Hollywood has fallen in love with two things in recent years: remakes and adaptations.
Television is flush with remakes of beloved classics. From sitcoms to dramas, a slew of programs are currently airing, with some getting a 21st-century reimaging that audiences have connected with.
There are also plenty of adaptations out there, beloved books that have spawned award-winning television fare, think Game of Thrones, and quirky romantic dramas with passionate fanbases like Virgin River.
Horror shows, in general, are hard to come by on television, though Disney+ has seen much success with its Goosebumps series, which was recently renewed for a second season.
Based on the Goosebumps series by R.L. Stine, the supernatural horror series brought in longtime readers of the popular books and new viewers experiencing the lore for the first time.
Perhaps the most well-known and popular adaptation of all time, The Walking Dead, still reigns supreme some fourteen years after its premiere,...

Netflix just doubled down on both horror content and creator Mike Flanagan. The Haunting of Hill House creator will be adapting another scary novel, Christopher Pike’s The Midnight Club, for the streamer, according to Variety.
The Midnight Club was published in 1994 and follows five terminally-ill teenagers living at the same hospice home. To keep entertained, the group gathers at midnight to tell scary stories. One night, they make a deal with one another: the first of them to die will try to contact the others from beyond the grave. In addition to adapting The Midnight Club, Variety reports the series will also incorporate other Pike works.
Flanagan tweeted: “Oh, and for you fellow Pike fans out there… the article is correct, we will be incorporating a lot of his books into the series. So whatever your favorite Pike book is, there’s a chance it’ll be part of the show.

The team behind the “The Haunting of Bly Manor” at Netflix is now set to adapt the Christopher Pike novel “The Midnight Club” for the streamer, Variety has learned exclusively from sources.
The book was originally published in 1994. It takes place at Rotterdam Home, a hospice for terminally ill teenagers. A group of patients begin to gather together at midnight to share scary stories. They eventually make a pact that whichever of them dies first will contact the others from beyond the grave. Sources say that the series would also incorporate other Pike works.
“The Haunting” creator Mike Flanagan will create the “Midnight Club” series for television along with Leah Fong. Flanagan will executive produce via Intrepid Pictures along with Intrepid’s Trevor Macy. Intrepid is currently under an overall deal at Netflix. Fong will also executive produce with Julia Bicknell. An update to a project we first alerted you to over a year ago, in February 2012. Danny Glover stars in the indie feature project titled Supremacy, based on a true story about a recently-paroled white supremacist who, "after killing a police officer, takes an African American family hostage." Derek Luke, Evan Ross, Lela Rochon, Joe Anderson (The Grey, The River) and Dawn Olivieri (she plays Don Cheadle's ex-wife on Showtime's House Of Lies) round out the cast,...

After a number of years spent sifting through independently-produced horror movies of every size, shape, quality, and nationality, one starts to notice the little intangibles. Things like intent, effort, and passion -- and, on the other hand, stuff like laziness, cynicism, and outright plagiarism. One of the recent "discoveries" on my horror rounds was an American indie called Smiley that, oddly enough for such a tiny film, earned itself a small theatrical run a few months back, probably because the sales agent knew what s/he was doing. Michael J. Gallagher's monumentally uneventful slasher flick Smiley comfortably joins the ranks of films like Chain Letter, Blood Creek, and Creature: low-rent horror flicks that play theaters only so the DVD sales sheets can legally say "fresh off a successful theatrical run!"
Because not even the creators of Smiley could believe that a movie this woeful could pack any appreciable number...

Horror fans love their icons. We watch our favorite movies repeatedly. We visit horror conventions to get up close and personal with the horror stars. We've worshiped the Romeros, Cravens, Hoopers and Carpenters and loved the Englunds, Moseleys, Todds and Hodders.
But in addition to them, we need new blood as well. Say hello to the next great one… Adam Green.
We need that next wave of horror icons. We love our horror stars, but to have the genre live on and thrive as it has, we need new horror superstars. But that is not an easy torch to take. We're used to Romero, Craven and Carpenter. We accept them and will go to see any film they put out. When a guy from Holliston, Ma came out of the blue and threw his hat into the horror genre, we collectively said, "Who the hell is Adam Green?" Then he...

Apparently the reboot of I Spit On Your Grave did well enough to warrant a sequel, and according to Bloody Disgusting, Thomas Fenton has been hired to write a sequel. There’s no information beyond that, as the project is in the earliest stages of conception, but it’s easy to legitimately speculate that a second installment might feature more rape and more revenge. Felton has a story credit on Saw IV and did work on (but was not credited with) Chain Letter. He’s also currently working on a biopic of John DeLorean for Nine/8 Entertainment. I Spit On Your Grave 2 might be the first major chance for us to see his writing talent on raw display, The production team is most likely looking to capitalize on re-invigorated name recognition, but it would be a cool nod if they called the new movie Day of the Woman. Just throwin’ it out there.

As she pushes hard to overcome these problems she soon realizes that she's fighting something very dark.
It is noted that the film will employ a "handheld style" in the shooting, which will take place in Los Angeles, Sacramento, Japan and San Francisco, beginning November 10th.

Based on the classic urban legend that if you do not forward a certain email to a certain amount of people then you will die. Chain Letter brings the legend to the screen. At a high school in some random town this chain letter that says If you don't send the message to 5 people you will die in 24 hours is going around the school. All the kids who delete the message end up being stalked and killed. Chain letters were very popular in the pre- my…...

Vlog Technology takes a deadly turn! First it was electric circuits in Pulse and Ghost in the Machine. That old urban legend of a VHS cassette tape that kills anyone that watches it came true for the characters in The Ring. Phone calls weren't just menacing, they were downright deadly in One Missed Call. And finally, e-mails and text messages resulted in some incredibly gruesome torture sequences in Chain Letter. Now get prepared as the latest internet trend, vlogging - blogging, but with a video camera, takes a horrific turn for the worst in Vlog, from the producers of Saw and Twisted Pictures.
Over ten million young adults (18 – 24) watch video blogs and viral videos per month. That’s 2/3 of the entire young adult audience in the United States. But beyond the cat videos and loud but harmless rants, there is a dark side to watching “vlogs” (blog in video form...

Breaking Glass Pictures Right now, horror fans for the most part are stuck with one bland, uninspired horror film after another. Sure, there is some sterling horror films that come along like Insidious that get fans raving again, but they are too few and far between. Let's go back to the 2010 Halloween horror scene. Some of the titles that came out around that time included Case 39, Let Me In, Hatchet II, My Soul to Take, Saw 3D, Paranormal Activity 2 and Chain Letter. And I have to say, every single one of those films missed the mark. Now I am not a hater of mainstream horror. A good horror film is a good horror film regardless of budget.
Saw 3D forgot to put enough focus on the characters that made the series compelling to begin with. Chain Letter forgot to tell a story that was cohesive to its premise.

There’s something about disaster movies that make them fun, no matter how cheesy, and here’s the latest. Anchor Bay will release the airborne thriller Turbulent Skies on DVD on July 26.
Casper Van Dien looks good -- before looking up! -- in Turbulent Skies.
In the film, everything appears to be fine on a fully loaded 747 jet airliner that’s equipped with a revolutionary automated piloting system, until the plane veers off course … directly into the path of a huge storm! When the airplane heads for a large city and the Secretary of Defense authorizes the military to shoot the it out of the air, it’s up to the system’s inventor and his team to avert the disaster.
Turbulent Skies is a DVD premiere movie that sports all the appropriate straight-to-dvd credits: The film is directed and co-written by Fred Olen Ray (Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers) and stars...

Michael Masucci takes us behind-the-scenes of Corey Haim's last film, available on Blu-ray and DVD now
It has been one year since the death of beloved actor and former teen idol Corey Haim. In remembering the star of such classic films as The Lost Boys and Lucas, Global Universal has released American Sunset on Blu-ray and DVD. This murder mystery from director Michael Masucci features Corey Haim in his last starring role. We're huge fans of Corey, and having recently seen the film, we can tell you in all honesty that it's a great sendoff for Haim. It's a movie he would have been proud of, and it reestablishes the once troubled reality show celebrity as a great actor worthy of his former fame.
Corey Haim goes toe-to-toe with Frank Molina for a great deal of American Sunset's runtime, in a story about a young man desperately searching for his missing wife.

Chatroom aka Ch@troom First audiences were spooked by a VHS tape in The Ring. Then the telephone became an instrument of evil in One Missed Call. Next, e-mail spam took a deadly turn in Chain Letter. Continuing with the idea of playing up to urban legends associated with various forms of media comes Chatroom.
Chatroom was the second English-language feature from Japanese horror veteran Hideo Nakata (The Ring Two). Chatroom has played in various countries throughout 2010 and the beginning of 2011. It still has an undetermined release date for 2011, but since the film has gone through the MPAA, it appears as though a distributor has acquired the rights to release the film in the Us.
In Chatroom directed by Hideo Nakata (Ringu), Eva (Imogen Poots) is a young model whose good looks and poise disguise her aching doubts about herself and her wishes she could be more like others. Jim...

Deon Taylor’s Chain Letter wishes it was everything a horror fan would want in a movie. Good looking teens on the run and looking over their shoulder with every step they take with a crazed mysterious killer chasing after them. Chain Letter has lot’s of blood and gore with inventive kills from a guy who they simply call the Chain Man, but there's not much story to this.
Jessie Campbell (Nikki Reed ) leads the teen charge when they all start receiving a certain chain letter through email, which warns them to not stop the chain letter. When they do stop bad things start to happen.
There are some familiar genre faces in this film including a weird performance by Brad Dourif (Child’s Play) playing school teacher Mr. Smirker and Betsy Russell (Saw The Final Chapter) portraying Sergeant Hamill. There are a few more familiar faces you’ll recognize too.

If you actually ventured past your multiplex and watched horror films other then the uninspired "A Nightmare on Elm Street" remake, the strictly putting it in 3D for the money "My Soul to Take", the pointless remake of Let The Right One In entitled "Let Me In", the lifeless remake of "The Crazies" and other mostly bland mainstream horror releases that made up 2010, you would discover a wonderful world of indie horror films that stood out. George A. Romero showed that he's still got it with Survival of the Dead. Comedy and horror were brought together seamlessly (for once!) in President's Day & All About Evil. And plenty of other terrific independent films stood out. However, it wasn't all rosy for the independent horror films of 2010, as they also produced some highly publicized stinkers or films that finally came off the shelf after gathering dust for years. Still, for once, 2010 had...

Unfortunately, everything else that proceeds in Chain Letter is so overwrought, so overdone and so over the top, that Chain Letter becomes unintentionally funny. Let Me In
Dark, beautiful, intriguing, Matt Reeves’ remake of the Swedish modern classic Let the Right One In proved that many we should sometimes let up on remakes. It’s damn good, if not great, as it made both Donny and I’s Top Films of 2010 lists. (Formats: Blu-ray/DVD) Jon says: Buy Donny says: Buy
Hatchet II
The fight for unrated horror was just too much for AMC Theaters who originally supported Adam Green’s unrated gorefest, only to pull it within a day or two after opening weekend release.

Another great week of releases is upon us gang, starting with Adam Green's Hatchet II which sees murderous inbred, Richard Crowley back to his old sick tricks. Hatchet the first was a seriously twisted exorcise in old school horror, so I can't wait to check this bad boy out.
Another big horror title out this week is Let Me In (review), Matt Reeves' adaptation/remake of Swedish vampire novel/movie Let the Right One In. This one's also produced by Hammer who are determined to make a comeback in the horror game.
Next up is an overdue release of Monsters (review), Gareth Edwards' festival favourite. This one's divided viewers, but I'd say it was an ambitious road movie romance with monsters looming in the background. I'd also say the film misses an opportunity to amp up the tension in places - but who am I to argue with Edwards' masterpiece.

What a better time to review Chain Letter than today (Feb. 1st) the day it hits DVD and Blu-ray everywhere. Usually, if a film starts to generate some buzz based on early, or limited screenings, I go out of my way to remain willfully ignorant of it's contents. “Chain Letter” is something that I begun hearing buzz about in early 2010. Apparently it did a short theatrical run earlier in the year...
The buzz was all about the gore, and how insane the gore was, and gore this, and that. Don't get me wrong, I love gore, but after “A Serbian Film”, it's not something I get worked up over. I am a huge proponent of practical effects, so I definitely give kudos when filmmakers go that route, but other than that, I just want a good film. “Chain Letter” deliver?
The short answer is no, but allow me to articulate for you,...
