A touching father-daughter anime

The art design is out of this world. The depictions of the other creatures, the fantasy world, the coloring... This anime nails the theme and aesthetic ans tops it off with an interesting story and a cute kid. This anime sets a tone of a lighthearted travel with deeper undertones of time limitations and suspense as to her identity as a human and even emotional sections. This anime does it all- now go watch it!

Simple but not, a beautifully crafted anime.

My personal favorite anime of the season. Something about this just makes me feel some type of way when I watch every week. The colors are stunningly beautiful, the voice acting is perfect, and the cutest anime child of all time must go to Somali. Not everyone's speed I suppose, but it's absolutely mine.

Lovely fantasy

Not mind blowing, but still a nicely done anime, too naive in my opinion and not enough action.

A Feel-Good Show

Somali and the forest spirits is about an adolescent child named Somali who wanders the world with her parent figure, a forest Druid. They goal is to return Somali to the remaining human population that is on the brink of extermination by the monsters in this demon infested realm.

First off the premise of this anime is quite misleading, because despite humans being cannibalised by these monsters. Somali and her parent figure travel from place to place relatively easy meeting multiple amiable creatures. Leaving us wondering how and why were they so violent with humans in the first place. A darker tone and a more unnerving style would have made this anime a masterpiece, but I guess that sort of vision is lacking. Everything about the plot is painted in a colourful, picturesque manner even when the case need not be....

This visuals of this anime are absolutely wonderful and stunning and the world building is spectacular.

In terms of character building and development their personalities are very one dimensional and most of the episodes repeat the very same themes. This makes the plot very boring and predictable.

But due to the class of the production involved in making this feel good anime. It's worth a watch, just not the unsettling, nail biting, griping anime I expected from reading its premise.

Somali and the Forest Spirit

This anime series opens with a Golem, whose duty is to protect the forest, discovers a human girl, named Somali. He then sets about getting her to other humans. This won't be easy as humanity is almost extinct in this world and other creatures see them as a delicious treat! As the series progresses they travel though countryside and cities; meeting various characters. Some of these are friendly and travel with them for a while and others present a threat; not always an obvious one.

I really enjoyed this series. The central characters were really good and nicely juxtaposed... a caring but emotionless golem and the innocent and lively young Somali. The more we learn about the characters the more interesting they become. The other characters are good too. The settings are beautifully designed making the world believable even when it is at its most fantastical. There is a sense of danger but it is never too extreme so younger viewers can probably enjoy it too. Overall I'd definitely recommend this charming little series.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

The sweetest thing

This is the first anime to manage to make me cry so much in only one season while still making me feel warm inside. A good 7/12 episodes made me tear up, or more (generally more). I absolutely need another season of this lovingly heartwarming story. Anyone that rates this below an 8 is probably heartless or missed the major point of discovering one's heart (harsh, but I'm sure many would agree). This is one of very few shows that honestly deserves an 11 rating, along with a recommendation of it to family and friends.

Sweet and deeply heartfelt

This anime is slower paced but it tells a lovely story. It also addresses issues such as war genocide, and trafficking, so the the story does have some dark undertones. But despite that it is ultimately hopeful.

A Wonderful Moving Anime

People call it a touching father-daughter anime, but to me its much more than this. Its about what makes a family, even when you are not blood related.

I am so bereft that this didn't get additional seasons. The art design is out of this world. The depictions of the other creatures, the fantasy world, the colouring This anime nails the theme and aesthetic and tops it off with an interesting story and a cute kid(normally the kids, especially the girls in anime can be annoying - but not in this case - she was spot on). This anime sets a tone of a light-hearted travel with deeper undertones of time limitations and suspense as to Somali's identity as a human and even emotional sections. This anime does it all- now go watch it!

By far the best anime I've ever seen

I absolutely love everything about this anime. It looks gorgeous, the english dub is outstanding, and god damn the writing is perfect!

Occasionally the world has a grim tone, and brings up some heavy stuff, but with a touch of reality, and it never loses it's wholesomeness.

It's not action packed, so one could say the story is slowly advancing, but it's actually not true. It must take a slower pace, because it mainly focuses on emotions and relations between the characters, and that takes time to flush out in a way that makes sense. I feel like every episode adds something important.

The story and the world is mature, and not the boring, gruesomely evil way most anime tends to lean towards, but the emotionally heavy and lovely way that will make you cry your eyes out.

The characters (even the side characters) are interesting and I can't praise the conversations enough. Words and actions carry weight. It was phenomenal just listening these characters interact. And I didn't even start on the character development! Couse that's what this story is about and where it excels.

One of my favourite things is the fact, that it doesn't features a villain. There are indeed a very few not-nice or let's say evil characters, but they are insignificant. And guess what? The show doesn't need it. It's still able to create conflict. Conflict between clans, individuals, and most importantly, the conflict with the natural order (expiring lifetime).

The most important thing for last. Somali is so freaking adorable! Cuteness overdose is a serious danger while watching this.

It deserves 12/10 points from me. Hits all the right spots.

Yay ain't isekai

Right now been reading the Wes Graig Kaya, venture brother n older sister traveling n surviving facing many threats, if doesn't interest than The Sacrificer by Rick Remender also awesome fantasy comics, for younger adults, Somali n the Forest Spirit is gem hidden that in time will fade away review: What like fantasy is taking another journey than copying anything that come out from dungeons n dragons.

The story is simple so re characters, a journey of stoic/machine being taken care of small cheerful 8year old, to find a town of humans.

While he's time round out.

Like the world building they go, from forest to canyon towns, to volcano city.

Remind me of Kiko Journey or Came from the Abyss showing the difference environments or cities.

The episodes do touch topics from prestigious but something that some forgot xenophobia the human liven with animals people calling em grotesque yeah something mentions in The Sacrificers.

The episode was awesome was the sick human going in carriage with daughter harpy needed of Somali blood to cure him.

Were most interested cause of human n grotesque.

The underground city of witch was pretty colorful n sad cause the story of fear been other race or different.

Downside is the ending felt sad but could work more seasons? Sadly not even the Abyss hasn't had fateful ending.

So conclude first time hear of this gem, sad that is gonna be mention once's, cause been overflowing of different genres of isekai.

Fantasy like this really hard recommend or find.
