding out what happened to two young adults on vacation many years before. The second story follows these two young adults and what happens to them.....but the stories intertwine in a very interesting way. It's a great story and a common, satisfying end. The acting is great and the story keeps unraveling in a such a way it keeps you interested the whole time. A nice little gem of a find. Slow at times, but a good limited series.

I don't understand the bad reviews

I really don't get the bad reviews. This show is excellent. It's interesting and fast moving. It is part comedy and part mystery. The acting is excellent. I really can't say anything bad about it. They leave out the politics which basically is involved in almost everything these days. It's just a really good show. I wish it was an hour an episode.
