Wednesday fans are eager to see Jenna Ortega return to Netflix in the second season of the acclaimed fantasy drama, and with the new episodes set to roll out later this year, Ortega has been teasing what is coming in the sophomore season. Season 1 of Wednesday became one of Netflix’s biggest hits, and it looks like Season 2 is going to be even bigger as it takes inspiration from some classic movies of the past.
While speaking to Collider about her new movie, Death of a Unicorn, the actress was asked about the new season of Wednesday, and shared how this time around the show will dig even further into horror even more elaborately than the first season. She said:
“Visually, I can say we have some of the most fun we've ever had. It's crazy to talk about one frame like this, but there is a frame of Pugsley...

There isn’t a filmmaker working today who is quite as successful at making grandiose historical epics as Ridley Scott, whose ability to capture massive scale and bring to life unforeseen eras is virtually unparalleled. While Scott’s work on modern classics such as Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, and Kingdom of Heaven were hailed as significant achievements, not all of his more recent films have earned the same praise; despite their impressive scale and visuals, Exodus: Gods and Kings, Robin Hood, House of Gucci, and Napoleon triggered more mixed responses. Although some fans may have feared that he was losing his edge, The Last Duelwas a creative, engaging reconstruction of one of the most significant events in medieval history, and featured some of the strongest performances in any of Scott’s films.

Jack Huston, known for his acting work in Boardwalk Empire and American Hustle, has come aboard to direct a biopic centered on Joseph Merrick, the deformed Victorian Age artist known as The Elephant Man.
Phoenix Pictures is backing the feature, titled Joseph Merrick, which will be produced by Kate Cohen, Mike Medavoy and David Dobkin. Huston will also produce.
Production is looking to start later this year.
Merrick was an object of fascination during his life, and his story resonated beyond his lifetime. He was a man who was incredibly deformed and was used as a circus freak while a teenager and became an object of curiosity by London society as well as scientific circles, but he was also an artist whose work broke beyond the limits of his sometimes confined life. David Lynch directed an Oscar-nominated biopic that starred John Hurt in 1980, titled The Elephant Man, and the man has appeared in countless books,...

Lady Gaga returned to Saturday Night Live on March 8, 2025, taking on both hosting and musical guest duties. It was her second time hosting the show, and she kicked things off with a monologue that blended humor with updates on her career. Gaga didn’t shy away from poking fun at some bumpy moments, including her acting journey and a controversial past performance.
The pop star looked back at her first hosting gig in 2013, when she was 27 years old. Now 38, she quipped about how time has flown. “Last time I hosted ‘SNL,’ I was 27. I’m 38 now, which is scientifically the best age for a female pop star to be,” she said. “Most pop stars are over 40. Chappell Roan is 58. And Charli xcx, she’s 75. Tate McRae is my biological grandmother.” The audience laughed as she set the tone for a night of self-aware comedy.

Lady Gaga spun some comedy out of some of her less glamorous career developments in her return to “Saturday Night Live,” cracking jokes about incarcerated singer and producer R. Kelly’s appearance during her prior hosting gig and scoring some laughs for the notoriously bad reception for “Joker: Folie à Deux.”
“I’m so happy to be back at ‘SNL.’ The last time I hosted was in 2013. And every aspect of my performance aged amazingly,” Gaga said, beginning a nervous dance. “Because there’s no need to Google ‘SNL 2013 Lady Gaga featuring R. Kelly.’ I won’t bring it up!” The pair had performed together on the episode, years before R. Kelly was charged and convicted for racketeering and sex trafficking.
Gaga immediately segued into talking about her more recent, renewed focus on screen acting, which has included praised performances in “A Star Is Born” and “House of Gucci.” But...

24 years later and the sequel, which has been re-written, reworked, and felt like it would never come, has finally hit our screens. Soon after the release of the best picture-winning original, Nick Cave was tasked with writing the sequel. His vision saw the return of Maximus (Russel Crowe) and his descent into the afterlife. The original script is available to read online and involves ancient Roman Gods and a montage of wars including the Crusades, World War II, and the Vietnam War. In another universe somewhere, that’s the film we would have all flocked to see, and good or bad, it would have certainly been a bold and unique take. For many, Gladiator II, released in November 2024, failed to meet the expectations set by its 2000 predecessor. A legacy sequel that seemed like a slam dunk turned out to be a misguided and unfocused defeat inside the Colosseum for director Ridley Scott. However, anyone who has been paying attention to Scott's filmography as of late should not have been surprised by the film's tonal imbalance and off-kilter pacing. Now 87 years old, Scott has displayed a lack of conformity when directing films that seem destined for Oscars and mass critical acclaim, and no film signaled his late-period shift into the peculiar and gonzo quite like House of Gucci. With a stacked cast that included Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, and Al Pacino, the 2021 biographical crime drama featured an array of bonkers performances and shaggy pacing, but you definitely can't knock the film for being formulaic.

Oscar winner Ridley Scott's last two films have been sweeping historical epics, revisiting the war-torn times of Napoleon and returning to ancient Rome with the legacy sequel Gladiator II. Before he took on these massive, big-budget endeavors, however, the legendary filmmaker made a more campy biographical crime drama based around one of the most famous fashion houses to ever exist — House of Gucci. Released in 2021, the film featured Oscar winner Lady Gaga and nominee Adam Driver at the top as Patrizia Reggiani and her ticket into the Gucci empire, Maurizio Gucci, whose romance throws the family into an all-out war for control. For those who want to experience more of Scott's work after catching his Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal-led blockbuster, his tale of ambition, deception, and revenge is now available to stream for free on Tubi.

One of the most adult things you can do is face your failures head-on, and that is what Lady Gaga is doing regarding Joker: Folie à Deux. Fresh off revealing that she has a new album on the way, the singer/actress is speaking about the failure of the Joker sequel and has a pretty reasonable response as to why the film didn't work for everyone.
During a chat with Elle Magazine, Gaga made her first comments about Joker: Folie à Deux and its less-than-desirable performance at the box office and with critics. Given the circumstances, she gives the best response she can on the matter by saying, "People just sometimes don't like some things. It's that simple. And I think to be an artist, you have to be willing for people to sometimes not like it. And you keep going even if something didn't connect the way you intended.

Did Lady Gaga film a bold scene with Salma Hayek? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Apparently, Lady Gaga and Salma Hayek filmed a “hot” scene that never made it to theaters. Yep, Patrizia Reggiani and her psychic, Pina Auriemma, got steamy, at least in a version of the movie we’ll never see. Gaga spilled the tea, saying, “There’s a whole side of this film that you did not see, where Pina and I developed a fiery relationship.”
Director’s cut, anyone?
The surprise twist wasn’t in the original script. Gaga, fully immersed in her character’s chaotic energy, pitched the idea during filming. “So after Maurizio dies, maybe it gets hot?” she suggested to Hayek. Cue Salma’s hilarious response: “What are you talking about?”
But Ridley Scott, known for pushing boundaries, gave the green light to explore it. Gaga praised him, saying, “This is a testament to [Ridley Scott] as a director,...

It isn't unheard of for musical artists to venture into acting roles. Since the Golden Age of Hollywood musicals, the talents of singing, acting and even dancing have often gone together. However, in modern times, there have been more distinctions between these abilities and rarer instances of celebrities who possess the title of being triple-threats. Quite often, many singers who have gone into acting have received mixed receptions for their performances. Whether it be Justin Timberlake's acting stints during the early 2010s on The Social Network and Friends with Benefits, or Lady Gaga's memorable performances in A Star is Born and House of Gucci. The most recent instances of popular singers joining major films include Dua Lipa in Argylle or Post Malone in Road House. Another notable acting debut to look out for is Rnb singer Sza who will star in One of Them Days alongside Keke Palmer...

A medieval Ridley Scott movie fails to impress a historian with its depiction of a battle. The director has built a reputation for creating epic, visually striking films, often set against vast historical backdrops. Scott and his movies have tackled various historical eras, from ancient times to the 1980s and 1990s. From Gladiator to House of Gucci and Gladiator II, his films often explore themes of power, duty, and moral conflict, set within tumultuous periods of history.
As Scott’s filmmaking journey progressed, his interest in depicting large-scale military conflicts and action scenes intensified. For example, 2021's The Last Duel covered certain pivotal moments within medieval France, while the long-awaited sequel Gladiator II furthered his exploration of ancient Rome. The latter film was just released in November 2024 after a great deal of anticipation, and though it was met with somewhat mixed reviews, several heralded it as a demonstration of Scott's talent with historical epics.

Ridley Scott explains during a recent directors' roundtable why it's better to start a project with a script that isn't quite perfect. Now 87 years old, Scott is one of the most prolific and respected filmmakers in Hollywood, rising to fame with movies like Alien (1978) and Blade Runner (1980). In the years since, Scott has directed a number of notable titles, including Thelma & Louis (1991), Gladiator (2000), and Black Hawk Down (2001).
The more recent decades of Scott's career have been filled with ups and downs, and quite a lot that lives in the middle. In the mid-2000s, Scott released movies like Kingdom of Heaven (2005), American Gangster (2007), Body of Lies (2008), and Robin Hood (2010), none of which now stand among his best. Though movies like Prometheus (2012) and The Martian (2015) were successful, Alien: Covenant (2017) was widely perceived as a let-down, and this was followed by The Last Duel (2021) and House of Gucci (2021), and Napoleon (2023), all of which had mixed receptions.

Al Pacino has one of the most impressive careers of any actor in the history of Hollywood. For over half a century, he has bellowed, screamed, and "hoo-ahhed" his way into the cinematic history books. Throughout Pacino's prolific and varied career, there's one type of film he's associated with the most: the gangster movie.
Al Pacino's portrayal of Michael Corleone in the instant classic The Godfather secured his place among the best actors to ever bring the violence and debauchery of crime-related gang activities to life on the big screen. His subsequent performances in films such as Scarface, Carlito's Way, and, more recently, The Irishman have only further ratified what many of his fans have known for so long. No one brings the same intensity, duplicity, and manic energy to the rough-and-tumble world of gangster movies as Al Pacino.

Did Ridley Scott pass on all superhero movies? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
In a throwback chat with Deadline, Ridley Scott admitted he’d been courted by the superhero genre—but he wasn’t biting. His reason: He’s already done it, just better.
“Yeah, been offered, but just said, no, thank you. Not for me,” he said, completely unbothered. Then came the mic drop: “I’ve done two or three superhero films. I think Sigourney Weaver’s a superhero in Aliens. I think Russell Crowe‘s a superhero in Gladiator. And Harrison Ford is the super anti-hero in Blade Runner. The difference is, the f-cking stories are better.”
While some directors dream of joining the Marvel or DC machine, Scott couldn’t care less. Sure, he’s enjoyed a Batman flick here and Donner’s Superman there, but he’s just not a “superhero fan.” In fact, he’s openly criticized...

Gladiator 2's Box Office Pushed Ridley Scott Past A Major Milestone Only 9 Other Directors Have Done
2024 was a year filled with plenty of great box office successes, ranging from the biggest animated film of all time in Inside Out 2 to the highest-grossing Broadway musical adaptation ever, but one success that may have gone slightly under the radar was the historical epic sequel, Gladiator II. The legacy sequel was directed by Ridley Scott, one of Hollywood's most prolific directors, and its monetary success has earned him a very significant box office status that only a few other directors have managed.
While Gladiator II's reviews were tamer when compared to some of the bigger successes of the year, and fell short of the other half of the "Glicked" phenomenon, the film was an absolute hit, grossing over $430 million during its theatrical run. The film was a boon for many of Gladiator II's cast, bringing their box office scores up quite significantly. However, the addition to...

Does Mufasa: The Lion King Have A Post-Credits Scene? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Roaring back into the Pride Lands, Mufasa: The Lion King has taken us on a time-travel safari to uncover the legendary origins of Mufasa and his not-so-chummy brother, Taka, better known as Scar. Honestly, forget Simba for a moment because this prequel dives deep into the drama, betrayal, and mane-shaking moments that shaped Pride Rock’s most iconic ruler.
But wait, there’s more. Kiara, Simba, and Nala’s fierce cub prowls into the story to drop hints about the franchise’s future. With the wild success of 2019’s The Lion King, Disney’s gamble to go backward instead of forward seems pretty lion-hearted. And here’s a juicy thought: could a post-credits scene be lurking to tease the future? Let’s find out.

Lady Gaga’s transformation into Patrizia Reggiani for House of Gucci. ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Lady Gaga’s deep dive into the world of Patrizia Reggiani for House of Gucci nearly broke her. In a brutally honest interview with Vogue, Gaga revealed that she fully embodied the infamous Italian socialite for 1.5 years, transforming her life and mental state. “I lived as her,” Gaga confessed, speaking with Reggiani’s accent for nine months, even off camera. And no, she didn’t just stay in character for the shoot—she lived and breathed Reggiani’s world outside the set, too.
Her commitment was so intense that even her blonde locks couldn’t escape the transformation. “It was nearly impossible for me to speak in the accent of a blonde,” Gaga said. “I instantly had to dye my hair.” She even started adopting a new mindset, becoming fixated on “where and when I could see money” in her environment.

Ridley Scott's Gladiator 2 Cameramen Had To Dress As Roman Soldiers Because Of His Filming Technique
Gladiator II star Paul Mescal reveals that camera operators would dress up as Roman soldiers due to Ridley Scott's filming strategy. Coming 24 years after the beloved original Gladiator, Scott's sequel follows Mescal's Lucius as he becomes a hero of the Colosseum. Gladiator 2 reviews were generally positive from critics, with praise aimed at the movie's action sequences and epic scope, and it's now been revealed that Scott used an abundance of cameras to capture it all.
During THR's Actor Roundtable, Mescal speaks about Scott's filming strategy on Gladiator 2, recalling just how many cameras the director used for different scenes. Though a more intimate scene may use five or six, the Lucius actor reveals that Scott would have a dozen cameras going for more involved fight sequences. Getting this many cameras into a shot required some cleverness, and Mescal recalls camera operators wearing Roman soldier gear to blend in.

From a Bee Gees biopic to a new Alien movie to a potential Gladiator III, Ridley Scott has a handful of exciting upcoming movie projects in the works. Scott is known as one of the hardest-working filmmakers in Hollywood. He hardly ever stops to take a break; by the time he finishes one project, the next one is underway. His latest movie, Gladiator II, is a mega-budget historical epic with impressive blockbuster scale. Last year, he released a different mega-budget historical epic, Napoleon. In 2021, he released The Last Duel and House of Gucci within six weeks of each other.
A lot of directors work one project at a time — they focus all their attention on one movie and don’t even start thinking of ideas for another one until it’s in the can — but Scott doesn’t work that way. Scott’s best movies were all produced in quick succession.

Exclusive: The Dallas Buyers Club Oscar winner is close to boarding Barry Levinson’s booming ensemble in the David Mamet co-scripted Assassination. Jared Leto’s deal isn’t closed yet, but is nearing, we understand. He’ll join the JFK conspiracy movie which already counts his fellow House of Gucci star Al Pacino, Jessica Chastain, Brendan Fraser and Bryan Cranston.
The murder mystery noir pic centers around ground-breaking female crime reporter Dorothy Kilgallen played by Chastain. When she suspects that Lee Harvey Oswald did not act alone, she uses her fame and influence to find President John F. Kennedy’s real killer. Kilgallen’s journey will put her up against the CIA, mafia bosses and the FBI, all who would love nothing more than to make her and this story disappear. Levinson and Sam Bromell co-wrote the screenplay with Mamet.
Assassination is produced by Corey Large and Jason Sosnoff. Large is also financing Assassination.

Over 50 years ago, Sidney Lumet released "Serpico," a powerful indictment of NYPD police corruption that was based on a true story. Decades later, New York's "boys in blue" are still being consistently called out for corruption, but at the time of the film's release in 1973, "Serpico" felt like it might just cause a sea change in the way America — or at least Hollywood — saw its law enforcement systems. "Sidney Lumet's 'Serpico,' the first in what threatens to be an avalanche of movies about policemen, picks up the old cop film and brings it with lights flashing and sirens blaring into the middle of the Watergate era," Vincent Canby wrote in his original review for the New York Times.

The BAFTA Awards — the annual honors bestowed upon the year’s top films and performances by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts — tend to get a lot of attention every year because of where they land on the awards calendar — on the eve of Oscar voting. So ahead, we break down everything you need to know about the BAFTA Awards — who votes, how they vote, and why they matter.
When are the BAFTA Awards?
The 2025 BAFTA Awards take place on Sunday, February 16, 2025, just two days before the final 2025 Oscar winner voting ends. That makes the BAFTA results more important than ever in terms of the Academy Awards – particularly for those Oscar voters who wait until the last minute to cast their ballots and love to back a winner. So does that mean the...

Outside his vaunted Saturday Night Live appearances, Adam Driver’s new Amazon review videos might be the funniest material he’s ever performed. In the spirit of the holidays, the Star Wars, Ferrari, and House of Gucci actor hilariously reenacts real Amazon customer reviews amid a darkened stage adorned with an undulating red curtain, a towering Christmas tree, and an elegant piano. The first Amazon 5-Star Theater review, in which Driver performs as “a real serious actor,” reads as follows (per Amazon):
“What can I say about the banana slicer that hasn’t already been said about the wheel and Penicillin? This is one of the greatest inventions of all time. My husband and I would argue constantly over who had to cut the day’s banana slices. It’s one of those chores no one wants to do.
You know the old, ‘I spent the whole day rearing our children,...

Ridley Scott's bombastic "Gladiator II" has been slicing its way through the box office thank to its incredible cast and people's love for the original film, although critics have been slightly less enamored with the sequel. Our own "Gladiator II" review praised Denzel Washington's performance as gladiator promoter Macrinus in particular and noted that there are a number of impressive action scenes, but also several parts that fall flat. No amount of pure spectacle can make up for a good story or thoughtful filmmaking, and unfortunately, it sounds like Scott might have had the wrong priorities during production.
In a podcast interview with "DocFix" (via WorldofReel), "Gladiator II" cinematographer John Mathieson called Scott's approach to the film "lazy," adding that he had changed over the years that they had worked together. Mathieson has collaborated with Scott on six of the director's films so far, including the original "Gladiator...

Gladiator was always going to be a hard act to follow; after all, it won multiple Oscars shortly after being released in 2000 and has become widely regarded as a true classic among film lovers.
Filmmaker Sir Ridley Scott returned to helm Gladiator II and reviews have been positive; the sequel probably won't be an awards contender but it is a fan-pleasing action flick. However, cinematographer John Mathieson doesn't have anything good to say about his reunion with Scott.
They worked together on Gladiator, along with several of Scott's other movies, including Hannibal, Matchstick Men, Kingdom of Heaven, and Robin Hood.
However, talking on The DocFix Documentary Storytelling Podcast (via ActioNewz.com), Mathieson shared his disappointment with what he saw from Scott during their Gladiator II collaboration.
Explaining that Scott now shoots scenes with multiple cameras, he called the filmmaker's process "really lazy," adding, "It’s the CG [computer graphic] elements now of tidying-up,...

In a new podcast interview with DocFix, John Mathieson, the cinematographer for ‘Gladiator 2,’ expressed strong reservations about Ridley Scott’s recent approach to filmmaking.
Mathieson, who has previously worked with Scott on multiple projects including ‘Gladiator’ and ‘Kingdom of Heaven,’ shared that Scott’s method has significantly shifted, impacting the quality of his films.
According to Mathieson, Scott, at 87, has adopted a more hurried style, frequently using multiple cameras on set which, in his view, compromises the cinematic quality.
He described this technique as detrimental to meticulous cinematography since it restricts lighting options and reduces attention to detail.
Mathieson lamented the loss of depth in scenes, a quality he feels was a hallmark of Scott’s earlier works.
"It's a bit rush rush rush … that's changed in him … I don't like [that style]. I don't think many people do. But people love his films, and he's Ridley Scott … he can do...

Pierfrancesco Favino, who plays Maria Callas’ protective butler in Pablo Larraín’s “Maria,” doesn’t back down from a fight, on-screen or in life.
At last year’s Venice Film Festival, the Rome native erupted with the kind of volcanic indignation that Callas was known for, furious that American actors like “House of Gucci” and “Ferrari” star Adam Driver kept getting cast as iconic Italians. Those parts should have gone to Italian actors, Favino argued at a press conference — though he was quick to add he had nothing against Driver.
With “Maria,” Favino gets the kind of quietly scene-stealing role that could show Hollywood what it’s been missing. In the meditative, slightly surreal drama, he plays Ferruccio, a loyal helpmate who caters to Callas by moving her grand piano around the apartment to whatever window she thinks has the best light that day, despite suffering from a bad back.
