‘Silent Bite’ Review
Image
Stars: Luke Avoledo, Nick Biskupek, Simon Phillips, Michael Swatton, Dan Molson, Sayla de Goede, Camille Blott, Paul Whitney | Written by Simon Phillips | Directed by Taylor Martin

Silent Bite is the third exercise in seasonal slaughter from writer/actor Simon Phillips, who also gave us Once Upon a Time at Christmas and its sequel The Nights Before Christmas. While they weren’t the greatest examples of the genre, they were far from the worst as well, and they do say the third time is the charm, so I decided to kick off my Christmas viewing with it.

A gang of Santa suited bank robbers, Prancer, Grinch, Father Christmas (Simon Phillips), and Snowman, are hiding out at The Jolly Roger Inn and Resort. Despite its name, it’s a dump in the middle of nowhere, which makes it perfect for them to lie low while Rudolph leads the police on a wild good chase.

The Mouse Trap trailer: Mickey Mouse horror film is being released this month
Mickey Mouse
On January 1st, the earliest versions of Mickey Mouse – seen in the animated shorts Plane Crazy, The Gallopin’ Gaucho, and most famously Steamboat Willie – became public domain… which, of course, means we’re now going to get multiple horror movies that feature characters inspired by Mickey Mouse. Within the first three days of the year, we saw the short film The Vanishing of S.S. Willie, a trailer for the slasher movie Mickey’s Mouse Trap, and an announcement that Terrifier 2 producers Steven Della Salla and Michael Leavy and director Steven Lamorte, who previously made the Grinch-inspired horror movie The Mean One, were teaming up for a Steamboat Willie-inspired horror flick that we now know is titled Screamboat. Mickey’s Mouse Trap has since undergone a title change of its own – it’s now simply known as The Mouse Trap, and it’s set to receive a VOD release from Gravitas Ventures on August 6th,...

Mark Wahlberg’s Unrealistic Ideas In Early Works On Documentary About Convicted Drug Kingpin Owen Hanson
Image
Exclusive: Mark Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson and Archie Gips’ production company Unrealistic Ideas is teaming with producer Van Echeverri for a documentary feature about the FBI’s takedown of USC football player-turned-drug kingpin Owen Hanson.

“Unrealistic Ideas has a strong track record in the true-crime space, and the story of Owen Hanson jumped out at us,” said Unrealistic Ideas President/Partner Gips. “This is a working-class guy who worked hard to get into USC and then used the business skills he gained through his education there to create a global drug empire. We’re looking to explore how that happened and how it all fell apart.”

Hanson began dealing recreational drugs and steroids to teammates in college during the early 2000s, ultimately building a violent empire that operated in U.S., Central and South America and Australia. Arrested in September 2015 and sentenced in late 2017 to more than 21 years in federal prison,...
