More than 16 years after the release of Singh Is Kinng, a sequel to the hit action comedy film is finally in the works. Producer Shailendra Singh, who has acquired the title’s rights from Akshay Kumar and producer Vipul A Shah, has confirmed that Singh Is Kinng 2 is officially developing.

However, the movie will not continue the journey of Akshay Kumar’s Happy Singh; instead, it will follow a new character. According to Shailendra, he plans to sign either Ranveer Singh or Diljit Dosanjh for the lead role. Producer Shailendra Singh Confirms Singh Is Kinng Sequel

Film co-productions between Australia and India received a significant double boost this week with the ratification of a treaty that was proposed last year and the Indian government’s major enhancement of filming incentives.

An Australian delegation is attending the ongoing International Film Festival of India (Iffi), Goa and the concurrent film market, Film Bazaar. Australian producer Helen Leake is on the Iffi international competition jury and documentary “Brand Bollywood Downunder” by Indian origin Australian filmmaker Anupam Sharma, who also serves as director of the Australia India Film Council, is playing at the festival.

“Screen Australia is delighted that the Australian-Indian treaty is now in force. The treaty provides a framework and opportunity for greater creative collaboration between Australia and India. It will allow producers from both countries to share resources and the risk of financing a film and will provide access to new markets and audiences,” a spokesperson from Screen Australia told Variety.

Actor Kartik Aaryan, producer Bhushan Kumar and director Anees Bazmee have reunited for “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3,” the next instalment of the successful horror-comedy Bollywood franchise.

Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan starred in Priyadarshan’s “Bhool Bhulaiyaa” (2007) that means labyrinth, a remake of Fazil’s Malayalam-language film “Manichitrathazhu” (1993), starring Mohanlal and Shobana.

“Manichithrathazhu” was also remade in the Kannada-language as “Apthamitra” (2004), starring Vishnuvardhan, in the Tamil and Telugu languages as “Chandramukhi” (2005), starring Rajinikanth, and in the Bengali language as “Rajmohol” (2005), starring Prosenjit Chatterjee.

“Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2,” starring Aaryan and Tabu, was one of the few box office successes in an otherwise forgettable 2022 for Bollywood, earning $33 million. The film cemented Aaryan’s position as one of Bollywood’s A-listers.

The Indian government has approved an audiovisual co-production treaty with Australia, designed to promote joint production of films between the two countries.

While details are currently scarce, producer contributions from the two countries can vary from 20 to 80 of the final total cost of the jointly produced work.

“Australia has emerged as a preferred destination for shooting of Indian films. India is fast emerging as a major content hub for filmmakers looking for new projects. India has abundance of exotic locations, talent pool and relatively cheaper cost of production, making India a favored destination of foreign film-makers,” the Indian government said in a statement.

“The proposed agreement will boost ties with Australia, lead to exchange of art and culture, showcase the soft power of our country and lead to generation of employment among artistic, technical as well as non-technical personnel engaged in audiovisual co-production, including production and post-production work,” the statement added.

Veteran Indian actor and former chairman of India’s National Film Development Corporation (Nfdc) has died from a heart attack, aged 66.

Puri was a familiar figure in British cinema due to his roles in films such as Udayan Prasad’s My Son The Fanatic (1997), Damien O’Donnell’s East Is East (1999) - for which he was BAFTA-nominated - and its sequel West Is West, directed by Andy De Emmony in 2010.

He had recently completed filming a role in Gurinder Chadha’s upcoming Viceroy’s House, alongside Gillian Anderson, Michael Gambon and Hugh Bonneville.

Credited with Bollywood’s popular laugh riots “No Entry” and “Welcome”, filmmaker Anees Bazmee says comedy is the toughest genre to work on for a writer, and when a movie is loaded with double entendres, it’s merely a “shorcut”.

Of late, the Hindi film industry has witnessed a surge in comedy entertainers, but a sex comedy laced with sexual innuendos seem to be the current favourite flavour. Bazmee is not all for it.

“There are some good comedy films even now, but comedy films which are double-meaning and are a shortcut. I don’t want to make them and I don’t want to watch them. I don’t want to even say whether they are good or bad… My personal choice is to work around buffoonery,” Bazmee told Ians in an interview.

Bollywood can be a confusing place. All parties involved are insistent that Singh is Bliing [sic], a goofy comedy starring Akshay Kumar as a beturbanned tough-nut named Singh, has nothing whatsoever to do with 2008’s Singh is Kinng, a goofy comedy that starred Akshay Kumar as a beturbanned tough-nut named Singh. Yet the similarities of tone and title are such one wonders whether some behind-the-scenes legal finagling has obliged the new film’s creatives to adopt an alternative trajectory. There is, after all, a fair amount here with which you wouldn’t want to be associated: even by Kumar’s lowly standards, it’s pretty inane stuff.

Why is this film called "Singh is Bliing" when there isn't a single reference to bling? What was the problem with "Singh is Kinng 2?" Singh is Bliing is a film starring Akshay Kumar, Amy Jackson, Lara Dutta and Kay Kay Menon and directed by Prabhu Deva. It seems no Bollywood film showing the hero in a turban can get away without frowns and disapproval from Sikh organizations. When Akshay Kumar had donned the turban to play a Sardarji in Singh Is Kinng in 2008 he had to appease organizations which objected to the length of his beard and the way his turban was tied. Now on the basis of just the trailer and songs, Sikh organizations have raised objections to Akshay's turbaned act in Prabhu Dheva's Singh Is Bliing. In a bid to pacify the premature protests Akshay Kumar called leaders and prominent members of various Sikh organizations from Punjab and Delhi to Mumbai for a private screening of Singh Is Bliing. Says a source, "Rather than face protests a week before release Akshay wisely decided to take Sikh organizations into confidence now itself. He flew down the members at his own cost and showed them the film.

Anees Bazmee could well be heaving a sigh of relief. His Welcome Back has finally released and a gap of four years since Ready (2011), a Rs. 100 crore affair with Salman Khan, has finally been closed. While the Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar and John Abraham starrer is also doing fantastic at the Box Office, the maker of Welcome and Singh Is Kinng has now moved on to his next.

"First to go on floors would be Aankhen 2 with Amitabh Bachchan. Yet again, Amitji would have company of three blind men. However, unlike the first in the franchise, they won't be Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal or Paresh Rawal. Instead, new actors would be stepping in," informs our source.

While this would continue the trend of multi-starrers for Anees Bazmee, who has also made No Entry, Thank You and No Problem, the other two films would be a comedy followed by a love story.

Back in 2008, Akshay Kumar set the Indian box office on fire with Singh Is Kinng. That film introduced filmgoers to Akshay's Harpreet Singh, a guileless Sikh do-gooder who gets caught up in mafia shenanigans. It also featured Akshay rapping a duet with Snoop Dogg on the soundtrack, which amuses me to no end. This October, the film gets a sequel with Singh Is Bliing (misspelling intentional).Singh Is Bliing is directed by Bollywood's new master of hyperbole, Prabhudeva. Prabhudeva's previous directorial efforts include Salman Khan's Wanted, Kumar's Rowdy Rathore, and Ajay Devgn's ludicrous Action Jackson. Dharma Productions, Lionsgate, Endemol India and Fox Star Studios are teamed on Brothers, the Bollywood remake of Gavin O’Connor’s 2011 Oscar-nominated sports drama Warrior which starred Tom Hardy. Produced by Karan Johar, directed by Karan Malhotra and starring Akshay Kumar, Sidharth Malhotra (My Name Is Khan) and Jacqueline Fernandez (Kick), this is teed up to be one of the Bollywood blockbusters of the summer. India’s Reliance Entertainment is forming a 50:50 joint venture with Phantom Films, an ambitious local production house founded by filmmakers Anurag Kashyap, Vikas Bahl, Vikramaditya Motwane and Madhu Mantena.

The two partners plan to develop and produce around five to six films a year, handle distribution in India and overseas, and syndicate rights to the two companies’ combined library of around 175 titles.

Phantom Films will manage the day-to-day operations of the joint venture.

Reliance said in a statement: “The proposed combination will leverage the proven creative and production capabilities of the Phantom team, while enjoying access to the established domestic and international sales and distribution infrastructure of Reliance Entertainment.”

The statement suggested the joint venture would have access to companies part-owned by the Reliance Group such as La-based sales and production powerhouse Im Global, which sells select Reliance titles at international markets.

It was Karan Johar who gave the title Singh Is Bling for the next Akshay Kumar film to be co-produced by Akshay and his Grazing Goat partner Ashvini Yardi Speaking on the incident that sparked of the blingy title Ashvini says, "The title came to us from Akshay Kumar. And he got it from Karan Johar. It happened at an event where Karan saw Akshay in a blingy jacket. Karan exclaimed, 'Oh, Singh is bling!' " Ashvini took Karan's permission for the title. "I called up Karan and asked his permission to use the title. It would have a lot of stunning action. And it will be shot entirely abroad." The articulate Ashvini clarifies that Singh Is Bling is not a sequel to the Vipul Shah-produced Anees Bazmee-directed Akshay comedy Singh In Kinng made in 2008. "No it is not a sequel! The only similarity is that Akshay plays a Sardar in both.

12 years after Vipul Shah's directorial debut Aankhen, about a bunch of blind men undertaking a dare devilish bank heist, the film's producer Gaurang Doshi is all set to roll with the sequel.

Gaurang had a massive fall-out with Vipul Shah during the making of Aankhen. They parted acrimoniously and the sequel remained uncertain for all these years. Until now. Interestingly, Aankhen 2 will be directed by Anees Bazmee who had a fall-out with Vipul Shah during the making of Singh Is Kinng.

Confirming this Anees says, "Yes, Gaurang and I have met over Aankhen 2. I am now in Ahmedabad for a function. As soon as I return to Mumbai we'll finalize the details." Adds Gaurang Doshi, "12 years seems like a long time to sit on a sequel. But what to do? So much has happened since then. Aankhen 2 will have a completely new cast."

Akshay Kumar can now cheer aloud. His ‘Holiday’ is now well on course to enter the 100 crore club, what with around 68 crore coming in the first week itself. What makes this A.R. Murugadoss directed film special is the fact that it has been well accepted by the audience with some good to very good appreciation coming in, hence also resulting in repeat viewing. One of the rare films to do well across A, B and C centers with multiplexes as well as single screen audience giving it a nod of approval, ‘Holiday’ is all set to be a good box office success of the year.
