The perils and plights of adolescence have long been a source of fascination for television audiences. That’s particularly apparent nowadays with Netflix, HBO, Hulu, Showtime, FX, and others vying for zeitgeist dominance with teen-focused dramas playing to a variety of creative strengths. As narratives have gotten more sophisticated overall across the TV landscape, it makes sense that the ways in which we look at stories about young people have also evolved. From “Never Have I Ever” to “Yellowjackets,” TV teens in 2023 are among some of the most rich ever written.

Shailene Woodley (“Big Little Lies”) is set to headline “A Beautiful Journey,” an English-language comedy-drama feature from French writer-director Nathalie Marchak (“Out of Instinct”).
“A Beautiful Journey” is being produced by Anonymous Federation, a joint venture between Anonymous Content and Federation Studios, and Gabman, the company founded by Valerie Garcia, who previously co-headed one of France’s leading distribution shingles, Mars Films.
Rosalie Cimino, a former top agent at Paris-based firm Ubba, will produce on behalf of Anonymous Federation, while Garcia will produce on behalf of Gabman. Principal photography will begin in the fall.
Woodley will play Mary, an ex-swimming champion who now works as a mermaid at the New York Aquarium, struggling to raise her 7-year-old son, Lulu, on her own. When they get evicted, to protect him, she pretends they are about to embark on a beautiful journey. But in doing so, she’s beginning to lose — and eventually find — herself.

After nine years, Ben Affleck's Christian Wolff is back. Amazon MGM Studios has dropped a final trailer for The Accountant 2 ahead of its release in theaters this Friday.
While the trailer does feature new footage from the upcoming sequel, most of the 67-second video is dedicated to reading early critic reviews to get the audience hyped for "a hell of a ride." Affleck and Jon Bernthal's onscreen chemistry as brothers was also singled out in the trailer, while a pull-quote from Ryan McQuade of Awards Watch called The Accountant 2 "one of the most entertaining movies of the year." Check out the final trailer for The Accountant 2 below.

What's the connection between Star Trek and Happy Days? There are several: Anson Williams, who played Potsie on Happy Days, later directed two episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and four episodes of Voyager. Don Most, who played Ralph Malph on Happy Days, guest-starred in a Voyager two-parter.
Also, though it cannot be 10,000% proven, it's thought that Robin Williams' Mork costume, which he first wore during a guest appearance on Happy Days, and then later on Mork & Mindy, was created using the costume that Phillip Pine wore during his guest spot as Col. Green in Star Trek: The Original Series episode "The Savage Curtain." And, as many Star Trek: The Next Generation fans know, Robin Williams -- a major Trek fan -- almost guest-starred on The Next Generation.
Delving into more detail, Anson Williams directed more than 150 episodes of nearly 40 different shows, as well as several made-for-television movies.

Nostalgia is often a driving force for media success, especially for TV shows and movies from the past. Shows from the Y2K era can be the best source for that nostalgia kick, and Freeform provides plenty.

Netflix is very quickly becoming the home of previous years’ box office disasters, and to prove a point, 2023’s crime thriller To Catch a Killer starring Shailene Woodley and Ben Mendelsohn is sitting at the top of the streamer’s movie chart. While the film is underrated by some, there is no way to deny that it was a complete flop at the box office, taking just $3.1 million at the box office on its initial release.
Damián Szifron directed and wrote the project, with Jonathan Wakeham also serving as a writer. Szifron and Woodley are also producers alongside Stuart Manashil (Watcher) and Aaron Ryder (Arrival). When it comes to sitcoms, How I Met Your Mother is one of the most popular and beloved comedy series of all time, fondly remembered by fans despite its infamously disappointing finale. The series, which ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2014, followed a group of young adults in New York City and the ups and downs of their dating lives, particularly with the character of Ted Mosby, with the main mystery of the series revolving around who would be the mother to his future kids.
Given the immense popularity of the series and the streaming era bringing an age of reboots, remakes, and revivals, it was only natural that a follow-up series would eventually air.

Shailene Woodley initially didn’t realize her mother in The Secret Life of the American Teenager was actually an ’80s teen icon.
The actress revealed during a recent appearance on Vanity Fair’s “Scene Selection” that she had no idea who Molly Ringwald was when they first started working together on the ABC Family drama, which ran from 2008 to 2013. Ringwald played Anne Juergens, the mother of Woodley’s Amy Juergens, on the show.
“I didn’t know who Molly Ringwald was,” Woodley confessed. “I was 15, didn’t grow up with a TV. The actress revealed during a recent appearance on Vanity Fair’s “Scene Selection” that she had no idea who Molly Ringwald was when they first started working together on the ABC Family drama, which ran from 2008 to 2013. Austin Stowell plays Leroy Gibbs in NCIS: Origins, a prequel show about the special agent's backstory and formative years. Original Gibbs actor and series producer Mark Harmon explained why his son Sean didn't reprise his role as the younger Gibbs.
The two-part premiere of NCIS: Origins aired this week, ushering in the NCIS franchise's sixth installment. The new show offers a unique perspective because it revolves around a much younger Leroy Gibbs (played by Austin Stowell), the main protagonist of the original NCIS. Mark Harmon reprises the role but as a narrator journaling his early years at the Naval Investigative Service. Fans expected Harmon's son Sean would reprise his role as younger Gibbs in NCIS: Origins; Sean Harmon played Gibbs in flashback scenes in the original series. Mark Harmon told Variety that Sean is still heavily involved in NCIS: Origins but behind the scenes.

Maisy Stella hadn’t heard the word “action” in years.
The 20-year-old actor grew up on the set of the ABC drama “Nashville,” in which she and her older sister, Lennon, played the daughters of Connie Britton’s country music superstar. After the show ended, Stella, then 15, took a break from Hollywood to attend high school.
Having graduated, she’s returning to the screen in Megan Park’s “My Old Ass,” a coming-of-age comedy that premiered at Sundance. That’s where Amazon MGM bought the film, which opens in theaters nationwide on Sept. 19. But after all that time away, Stella was nervous about her first day back on set.
“I remember thinking I did a horrible job,” she recalls of the scene, which required her to storm into a lake fully clothed. “There was a little piece of wood underneath me. If I went two steps to my right or two steps to my left,...

Life is, so often, not at all like the movies. It’s not even like TV. There was no lightbulb moment, no ah-ha! that made actress Megan Park decide to move behind the camera for the next creative and professional chapter of her life. In fact, during her early days acting on shows like “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” and “Life with Derek,” Park said she remembered thinking, “I would never want to be a director.”
But while one part of Park might’ve thought “no, never,” what she was really doing was filing away the things she didn’t want to do when it came time to direct. During a recent interview with IndieWire in lower Manhattan in the weeks before the release of her second directorial effort, the Sundance hit “My Old Ass,” Park reflected on some of the earlier lessons that shaped her into such a wonderful chronicler of young,...

Wayne Brady debuted his reality TV show several weeks ago, mainly receiving positive reactions.
The series Wayne Brady: The Family Remix features Wayne with his ex-wife, Mandie Taketa, their daughter, Maile Brady, and Mandie’s boyfriend, Jason Fordham.
The group is known as the Core Four, and the episodes focus on the everyday lives of the unique blended family.
One of the topics examined in the episodes included the revelation that Wayne has a baby son, whom he shares with another woman who few knew about until the premiere episode.
Family Remix also covers Wayne’s coming out as pansexual, which he officially did in 2023.
However, while many viewers love the new show, others complained about the Freeform network and its reality TV series for some key reasons.

Some TV actors criticize their shows due to bad messaging or unwanted character arcs. These concerns can lead to actors quitting shows abruptly, sometimes despite the show's massive success. Hollywood actors like Katherine Heigl and Harold Perrineau have openly criticized their TV shows.
Some actors have been known to criticize their own TV shows, especially TV shows that get worse as they continue. The fact is, Hollywood is a difficult and competitive business and actors may take roles to get their careers off the ground that they are not particularly proud of later on. However, it is also possible that the actor genuinely believed the show in question was worthwhile, but the writers took the story in directions they (and sometimes also the critics) didn't approve of.

Friends. South Park. Frasier. Family Guy. Some of TV’s longest-running sitcoms premiered in the 1990s, and remain relevant and beloved if not still producing new episodes today. But a decade is a long time, executives try a lot of ideas to fill their schedules, and since broadcast TV programming is kind of a zero-sum game, far more sitcoms premiered than ever found an audience. The question is: which ones deserved better?
A word on methodology here: I took the term “forgotten” very literally. That means I didn’t consider any ‘90s sitcom that’s streaming on a legitimate pay or subscription platform; any ‘90s sitcom that lasted more than one season; and any of which only the pilot is available to watch — illegitimately, since pilots have to jam in so much exposition that judging a show’s quality by that episode alone doesn’t offer an accurate picture of where it aspires to go.

College life is a unique and transformative experience, filled with late-night studying, new friendships, and a fair share of challenges. Television shows often try to capture this dynamic environment, but not all of them get it right. As a college student, you might be curious about which shows depict your reality accurately and which ones fall short.
When juggling classes, assignments, and exams, finding time to relax can be challenging. Watching TV shows that resonate with your college experience can be a great way to unwind. And if your workload becomes overwhelming, you can always rely on an online paper writing service to help manage your academic responsibilities.
Shows That Accurately Depict College Life “Community”
“Community” is a standout when it comes to portraying college life, albeit through a comedic lens. The show is set at Greendale Community College and follows a diverse group of students navigating their educational journeys.

The Divergent series cast includes rising stars such as Shailene Woodley and Theo James, who gained fame from the movies. The Divergent series was canceled due to lack of success, leading the original cast to move on to other projects. Characters like Tris and Four faced themes of loyalty and sacrifice, evolving into formidable leaders in the faction-divided world.
The Divergent series main cast includes 12 prominent actors, many of whom rose to fame during the 2010s. Some of them may not have been big names when these movies came out in 2014-2016, but all of them are now bonafide stars on film and TV. The Divergent series refers to the trilogy of movies based on books by Veronica Roth, titled Divergent, Insurgent, and Allegiant. The three Divergent movies starred Shailene Woodley and Theo James in the lead roles, with a massive ensemble cast, including veterans, rising stars, and several award-winning actors.

This article contains discussions of sex, teen pregnancy, and abortion. It also contains Spoilers for Disney+'s Pauline.
Pauline explores subjects that could be considered offensive to conservative and Christian viewers, making it controversial. Disney's shift to tackle mature themes in series like Pauline shows that the belief it only caters to children is outdated. Despite being dubbed satanic and woke, Pauline is one of Disney's best shows, blending gripping storytelling and compelling characters.
A 6-episode German series called Pauline has quickly become Disney+'s most controversial show, turning heads with its very concept. Like most studios that have changed with the times, Disney has been accused of having a "woke" agenda in recent years from certain segments of the internet. Controversies have arisen from moments like Good Luck Charlie including a lesbian couple, Lafou dancing with a man in the live-action Beauty and the Beast, and Lightyear showing a kiss between two women.

Mark’s son Sean is also involved in the project. Sean played Gibbs during several flashback episodes of NCIS.
Now we know who will play the (new) younger version of Gibbs.

It takes some time to fall in love with 18-year-old Elliott in “My Old Ass.” As played by Maisy Stella, she’s young and self-involved, so focused on heading off to college in the big city that she’s kind of a jerk to everyone around her (especially her small-town cranberry-farming family). Maybe young adult audiences won’t think so. Canadian actor-turned-auteur Megan Park’s sweetly insightful coming-of-age comedy is intended for them — whereas adults might not have so much patience for the way Stella’s impulsive character takes for granted what are arguably her best years.
Don’t worry, the movie is great, and Elliott eventually grows on you. Besides, her initially off-putting persona is kind of the point of Park’s older-and-wiser second feature, which follows the director’s terrific SXSW-winning debut “The Fallout.” Park plays a magic trick early in the film: Elliott and her besties (Maddie Ziegler...

"The Dukes of Hazzard" was one of the biggest shows in the '70s, but where are the actors now? Did they all live to see old age? Sadly many of the show's main stars have since passed on, but their memory lives on in the timeless television series. The series centered around Bo and Luke Duke, played by John Schneider and Tom Wopat. They delivered vigilante justice for their county, protecting it from the corrupt political power-player, Boss Hogg. They are saddled with trying to save the Duke family farm from Hogg's grasp, which forces them to devise get-rich-quick schemes and lands them in various hijinks.
Many of the supporting actors were already middle-aged when the series aired, so sadly, Denver Pyle who played Jesse Duke, James Best who played Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane, Sorrell Booke who played Boss Hog, and Waylon Jennings who played The Balladeer have all since passed.

It’s almost impossible to escape once you get involved with the mob, and if I were Emile Hirsch‘s Bobby Belluci, I’d start learning how to swim with the fishes. Vertical Entertainment proudly presents an Inside Man trailer depicting a bloody tale of deception, dangerous liaisons, and a disturbing body count. Based on actual events, Inside Man tells the story of Bobby Belluci, a disgraced police detective seeking redemption by going undercover to expose a violent crime syndicate. However, as Bobby sinks deeper into the mob, the price for absolution may be higher than he can afford.
Danny A. Abeckaser directs from a screenplay by Kosta Kondiloppulos. Taking place during the 1960s and 1970s, Inside Man stars Lucy Hale, Jake Cannavale, Ashley Greene, Vincent Laresca, Kyle Stefanski, Greg Finley, and Bo Dietl alongside Hirsch.
Inside Man comes to theaters and VOD on August 11, giving audiences two different opportunities...
