Two different characters in The Forge (Cynthia and Elizabeth) look just like actress Priscilla Shirer, making viewers question if she really has a twin sister like in the movie.
After premiering in theaters on August 23, 2024, The Forge was added to the Netflix streaming library on December 21. As of writing, it is in Netflix's Top 10 movies on the platform.
The film, directed by the Kendrick brothers, is set in the same continuity as War Room, another faith-based film that features some of the same characters in The Forge.

The Hunger Games series has become extremely popular and iconic. More than 100 million of the books have been sold, and a sixth movie is currently in development. The dark and thrilling stories in the series have captivated audiences by showing an oppressed society where children are forced to fight each other in televised games.
However, Suzanne Collins, the author of The Hunger Games, didn't just publish the series right as she graduated from college. She began her career in a much different way, writing lighthearted TV shows for children, as well as a few animated movies. While working on the shows, Collins helped get the inspiration she needed to write The Hunger Games.

Why is it that the brightest stars sometimes fade the quickest? It’s with a heavy heart that we process the sudden loss of Liam Payne, whose death has left many in deep shock. At 31, the former member of One Direction passed away on October 16 after a fall from the third floor of the Casa Sur Hotel in Argentina, leaving behind his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, and his son, Bear, whom he shared with ex-partner Cheryl Cole.

Payne and Cole’s relationship, which began in 2016, may have been short-lived, but it was undeniably impactful. Their romance faced its share of challenges, ultimately leading to their split in 2018 after the birth of their son in 2017. In reflecting on their breakup, Payne expressed a deep sense of responsibility while maintaining respect for the 3 Words hitmaker.

The first night Liam Payne ever did a headlining solo show, the first One Direction song he sang was a deep cut: “History.” It’s not the most famous 1D song, but it’s one of their most direct statements about the bond they shared with their audience. Liam surprised the crowd with it on that first night, at New York’s Beacon Theatre in June 2018, complete with a video montage of One Direction over the years, as he sang, “You and me got a whole lot of history/We...

With $92 million this weekend, domestic gross for August should equal 2023 or come close for the first time since March. Holdovers get the credit: Three new wide releases grossed $19 million total, for about 20 percent of the weekend’s gross.
“Blink Twice” (Amazon MGM), the directorial debut of Zoë Kravitz and starring Channing Tatum, did best. to place fourth, with an underwhelming $7.3 million. With a cost of $20 million and Amazon streaming ahead, this edgy story of a billionaire hosting a group of young women at his island hideout at least got enough attention to elevate interest, despite a not entirely strong start in theaters.
Last week’s top two Disney titles swapped places. “Deadpool & Wolverine,” dropping only 39 percent in week five, took in $18.3 million for $577 million domestic, far above expectations and the best Marvel title since “Avengers: Endgame.” It projects to $625 million-$640 million, which will make it #2 for the summer behind...

This week, the “Dog Days of Summer” will be put to the test, with nothing new on the scale of “Alien: Romulus” or other big franchise movies from earlier in the summer. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
That term, which also represents the heat and humidity typical of August, comes from the fact that many studios will randomly dump their movies into the latter part of August in hopes of getting them off their roster before the fall. The weekend just before Labor Day has always historically been proof of that fact, with a scant few exceptions.
This weekend offers two new genre movies that may have done better at any other time of the year, but will be struggling against the returning fare, including “Alien: Romulus,” which should win the weekend despite a significant drop, probably to less than $20 million.

Oi there, listen up! Amazon Prime Video’s list of new releases for June 2024 includes another season of its biggest, bloodiest hit.
The Boys season 4 premieres its first three episodes on Thursday, June 13. Based on the trailers, The Boys is really leaning into the political side of its social satire with a presidential election underway and Homelander on trial for the small matter of killing a guy last season. The season will continue to air on Thursdays, culminating with the finale on July 18.
Amazon is really leaning into its sports offerings this month as well. Fans will get to watch the New York Yankees, the WNBA, and the Nwsl several times throughout June. That’s in addition to a couple of sports docs: Power of the Dream on June 18 and Federer: Twelve Final Days on June 20.

Update, 2:20Pm: Disney/Lucasfilm’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny officially wins Tuesday with $11.698M over Sound of Freedom‘s reported $11.5M. Monday revised on Dial of Destiny was $11.7M, which means business was even on July 4th; and that’s solid for any tentpole on that holiday. 5-day on Dial of Destiny is $83.7M.
Previous: Angels Studios’ Jim Caviezel thriller Sound of Freedom, came on strong Tuesday and gave Disney/Lucasfilm’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny a run for its money at the domestic box office. However, until actuals are reported, it remains to be seen who won on July 4th, with both distributors reporting $11.5 million.

There’s George Foreman the boxer and George Foreman the grill. The Sony biopic out this Friday offers a different George. “I want to spread the word of God,” says Foreman (Khris Davis) in the trailer for “Big George Foreman: The Miraculous Story of the Once and Future Heavyweight Champion of the World.”
It’s a production from faith-based Sony Pictures’ label Affirm Films. Its first film in 2008, “Fireproof” starring Kirk Cameron, grossed $33 million on a $500,000 budget. To date, the (mostly domestic) global theatrical gross for Affirm titles stands at $520 million — $400 million more than the films’ total production costs.
Directed by George Tillman Jr. and with Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker in a supporting role, “Foreman” may represent the biggest Affirm budget to date. (One source lists it at $34 million.) Prior Affirm budgets topped out at $20 million. It’s also got one of Affirm’s biggest releases, with 2,575 theaters.
Opening prospects are unclear.

One day in 2014, “N—– in Paris” producer Hit-Boy started working with Beyoncé on two songs. One of them, released later that year, became the hit Nicki Minaj collaboration “Feeling Myself.”

Listening to Louis Tomlinson’s solo debut, Walls, is a bit like hanging out with the high school quarterback who stayed in his hometown after the rest of his class moved away. It wistfully brings to mind One Direction’s glory days, grown faded around the edges by time. The quarterback is still charming, his tales still rousing, but you kind of hope maybe, next year, he’ll move on — he’s certainly talented enough to do so.
It’s hard stepping out of the boy band formula, for sure.

Christian movies are ready to cross over. Fourteen years have passed since “The Passion of the Christ” became a national sensation, and while no one has managed to match the hysteria that greeted Mel Gibson’s New Testament snuff film, companies like Pure Flix and Mission Pictures International have cultivated a lucrative cottage industry of cinema for the Focus on the Family crowd. Over and over again, these religious offerings have surprised box office pundits and raked in blockbuster numbers, with everyone from Pat Robertson to Joel Osteen spreading the good word in an effort to close the gap between megachurches and multiplexes.
“Heaven Is for Real,” the inspirational story of a little boy who once died for a few minutes, gross $93 million in the United States. “Fireproof,” in which Kirk Cameron plays a porn-addicted fireman, earned $33 million off a $500,000 budget. “God’s Not Dead,” a 2014 Kevin Sorbo vehicle about...

Faith-based films, while lacking the advertising budgets of bigger titles, often overperform at the box office. Last year, the religious sports drama “Slamma Jamma” grossed over $1 million from 502 theaters, and titles like “Fireproof,” “Courageous,” and “War Room” all grossed over $30 million in recent years, according to Box Office Mojo. “God’s Not Dead” even spawned a franchise after the first installment opened to $9 million from 780 theaters and finished its run with $60 million. This year, “I Can Only Imagine” seems poised to carry on the tradition, as a robust ad campaign on television and online is building buzz about the biopic.
“I Can Only Imagine” is based on the story behind the song of the same name by Christian rock band MercyMe. The Texas-based group released the song in 2001 and it became a rare crossover hit, selling 2.5 million copies to become the best-selling Christian single of all time. The National lead singer Matt Berninger is currently developing a TV show based on his own life, according to Pitchfork. Following the “Crashing”/”Better Things”/”I’m Sorry” mold, Berninger would play a version of himself, as would his brother Tom. Working alongside Trent O’Donnell (creator of “No Activity” and the original Australian series that formed the basis for “Review”), the creative team for this new Berninger show would also include Matt’s wife Carin Besser.
What this show doesn’t have yet is a title. Since there’s a .001% chance it doesn’t take the name from one of The National’s songs, we thought we’d offer up our ideas for the series’ best prospective titles. After a dismal outing over the Labor Day holiday weekend, the box office started to show signs of life again, with The Perfect Guy fending off The Visit in a very close race. The Perfect Guy took in $26.7 million over the weekend, with The Visit just behind it in second place with $25.6 million. Since these estimates are so close to each other, it's possible these results could change when the actual box office figures are announced on Monday, but, for now The Perfect Guy has the top spot, according to the estimates at Box Office Mojo.

It's pretty rare for a movie to rise from second place to first at the box office in its second week of release. It's pretty rare for such a movie to defeat a summer smash that's topped the chart for three weeks running. And it's pretty rare for a low-budget, Christian-themed movie with a star-free cast to become the top-grossing film in North America.
And yet, "War Room" did all three of those things this week. After last weekend's impressive $11.4 million debut in the No. 2 slot, the film rose to the top spot this weekend with an estimated $9.4 million from Friday to Sunday (and a projected $12.3 million over the four-day holiday weekend). It dethroned previous three-time champ "Straight Outta Compton" (No. 2, with an estimated $8.9 million from Friday to Sunday and $11.2 million over the Labor Day holiday). The hip-hop biopic is the first film to sit atop the Us box office charts for three weekends in a row since Jurassic World
For the third weekend in a row, hip-hop biopic Straight Outta Compton dominated at the Us box office, earning an impressive $13.2m (£8.6m) – pushing its domestic total to a whopping $134.1m (£87.3m), making it the highest-grossing musical biopic of all time, according to Variety. It’s also the first film to top the Us box office for three consecutive weekends since Jurassic World.
Despite Straight Outta Compton’s continued success, the real story at the American box office this weekend was the surprise showing of War Room, a low-budget, religious-themed drama from Alex Kendrick and his brother, writing and producing partner Stephen Kendrick, the pair behind Fireproof and Courageous (Variety dubbed them the Spielbergs of Christian cinema). Made for a mere $3m, the faith-based film shot...

As expected, Universal Pictures' runaway hit Straight Outta Compton secured its third straight win at the box office this weekend, taking in $13.2 million. The big surprise, though, was the over-performing faith-based drama War Room, which earned second place with an estimated $11 million, according to Box Office Mojo, out-grossing major studio new releases No Escape and We Are Your Friends (which didn't even crack the top 10), with far less publicity and advertisement. Neither movie was expected to put up huge numbers, considering the last weekend of the summer movie season is always light on box office returns, but War Room's performance is still impressive, nonetheless.

With $13.2M in domestic box office Universal's Straight Outta Compton held off the upstart War Room to claim the #1 position on the charts for the third weekend in a row. War Room, which beat Compton in theaters on Friday, made $11M with a robust $9,692 per screen average. The top of the heap was still a pretty low heap, however, as the top 12 made $68.8M, off 22% from last year's $88.2M, which was a weak weekend itself. That $68.8M also gives this frame the dubious distinction of being the lowest grossing weekend of the year, 12% lower than March 6 - 8th's $78.3M. The newcomers that helped achieve that feat included No Escape, the Owen Wilson/Pierce Brosnan military coup flick, which the Weinsteins state came in just a little under their $9M estimate with $8.3M. On 2,470 screens that $3,355 psa is better than the $2,850 that last year's late-August Pierce Brosnan movie offering, The November Man,...

'War Room' movie: The Power of Prayer. Gary Gray's Straight Outta Compton, at the North American box office. As long as studio estimates are on target, that miracle has (sort of) happened. Praise the Power of Prayer and the Power of Expert Targeted Marketing. “If you haven't started already, pray for this movie,” urges an Evangelical Christian website featuring a War Room promotional giveaway, “that the Holy Spirit would be in abundance at each showing of the film, that hearts would be impressed to pray more than ever and that revival will happen as a result!” Directed by Alex Kendrick and co-written by Kendrick and his brother, Stephen Kendrick, the Power of...

Brothers Alex and Stephen Kendrick's faith-based empire is determined to convert religious-centric film doubters to believers through consistent box office success, as witnessed by War Room's $11 million debut this weekend. Despite playing in only 1,135 theaters, War Room placed No. 2 behind Straight Outta Compton, which grossed $13.2 million from 3,142 locations. The prayer-themed film marks the highest debut for the siblings, and their fifth collaboration after Courageous (2011), Fireproof (2008) and Facing the Giants (2006). Their first movie, Flywheel, was released on DVD in 2003. All of their projects have gone out

Another faith based movie came out of "nowhere" to shock Hollywood at the box office on Friday. That's narrative you'll see in most stories about "War Room's" performance, but it may be more about the entertainment media ignoring the consistent performances of faith based movies more than anything else. "War Room," which was distributed by Sony Pictures division TriStar Pictures, took in $3.875 million on its first day to knock "Straight Outta Compton" from the top spot for the first time in 15 days. "Room" was directed and co-written by Alex Kendrick whose last two films, "Courageous" and "Fireproof," each earned over $33 million during their theatrical runs. Moreover, "Room" looks like it will slightly exceed the $9.1 million "Courageous" earned over its first three days in 2011. As with all of Kendrick's productions, the marketing is aimed at churches and religious groups on a grass roots level which flows under the radar for those covering the biz.

'Straight Outta Compton' poster. Weekend box office: 'Straight Outta Compton' to beat weak competitors, but still far from being top blockbuster directed by black filmmaker If you thought last weekend was bad at the U.S. and Canada box office, you should see what's in store for this weekend, Aug. 28-30, '15. For starters, only one movie, F. Gary Gray's sleeper hit Straight Outta Compton, is expected to earn more than $10 million. The rest – and that includes Zac Efron, Owen Wilson, Pierce Brosnan, and the Power of (Christian) Prayer – will perform quite powerlessly indeed. In case Straight Outta Compton reaches the box office gurus' estimated $15 million, it will get close to the $140 million mark. Bear in mind there's no guarantee that will happen; despite basically no competition, the drop-off rate of Gray's hip hopping film was steeper than expected last weekend. (See updated weekend box office estimates.) Now, some...

Newcomers this weekend are performing as expected in what is anticipated to be a weak, end-of-summer three-day. Three new films are competing for moviegoers in the final weekend before Labor Day, and the faith-based War Room from Fireproof director Alex Kendrick is leading the new entries so far to pull in (as it looks now) around $3.6M or so today after grabbing $600K from over 1,000 theaters last night. Not surprising as it is a PG player, but the R-rated audience for…...

The last week in August is not a prime movie release slot, but there’s one new opener on Friday that is primed to exceed expectations: “War Room,” the latest Christian-themed feature by Georgia-based filmmakers Alex and Stephen Kendrick. The brothers have emerged as the most commercially successful independent producers of faith-based films. Their last three previous movies — 2006’s “Facing the Giants,” 2008’s “Fireproof,” which was the highest-grossing indie that year, and 2011’s “Courageous” — have taken in $87 million at the box office on a combined budget of $2.6 million. “War Room,” with a more ambitious $3 million budget, is on track...

Forecast Update: Looks like that headline, "'Compton' Three-peats," should have had a question mark behind it. Sony is reporting that War Room, the faith-based film from the Kendrick brothers, made $3.87M in Friday receipts while Universal reports that Straight Outta Compton made $3.83M. It may not be enough to take the weekend though as Sony is also projecting that War Room makes $10 - $10.5M by Sunday night. Universal places Compton at $12.3M. War Room's per screen average for Friday was $3,414 on 1,135 screens. That's close to the psa that Freestyle Releasing's Christian-themed God's Not Dead made last year in March when its Friday hit $2.8M on 780 screens, an average of $3,592 per. God's Not Dead, which ended the weekend with $9.2M and an eventual $60.8M domestic cume, opened in 4th on the charts but was in a much more crowded and competitive frame. Divergent, for example, was #1 with $54.6M that weekend.

In the week that possibly the biggest teaser trailer of the year hits (for Star Wars: The Force Awakens), a new science-fiction film takes to the very same dunes featured in the classic Return of the Jedi – as actress and producer Tracey Birdsall’s new film Robot Fighter is currently lensing on many of the same locations as Jedi; notably the Salton Sea, Yuma, Arizona.
Robot Fighter isn’t without its Star Wars ties, thematically either. Director Neil Johnson’s space chronicle fixes on the overthrow of humanity by Artificial Intelligence and the determined rebel who goes up against the droid empire.
Starring alongside Birdsall is Star Trek III : The Search for Spock’s Stephen Manley, Daz Crawford (Blade II), Livvy Stubenrauch (Frozen), Erin Bethea (Fireproof), Tim McGrath, Ashley Park and Aaron Jacques.
Robot Fighter, the first in a potential new sci-fi series, will be released in 2016.

Nearly 20 years after moviegoers were first introduced to Harry and Lloyd, the pair of morons once again ruled the box office this weekend.Long-awaited sequel Dumb and Dumber To opened to $36.1 million, which was enough to take first place away from strong holdover Big Hero 6.The Top 12 earned $129.6 million this weekend, which is up nine percent from the same weekend last year. Dumb and Dumber To's $36.1 million is the biggest live-action debut for Jim Carrey since 2003's Bruce Almighty, and is also the best opening ever for the Farrelly Brothers. Among recent comparable titles, it's a bit lower than the five-day openings for Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues ($39.5 million) and We're the Millers ($37.9 million), and is a step above recent road trip comedies Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa ($32.1 million) and Identity Thief ($32.1 million). The original Dumb and Dumber was a massive box office hit back in 1994, and developed legions...

In theaters this November, just in time for Thanksgiving, former teen heartthrob turned evangelical ministry and entertainment founder Kirk Cameron returns to the big screen with the holiday comedy Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas. After finding huge box office success with his Left Behind franchise and the marriage drama Fireproof, Kirk Cameron is back with a thoughtful look at age-old Christmas traditions and their place in the new social media age where everyone is offended by everything. In fact, while this is intended to be a family film, you may even be offended by this trailer (fair warning)! Watch as Kirk sets out to restore some balance in his family's life as the weight of December begins to bear down upon him in unexpected and challenging ways.
This Christmas, have your family join with Kirk Cameron's family and dive headfirst into all the dancing, celebration, feasting, imagination, and traditions...

Do you ever feel like Christmas has been hijackedc There's all that commercialism and people that want to replace "Merry Christmas" with "Happy Holidays" or "Season's Greetings"... whatever that means... This is the start of what you are about to witness. I saw the poster for Kirk Cameron's new movie Saving Christmas earlier today, but held off on posting it, but now that the trailer has been released there is no sense in holding back any longer. The tagline alone - "Putting Christ Back in Christmas" - is ridiculous enough, but to know the film follows Cmaeron's attempt to convince his friend, who just so happens to be named Christian, the real spirit of Christmas has not disappeared is a bit too much for me to handle. Then you watch the trailer and, well, see for yourself. By the way, Mr. Cameron, "Happy Holidays" and "Season's Greetings" mean exactly what they sound like.

That’s the promise Kirk Cameron’s made with his latest film, Kirk Cameron’s Saving Christmas, which Samuel Goldwyn Films has set for a November 14 limited theatrical release. Cameron stars in the film which regrounds the Christmas tradition in its Biblical roots and is the first title in a new three-picture deal his Camfam Studios has struck with Sony Music Entertainment’s Nashville-based Provident Films. Saving Christmas also marks a re-teaming of Cameron and Samuel Goldwyn, which scored a $33 million hit with Christian audiences on his 2008 film Fireproof.

Growing Pains star Jeremy Miller recently opened up about his battle with alcoholism and the medical implant he says has helped keep him sober.
Jeremy Miller Talks About Alcoholism
Miller starred as Ben Seaver, the youngest son in the Seaver family, on Growing Pains from 1985 to 1992, and took some time away from acting after the show ended. Instead, Miller reveals he began binge drinking after the show ended. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Miller says he would start every day with a trip to the liquor store and drink until he passed out.
At his lowest moments, Miller admitted that he considered suicide, saying, “There were probably a few nights it was awful close. I’m glad I did not own a gun, because I hated myself so thoroughly, I would have done something very stupid.”

I'm not even sure the biggest story of the weekend is Divergent seeming to prove it's the first young adult franchise since The Hunger Games to prove profitable, though the "A" CinemaScore certainly has me questioning the intelligence of today's movie going audience once again. Instead it would seem the biggest surprise is God's Not Dead coming out of nowhere with $9.2 million and a third place finish. I hadn't even heard of the film until Saturday morning. Goes to show how much I'm paying attention to the faith-based movie market. It's probably best just to begin at the top and with Divergent, which brought in $54.6 million from 3,936 theaters. With an $85 million budget it still has some work to do and I'm really curious to see how it does overseas where it will open in the UK, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Mexico and Finland on April 4, and there are some things to...

In the same week that we learned about an Ernest reboot, we've now been given an even more appropriate sign of the impending apocalypse: the Left Behind series is also getting a reboot. What's even weirder is the fact that Nicolas Cage is reportedly in talks to headline the film. (Okay... maybe that's not so weird.) Based on the popular series of Christian books by Tim Lahaye and Jerry Jenkins, the original Left Behind trilogy starred former Growing Pains heartthrob Kirk Cameron in the lead role. The story revolves around survivors left behind on Earth after The Rapture who are forced to take on the Anti-Christ. But will Cage be playing the Kirk Cameron role or the Anti-Christ? Hopefully the latter. According to Variety, the project is being set up by Paul Lalonde, former head of St. Catharines-based production company Cloud Ten Pictures. Cloud Ten produced the previous trilogy, so...

Kirk Cameron's Fireproof warned of the way that pornography is contributing to the dissolution of the American family, but strangely, no one took that movie very seriously. So the Christian movie industry will try again with Harmless—this time using the "found-footage" aesthetic that today's horror audiences respond to, in hopes that the visceral, vérité quality of the film will communicate the very real horrors of constantly whacking it. Indeed, perhaps you will see something of yourself in the film's otherwise-decent family man whose supposedly "harmless" box o' porn turns out to be anything but, because ...

"It seemed that perhaps the Lord was in this," Kirk Cameron (not Kurt Cameron) told Baptist Press. The Lord was in on what? From the beginning: A couple of weeks ago, Cameron landed in ungodly hot waters after making several anti-gay remarks on Piers Morgan's CNN talk show. While chatting with Morgan, he referred to homosexuality as "unnatural" and affirmed that it is "ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization." Following his comments, Cameron was taken to task by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation and several of his fellow show-businessmen and women, including former Growing Pains co-stars Alan Thicke ("I'm getting him some new books. The Old Testament simply can't be expected to explain everything.") and Tracy Gold ("I am a strong supporter of the #Lgbt Community, and I believe in equal rights for all. #NOH8 #Love.") Though not thrilled that he is now widely perceived as a bigot,...

Kirk Cameron's recent anti-gay remarks on Piers Morgan's CNN talk show have become the target of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) and of anti-bigots everywhere. On Piers Morgan Tonight last Friday, Cameron, a Fundamentalist Christian, referred to homosexuality as "unnatural" and affirmed that it is "ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization." Cameron also stated he was against marriage equality, i.e., gay marriage, and that if one of his sons came out to him, Cameron would teach him that "there are all sorts of issues that we need to wrestle through in our life. And just because you feel one way doesn't mean we should act on everything we feel." Responding to Cameron's remarks on Twitter, Alan Thicke, who played Cameron's father in the popular 1980s television series Growing Pains, wrote: "I'm getting him some new books. The Old Testament simply can't be expected to explain everything.
