Emilia Perez is the story of said titular character, played by Karla Sofia Gascon, who wants to escape a world of crime and live out her life as a trans woman. To do this, she seeks the help of lawyer Rita Mora Castro (Avatar and MCU star Zoe Saldana) in this musical crime drama that was nominated for thirteen Oscars.
Unfortunately, the film has been controversial. It began with director Jacques Audiard getting accused of a lack of cultural authenticity, in part because he’d cast one actor who didn't actually speak native Spanish. GLAAD also called the film a poor story that doesn’t authentically portray trans identity. One of the movie's stars also been accused of racism, Islamophobia, and homophobia after getting an Oscar nomination after allegedly posting problematic tweets on social media years prior. It's all a "bummer" for Netflix, but it wouldn't stop the company from...

Why do we like Gerard Butler? As of the publishing of this piece, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera is performing as expected, looking to become yet another reliable, mid-budgeted programmer hit for the movie star. It’ll round out nicely in theaters, then do well with VOD and home sales. This kind of success is exceedingly rare these days; even Liam Neeson actioners underperform after years of semi-reliability. Her first major role came in the 1993 low-budget sci-fi film Cyborg 2, but she continued gaining roles even after that flop. Every year, Jolie seemed to get a touch more skillful and competent until she was nominated at some of the biggest awards ceremonies toward the end of the decade. The '90s...
