The first full week of November is here, and Netflix is not wasting any time getting the Christmas movies out. They have four Xmas movies coming out this week and are just throwing in a bank heist show for good measure. Is there really a bad time for a heist show? No.

First up this week is Meet Me Next Christmas! It hits Netflix on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024 and stars Christina Milan, Devale Ellis, Tymika Tafari, and the entire Pentatonix crew. If nothing else, the music will be great in this movie.

The film follows Layla as she does everything she can to get a ticket to see Pentatonix. But can she do that and be with the man of her dreams this Christmas? You'll have to watch and find out. I love Christmas movies with weird premises. Delightful!

But what about the other three Christmas movies?...

A topical historical drama depicting the creation of IVF; a paranoid thriller series starring Colman Domingo; a bracingly original crime musical, and awards contender, from Jacques Audiard; the second part of the final season of Cobra Kai; and a reverential big-screen adaptation of a Pulitzer-winning August Wilson play are some of the highlights among the new films and series hitting Netflix in November.

On Nov. 7, action and mystery drama Outer Banks returns to Netflix. The first half of season four ended with several cliff-hangers for the Pogues, many of which should be resolved, to some degree, in the second half of the season. Over on Kildare Island, Rudy Pankow’s JJ probably gets the biggest bomb dropped on him when he learns that he’s not the son of his alcoholic and abusive father, Luke. The cast have promised “craziness” so expect some more jaw-dropping revelations.

With its list of new releases for November 2021, Netflix will attempt to bravely step into a post-Squid Game world. Helping it in that mission is a diverse array of original series and films.

On the TV side of things, it’s a good month to be animated with both Big Mouth and F is for Family premiering their fifth seasons (on Nov. 5 and Nov. 25 respectively). It’s the live-action version of an animated classic, however, that might be Netflix’s crown jewel this month. Cowboy Bebop premieres on Nov. 19 and based on the first trailer, it will maintain the spirit of the beloved anime. And speaking of big hits, Tiger King 2 is set to arrive on Nov. 17.

November 2021 already looks like the biggest month of the year for Netflix. The streaming platform will debut a number of new movies and television shows, including highly-anticipated awards contenders like “The Harder They Fall,” “Passing,” “tick, tick… Boom!” and “Bruised,” plus the blockbuster “Red Notice” with Gal Gadot, Ryan Reynolds, and Dwayne Johnson. Elizabeth Hurley (“The Royals”) will star in romantic comedy “Christmas in the Carribbean.” Principal photography will commence this week in the islands of St Kitts and Nevis.

The film is produced by Msr Media’s Philippe Martinez, who will also direct, and Highfield Grange Studios’ Alan Latham.

Written by Martinez and Nathalie Cox, the film will follow Rachel (Hurley), a hopeless romantic who is jilted at the altar. Not to let her Christmas in the Caribbean honeymoon go to waste, Rachel and her two bridesmaids jet off to the islands, where love blossoms and she has to make a life choice.

The cast also includes Caroline Quentin (“Bridgerton”), Nathalie Cox (“My Dad’s Christmas Date”), Edoardo Costa (“Non-Stop”), Hadar Cats (“Next Generation Role Model”), Downtown Julie Brown (“A Year in Music”) and Rafael Martinez (“NCIS: Los Angeles”).

Exclusive: Amazon Studios has set Winston Duke (Black Panther) to star as Marcus Garvey in Marked Man. Garvey was a political activist who was a key figure of Black nationalism in the 20th century. Andrew Dosunmu will direct the drama, and Jesse Williams (Little Fires Everywhere) and DeWanda Wise (She’s Gotta Have It) are in talks to star.

The film is partly inspired by the Colin Grant biography Negro with a Hat: The Rise and Fall of Marcus Garvey. The script is by acclaimed playwright Kwame Kwei-Armah, which Esther Douglas developed with the support of the BFI Film Fund.

US acquisitions manager will handle feature film development at the UK-based production company.

Msr Media has appointed Nick Royak as vice president of development as the UK-based production company continues to build its slate of features.

Royak joins from US distributor Gravitas Ventures, which he first joined in May 2014. He most recently held the position of senior acquisitions manager, picking up more than 200 titles, and was previously international sales and business development manager, operating as one of the company’s key sales executives at international markets.

As if sensing that the election would provide enough nail-biting excitement to last Americans for days, distributors have largely backed off the first weekend in November.

Focus Features is releasing a solid Kevin Costner-Diane Lane thriller with serious Red State appeal in “Let Him Go,” for those with access to theaters, and there are a number of backlogged festival movies picking this weekend to open: the best of them is “Proxima,” featuring Eva Green as a French astronaut preparing to leave her son behind for her first trip to space, though Toronto 2019 premiere “Jungleland” and Sundance oddity “Koko-di Koko-da” are solid options as well.

Genre fans have a few options, ranging from “Triggered” (a “Battle Royale”-esque survival game in which old friends must kill one another to survive) to “The Informer,” a movie that opened in theaters abroad way back in 2019, but brings some excitement to a tame frame.
