This project was originally planned to be produced as an anime television series of 26 episodes, but for logistical reasons and in order to allow various directors to work on parallel projects at the same time, it was changed to a seven film project.
Touko says that Shiki had lost her arm during the Asagami Fujino's case happened a month ago. This case is the plot from Gekijô ban Kara no kyôkai: Dai san shô - Tsukakû zanryû (2008) in July 1998, this film's story occurs in September.
Kara no Kyoukai is often referred to as the spiritual prototype to Type-Moon's first release, Tsukihime. Aside from significantly notable similarities such as the protagonist's names are both Shiki (Male in Tsukihime, Female in Kara no Kyoukai). Mikiya Kokutou's character design and personality was used as the basis for Tsukihime's protagonist Shiki Tohno. Ken'ichi Suzumura does the voices for both Shiki Tohno in the Tsukihime anime and Mikiya Kokutou in the Kara no Kyoukai films.
Although the films appear to be placed in an ancient time (1990s), The original Kara No Kyoukai novels were published during the nineties. Were contemporary to the time they were released.
Mikiya indicates that strawberries belong to the rose family. The scientific classification of the strawberry is: Kingdom: Plantae, Division: Magnoliophyta, Class: Magnoliopsida, Order: Rosales, Family: Rosaceae and Genus: Fragaria. And the scientific classification of the rose is: Kingdom: Plantae, Division: Magnoliophyta ,Class: Magnoliopsida, Order: Rosales Family: Rosaceae, Subfamily: Rosoideae and Genus: Rosa. The fragaria is a genus of flowering plants in the rose family, Rosaceae, commonly known as strawberries for their edible fruits.
