Ya se ha publicado el primer tráiler de Enemigos, una historia de superación personal dirigida por David Valero (El arca de Noé) y producida por Amazon MGM Studios y Atípica Films, que ha sido seleccionada para participar en la 28 edición del Festival de Cine de Málaga, en la Sección Oficial fuera de concurso.

Berlín will introduce several new characters to the Money Heist franchise as the spinoff has added a number of talented stars to the cast list. A prequel to the hit Antena 3 and Netflix series, Money Heist, the Berlín spinoff sees Pedro Alonso reprise his role as the eponymous jewel thief as he plans another grand heist in Paris, France. While the world knows him as the bank robber Berlín, the spinoff makes him a bit more complex by exploring his backstory and allowing viewers to see what an ingenious criminal he is.

However, while Berlín is known for having successfully pulled off twenty-seven robberies, that doesn't mean he hasn't had any help along the way. With several new and talented actors joining the Money Heist franchise after being cast in Berlín, the spinoff will introduce a brand new crew who will prove themselves to be just as iconic as the original.

Transfusion, a new thriller from Saban Films, is now available to see in theaters and stream on VOD and Digital. The film follows Ryan Logan, who must adapt to a new life after an unexpected tragedy turns his world upside down. But when the safety of his son is suddenly compromised, the former special forces operative dives into the criminal underground to keep him safe. The main cast includes Sam Worthington, Phoebe Tonkin, Edward Carmody, and Matt Nable.

In addition to playing the role of Johnny, Nable is also the writer and director of Transfusion. He has acted in projects such as Arrow, Hacksaw Ridge, and The Twelve. While the thriller is his directional debut, Nable's previous writing credits include Last King of the Cross, Outlaws, and The Final Winter.

African streaming service Showmax has inked a two-series slate deal with Tshedza Pictures, the South African production company behind the International Emmy-nominated telenovela “The River,” the company announced Tuesday at the start of the Joburg Film Festival.

“Adulting,” Tshedza’s first Showmax Original, is an eight-part drama series set in the parallel universes of four varsity friends. Their strong bond has held them together even as their journeys in life have taken them in very different directions — a bond the show’s creators describe as “the bromance of the decade.”

Tshedza’s second Showmax Original, “Outlaws,” is a cross-cultural love story that plays out in the dangerous world of cattle-theft syndicates in the lawless land on the border between Lesotho and South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal region.

“Adulting” is set to premiere in the first half of 2023, while the 40-episode epic drama series “Outlaws” is expected to be delivered in the second half of the year.

Launched in 1998, the Malaga Film Festival first grabbed attention as a Spanish movie showcase and birthplace of a Spanish star system, TV actors walking a red carpet to acclaim from milling throngs.

Under Juan Antonio Vigar, director from 2013, it has consolidated as a platform for a new generation of Spanish filmmakers while adding ever increasing industry heft – co-pro forums, WIPs, a Hack digital forum initiative – and also opening up to TV.

In 2021, however, Malaga Festival and Spanish Screenings have exploded in scale, impact and attendance. The narrative of this year’s event is largely one of that growth. Eight takes on this and other Malaga highlights:

The Good Boss, Fernando León de Aranoa’s comedy-drama starring Javier Bardem, dominated Spain’s top film prizes this year, The Goyas, collecting six awards including Best Picture.

The film also nabbed Best Director and Best Screenplay for Aranoa, Best Actor for Javier Bardem, Best Original Score (Zeltia Montes) and Best Editing (Vanessa L. Marimbert). It had previously received a record-setting 20 nominations.

The ceremony saw Bardem continue his streak at the awards, collecting his sixth Goya in total, while filmmaker Aranoa is now up to seven across his career.

The Good Boss stars Bardem as a factory owner who deviously schemes his way to solving all of the problems within his business and his personal life, including his infidelities. It was produced by companies including The MediaPro Studio and MK2 Films. Cohen Media Group will handle the U.S. release.

Shortlisted for the Academy Awards in the international feature film category, Fernando León de Aranoa’s “The Good Boss” capped a record 20 Spanish Academy Goya nominations by scoring best picture and actor for Javier Bardem at Saturday’s Goya prize ceremony.

The prizes marked both Leon and Bardem’s seventh Goya wins. Produced by El Reposado and The Mediapro Studio, and a workplace dramedy skewering the abuse of power practised by a seemingly benign factory owner, “The Good Boss” also won best director and original screenplay for León, as well as best score and editing.

Blanca Portillo beat out “Parallel Mothers’” Oscar-nominated Penélope Cruz, thanks to Portillo’s powerful performance as Maixabel Lasa, the real life widow of former Basque Country governor Juan Mari Jauregui who agreed in 2011 to meet one of his Eta killers. Her forgiveness, and Portillo’s portrait, has touched a large nerve in Spain.

For nearly 190 million total viewing hours last week, Netflix audiences were screaming the rallying cry “Bella Ciao” after the fifth and final installment of the Spanish drama series “La Casa de Papel” (“Money Heist”) dropped Dec. 3 on the streamer.

Within two days, “Money Heist” stole the thunder of Netflix’s English language shows, rising to No. 1 on Netflix’s Global top 10 list with far more total viewing hours than the week’s top English-language show, “Lost in Space,” which logged 47.38 million hours for Season 3 during the week of Nov. 29. “Money Heist,” the twisty story of a bank robbery, features standout performances from Úrsula Corberó, Álvaro Morte, Itziar Ituño, Pedro Alonso and Najwa Nimri, among other international talent.

Other non-English shows that have proven their staying power in Netflix’s Global Top 10 include Korean dramas “Squid Game” (21.2 million hours) and “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” (11.56 million) which have held their ground on non-English language...

Christopher Walken series “The Outlaws” has been renewed for a second season. Walken will also return as Frank Sheldon.

Created by Stephen Merchant (“The Office”) and Elgin James (“Mayans M.C.”) the comedy thriller follows seven convicts completing community service in Bristol, U.K.

The second season, which has already wrapped and is due to air next year, follows on directly from season 1. Both seasons were filmed back to back. The show is a BBC One/Amazon Studios co-production.

Already selected as this year’s Spanish Best International Feature Film submission for the Oscars, Fernando León de Aranoa’s dark workplace comedy “The Good Boss,” starring Javier Bardem, has set a new record for most Spanish Academy Goya Award nominations with 20, ahead of Icíar Bollaín’s standout Basque drama “Maixabel” with 14 and Pedro Almodóvar’s “Parallel Mothers,” which secured eight.

The 20 nominations include: Best picture, director, original screenplay, original music, lead actor, three nominations for supporting actor, supporting actress, two nominations for best new male actor and one for best new female actor, production design, cinematography, editing, art direction, costume design, makeup, sound design and special effects. It’s a total which breaks an almost 30-year-old record held by Imanol Uribe’s “Numbered Days,” which received 19 nominations in 1994.

León’s latest, produced by The Mediapro Studio and Reposado PC, is a return to a fruitful partnership between the director and his leading man.

Other winners included Earwig, Jessica Chastain, Tea Lindeburg and Terence Davies.

A debut feature by Romanian director Alina Grigore, Blue Moon has won the Golden Shell award for best film at the 69th edition of the San Sebastian International Film Festival (Ssiff).

The victory adds another woman director as winner of a festival’s main prize following the Palme d’Or win at Cannes for Julia Ducournau’s Titane and the Venice Golden Lion triumph for Audrey Diwan’s Happening.

A total of 14 Spanish productions have been selected for the 69th San Sebastian Film Festival (September 17-25).

These include four titles which will compete for the Golden Shell, including The Good Boss, starring Javier Bardem, which marks the third time in official selection for Fernando León de Aranoa. The Madrid filmmaker won the Golden Shell for best film with Mondays In the Sun back in 2002. The Good Boss is a black comedy and is set in an industrial sales manufacturing business.

Underscoring a larger perceived global market potential for Spanish movies, Warner Bros. Pictures Intl. España is upping its bet on Spanish film production, in volume, budgets and talent.

Once largely acquiring, and then releasing in Spain, around six national films annually, the Hollywood studio now plans to invest in, or officially produce, eight-10 features a year, with Spanish star-studded casts and top directorial talent.

Disclosed to Variety as Warner Bros. Spain unveiled its 2020-21 slate at Spain’s San Sebastian Festival, the bigger push into Spanish production will also see the Hollywood studio continuing to partner on a joint development fund with Atresmedia Cine – a title-by-title non-exclusive alliance which is emerging as a key production axis on the Spanish movie scene.
