During the process of doing background research for the show, creator Justin Spitzer got in contact with Alessandro F. Uzielli, the head of Ford Motor Company's global brand entertainment division, the company's liaison to Hollywood, and the great-great-grandson of company founder Henry Ford. They visited Ford's corporate offices in Dearborn, Michigan as well toured the design labs and the Dearborn Truck Plant where F-150s are made.
Justin Spitzer, the creator of the series, said, "The people at corporate aren't bad people; they're good people doing their best to try to make the company work, and, sometimes, their decisions have bad effects on the employees."

While looking up complaints about one of the company's car models in the episode Recall (season 1, episode 7), customer service rep Alex says one customer complained about ghosts in their car and she calls them crazy. Betsy Sodaro, who plays Alex, also plays a ghost on the CBS series Ghosts (2021).
