Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown are two of the biggest names in streaming, and they have teamed up for a new Netflix hit. Warfare co-directors Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland explain the personal inspiration for making the Iraq War film. Serving as Garland's follow-up to Civil War (2024), Warfare chronicles the experiences of one Navy Seal platoon in Ramada, Iraq, with memory serving as the basis of the story. For Mendoza, who is a former Navy Seal, the upcoming movie marks his feature film debut as a director after serving as a military or technical advisor on projects like Civil War, The Terminal List (2022), The Outpost (2019), and Lone Survivor (2013).
In a recent interview with Empire magazine, Garland and Mendoza talk about Warfare's origins, with the co-directors revealing that the movie stems from a fortuitous aligning of creative goals. While Garland was interested in recreating a real event as accurately as possible on film, Mendoza's motivation was far more personal. The debut of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s live-action Dcu is creeping ever closer, and that means that rumors of what fans can expect are ramping up with it. One big rumor – and it is just a rumor, so let’s not all wet our pants on the outside yet – is that there is one cameo appearance by a big A-lister in Superman that has not yet been unveiled.
Let’s kick this off by saying the original rumor comes from Hollywood insider, Jeff Sneider, so everyone get your salt buckets ready. With that in mind, the suggestion is that Gunn has enlisted a big star to make a small appearance in the summer blockbuster as Superman’s father, Jor-El. While Sneider tosses around names like the child-catcher handing out sweets to unsuspecting children, with the likes of Tom Cruise and Chris Pratt being name-checked, the likelihood of either...

Plot: In an alternate 1990s devasted by a war between humans and robots, a young woman (Millie Bobby Brown) teams up with a former soldier (Chris Pratt) to find her long-lost brother, who’s somewhere in a no man’s land populated by the robots who once fought mankind.
Review: The Electric State is perhaps Netflix’s most ambitious film to date. Sporting a budget that’s said to be in the $320 million range, which would make it one of the most expensive movies ever made, it’s as lavish and high-concept as anything you’d find in theaters. Yet, it also takes intriguing source material, in this case, Simon Stålenhag’s graphic novel of the same title, and turns it into episodic, easy-to-watch fare you can wander in and out of without missing much plot. As such, it’s impressively mounted but still a streaming movie to its core for better or for worse.

Over the course of the first season, Reece exacts revenge with the help of his friend and former teammate Ben Edwards (Taylor Kitsch). By the end of the first season, Edwards admitted his involvement with the...

Exclusive: Aaron Holliday (Cocaine Bear), Jermaine Fowler (Sorry to Bother You), Michael Abbott Jr. (Fallout) and Sean Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) have wrapped on Appofeniacs, an indie horror film from writer-director Chris Marrs Piliero.
Appofeniacs is a riff on the term “apophenia” which is the tendency to find connections or patterns in things that are unrelated or random — common examples being confirmation bias and paranoia. This marks the feature debut for Piliero, who is known for his music video work with Ariana Grande, Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne, Kesha, and The Black Keys (for which he won an MTV VMA).
Piliero independently financed and produced the film, which also stars Will Brandt, Paige Searcy, Simran Jehani, Harley Bronwyn, and Sean Wing. Gunn exec produced the pic, with Salvatore Schiavone and Jonathan Voluck handling casting.
Previously seen in Universal’s horror comedy Cocaine Bear, Holliday has also been seen on HBO’s Euphoria and Sharp Objects.

Quick LinksHow Does Jai Courtney Play Captain Boomerang?Who Does Jai Courtney Play in American Primeval?
The following contains spoilers for American Primeval, now streaming on Netlflix.
James Gunn has confused fans about what's being kept for the new Dcu. He said that Creature Commandos Season 1 is where the reboot starts, although certain elements from The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker (both of which he helmed) will be retained. As polarizing as that is, there were bright spots from that era which Zack Snyder kickstarted. One of them is the underrated Captain Boomerang.
Played by Australian actor Jai Courtney, the Dceu's Boomerang was the most unhinged member of the Suicide Squad, surpassing that same energy from the comics and other DC media. Interestingly, Courtney plays a similarly maniacal character in what is arguably Netflix's best Western: American Primeval. In the 2025 series, Courtney's character is a lot more sadistic as a merciless leader.

After years of waiting, recently surfaced information hints at when fans may end up seeing The Terminal List Season 2.
Season 1 of the Amazon Prime action thriller was released back in 2022, adapting the events of Jack Carr's 2018 novel of the same name.
Starring Chris Pratt in its lead role, a Season 2 felt like it was inevitable (especially considering the stellar viewership numbers for the first batch of episodes). In 2023 Season 2 was officially greenlit, but that was one of the last times fans heard about the series...until now.

Every A-lister in Hollywood is loaded, but to state the obvious, it is not like TV stars aren’t, especially in this era of prestige streaming. If you’ve got the star power and the right role, you’re looking at million-dollar paychecks. So, naturally, to rank them in order of their salaries becomes a laborious affair. Does one take into account the total money made throughout the course of the show? Per episode, perhaps?
A tall order of names, meanwhile, emerges if one were to rank them using the per-episode metric. James Gandolfini in The Sopranos, Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons in The Big Bang Theory, Nicole Kidman in Big Little Lies, and Jennifer Aniston in Friends all clocked in a million dollars for their respective roles.

Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson’s sci-fi action thriller Mercy is being shown little of the stuff by Amazon MGM Studios, as the film has been given a hefty kick into 2026. Originally scheduled to go up against Bob Odenkirk’s Nobody 2 on August 15, 2025, fans will now have to wait until January 23, 2026, to see the movie arrive in theaters.
Mercy is directed by Timur Bekmambetov, who previously at the helm of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and 2016’s Ben-Hur remake, and follows a detective (played by Pratt) who attempts to clear his name after being accused of a crime he did not commit. Filming on the movie wrapped in May 2024, which should have been more than enough time for post-production work, making it hard to work out why the delay happened.
Obviously, there are plenty of reasons that can be theorized for the delay. January is known as a month where...

One of the coolest and most beloved sub-genres for thriller, action, and drama fans is the spy genre, and there’s a good reason. In a spy film or series, we get complicated and cool characters who put their lives on the line by going against numerous people, and instead of always letting their guns talk, they use more covert tactics, which are always thrilling to watch. So, Prime Video being what it is, it has a large library of content, and also some of the best spy shows you can find, and that’s what inspired us to compile a list of the best spy shows you can watch on Prime Video right now.

I learned about David Lynch’s passing in the most David Lynch possible way: doing jury duty. A fellow potential juror told me the news as we waited in the stark, Kafka-esque halls of L.A.’s Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice building. Instantly, the stone-faced bailiffs and unblinking prosecutors took on a subtle air of menace, as if I’d been sucked right into a cut scene from Twin Peaks or Lost Highway. When the Judge asked how I’d weigh eyewitness testimony, I couldn’t refrain from citing the power of framing in presenting evidence, or the inescapably unreliable nature of memory. The judge lectured me: “You do realize this is real-life, and not a television show?” I was quickly dismissed from jury duty.
Reading the odes to Lynch, his art, and the supremely unique notion of the “Lynchian” he left the world, many have lovingly called him a surrealist master.

There are several other movies and shows similar to Netflix's epic period Western series American Primeval. American Primeval was written by Mark L. Smith, who co-wrote the screenplay for The Revenant with Alejandro G. Iñárritu. Peter Berg directs all six episodes of American Primeval. Taylor Kitsch leads an ensemble cast as Isaac Reed, which features Betty Gilpin, Dane DeHaan, Saura Lightfoot-Leon, Shea Whigham, Lucas Neff, and Kim Coates as Brigham Young. In addition to Young, American Primeval alters several real-life historical details and figures.
American Primeval uniquely blends brutal and violent elements of the horror genre with the classic Western. Despite its 59% Rotten Tomatoes score, it earned an 86% audience score and has been in Netflix's Top 10 TV Shows in the United States since it was released on January 9, 2025. Kitsch previously starred in the Peter Berg film Lone Survivor alongside Mark Wahlberg and Berg's classic television series Friday Night Lights.

Taylor Kitsch could have been a one-note actor. He was handsome, and could have delved into making a bunch of Hallmark films and been just fine. Instead, the British Columbian decided he wanted to stretch himself. He still got pigeonholed a bit.
He tends to get roles that show him as a bit rough around the edges. He plays the roles well, though one might want to see Kitsch get a chance to do something else. Maybe that time will come soon.
In the series below, Kitsch plays a lot of the same types of characters, but he is talented enough to bring some nuance to each role. The shows might not be perfect, but that is no fault of the actors. And his new series on Netflix, American Primeval, might rank as one of his best.
Ranking from worst to best each series that Taylor Kitsch has starred inNo.

The potential dangers are boundless in the limited series American Primeval, now streaming on Netflix Jan. 9.
Starring Taylor Kitsch, the raw, adventurous exploration of the birth of the American West comes to life in the six-episode series. Here’s everything you need to know so far about the grueling journey West.
This is America, 1857. Up is down, pain is everywhere, and innocence and tranquility are losing the battle to hatred and fear. Chris Pratt may have started out as a comedic actor, but he's since branched out to an array of other genres. After starring in Parks & Recreation, Pratt became a household name with his starring role as Star Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, most recently playing the character in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in 2023. He's also had a number of significant roles outside the MCU, both in other major franchises and beyond.
Pratt played Owen Grady in three Jurassic World movies, departing that franchise with Jurassic World Dominion in 2022. He also recently starred in sci-fi action flick The Tomorrow War (2021), which has a sequel in development. Pratt has also taken on far more serious military roles, including in Prime Video's The Terminal List series, but his first major venture into this arena actually came in 2012 with the release of a political thriller based on real events.

In recent years, Amazon has cornered the market on what you may call "Dad Thrillers." Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, Reacher, Bosch, The Terminal List, Cross — the list goes on. And now it looks like Prime Video may well be just about to bring us its Dadliest thriller yet. Per Deadline's reporting, John Krasinski — Jack Ryan himself — and Matthew Rhys, star of such dadly classics as Perry Mason and The Americans, are preparing to join forces and topline Silent River, an original thriller series created by Krasinski's Jack Ryan chum Aaron Rabin.
Though we know precious little about the ins and outs of the plot for this one at present, the vague description shared by Deadline has intrigue written all over it. It reads as follows: "Told through the lens of two men — played by Krasinski and Rhys — whose lives are far more connected than they realize, Silent River explores...

In such a competitive marketplace, all the big streaming services have been forced to carve out their own niche, something that sets it apart as something special. For Prime Video, that's become the Dad Thriller. It’s the home of Dadcore. Think Lee Child’s Reacher, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, and Jack Carr’s The Terminal List — all serviceable thrillers adapted from the pages of airport fiction. The latest to join these ranks, James Patterson's Cross, is attempting something different from the usual Dadcore fare, and it's better off for it.
As the star of over thirty books, not to mention two Morgan Freeman films and another starring Tyler Perry, Alex Cross is by this point a household name. Showrunner Ben Watkins could have easily played it safe and adapted an established book. Instead, Cross revolves around a new serial killer,...

In such a competitive marketplace, all the big streaming services have been forced to carve out their own niche, something that sets it apart as something special. Considering Amazons track record with book-to-tv adaptations along the lines of Reacher, Jack Ryan, Bosch, and The Terminal List, it shouldnt be the least bit shocking that James Pattersons iconic Alex Cross series would receive the same treatment. Its been a minute since weve seen the Mpdc detective on our screens after Morgan Freeman took on the role in the late '90s and early 2000s, and Tyler Perry tried his hand in the critically panned but now-forgotten 2012 film. Now seemed like the perfect time to bring the character to streaming.

Drew Starkey’s credits include roles in Love, Simon; Scream: The TV Series, The Devil All the Time, The Terminal List, and Queer, but he’s probably best known for playing the role of Rafe Cameron on the Netflix series Outer Banks – and now, Deadline is reporting that Starkey is the latest actor to join the cast of the action thriller Onslaught, which is coming our way from director Adam Wingard and screenwriter Simon Barrett.
Fresh off the success of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and with Face/Off 2 in development, Wingard and Barrett are returning to their roots with Onslaught, as the project is said to be “in the vein of their cult classics like The Guest and You’re Next.“
Starkey joins a cast that includes the previously announced Adria Arjona (Hit Man); Dan Stevens, who worked with Wingard and Barrett on The Guest and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire...

The Jurassic World Dominion cast brought together the two ensembles of characters from the current trilogy as well as the original. Directed by Colin Trevorrow from a screenplay he co-wrote with Emily Carmichael, Jurassic World Dominion marks the final film in the trilogy and the sixth installment in the Jurassic Park franchise. It wraps up a story that first began in Steven Spielbergs 1993 film and brings back plenty of familiar faces from the original for the Jurassic World 3 cast.
Set four years after Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Jurassic World Dominion explores a world that is shared by humans and dinosaurs alike. Dinosaur black markets have cropped up, poachers hunt the prehistoric creatures, and locusts are destroying harvests around the globe. Meanwhile, the villainous Jurassic Park rival Biosyn returns for more corporate wrongdoing. For the final adventure, Jurassic World Dominion brought back a few characters from Jurassic Park joining the...
