Not what I was expecting

Tbh I'm not sure what I was expecting, I thought this was going to be about a group of surfers shredding waves in some ocean- the cast of surfers are very talented, but while I won't go into a long winded review, let's just say most everything about this show is like the wave pool where it's filmed: manufactured.

Attn: casting

Casting for the sake of drama is so old. Please trust your show runners and producers to create a good enough show to hold our attention without creating #TeamX vs #TeamZ. It's ok and actually preferred to watch a show where contestants root for each other and are nice to each other. After the first episode I feel like I'm supposed to like one "side" and hate the other. Pitting the ladies against each other is pretty low.

I want to like the show; it aims to be Survivor-lite set on a wave. I've never had the opportunity to surf and would love to learn in that big wave pool! Sign me up, it looks so fun!

Surfing At The Ranch

Jesse Palmer hosts this surfing competition show that features seven men and seven women battling for a top prize of $100,000 and a spot on the world tour. They compete in teams (one man/one woman) at Kelly Slater's surf ranch, where a hydrofoil creates 6 foot waves in a pool 700 yards long.

This facility produces uniform waves, which takes some of the luck out of the competition. On the other hand, it removes the thrill of the unknown.

The teams compete in "Beach Battles" that focus on the skills every surfer needs to be the best. And they compete in "Wave Challenges" to test their skills with particular on-wave moves, like crossovers and riding in the barrel. At the end of each episode, one man and one woman are eliminated in a surf-off.

The series is entertaining for anyone who appreciates surfing. The personal drama is minimized, with an emphasis on a variety of challenges and stiff competition between some talented athletes.

Malia Ward.

Let's be honest here - We're only watching this show because Malia Ward is in it.

Keep up the good work kid - San Clemente, California is proud of you.

80% drama - 20% surfing in a wave pool

Scripted drama series like every other. Only with a surfing theme. If you're into fake drama you'll enjoy this, but if you're into surfing, this is not what we'd hoped it could have been.

Surfing?

There's literally 10min of surfing per episode so far. Drama, commercial break, drama, commercial and then some surfing sprinkled in. My advice, record it then fast forward to the surfing.

Makes Surfing Boring

Dullsville, boring and flat. Absolutely no excitement and the cast, while definitely great surfers and good looking, lack any personality. Who cares who wins in the end? I don't. I'd rather watch the surfing film, Big Wednesday.

Psyching

Awesome show! WSL Slater and ABC hit it on the spot with this new series.

Dumb

I'm sorry, but this is just dumb. Who cares about surfing? What percentage of the United States lives on a coast and surfing is a thing in their area? They have to add all the drama to the show to give us something to actually watch - and the drama is flat and uninteresting.

In the end, who really cares about a surfing show? This is just dumb.

A lotta talking, not much surfing.

Seems like it is targeted to adolescent idiots. Way too contrived.
