Showtime has cast David Dastmalchian (Oppenheimer) in Dexter: Resurrection in the guest starring role of “Gareth.” Production on the Dexter: New Blood followup series kicked off in January in New York and is set to premiere this summer on Paramount+ with Showtime.

Led by Michael C. Hall who returns to the role of the titular serial killer, the cast also includes returning stars David Zayas as Detective Angel Batista, Jack Alcott as Dexter’s son Harrison Morgan and James Remar as Dexter’s father Harry Morgan.

New additions also include Uma Thurman as Charley, Peter Dinklage as Leon Prater, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Blessing Kamara, Kadia Saraf as Detective Claudette Wallace, Dominic Fumusa as Detective Melvin Oliva and Emilia Suárez as Elsa Rivera.

David Dastmalchian is set to guest star on Showtime’s “Dexter: Resurrection,” which began production in January and is slated to premiere this summer on Paramount+.

The actor, whose best known for his roles in Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” and “The Dark Knight,” will portray a character named Gareth. Specific details about the role were not disclosed.

Dastmalchian’s other credits include “The Suicide Squad,” “Dune: Part One,” “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” and “Late Night with the Devil.” He’ll be seen next in Apple TV+’s “Murderbot” series premiering this May, and “Life of Chuck” debuting in June.

Hans Zimmer has voiced his frustration with the Academy’s decision to disqualify his Dune: Part Two score from Oscars consideration, calling the rule behind the ruling “stupid.” Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, the composer explained why he disagrees with the decision but does not see it as a personal slight.

“You know something? It’s not really a sore point. It’s just such a stupid point—how can it be a sore point?” Zimmer said. “I got disqualified because I was using material from the first movie in the second movie, but it’s not a sequel. “Cinema is an education,” Audiard declared at one point while speaking about the medium he loves so much. IMDb's Top 250 movies is a tough list for modern films to reach. It contains the best movies with the highest crowd-sourced ratings from any and all genres. Some of these are clear-cut candidates, like Adrien Brody's historical music biopic "The Pianist," which comes in 32nd on the list. Other movies are less sobering and more fantastical. For instance, all three of Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy films are in the top 12.

Sci-fi shows up a lot, too. "Interstellar" is ranked 19th. "The Matrix" is 16th. "The Empire Strikes Back" occupies the 15th spot, and "Inception" is the highest-ranked sci-fi of them all at 14th. With so many classics already on the list, it's hard for new releases to make the cut. Written by Nick Love the project is described as a “poignant coming-of-age story” based on life within the confines of a Young Offenders’ institution.

Animol was developed by Film4 in collaboration with Joi Productions. Sky is collaborating with Film4 for the first time as co-financiers on the project, with the BFI also financing. Bankside Films is handling international sales for the film.

Starring in the flick are Tut Nyuot and Vladyslav Baliuk, who feature as the two central teenagers in the Young Offenders’ institution. Veteran actor Stephen Graham joins the supporting cast as a Welfare Officer tasked with supporting the young offenders during their incarceration. Sharon Duncan-Brewster rounds off the ensemble.

This is despite the fact that Dune: Part Two was better reviewed than Part One and made more money at the box office than Part One. If you saw the movie, you know that Part Two finished adapting Frank Herbert's seminal 1965 sci-fi novel Dune, so it was no wonder that the second movie improved on the first; director Denis Villeneuve got to work with the juiciest parts of the book.

The studio earned the wrath of fans and filmmakers alike when they announced that films would be released on streaming on the same day as their theatrical release right after the pandemic under the leadership of Zaslav.

Now, the CEO’s treatment of legendary filmmaker Clint Eastwood’s supposed last film Juror #2 has been nothing short of insulting. Introduced for 2023’s ceremony where “Barbie” took home the statuette, eligible films must gross more than $150 million with a minimum of $100 million in the U.S. According to Box Office Mojo, 20 movies released in 2024 have grossed more than $100 million domestically, including Warner Bros’ “Dune 2,” which brought in more than $700 million globally.

According to Dick Clark Productions, the award recognizes “the year’s most acclaimed, highest-earning and/or most viewed films that have garnered extensive global audience support and attained cinematic excellence.”
