So what's in a name? A lot it seems if said moniker of choice happens to be Zombie. Two filmmakers. One title. Whoever wins, we're sure both will pale in comparison to Lucio Fulci's Zombie. Read on for the details of this little name game.
According to the Hindustan Times, Rock On!! actor Luke Kenny’s directorial venture, titled Zombie, has run into trouble since another production company claims that they have already registered the same title. Producer Siddhartha Jain of iRock Media, who is producing director Navdeep Singh’s Rock the Shaadi, another zombie flick, insists he won’t allow Kenny’s film to release without his permission.
“I was surprised to learn that Luke Kenny was making a film called Zombie. I own the title so I don’t know how he could have picked it up,” says Siddhartha, who had co-produced Ragini Mms (2011) earlier. “Only if...

A cool trailer has dropped that appears to be set in the same woods that corrupted the unsuspecting characters in The Evil Dead. Okay, maybe not the exact same woods, but the upcoming film Hostage has a guy in a cabin struggling for survival against a malevolent spirit. Off to a good start, I say!
Created by screenwriter/director Michael J. Yurinko (Fading), Hostage is currently filming in the Poconos, Pa with a release scheduled for later this year. It's the story of a man battling his personal demons while snowbound inside his home. Kinda like The Shining, but on a smaller scale. Holt Boggs (The Prodigy) stars with George Katt (Valley of Angels). Additional filming will occur in Scranton and Bangor, Pa as well as Los Angeles, CA.
Producer Robert Gordon Spencer (Romero’s Deadtime Stories Vol. 1) said, "Explorative and dynamic have been the two concepts or requirements I...

California-based Bat Pig Pictures has sent us the trailer and details for its latest project, Hostage.
The horror film is currently in production in the Poconos, Pennsylvania. The poster is included above and the trailer can be viewed below.
Producer and actor Robert Gordon Spencer (Deadtime Stories) challenged screenwriter and director Michael J. Yurinko (Fading), a Pennsylvania resident, to create a horror screenplay that was "sharp, unique and budget-minded."
The result was Hostage, a story about a man dealing with his personal demons while snowbound inside his home. Inspired by real-life reports of paranormal events, the film stars actor Holt Boggs (pictured below), best known for his leading role in action-suspense film The Prodigy.
The cast also includes actor George Katt (right), winner of 2008's Best Breakthrough Actor for his performance in the independent feature Valley of Angels opposite Danny Trejo at the New York International Independent Film Festival. Katt...

Producer: Robert Gordon Spencer.
Director/writer: Mike Yurinko.
Cast: Holt Boggs (left).
Actor turned producer Robert Gordon Spencer (Deadtime Stories, "Law & Order") is testing his chops in the making of Hostage, a thriller about a man, Eugene (Holt Boggs, "The Prodigy"), trapped in his vacation cabin. He's snowbound and the winter landscape hints at more than just him going up against Mother Nature. He soon discovers that he is not alone.
The mystery on what that terror is will be the draw. Spencer believes this movie will not be a typical horror genre film. "We have our twists," teases Spencer, "The script depends on the shock, thrill and drama of the reason on why Eugene is trapped."
Shooting is slated to start December so accurate outdoorsy set pieces are used. With another name like Michael J. Yurinko (Fading) to direct and write this independent film, Hostage will depend on more...

Oh dear, where do I begin? George A. Romero is something of an idol of mine. I’ve always been mesmerized with his early zombie movies (you know the ones I mean), so my ears picked up immediately when I found out I’d be reviewing this new DVD release. Suspecting an Internet slating, I purposely remained ignorant of the general online consensus until after my first viewing in the name of impartiality (and my own attempts to preserve the nugget of hope I had that it’d be good). After all Romero’s involved and the man has earned the benefit of the doubt in my eyes. The proof is in the pudding as they say.
Deadtime Stories is an anthology of horror episodes, much in the vein of Romero’s own Creepshow (1982). Romero himself introduces each story in turn as well as providing a general thread through which the stories are joined together.

Released on DVD in the UK next week, October 3rd to be precise, George A. Romero’s Deadtime Stories: Volume 1 sees the iconic director turn his hand to the anthology, the genre he helped revive in the 80s with Creepshow, presenting three stories of the terrifying and the disquieting. The first volume includes the stories:
Valley of the Shadow - A woman searches for her missing husband in the jungles of South America, but soon the hunters become the hunted. Wet - A lonely potter finds a valuable jade box buried on the beach and the creature inside wants to keep him company… House Call - In poor, lonely, farm country, a woman calls an elderly doctor out on a dark and stormy night to make a house call on her strangely ailing son. What he finds when he gets there isn’t listed in any medical books…
Thanks...

Director: Jeff Monahan and Matt Walsh.
Writers: Jeff Monahan.
Narrator: George A. Romero.
George A. Romero again narrates the Deadtime Stories film series in Deadtime Stories 2. Here you have three macabre tales of cannibalism, guilt and, hurrah, zombies. Having not seen the first series, this reviewer will not be able to compare the two anthologies. However, as a stand alone series of tales, Deadtime Stories 2 is a mostly fun ride that is somewhat hampered by a slow start. Overall "The Gorge," "On Sabbath Hill," and "Dust" provide that "Outer Limits" (1995) feel where stories emphasize audience impact rather than characterizations and deep plots.
"The Gorge," takes viewers to a cave exploration trip, which goes terribly wrong. Three climbers are trapped in a pocket of air for an unbelievable twenty-seven days, plus. About the only passage of time that you will see is the reduction of candles to little wicks.

Details are emerging for the release of Deadtime Stories 2. This is the second horror anthology to be narrated by the Master of Horror himself, George A. Romero. This time around, Romero has three tales of the macabre which range from fatal cave climbing to haunting students and even to a disease causing space dust. Each short is about thirty minutes long, with a cumulative runtime of 141 mins'. The titles of the shorts are: "The Gorge," "On Sabbath Hill," and "Dust." Enjoy the trailer for Deadtime Stories 2, as Romero tells viewers to "be very afraid!"

Volume 1 went pretty much unnoticed and you can see why after watching it. Here is hoping that volume 2 raises the bar. It seems one of the increasing horror trends of late is the horror anthology. An often hit or miss fad, the horror anthology can either be a well thought out and executed 75 minutes (Black Sabbath) or the most boring and pointless 75 minutes of your life. This brings me to Deadtime Stories, which I’m sad to say is volume 1. I shudder to think of a Volume 2 rearing its face in the near future.
Don’t let the fact that George A Romero produced this sway you into thinking it’s secretly good. In fact I hope and pray to the Baby Jesus that George A. Romero didn’t really know or understand what was going on. Thankfully, there is good evidence suggesting that as all of Romero’s intros to...

The Film:
Despite the cliched title, a George A. Romero-produced, sponsored, or whatever anthology film should have gave horror fans some much-needed goosebumps, yet I doubt many horror fans have even heard of this collection, prior to clicking on my review. That’s just part of George A. Romero presents Deadtime Stories, Volume 1‘s issues. Most of what was originally made for Volume 1 doesn’t appear, as planned back in 2009, yet that little trivia matters not. The three shorts here, have little bite, sorely aping the good zombie man’s name for nothing more than marketability.
Acting like any other anthology film, we get our host who introduces us to the upcoming segment, followed by a few quips at the end, and our host here is obviously George A. Romero. He looks like he’s having fun, something that doesn’t translate into the shorts or the audience. Valley...

George A. Romero Presents Deadtime Stories Volume 1 Directed By: Jeff Monahan, Michael Fischa and Tom Savini Written By: Jeff Monahan Starring: Jeff Monahan, Nick Mancuso, Bingo O'Malley, Maryann Nagel, Amy Marsalis and George A. Romero I’ve been so starved for any little morsel of horror I can get my hands on this summer that I jumped at the chance to review this new offering from horror maestro George A. Romero. What a waste. My husband (who will watch anything) pronounced that it was crap within five minutes and left the room in a huff. I stuck around for the entire stink-fest. This “anthology” is comprised of three short films, interspersed with Romero sitting in a chair, cracking corny little intros that make the Crypt Keeper look like a master of prose. It’s a pity to see such a legend (Night of the Living Dead) reduced to this embarrassing...

Damnation Alley - is one of the most sought after post-apocalyptic cult relics of the 70's that, believe it or not, is only now making it's way onto DVD and Blu-ray in an official release. So basically, it's a red letter day for Pa junkies and I'm off to pick this bad boy up as soon as I post this. It's also based on a book from 1967 by Roger Zelazny (who hated this film).
Insidious - is the best film from James Wan since the original Saw and one hell of a haunting flick. I loved this film far more than the glut haunted house films we've been getting recently like Haunting in Connecticut. Perhaps it had something to do with Rose Byrne being in the film? Whatever it was, this was a great flick that's made better by the subtleties and unanswered oddities in it - like what relevance...

Our own Jason Bene was quoted on a TV Spot for this film, directed by James Wan, and it was simply stated: “The scariest horror film since Poltergeist.” This is truly Wan’s breakout film. It is scary as hell, something that’s incredibly rare nowadays, but it also features a superb sound design and score that aids the scares. Please, watch this with the lights off. Tom Savini's Housecall is by far the best of the three short films in George A. Romero Presents Deadtime Stories Volume 1, due for release on Region 1 DVD on Tuesday, July 12. It's stylish and cool, with a nicely foreboding tone, and a fresh approach to its subject matter, all qualities that are sadly missing from the first two shorts on the disc. I'm kindly disposed toward anything George A. Romero does, mainly because Dawn of the Dead frightened me like few other movies ever have. The man deserves respect for his accomplishments in the horror field, even if his recent input hasn't lived up to what he did in the past. Creepshow, one of his more mainstream efforts, with a black comic...

It's actually sort of insulting to sit through the pitiful experience that is George Romero's Deadtime Stories Volume 1, and here's why: it's a scam. Here we have three truly terrible short stories that are "introduced" by a video image of zombie lord George Romero. There are some who dismiss the man's most recent efforts, Diary of the Dead and Survival of the Dead, as warmed-up leftovers from the his best films (I happen to dig 'em both), but it'd be hard to dismiss those recent Dead flicks as "trash." Deadtime Stories Volume 1, which has been sitting on a shelf for the better part of three years, is, it pains me to say, pure trash. It's as if a producer had three homemade...

All together they form the Deadtime Stories, with each story written by Jeff Monahan (The Screening). That big evil entity, that sworn enemy for life of the horror genre known as the MPAA just handed back their verdict as to what ratings a wide variety of horror films have received. We have stuff in the vein of The Blair Witch Project in the form of "Evil Things". We have another horror film from the recently revamped Hammer Films entitled Wake Wood. We have yet another horror film featuring funnyman Jason Mewes in "The Waterman". And we have zombie expert George A. Romero taking another stab at the anthology format.
Evil Things is rated R for language.
The Watermen is rated R for strong bloody violence including rape, gruesome images, nudity, language and brief drug use.
Wake Wood is Rated R for bloody violence including disturbing images, and brief sexuality.
George Romero's Deadtime Stories is rated R for bloody horror violence and some nudity.
