Jenna Ortega is leaving her Marvel experience in the past. The actress recently reflected on her brief, uncredited role in Iron Man 3, making it clear that she has no plans to return to the franchise.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ortega was reminded that she had technically already been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “I did it once,” she said. “It was one of the first jobs I ever did. They took all my lines out. I’m in Iron Man 3 for a quick second. I take up the frame, I have one leg, and I’m the vice president’s daughter.”
Paul Rudd, who was being interviewed alongside her, expressed hope that Ortega could return to the franchise in a more significant role. “Marvel is very good at laying those breadcrumbs, and so it might very well be that you come back. They should be...

Even the most devoted Marvel fans may not know of starlet Jenna Ortega’s role in the MCU — something the Death of a Unicorn actress recently reflected on as a seemingly one-and-done experience.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight alongside co-star Paul Rudd, the Scream actress responded to the reporter’s hopes of her joining the blockbuster franchise.
“I did it once,” Ortega said of being in the MCU. “It was one of the first jobs I ever did. They took all my lines out. I’m in ‘Iron Man 3’ for a quick second. I take up the frame, I have one leg and I’m the vice president’s daughter.”

Jenna Ortega is now one of the biggest stars of her generation. A former Disney Channel kid, the 22-year-old has been in the industry for over a decade. Smaller film roles such as X and The Fallout brought her more attention, but it was her titular role in the Netflix series Wednesday that catapulted her popularity. That performance earned her critical acclaim, including an Emmy nomination and a Golden Globe nomination. She would continue her work with prolific director Tim Burton in last year's sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
Since taking on Wednesday, it seems like new parts for Ortega are constantly being announced. She played opposite Martin Freeman in the controversial film Miller's Girl, and is about to be in A24's Death of a Unicorn. In addition to Wednesday season 2, Ortega has multiple upcoming parts this year, including Hurry Up Tomorrow and Klara and the Sun. Now, it has just...

We all remember Jonathan Lipnicki as the bespectacled little boy with a lisp, proudly telling Tom Cruise in one of his best movies, "Jerry Maguire," that "the human head weighs eight pounds," or that "bees and dogs can smell fear." We also remember him as the older human brother to an adopted mouse in "Stuart Little." Jonathan Lipnicki also starred in family-friendly fare like the basketball fantasy "Like Mike" with Lil Bow Wow and "The Little Vampire," about a boy who moves to Scotland and befriends a tiny bloodsucker from the 16th century with a horde of terribly CGI'd flying vampire cows.
But once Jonathan Lipnicki began to shed his adorable baby fat and grow into a young man, he never made quite the same mark on film and television as he did in the blockbusters of his childhood, leaving us to wonder what he has been up to in the meantime.

One of the weird things about growing up is that no matter where we do it, certain experiences are nearly universal. Nervousness about leaving home for the first time, the butterflies of early romances, and familial friction are things almost every teen experiences, but how they experience them can be wildly different. One big factor in how we experience growing up is where we grow up, and that's why some of the best coming-of-age films focus on their locations. From Greta Gerwig's portrait of Sacramento in her 2017 film "Lady Bird" to John Carney's musical take on 1980s Ireland in his 2016 film "Sing Street," location can play a major role in great coming-of-age stories.

Jenna Ortega has become one of the most in-demand actresses in Hollywood after she revived everyone's favorite dark and macabre girl, Wednesday Addams, on Netflix's hit series, Wednesday. Ortega got her start at just nine years old in Disney's Stuck in the Middle and began to flourish in the horror genre with a small part in Insidious: Chapter 2, before launching herself into more poignant roles in Scream and X. It was with these films that she landed herself the title of one of this generation's best Scream Queens. But it wasn't until 2022 when she appeared in The Fallout and blew audiences away with an emotionally powerful role as Vada, a high school girl navigating through the aftermath of a school shooting. It's an important story about dealing with emotional trauma—a weighty subject that coins The Fallout as Ortega's true breakout role.

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has unveiled its nominees for the 2025 WGA Awards, highlighting a mix of familiar Oscar frontrunners, unexpected entries, and the creative reshuffling prompted by ineligible contenders.
Sean Baker’s critically acclaimed “Anora” is leading the original screenplay list, which many consider the Oscar frontrunner in this category. Another strong contender is Jesse Eisenberg’s “A Real Pain,” a personal, semi-autobiographical drama that has been a critical favorite this season.
The inclusion of Justin Kuritzkes’ “Challengers” — a romantic sports drama starring Zendaya — is significant. After its high-profile shutout at the BAFTA Awards, this nomination could rejuvenate its awards season momentum. Adding variety to the category is Alex Garland’s bold post-apocalyptic thriller, “Civil War,” and Megan Park’s sweet yet irreverent comedy, “My Old Ass.” Park, who won praise for her directorial debut “The Fallout,” is also a DGA nominee for first-time director.

Jenna Ortega receives high praise from the co-star of her upcoming thriller movie. Ortega's first movie role was a brief appearance as the Vice President's daughter in Iron Man 3. In the 2010s, her notable television roles included playing a young Jane Villanueva in Jane the Virgin and starring as Harley Diaz in Disney Channel's Stuck in the Middle. She also played Ellie Alves in season 2 of the popular Netflix series You.
Most of Jenna Ortega's best movies have been released in the first half of the 2020s. She received acclaim for her performance as Vada Cavell in The Fallout, in which she plays a teenager dealing with the aftermath of a high school shooting. Ortega helped revitalize the Scream franchise as Tara Carpenter in 2022's Scream and in Scream VI and contributed to the box office success of Tim Burton's Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. The Directors Guild of America (DGA) has revealed its nominees for the upcoming 2025 awards, and it’s a high-stakes Oscar season, proven by the notable snubs and surprises. The five filmmakers contending for the prestigious DGA Award for Directorial Achievement in Feature Film are the following:
Jacques Audiard for “Emilia Pérez” Sean Baker for “Anora” Edward Berger for “Conclave” Brady Corbet for “The Brutalist” James Mangold for “A Complete Unknown”
It’s a category entirely of first-time DGA nominees. Most notably, this is significant for Mangold, who nabbed the first of his career for the Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown,” which continues to pick up momentum coming after its haul at the SAG Awards noms. After helming films like “Walk the Line” (2005), “Logan” (2017) and “Ford v Ferrari” (2019), this piece of notoriety seemed long overdue.

Actors who got their start on Disney Channel have starred in plenty of entertaining films over the years. Having the freedom to branch out as an actor, these stars have dabbled in various genres, including moving drama films, showstopping musicals, and hilarious comedies.
Serious films like The Iron Claw and The Fallout, starring Zac Efron and Jenna Ortega, respectively, show a different side to the beloved actors that audiences rarely saw while they were on Disney Channel. Did Jenna Ortega perform autopsies on animals? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Yep, real-life Wednesday Addams vibes right there. In a recent Wired interview, Jenna Ortega opened up about her strange childhood hobby—dissecting dead lizards she found in her backyard. It’s safe to say this places her squarely in the “weirdo” category. And she’s all about embracing it.
But the weirdness doesn’t stop with lizards. Jenna also bonded with fellow oddball Maddie Ziegler, the Dance Moms alum, over their shared quirks. The two instantly clicked while filming The Fallout, and Jenna summed it up perfectly: “We’re the same person in different fonts.” Maddie’s quirk? Spontaneously breaking into characters or pulling weird faces. Jenna’s? Well, performing mini autopsies on backyard critters. Talk about a match made in weirdo heaven.
In the interview, Jenna explained she wasn’t hunting down these animals—she just found them already dead.

Aubrey Plaza's newest movie is officially a critical success — which also means the studio behind the super popular film, Amazon, is pretty happy right now.
In "My Old Ass," we first meet the movie's protagonist Elliott as her younger self played by Maisy Stella as she prepares to take hallucinogenic mushrooms with her friends; when she does, she "meets" her 39-year-old self played by Plaza (who recently stunned audiences on the Marvel series "Agatha All Along"). When Older Elliott dispenses some advice — including a strangely specific note to stay away from some boy named Chad — younger Elliot is suspicious at first but realizes that following it actually helps her solve some critical problems, so she starts seeking out her older counterpart to try and get through her younger years unscathed.

Aubrey Plaza's new dramedy with a 90% Rotten Tomatoes score tops a movies streaming chart. Starting her career in improv and sketch comedy, Plaza rose to prominence on Parks and Recreation as the sarcastic and deadpan April Ludgate, establishing her distinct comedic style. On television, Plaza has also showcased her range as a strait-laced lawyer in The White Lotus season 2, earning an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, and starred in the Marvel miniseries Agatha All Along.

My Old Ass (2024) succeeds as a time travel movie for the same reason that many classics in the subgenre have worked so successfully; it understands that time travel itself is a mechanism used to create interesting plot scenarios, regardless of whether or not the logic of the science makes any actual sense. “Back to the Future” works because the concept of a teenager meeting his parents when they were young is brilliant; similarly, the concept of reliving the same day over and over again is what makes “Groundhog Day” fun, even though it never really offers an explanation for why this is happening.
“My Old Ass” won’t be heralded in the same breath as “Back to the Future” or “Groundhog Day,” but it does find an inventive way of showing the path the inherent struggles with growing older and accepting uncomfortable truths about adulthood. At the center of Megan Park...

My Old Ass has proven to be a massive streaming hit on Prime Video, and its a timely reminder to check out director Megan Parks first movie, The Fallout, starring Jenna Ortega. Park started out as an actor, best known for her TV role as Grace Bowman in The Secret Life of the American Teenager, but shes since become an acclaimed filmmaker. My Old Ass is her sophomore feature, and with 90% on Rotten Tomatoes and impressive streaming viewership numbers, its made her a household name.
My Old Ass is a unique take on the coming-of-age genre. Like many coming-of-age films, it revolves around a young adult whos eager to spread her wings and enjoy the independence of adulthood, but unlike most coming-of-age films, she has a direct line to her older self, whos filled with regret and world-weary wisdom. Before Park helmed My Old Ass, she made her feature directorial...

Megan Park’s two features, “The Fallout” and “My Old Ass,” couldn’t be more tonally different — one is about a high schooler dealing with a very contemporary trauma and one is about a high schooler connecting with her future self. With or without help from the vision of her as a 39-year-old (Aubrey Plaza), “My Old Ass” star Maisy Stella’s Elliot needs to figure out, as all high schoolers must, what kind of relationships she wants to pursue.
But a strength of Park’s work across both films is her ability to be both incredibly specific in voice, humor, and pacing about universal themes. One of the challenges and great joys of “My Old Ass” was Park’s ability to shape the film to echo the ‘90s coming-of-age stories she loves, while feeling both of this moment and somewhat timeless.

Some films capture the "before" events that may have paved the way to a certain killer's horrific deed say, a mass shooting. Others put us right smack in the middle of the terror, with the mass killings playing out in immersive real time for the film's duration. And then, there are movies that opt to eloquently dissect the traumatic aftermath of any sort of violence. All these cinematic reference points have been captured effectively in movies in relation to high school shootings specifically. A "before" example might be We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lynne Ramsay. A captivating "during" film might be the Palme d'Or-winning Elephant by Gus Van Sant. And here, we're discussing an example of the "after" with The Graduates.
And if you've already seen The Fallout (2021) starring Jenna Ortega, this new debut feature by writer-director Hannah Peterson is certainly a good follow-up and also a thought-provoking standalone effort,...

Disney has announced two new music-driven comedy series to premiere in 2025 on Disney Channel and Disney+.
One of them, “Vampirina,” is based on the children’s books by Anne Maria Pace and inspired by the Disney Jr. animated series from Chris Nee. The new series follows a young vampire girl who leaves Transylvania to attend a performing arts boarding school and pursue her passion for music — all while keeping her identity a secret, “something that’s made more challenging when her overprotective father charges an overzealous ghost to live with her at the school,” per the logline.
The other series, “How We Became the Biggest Band in the World,” follows three members of a famous pop group, Electric Bloom, as they reminisce and tell the story of their band and friendship, starting with the day they met in middle school. According to the logline, “the girls go on a journey...

From documentaries like Bowling For Columbine to The Fallout, which features one of Jenna Ortegas best performances, movies about school shootings are not new and are unfortunately more timely than ever. The Graduates has quite a few similarities to the latter it focuses on the survivors in the aftermath of the event, centers around a friendship, and features a star-making performance from its lead, Mina Sundwall but Hannah Petersons thoughtful direction sets it apart, making it feel both authentic and unique.

Aubrey Plaza is one of the highlights of Francis Ford Coppolas Megalopolis, but she has a starring role in another new movie thats an even better showcase of her acting talents. Although Megalopolis has received extremely mixed reviews from critics, Plazas performance is one of the few bright spots that has been praised across the board. Plaza stars alongside Adam Driver and Giancarlo Esposito in the supporting role of Wow Platinum, and her performance is just as memorable and unconventional as her characters name.
Wow is an insatiable TV personality who delivers the financial news and, ironically, has an unquenchable thirst for money and power. That first-time feature filmmaker Hannah Peterson has been mentored by both Chloé Zhao and Sean Baker is readily apparent in her debut feature, “The Graduates,” a deep-feeling and enormously affecting look at life after terrible tragedy.

My Old Ass is a wild, genre-bending adventure directed by Megan Park, blending stoner comedy, sci-fi, melodrama, and even a hint of Hallmark-style sentimentality. Park’s sophomore film, following her thoughtful debut The Fallout, offers a more absurdist take on adolescence — this time with time travel, a picturesque lake town, and the ever-charming Aubrey Plaza.
The film centres on Elliot (Maisy Stella), a small-town teen in her last summer before heading off to college, and her older, time-traveling self (Plaza), who comes back to offer guidance and support.
The Muskoka, Ontario, setting gives the movie a postcard-level charm, creating a perfect contrast with the sillier moments of the film, where pansexual stoner vibes and time-bending high jinks come into play.
While it flirts with surrealism, Park’s film manages to avoid falling into outright chaos. Instead, it uses its more bizarre elements, like Plaza’s effortlessly offbeat energy, to anchor the emotional beats.

Gen Z can be particularly hard to please, but 38-year-old Megan Park may have cracked the code.
The director behind “The Fallout” tackled a new coming-of-age story in “My Old Ass,” one that took her back to her roots in Canada on Lake Joseph.
The film follows Elliott (Maisy Stella) as she tries cherishing her last summer before heading to college, but happens to encounter her 39-year-old self, played by Aubrey Plaza. Park’s sophomore film centers Gen Z in a way that feels genuine to this era, something she noticed was missing as a young actress.

An announcement of a new major film may indicate that Jenna Ortega can get her dream role fulfilled. Ortega's career has seen a meteoric rise in recent years. In addition, the actor has also fashioned herself a horror scream queen, contributing her talents to projects like X and the Scream reboot.
As Wednesday season 2 continues developing, Ortega continues to be a strong working actor. This year, she starred in the Tim Burton sequel film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which has become immensely successful at the box office. As more and more of the actor's films and TV shows become popular, the rising star will have more and more of her pick at high-caliber projects. With one major movie announcement recently,...

While the film My Old Ass may present itself as a goofy comedy exploring what it would be like to be a coming-of-age teenager meeting an older version of herself, it is instead a more existential and heartfelt drama that explores the choices that shape our lives and whether those choices should be second-guessed, ignored, or blindly followed.
On her eighteenth birthday, Elliot (Maisy Stella) embarks on a weekend camping trip with two friends – Ruthie (Maddie Ziegler) and Ro (Kerrice Brooks) – wherein they, among other typical girl’s night out fare, partake of some hallucinogenic mushrooms that bring Maisy face-to-face with her 39-year-old self (played by Aubrey Plaza) who blatantly warns her to stay away from a mysterious boy named Chad that she has never met. Then, of course, the next day, she meets Chad and the advice doesn’t seem as unbelievable as it did just one day earlier.

Life is, so often, not at all like the movies. It’s not even like TV. There was no lightbulb moment, no ah-ha! that made actress Megan Park decide to move behind the camera for the next creative and professional chapter of her life. In fact, during her early days acting on shows like “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” and “Life with Derek,” Park said she remembered thinking, “I would never want to be a director.”
But while one part of Park might’ve thought “no, never,” what she was really doing was filing away the things she didn’t want to do when it came time to direct. During a recent interview with IndieWire in lower Manhattan in the weeks before the release of her second directorial effort, the Sundance hit “My Old Ass,” Park reflected on some of the earlier lessons that shaped her into such a wonderful chronicler of young,...

The quality of actress Jenna Ortega's movies has ranged from great, like The Babysitter: Killer Queen, to less-than-stellar, like Saving Flora. Ortega rose to stardom with the title role in the Netflix supernatural dramedy series Wednesday, a role that scored her Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations, but shes been acting since 2012. The actress has appeared in both big-budget blockbusters like Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and smaller indie films like Wyrm and The Fallout. Her roles in horror films like X, Insidious: Chapter 2, and the Scream franchise have earned her a place in the scream queen pantheon.
Wednesday Addams is the role that defines Ortegas career, but shes played a wide variety of characters. In addition to playing the Addams Familys morose daughter in her own TV spin-off, Ortega has played a school shooting survivor, an adult film star, and a Scream final girl who broke the trope in feature-length movies.

Sometimes, a coming-of-age film like My Old Ass helps us understand not only our past but our future. Even one that, as I have written many times before, makes you appreciate what you have and long for what you don’t. The exception is that My Old Ass is hardly manipulative.
In fact, Megan Park’s hilarious, vibrant, and overall heart-rendering tale is far from it. There are moments of familial authenticity that ring true throughout the picture. Nothing is more genuine than an older version of yourself counseling your youthful exuberance about how time is fleeting.
Those are the moments that My Old Ass depicts you remember and where you most likely hold your regret.

While Beetlejuice 2 may have been Jenna Ortega's biggest 2024 release, the actress has several other upcoming movies and TV shows in the works. Ortega got her acting start in commercials before making the jump to TV in 2012 with small roles. In just two years, she started to acquire more prominent roles in shows like Rake and Jane the Virgin. By then, Ortega was also appearing in movies. Following her stint on the Disney Channel's Stuck in the Middle, Ortega's movie career grew with roles in movies like The Babysitter: Killer Queen, Yes Day, and The Fallout.
While Ortega appeared in You season 2 and voiced a character in Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous, her career took off in 2022 with the releases of Scream and Wednesday. Some of Ortega's other best horror movies came in the few years that followed, with a sequel to the slasher franchise Scream VI and Ti West's X.

Growing up sucks. Time seems to move faster than we can reasonably keep pace with, the crushing disappointment of reality never quite lives up to our naïve expectations, and even the fondest of memories can fade and turn into deep wells of regret. None of these are particularly profound observations for anyone legally old enough to drink, and they're certainly nothing that countless movies haven't already addressed in every conceivable way. So when yet another R-rated coming-of-age dramedy pops up on the radar -- centered on the well-worn trope of an idealistic 18-year-old relishing her last summer at home before moving away to bigger and better things in the city -- a healthy dose of skepticism would appear to be fair game. Even a talent like Megan Park, whose directorial debut "The Fallout" instantly made her a name worth paying attention to, would be hard-pressed to wring anything new out of this premise.
