He played the Screwdriver Zombie in George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead, composed the marvelous music for Creepshow and Day of the Dead, directed Tales from the Darkside: The Movie as well as eight episodes of the TV series (including an episode written by Stephen King), helmed 2009's Book of Blood film based on Clive Barker's short stories, and directed the 2000 Dune miniseries before going on to executive produce the latest two films based on Frank Herbert's seminal sci-fi book series. Suffice it to say that John Harrison has had an impressive and eclectic career in the realms of film and television, collaborating with legendary creators while adding his own unique vision to horror and sci-fi projects that have thrilled, chilled, and inspired viewers for decades.

Horror films have never been held to a specific "one size fits all" approach when it comes to the types of scary narratives they wish to show their audiences. One format that is often used in all genres of fiction -- but most notably in horror movies and television shows -- is the anthology format. This is a collection of short story segments compiled together into one final product. A classic example like Creepshow or a more modern version of a horror anthology movie like V/H/S are effective in combining creepy tales and connecting them in a compelling manner.
Creepshow and V/H/S are just two examples of the many horror anthology movies that are out there for horror fans to enjoy. What makes an awesome anthology horror experience is the consistency of all the segments, as well as a terrifying throughline connecting them all together for a cohesive story,...

Remakes are nothing new in Hollywood, and horror movie remakes have long been a thriving part of the industry. Directors will turn their creepy, viral short films into larger studio features, like David F. Sandberg did with Lights Out, and surprise foreign genre hits will sometimes get a makeover for U.S. audiences with the original director at the helm. But you’d be hard pressed to find a modern American director who’s interested in remaking their own feature film.
Enter Clive Barker protégé Anthony Diblasi, who was certainly up for the challenge when he was approached by new genre studio Welcome Villain with the possibility of remaking his 2014 low-budget gem, Last Shift. The director believes he’s the first American director to take on such a feat since Leo McCarey remade Love Affair into An Affair to Remember in 1957.

The arrival of Clive Barker’s Books of Blood in 1984 and 1985 was an earthshaking event in horror literature. No less an authority than Stephen King called Barker “the future of horror,” leading to a tsunami of acclaim for the six volumes of collected short stories. Barker’s vast imagination, his creation of new monsters that eclipsed standard fare like vampires and witches, and his visceral, blood-soaked prose were a jolt for the horror genre that probably influenced a generation of writers and filmmakers.
Speaking of the latter, a number of stories from the books were adapted for the screen, including the title tale itself (which acted as a framing device for all the stories), “The Midnight Meat Train,” “Dread,” and “The Forbidden,” the latter of which formed the basis of the soon-to-be-rebooted Candyman franchise. Barker himself directed Lord of Illusions, based on the Books of Blood story “The Last Illusion.

October is here, which means it’s the time of the season for getting scared. With Halloween gradually becoming a month-long celebration over the past few years — even if the coronavirus has put a damper on many activities such as trick-or-treating — one thing we can always look forward to during these 31 days is a deluge of horror movies old and new, whether via streaming, cable network marathons or even fleeting theatrical releases.
Horror is already a reliable genre both at the box office (under normal circumstances) and in the digital space, so it’s no surprise that even in these compromised times, scary movies are coming at us hard and fast in October. Below is a round-up of fresh horror releases arriving either at your local multiplex (and we urge you to keep the risks of going to the theater in mind) or right in your living room. Ironically, even in decidedly unnerving times,...

Clive Barker’s series of short stories gathered in the Books of Blood collections have served as inspirations for several movies: The Midnight Meat Train, Rawhead Rex, Quicksilver Highway, Lord of Illusions, Dread, and, the best of the bunch, Candyman. There was also another movie called Book of Blood released in 2018. Now Hulu is getting in on the action with their own Books of Blood […]

Clive Barker has just submitted the latest draft of the new Hellraiser screenplay. And he's revealed one or two things about it...
Rebooting of horror franchises is rarely, for good reason, something welcomed with particularly open arms. However, one thing going for the planed new take on Hellraiser is that its original creator, Clive Barker, is involved. In fact, he's more than involved: Barker is penning the screenplay for the film, and he's now submitted a second draft of his script to The Weinstein Company.
Chatting to Entertainment Weekly, Barker revealed more of the new Hellraiser. "I think the phrase is ‘reboot'", he said, "although I’ve never really understood what that meant".
"I wanted to make sure we sounded some fresh notes. The movie actually begins on Devil’s Island. I wanted to fold into the Hellraiser narrative something about the guy - the Frenchman Lemarchand - who made the mysterious box,...

"I will not be intimidated." Liberty has debuted two new trailers for the indie WWII drama Walking with the Enemy, directed by Mark Schmidt, starring an international cast including Sir Ben Kingsley looking like a fine chap, all right, plus Jonas Armstrong (Book of Blood, Edge of Tomorrow), Hannah Tointon (The Children, The Body, The Lost Future), Burn Gorman (Pacific Rim, The Dark Knight Rises), Mark Wells and William Hope (Captain America, Dark Shadows). The film is set mostly in Hungary, and looks surprisingly powerful and epic, despite the indie feeling to it. Two new trailers join the original trailer a few months ago. This looks like it might be worth seeing, but it doesn't have many good reviews yet. Take a look. A few years back we posted a list of some of our favorite Irish actors for St. Patrick’s Day, and it contained pretty much who you’d expect – Liam, Pierce, Colin F., Cillian, Daniel D.L. , Jonathan R.M., an Aidan (Quinn), but enough time has has passed that we have a whole new bumper crop to celebrate. Including another Aidan!
Here are ten more actors we can share our Shamrock Shakes with, and can smile those Irish eyes at us anytime.
Jamie Dornan
31-year-old Jamie grew up in the suburbs of Belfast, Northern Ireland, and is the second cousin (twice removed) of Greer Garson. Along with a very successful modeling career, he’s flourishing on the big and small screen, with roles on Once Upon A Time, The Fall and he’s currently filming one of the most hotly anticipated spectacles of next year, Fifty Shades Of Grey.

Yesterday, Clive Barker ("Lord of Illusions"), surprised horror fans by announcing on his official Facebook page that he will be writing the screenplay for a new Hellraiser film. It revealed that it will be a remake of the original 1987 film, which is based on novella The Hellbound Heart. I'm assuming The Weinstein Company (producers) are hoping for the same type of success that the Evil Dead franchise experienced will rub off on Hellraiser. A franchise that has been in decline for many, many years. The last five Hellraiser films have straight-to-dvd. As for Barker, he hasn't written a screenplay since 2008's Book of Blood, and before that it was 1995's Lord of Illusions. He also hasn't involved with Hellraiser since 1996's Hellraiser IV: Bloodline. Which was the fourth film in the franchise, and sadly the last of the nine films in the series to be released in theaters. Hot From Hell!

If you're curious as to what exactly 'Paymon' is, all you need know is it's the latest film project from filmmaker Anthony Diblasi, which means it's one to look out for. Diblasi served as producer on several Clive Barker projects such as 'Midnight Meat Train' and 'Book Of Blood,' then made his directorial debut with 'Dread,' one of the few great adaptations of Barker's works from his infamous Books Of Blood series. His 2nd feature 'Cassadaga' is due out later this year, as is 'Missionary,' but that hasn't stopped him from tackling his fourth full length feature 'Paymon,' a Charles Manson-inspired horror flick which is currently shooting.
In 'Paymon,' officer Jessica Loren has the last shift at a transitioning police station, assigned to wait for a hazmat crew who’s coming to pick up bio-hazard waste from the armory.

How seriously do you think I take Halloween? Well, I’m fairly frickin’ anal retentive anyway, so I need to book my viewing in advance. Three years ago on St. Patrick's Day we presented ten Irish men we'd love to share a shamrock shake with, and the list (Colin Farrell, Pierce Brosnan, Bono, Jonathan Rhys Myers, Stuart Townsend, Liam Neeson, Aidan Quinn, Cillian Murphy, Daniel-Day Lewis, and Ronan Keating) turned out to be a "Greatest Hits" of irish hotness.
We thought it was time for an update, so we're giving you ten more Irish guys we'd love to go brogue with! Okay, that was terrible, but don't let that stop you from perusing these pots o' gold!
Mark Feehily
On our first list we featured hot Irish boybander Ronan Keating, which was a difficult decision considering there are approximately 1,753 hot Irish boybanders.
For instance, Westlife singer Mark Feehily, who's not only hot and Irish, but openly gay, and engaged to Kevin McDaid, who is also hot, a former boybander, but strangely ... not Irish.

I have not read the Book of Blood books by Clive Barker. So I came to this movie with no knowledge of the evidently faithful reproduction of bringing the bookend short stories to screen. And I wasn't impressed. After an encounter between the remorseless killer named Wyburd (Clive Russell) and desperate Simon McNeal (Jonas Armstrong) ends with one of them about to be skinned, McNeal begins rambling on about how he became such a scarred mess. Wyburd, and the audience, is fortunately patient enough to listen to him ramble on about ghosts, and crossroads, and other dimensions,...

There's just Nothing like a good old fashioned Clive Barker penned tale of the macabre and terror. The author/filmmaker/artist has been terrifying his fans for decades, and through those years we've seen several film adaptations that have met with varying degrees of success. Sit back, kids! There's another one coming.
The next horror yarn being worked up to head to the big screen will be Barker's Resurrection Man. Writers John Heffernan and Jorge Saralegui are currently penning the screenplay for the film, which is being described as an action thriller. No other details were available at press time.
Saralegui is no stranger to Barker's work as he has produced a few other Barker adaptations including Dread, The Plague, Midnight Meat Train, and Book of Blood.
Look for more on Resurrection Man soon.

Writers Jeff Heffernan and Jorge Saralegui are presently seeking a home for Resurrection Man . The script is described as an action-thriller based on an idea by Clive Barker. Saralegui produced the previous Barker outings The Plague , Midnight Meat Train , Dread and Book of Blood . He was also developing an adaptation of Barker's short story "The Madonna." Adi Hasak and Gasmer will produce Resurrection Man if that project comes to fruition.

There are easier tasks than adapting Clive Barker's writing to the big screen. Many have tried, many have failed. And even the films that turned out okay never really managed to capture his twisted visions of horror. And so it came as quite a surprise that Teo succeeded with relative easy in doing exactly that. But most peculiar of all, Clive Barker wasn't in any way involved with this project.
Only five minutes into the film my girlfriend and I were absolutely certain this was an adaptation of Barker's work. Everything here just oozes his style. From the dark netherworld, the malformed mutants and the fetish-inspired environments to the twisted interludes, this is what a Barker book feels like when reading. Imagine our surprise when it turns out this is in fact the work of Teo (who, it must be said, royally admits to the influences of Clive Barker...

Now in it's fourth year, Horrorfest, the annual cinematic showcase for After Dark Films, has established something of a reputation as a platform for fresh, daring filmmakers to get themselves noticed. More than just a simple market for nasties, the After Dark label stands for quality by way of authenticity, delivering horror films by genre lovers for genre lovers. In addition to this yearly frightfest, After Dark recently announced a new venture to develop their own projects, in partnership with SyFy, NBC, and Lionsgate, titled After Dark Originals. Aiming to do for horror what the Sundance Institute did for the American indie, the eight slate series will begin production next month with a view towards theatrical release later this fall.
Titles featured in this year's Horrorfest include:
The Reeds
Starring: Anna Brewster, O-t Fagbenle, Will Mellor, Danny Caltagirone, Scarlett Johnson, Emma Catherwood, Geoff Bell

In his time off from the ongoing Twilight series, Jackson Rathbone decided to dive right into a film about the nature of fear itself: Dread, based on the Book of Blood short story by horror-fantasy author Clive Barker. In the film, adapted and directed by Anthoni Diblasi, Rathbone plays Stephen, a mild-mannered film student who gets caught up in a classmate's study of fear -- a project that takes an unexpectedly dark and disturbing turn. FEARnet spoke with Rathbone by phone as he was preparing to play New Orleans with his band, 100 Monkeys, with whom he'll be touring right up to the start of his promo duties for June's The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. As a long-time Clive Baker fan, I’ve been anxiously awaiting for Anthony Diblasi’s upcoming horror outing “Dread” to make an appearance in my neck of the woods. However, recent adaptations of Barker’s work have been somewhat of a challenge; “Midnight Meat Train,” while enjoyable, seemed somewhat empty, as did John Harrison’s lackluster “Book of Blood.” In other words, my expectations have been adjusted to reflect the latest cinematic interpretations of Barker’s twisted imagination. That being said, the trailer for “Dread” looks promising. Am I drooling with anticipation? Not yet, but I expect it to start momentarily. I’ll spare you the juicy details. Here’s the synopsis: Stephen and Cheryl are college students making a documentary about what people dread in life. But they have no idea that their partner Quaid, witnessed his parents being murdered by an axe-wielding lunatic and wants to make others experience his own personal horror.

It’s one of the more complicated scenes to capture in the new Clive Barker film Dread. Actors Jackson (Twilight) Rathbone and Hanne Steen must play slightly drunk while getting hot and heavy during a romantic date in the countryside. At one point, they climb onto the hood of their car and release back into the wild a once-injured crow Rathbone’s character has rescued. Except the crow isn’t playing ball.
Director of photography Sam McCurdy (of the Descent duo) is perched on a crane, ready to move upward with the bird as it hopefully flies toward the camera. The crow wrangler has assured everyone this will happen. But it persistently doesn’t, and continually resetting the shot is getting very time-consuming and patience-testing—especially as writer/director Anthony Diblasi only has 28 days to shoot this adaptation of Barker’s acclaimed Books Of Blood short story during a cold November.

The story centers on a paranormal expert who, while investigating a gruesome slaying, finds a house that is at the intersection of "highways" transporting souls to the afterlife. Based on the terrifying story penned by Clive Barker in the "Books of Blood" collection, a psychic researcher, Mary Florescu, employs Medium Simon McNeal to investigate a haunted house. McNeal, at first, begins to fake his visions, but then real ghosts present themselves. They attack him and carve words in his flesh, and these wordsform the rest of the stories, stories written on a literal, living Book of Blood. Earlier this year, Fango exposed readers to a short film winning much acclaim in the UK titled The Soldier (you can read about it here). At the time, it was hinted that the movie might spawn a full-length feature, and Fango got word from director Shaun Robert Smith that The 4th Reich is moving ahead, shooting next spring with some pretty big names and exciting prospects.
“This is going to be the mother of all zombie films,” Smith tells Fango; he also passed on the production art seen here. “Not just that, but a heavy historical aspect too; you could say we are working on a war film with zombies. And to add to the joyride, it’ll be in 3-D! In fact, we will be one of the first 3-D films to emerge from the UK ever.”
