Ahh, Thanksgiving; the time for loved ones to get together with food, cozy sweaters, and killer turkeys... maybe strike that last one for the non-weirdos. There have been a handful of Thanksgiving horror movies over the years, from the cheesy slasher Blood Rage to Eli Roth’s recent slasher whodunit Thanksgiving. Still, Christmas and Halloween have remained the popular holidays for horror flicks. One has remained the choice entrée for horror hounds, though, in terms of turkey-day terror. This, of course, would be the infamous flick from 2008, ThanksKilling.

While there are plenty of Christmas films made for theaters and TV, when it comes to Thanksgiving, the pool is much smaller. That's even more the case for horror films, with the most prominent one up until 2023 being the Troma movie Thankskilling. However, Hostel and Borderlands director Eli Roth decided to fill that void in 2023 by turning his spoof trailer from Grindhouse into an actualized feature film, Thanksgiving.
After a Black Friday sale leads to several civilians being injured and killed, a mysterious slasher in a pilgrim mask targets those involved in the tragedy one year later on Thanksgiving. Roth's acclaimed $46.5 million horror movie was a surprise success and now stands to be a Thanksgiving classic for horror fans. In addition to this, Thanksgiving is also a better representation of Roth's talents as a director than his next film, Borderlands, would be.

The (almost) annual tradition of watching a new V/H/S movie will continue this October with the newly announced seventh film in the franchise V/H/S/Beyond, being released on October 4 on Shudder and AMC+.
Variety exclusively reports that the seventh installment will feature some really exciting collaborations, like the directorial debut of Kate Siegel, best known for starring in projects such as The Fall of the House of Usher, Hush, and The Haunting of Hill House, all of which were created by her husband and frequent collaborator Mike Flanagan.
Siegel's segment in V/H/S/Beyond is titled "Stowaway" and comes from a script she wrote with Flanagan. Barbarian star Justin Long also has a segment in the new film, one he wrote and directed with his brother Christian Long.

The Bloody Disgusting-powered Screambox is home to a variety of unique horror content, from originals and exclusives to cult classics and documentaries. With such a rapidly-growing library, there are many hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
Here are five recommendations you can stream on Screambox right now.
King of the Ants
While Stuart Gordon cemented himself as a master of horror with early works like Re-Animator and From Beyond, his later output is also worthy of exploration. 2003’s King of the Ants kicked off a trio of intense thrillers (alongside Edmond and Stuck) that would end up being Gordon’s final features. It was also one of the first productions from The Asylum, who would go on to create Sharknado, Z Nation, and Black Summer.
Based on the 1992 novel by Charlie Higson, who also wrote the screenplay, the film’s unusual structure makes it unpredictable. Struggling to make ends meet,...

While Thanksgiving is not traditionally associated with horror, there are several Thanksgiving-themed horror movies that range from comedic to intense and gruesome. Some notable Thanksgiving horror movies include Thankskilling, a horror comedy featuring a killer talking turkey, The Oath, a dark political satire about a family gathering turned violent, and Black Friday, a gory horror comedy starring Bruce Campbell. Other Thanksgiving horror movies include The Boneyard, a horror comedy that starts out serious and becomes more ludicrous, Blood Rage, an infamously gruesome Thanksgiving slasher, and Kristy, a terrifying dorm invasion horror movie.

Eli Roth is home for the holidays with enough fiendish fun and ripped flesh to send horror fans to theaters multiple times between now and Thanksgiving.
The “Hostel” director hasn’t touched his signature genre in almost a decade, but he’s been cooking up his latest film with writer Jeff Rendell since they were teenagers — and it’s more than worth the wait. The duo first realized their childhood concept of an eponymous “Thanksgiving” slasher as a fake trailer appearing in Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s “Grindhouse” in 2007. That cinematic morsel immediately stirred up cries for a full-blown adaptation, and for its annual re-watchers, the feature-length “Thanksgiving” is exactly what you’d expect.
Part “Thankskilling,” part “Scream,” this modern horror-comedy is a brilliant retrofitting of the moments you already know and love from the “Grindhouse” version (cheerleader trampoline stab!), serving up the original idea cranked to high heat...

Our collective hunger for fresh Thanksgiving Horror will hopefully be satisfied this week with the release of Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving in theaters, but what other holiday-themed horror movies can you watch to get into the spirit of Thanksgiving in the coming days?

The 2007 film Grindhouse is a bit of an anomaly in the filmography of both Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. A vicious double-feature made as an homage to the era of exploitative filmmaking that rose to prominence in the '70s, Grindhouse was the original vessel for the films Planet Terror and Death Proof to be viewed. Between the two, a handful of trailers for fictional films would play out, each one being so over-the-top they'd probably never see the light of day as an actual movie — minus the ones that did.
Hobo With a Shotgun and Machete were turned into fully-fledged movies, with the latter of which spawning a sequel, Machete Kills. While Rob Zombie and Edgar Wright's shorts, Werewolf Women of the SS and Don't, respectively, haven't yet been expanded, the same cannot be said for Eli Roth's cult hit, Thanksgiving. A new trailer for House Shark, an upcoming low-budget, independent movie that serves as an homage of sorts to Steven Spielberg's Jaws, has arrived online. Most of the time, making any comparison to Jaws is a good thing. In this case, that all depends on your level of appreciation for ultra-low-budget, schlock. House Shark is billed as, "Jaws in a house" and this trailer promises exactly that. Sort of. Just without all of the great effects and expertly crafted tension. That's been replaced with cheap blood, really bad acting and what looks to be a paper mache shark.
The House Shark trailer delivers on the promise of the movie's name, in that, via completely unexplained and mysterious reasoning, this movie centers on a few men who have to deal with a murderous shark that attacks in a house as opposed to the ocean. It also certainly is mirroring Jaws in many ways.

He's induced laughter and chills in previous projects like ThanksKilling, Critters: Bounty Hunter, and Red Weather, but in his latest short film, director Jordan Downey channels the nostalgia of Stranger Things and combines it with the coming-of-age poignancy of early Stephen King stories in Techno Western, which you can watch right now on Daily Dead.
In addition to Techno Western, which you can watch below, we also have a Q&A with Downey that offers more insights into the making of the short film.
"What was the genesis and inspiration for this project?
Jordan Downey: The idea, really, is drawn from my childhood. When I was a kid I would always take my squirt guns and spray paint them to look like some cannon or prop from Star Wars. I’d duct tape flashlights and pocket knives to the barrel and pretend to go “hunting” in the woods for bad guys.

Emerging from a blood-red storm to float over a lush green hillside, the new pilot from director Jordan Downey (creator of the excellent fan film Critters: Bounty Hunter) starts on a deceptively serene note before taking a creepy turn. "Fear is the forecast" for Daily Dead readers, as we have the short pilot episode of Red Weather available to watch now.
Press Release: Fear Is The Forecast in this pilot episode of Red Weather, a horror web series pitch from creator Jordan Downey (Critters: Bounty Hunter, ThanksKilling). Simply put, it’s The Twilight Zone or Tales From the Crypt in under 5 minutes.
Red Weather aims bring a fun, whimsical nature to anthology horror. With a catchy theme song and memorable title sequence, episodes begin in the “bleeding storm” which departs to reveal the setting of each episode. New characters are introduced, often times unknowingly facing an ironic demise.

Any fan of the classic 1980s sci-fi horror film Critters is going to love this fan-made short film created by Jordan Downey. The short is called "Critters: Bounty Hunter," and I think you’ll all be pleasantly surprised by its awesomeness. It’s definitely one of the better fan films in general that I’ve seen. You can tell Downey is a huge fan as it has the same vibe and spirit of the original movies. Here’s a note from the director:
“Call the Bounty Hunters, the Critters are back! Critters: Bounty Hunter marks the return of the carnivorous space creatures made popular by the 1986 classic. The short fan film from director Jordan Downey (ThanksKilling) serves as his pitch for the directing gig on an upcoming web-series from Warner Bros. The Krites first came to the big screen two years after Gremlins, but they didn’t need to be fed after midnight to become evil—they were malevolent little monsters from the get-go in 1986’s Critters and its three sequels. The ferocious furballs are set to make a comeback in an upcoming digital series from Warner Bros., but you can see the return of the Krites right now in a new short fan film, Critters: Bounty Hunter.
Created with a six-person crew and helmed by Jordan Downey, the director of ThanksKilling and ThanksKilling 3, Critters: Bounty Hunter is Downey’s bid for the director’s chair on the digital series, while also serving as an early holiday gift for Critters fans.

Creating a memorable, frightening horror-comedy that at the same time satirizes the amusing humor that famously characterize low-budget, vulgar films can be a difficult task for relatively new filmmakers. But director Jordan Downey and his writing and producing partner Kevin Stewart did just that with their new movie ‘ThanksKilling 3,’ the follow-up to their 2009 feature film debut, ‘ThanksKilling.’ The two worked closely together to continue the story of their infamous villain puppet character from their first film, Turkie, to not only please fans wondering what happened to the trouble-making villain, but to also continue targeting a holiday not previously ruined by horror with cheesy one-liners and jokes. ‘ThanksKilling 3′ [ Read More ]

I’ve seen a lot of goofy and absurd indie horror-comedies in my lifetime but a horror-comedy about a homicidal, foul-mouthed turkey on a killing spree as in ThanksKilling 3 takes the cake without question.
This turkey isn’t just preying on a bunch of kids on thanksgiving though – there’s an offbeat, pretty creative plot at work that sees the titular turkey going into a killing spree after learning that copies worldwide of ThanksKilling 2 were obliterated because it was the worst movie ever – a winking nod for the events to follow, I’d wager.
Meanwhile, there’s also an intriguing plot following a cute puppet named Yomi as she enlists the help of humans and puppets alike to help her search for the missing piece of her mind – yeah, it’s odd but It is actually oddly charming I found.

You didn't really think the Thanksgiving holiday would come and go without a new glimpse at ThanksKilling 3, did you? In other words, don't put this on display for your sweet old grandmother or that impressionable young relative. Back in 2009, an extremely independent Thanksgiving themed horror film was created called ThanksKilling, introducing the world to a foul-mouthed and murderous one-liner serving fowl named Turkie. I caught Jordan Downey’s film streaming on Netflix late one night with an equally open-minded horror fan, and we were completely taken aback by the amature-ish nature of the film. It was like a film school project gone wrong, attempting to make the most crude jokes and terrible dialogue while playing around with a turkey puppet, hoping to achieve “so bad it’s good” fame. I mean sure, Ok, a horror film centered around a demonic turkey with a knack for terrible puns sounded like an entertaining watch at least, as long as you’re a die-hard B-Movie fan, but the intelligence level of ThanksKilling was comparable to an unborn fetus. A downright painful experience for anyone expecting a fun, low-budget horror romp with some demented holiday action.
