We Are Still Here Blu-ray / DVD Release Details and Cover Art
One of my favorite indie horror releases of the 2015, We Are Still Here is making its way to Blu-ray and DVD just in time for Halloween:

Press Release: A tragic death leaves a married couple devastated, but their misery soon turns into mortal fear in the thoroughly haunting new film We Are Still Here. The Dark Sky Films/Mpi theatrical release, from the producers of The House of the Devil and Cheap Thrills, comes to Blu-ray and DVD on October 6, 2015. We Are Still Here is an atmospheric, classically constructed haunted house story, but with modern, heightened tension and action. After their teenage son Bobby is killed in a car crash, Paul and Anne Sacchetti move to an isolated 19th-century house in the New England countryside to try to start a new life. But soon the grieving couple begin to sense they are not alone in the old house. The Sacchettis'...

Frightfest 2015: ‘We Are Still Here’ Review
Stars: Barbara Crampton, Andrew Sensenig, Lisa Marie, Larry Fessenden, Monte Markham | Written and Directed by Ted Geoghegan

As a kid growing up in the 80s there were only a handful of women who, at least for this young horror fan, could sell a film on their name alone. For T&A terror it was the likes of Brinke Stevens, Michelle Bauer and Linnea Quigley; but for the real stuff, the truly horrorfying movies it was Barbara Crampton. To this day I will watch any film to which her name is attached, he presence in a movie, especially a horror movie, always elevates the production. Which is why We Are Still Here was pretty much a given at this years Frightfest!

But it’s not just the presence of Crampton that attracted me to this particular slice of New England horror.

Back in 2009, Ti West’s The House of the Devil...

Watch Now: ‘Her Name Was Torment II’ teaser trailer
From director Dustin Wayde Mills (Skinless, Easter Casket, Applecart) comes Her Name Was Torment II: Agony, the sequel to last years runaway underground horror hit.

After a successful crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo – of which I was one of the backers – which blew through it’s goal to raise 178% of its intended target, Mills has completed filming of his new Crumpleshack Films feature, with an intended Summer 2015 release date.

Once again starring a wealth of Mills’ regular cohorts: Dave Parker, Haley Madison, Erin R. Ryan, Allison Egan and Brandon Salkil to name a few; Her Name was Torment II used some of that crowdfunding cash to hire special effects wizard Marcus Koch (100 Tears, Sweatshop, The Theatre Bizarre, American Guinea Pig) to add that little extra “something” to the films gore-filled scenes!

Want to see for yourself? Well check out the uncensored, unflinching trailer below. Beware this is certainly Nsfw…...

Incredibly gory and very Nsfw trailer for ‘American Guinea Pig’
Take one infamous series of Japanese gore films; add in YouTube personality and rapper Eigh8t the Chosen One; then mix in direction from Stephen Biro, head of underground horror label Unearthed Films (who officially released DVDs of the Guinea Pig series in the Us); cinematography from one Jim Van Bebber (The Manson Family) and add special effects from Marcus Koch (Sweatshop, 100 Tears) and you have American Guinea Pig: Bouquet of Guts and Gore – the first in an American series of Guinea Pig films that both pay homage to the classic gore franchise and are direct “sequels” to the Japanese originals…

In 1986, an infamous Japanese manga artist and a high level actor in the Us, received packages in the mail. One received a video tape. The other, received a Super 8Mm reel of film, a 16 page letter and several photographs. Both watched them and quickly turned the evidence over to the local authorities.

Texas Frightmakers: Interview with Roxy Vandiver
We're running a bit late, but in honor of Indie Horror Month our March Texas Frightmaker is someone deeply embedded in the indie horror scene, scream queen Roxy Vandiver. In a short time Roxy has established a reputation as one of the next generation of gorgeous screamers in films like Sweatshop, Spirit Camp, and Killer School Girls from Outer Space.

Mr. Dark: Since some of our readers might not be aware of you, who the hell are ya?

Roxy Vandiver: I'm Roxy Vandiver, Best Actress winner at both the City of Death Film Festival and the Splatterfest Film Festival. I've been in about a dozen or so films, and I'm also the life of every party!

MD: A lot of scream queens wind up in that role. You're aiming for it intentionally. Why?

Rv: I wasn't originally aiming for the title of "Scream Queen"; I just happen to live...

Night of the Pumpkin Set to Drop on October 25 ... Gourds Rejoice!
If the candy and the costumes and the fact that it's the only time of the year you can scatter bones in your front yard without having the neighbors alert the authorities aren't enough for you to look forward to Halloween, here's a new reason: Sideshow Pictures is promising to deliver a great short film each year, just in time for the holiday ... and the first one, Night of the Pumpkin, is ready to launch.

From reading the synopsis, the film sounds like some kind of splattery combination of Witchboard and Rubber (yeah…wrap your minds around that one). What we can guarantee is plenty of blood along with a gruesome growing gourd with nothing but bad intentions. Okay, I'm curious.

For those who want to join me in checking out this marauding jack-o-lantern, head over to Fangoria.com on October 25 and get your free viewing of the film. After...

Boggy Creek and Learning to Turn the Tension Dial to 10: A Movie Review
Director: Brian T. Jaynes.

Writer: Bryan T. Jaynes and Jennifer Minar.

There have been many films created about a legendary monster spotted in and around Texarkana. The creature has been called the Fourke Monster, but here the hairy villain will be known more simply as bigfoot or the Sasquatch. There have been at least three other Boggy Creek films beginning in 1972 and this reviewer admits to not seeing any of the previous films (The Legend of Boggy Creek, Return to Boggy Creek). Boggy Creek, starring Texas Battle ("Death Valley"), Melissa Carnell (Humans Versus Zombies), Julin (Sweatshop) and Denise Williamson (Spirit Camp), in a very under the radar release in this series as Hannover House did not promote the September 13th release on DVD at all. The lack of tension in a supposed horror movie explains why there was little fan fare.

Several friends meet up at a lakeside cabin for...

Sweatshop and Expediting the Senseless Killing : A Movie Review
Director: Stacy Davidson.

Writers: Stacy Davidson and Ted Geoghegan.

This reviewer has seen far too many B movies. Right out of the starting gate this critic guessed the film's location, budget and formula within about ten minutes, based on the cast and some other info' on this film. These guesses were all correct. However, writers Stacy Davidson and Ted Geoghegan get very little right in their small budgeted film (less than 15K). There is no backstory to a murdering serial killer and his cave dwelling followers, Swearing is used in place of dialogue, while dancing scenes highlight the film's lack of depth. There is very little in the way of script and the characters are all despicable, for one reason or another. Sweatshop fails on so many film elements. However, some of the effects from Marcus Koch brought the film some horrific class, despite the Sweatshop's many flaws.

Let...

Sweatshop Glow Sticks Never Looked So Painful
Sweatshop a indie horror film from Bloodline Entertainment and Odyssee Pictures will be released to DVD on September 13, 2011. According to the director Stacy Davidson Sweatshop was written as a horror-porno hybrid for Hustler Magazine, but the script was rejected. When he re-wrote the script instead of sex he added a ton more gore. Sweatshop is about a group of friends that break into an abandoned warehouse in order to throw a impromptu rave party; unaware that it is not as empty as they originally thought. Apparently something in the warehouse does not seem to like ravers and carries a huge foundry hammer.

Exclusive Interview: Actor Parrish Randall Vs. Brian S
Parrish Randall is a Texas actor who has a lot of cool stuff going on. He’s part of the team putting together the “Don’t Look in the Basement” remake together and he recently got to work on one of the Chillerama segments that we’ll be seeing this fall. Randall talks about his filming experiences and a few more upcoming projects in the works. Check out my latest Versus with actor and all around cool guy Parrish Randall.

Brian S- First off, how'd you get into acting and filmmaking?

Parrish Randall- I grew up watching the old classics on TV...you know, the Bogie, Jimmy Stewart, John Garfield type of films and was always mesmerized that the medium of film could take the viewer on adventures for two hours that one could never imagine going on. Pretty cool, I thought, even at six years old watching these films.

DVD Review: Sweatshop
Sweatshop

Stars: Ashley Kay, Peyton Wetzel, Brent Himes, Melanie Donihoo | Written by Stacy Davidson, Ted Geoghegan | Directed by Stacy Davidson

Now before I start this review I have to be honest, my review disc of Sweatshop completely stopped working after just under an hour so I have no idea how the film ends and no doubt I’ve missed out on some gory action, but on the plus side, never have I ever been so glad a DVD stopped working!

What I did see was some of the most inept amateur-hour acting I’ve seen in quite some time in a movie that sees a bunch of disposable teens setting up an underground “techno-goth” party in an abandoned warehouse (cliches ahoy!). As the teens attentions drift away from the party-planning they pair off in search of more intimate pursuits (told you it was cliched), but amidst their cries of passion...

Sweatshop (2009) Movie Review
Goth horror “Sweatshop” is about as straightforward as they come, revolving around a gang of hard-partying freaks who fall foul of a brute with a huge hammer in an abandoned warehouse. The film was originally shot back in 2009, apparently over a series of weekends, and was directed by Stacy Davidson (“Domain of the Damned)”, who has a background in visual effects, and so unsurprisingly its main selling point is the gore scenes. The film lands shortly on region 2 DVD through High Fliers. There really isn’t anything else to add about the plot, as “Sweatshop” really is as simple as it sounds, without even bothering to waste time on any kind of back story or on fleshing out its characters. This in itself wouldn’t be a bad thing, as the film clearly isn’t the kind that anyone is going to watch for its cerebral side, though unfortunately it...

Interview with director Frank Sabatella of Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet
Blood Night Blood Night takes elements of all those spooky old ghost stories, behind all those tall tales that you heard and all those outlandish urban legends and mixes into a narrative involving lots and lots and well.... lots of blood and gore, an appealing cast of young kids and a slasher story that helps to make Blood Night one darn entertaining flick. Frank Sabatella is the director behind it all in Blood Night. And the film features two horror film icons in the cast - Danielle Harris (Hatchet II) and Bill Moseley (Babysitter Wanted). Blood Night is an atmospheric, old school styled blend of ghost story and slasher. It's fun, lively and engertic; a film that you should check out. Here's what Frank Sabatella had to say about the making of Blood Night.

Frank Sabatella So who is Frank Sabatella and what are you all about?

I am a horror filmmaker from NY.

Lansdale is having a Christmas With the Dead
You’ve opened all the presents and recovered from all the turkey and/or eggnog you’ve consumed…but Christmas isn’t over, thanks to prolific genre author Joe R. Lansdale (pictured). He’s executive-producing a feature film based on his upcoming tale Christmas With the Dead.

The Christmas screen version, currently in preproduction, will shoot in June in Lansdale’s home town of Nacogdoches, Texas, with the writer and his collaborators employing students and equipment from the Stephen F. Austin University, where he’s a writer-in-residence. “I’m excited about it moving forward and very fortunate to have some fine people at the helm,” Lansdale says. “I’m looking forward to begin filming this summer.”

The synopsis is as follows: “It was a foolish thing to do, and Calvin had not bothered with it the past two years, not since the death of his wife and child. But this year he decided,...

Fell (2010)
Directed by: Marcus Koch

Written by: Katie Walters, Kristian Day, Jeff Dylan Graham

Cast: Jeff Dylan Graham, Katie Walters, Kristian Day

Every so often, a role comes along that is so juicy and dynamic that an actor truly gets to sink his teeth in to the hilt and give it a good shake; these roles allow the actor to show a range of emotion and progress his character throughout the length of the film in ways that most scripts simply fail at enabling.

Enter Fell, the newest feature-length offering from Marcus Koch. Best known for his special effects work in films like Walking Distance and Sweatshop, Koch also directed the cult favorite 100 Tears and Rot, showing a wide range of ability in his warped mind. Fell is very different than anything we've seen from Koch before, and for good reason; during the Q&A at Bloodbath Film Festival in Texas,...

Grimmupnorth 2010 lineup announced!
Grimmupnorth 2010 is coming to Manchester for a second time this Halloween! Readers may remember last year’s coverage from the first Grimmfest last October ‘09. Well, we’re going back for more this year too. Festival director Simeon Halligan and his crew have spent all year finding some amazing new titles to screen at Manchester’s biggest horror film festival, including Evil: In The Time Of Heroes, which I missed at Eiff so am well up for seeing. There’s also the inventively named Canadian shocker, Dead Hooker In A Trunk, the Japanese genre mash-up Alien Vs Ninja, Thai thriller Slice, Zombie mock-u-mentary Reel Zombies and a horror doc featuring all kinds of industry insiders, The Splat Pack. There’s also a ton of activities and seminars for festival goers to participate in too. Personally I’m looking forward to the special screening for my favourite Argento film, Deep Red.

International Artwork and Trailer Debut for Sweatshop
One film we've been hearing about for quite a while now is Texas-based filmmaker Stacy Davidson's Sweatshop, and in advance of its two market screenings at Cannes 2010's Le Marché du Film, the producers have released an online international trailer and some striking foreign sales art that accentuates the film's darker aspects.

Said producers are Bloodline Entertainment and Odyssee Pictures, in association with Starving Kappa Pictures and Upstart Filmworks, and the flick is represented internationally by New York-based Screen Media Ventures LLC.

Sweatshop (review here) was written by Davidson and Ted Geoghegan. The Houston-lensed film stars Ashley Kay, Peyton Wetzel, Julin, and Danielle Jones. The picture pits a group of unsuspecting ravers against an unstoppable monster wielding an over-sized foundry hammer.
