The Acolyte, also known as Star Wars: The Acolyte, is one of the Disney+ TV series set in the Star Wars franchise. The series premiered in 2024 with strong reviews, but it was soon plagued by criticism and became the subject of review bombing and accusations of "woke" culture.
Even with its cancelation, the actors have continued to voice their support for the series. The series faced an extensive fan campaign for its diversity, and Disney eventually canceled the series. Following a new Collider article highlighting the demand for The Acolyte Season 2, star Rebecca Henderson further voiced her support for the sci-fi show on Instagram Stories.

Some characters in Avatar: The Last Airbenderare written to be funny or sweet, such as Katara and her Avatar friend Aang, while others are meant to be cool badasses, including heroes and villains. Characters like them don't want to be seen as cuddy and fun — they would rather impress everyone with their hardcore feats of strength and their tough attitudes, which is what they are usually known for.
Badass characters in anime series like Avatar: The Last Airbender tend to be rebellious or independent-minded, using their strength of will and bending arts to forge their own destiny rather than be someone else's pawn. Such badass characters might get along with a team or belong to a group, but they also stand strong on their own and survive with sheer badassery. It's little wonder some of the most badass characters in Avatar: The Last Airbender tend to proactively shape the plot...

Tamil-language cinema superstar Vijay’s highly anticipated cinematic farewell, “Jana Nayagan,” has officially locked its global theatrical release for Jan. 9, 2026, positioning the film for a dominant run during the lucrative Makar Sankranti and Pongal holiday corridor.
Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by Kvn Productions, “Jana Nayagan” (which translates to “The People’s Leader”) marks a significant milestone as Vijay’s final on-screen appearance before his previously announced retirement from acting in order to join politics. The strategic release date places the film just days ahead of the Pongal festival, historically a lucrative period for Tamil cinema.
The timing appears calculated to maximize box office potential, with the film benefiting from a five-day festive weekend and the massive draw of Vijay’s farewell performance.
The actor has previously dominated this holiday window with several hits throughout his career. It began with the 2007 breakout “Pokkiri” and 2011’s “Kaavalan.” In 2014’s “Jilla...

Did Jason Isaacs try to steal from Harry Potter sets? (Photo Credit – Prime Video)
There was a certain mischief that lurked behind the grandeur of the Harry Potter sets, an unspoken game of sneaky souvenir hunting that added another layer of excitement to the magic behind the scenes.
Jason Isaacs, the man who brought the formidable Lucius Malfoy to life, found himself at the center of one such failed heist. It wasn’t a vault at Gringotts he attempted to rob, but something far simpler, a prop that had become an extension of his on-screen persona. His elegant walking stick, a symbol of Malfoy’s aristocratic menace, had grown on him over time.
It was no surprise that he wanted to keep it but the attempt, however, was short-lived. Caught in the act, he was left empty-handed and that was just the beginning of his prop-related woes.

After The Matrix made Carrie-Anne Moss a household name, she was offered a wave of major Hollywood roles. However, at the time, the actor opted to turn them down.
Speaking to The Independent, Moss said she decided to step away from acting to focus on raising her family. "After The Matrix was such a big deal, I took a big, big break to have children and be with them," she said. "I remember being torn, having a little twinge like, 'Gosh, I’m getting offered such great things. That would be such a huge deal.' And I was holding my baby in my arms, and I remember thinking, 'At the end of my life, will it matter to me that I have another movie on my résumé? Or will it matter to me that I held my baby?' And I instantly thought, no. It was just a no-brainer.

Lee Jung-jae's role in The Acolyte may provide the blueprint to make Squid Game season 2 surpass the original. Enhancing Gi-hun's complexity in season 2 can elevate the show and capitalize on season 1's emotional depth. Lee Jung-jae's success in Squid Game and The Acolyte could turn him into a true international star.
It will be very hard for Squid Game season 2 to be better than the original, but Lee Jung-jae's latest TV show may have proven that it's possible. Lee Jung-jae, the actor who played Seong Gi-hun in Squid Game, is set to return for season 2 of the Netflix show. Now that Squid Game season 2's release date has been announced, the challenge has been to make the new season live up to or even surpass the first one in terms of quality. It seems like a very difficult feat, but one of Lee's previous shows may be the key to accomplishing it.

The master-servant culture is deeply inhumane. It creates suffering and inequality and robs people of their dignity and freedom. It’s just unjust and morally wrong. The Netflix series Master of the House is based on this theme, and for the most part, it really reminded me of the movie Parasite. At the start of the series, a billionaire diamond merchant named Roongroj Thevasatitpaisarn died. But who did it? Maybe it was his arrogant sons, Phupat or Mavin, who are full of themselves. Their father was never happy with them and thinks they’re a disgrace, no matter what they did. Maybe that’s why he got killed, as an outburst of their pent-up anger? Or maybe it was the servants in their house who might have had enough of all the torture. They are forced to do so many things and treated cruelly just because they are poor and helpless.

The Acolyte is centered around the story of two sisters, Osha and Mae, who are not really sisters but the result of a phenomenon called the vergence, which was allegedly accessed by their “mother,” Aniseya. While the use of Force was limited to the Jedi, a coven of witches, called the Nightsisters, decided to settle in Brendok and wield the Force the way they wanted to. This was reason enough for a group of Jedi, which consisted of Sol, Indara, Kelnacca, and Torbin, to wreak havoc and aggravate an already volatile situation. This led to the death of the entire coven and the separation of Osha and Mae. While Osha grew up under Sol’s watchful eye, Mae’s grief and hatred festered in the company of a Sith called Qimir. But, after the midway point of the show, there was a switch as Osha learned the truth about her...

The Acolyte Episode 5 shocked audiences with its ruthless dispatch of Jedis. Showrunner Leslye Headland told Entertainment Weekly this was a necessary and logical outcome for both the Jedis and for Qimir (played by Manny Jacinto), who is revealed as the show's Big Bad. "You understand one aspect of the killing is that it's so shocking, but then [the Stranger] does explain it," she explained. "He says, 'They see my face, they all have to die.'" What made Jacinto's big reveal more shocking was his portrayal of Qimir as an unlikely villain. Headland confirmed how that expectation played into Jacinto's casting early on.

This week’s episode of ‘The Acolyte’ significantly improved various aspects of the series. The story progressed, featuring impressive action scenes, and some previously feared canon-breaking elements now seem less likely to occur.
The episode faced less backlash than usual, with some fans who previously disliked the show experiencing a minor change of heart, largely due to the captivating action sequences and the show’s unexpectedly brutal direction.
Following the release of Episode 5, ‘The Acolyte’ saw a modest improvement in audience ratings, gaining one point on Rotten Tomatoes and a slight boost in its IMDb score. However, this wasn’t enough to attract the key metric: viewers.
According to Variety’s Luminate data, the show experienced a 31% drop in “minutes watched” between June 13 and June 20. Some fans defended the decline, attributing it to Episode 4’s shorter runtime. While this argument holds some weight, it doesn’t fully explain the significant drop.

Disney’s new Star Wars project, The Acolyte has been streaming on Disney+ since June 4, 2024, and despite all the controversies and review-bombing, the series is still one of the most talked about shows in the world, as the fans are going crazy over each new episode, especially after several moments in the series broke the canon. The Sega Master System is a peculiar part of video game history. It was middling compared to its contemporaries. Not a major success but not the most laughable failure. Not the greatest console of the time but not the worst either. On paper, it was technically superior to the Nes, but it was also inferior where it counted (like library and third-party support). A huge step up from the Sg-1000, but completely overshadowed by the Sega Genesis.
There was little tangible identity to the Master System. It was the other console you could get, and that was it. It lacked the energy of the Nes or the attitude of the Genesis. It was simply run-of-the-mill. Yet…it found life beyond expectations. In its own unorthodox way, it lived on far longer than many realized.
What games truly defined Sega’s second console through the years? Let’s take a look.

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ premiered several weeks ago, and it’s been quite chaotic. The show and its story seem secondary as fans criticize the messages it promotes.
So far, the show has introduced several gay characters and one possibly non-binary character. While it’s plausible that anything is possible in a galaxy far, far away, and discussing characters’ sexual orientations in a show not focused on that might seem irrelevant, fans are still protesting.
Episode 3 was very controversial because it introduced a group of witches who can reproduce using the Force without men. The two “mothers” of Osha and Mae also seem to be romantically involved. In episode 4, there’s an awkward interaction between Dafne Keen’s Jecki Lon and Amandla Stenberg’s Osha. The scene is intentionally written that way, showing Jecki Lon’s teenage shyness, hinting that there’s more to her words than just admiration for Master Sol’s former Padawan.

Russell Crowe has had a long career with few regrets. Mostly while speaking to British GQ for this month’s cover story, however, Crowe expressed deep satisfaction with the onscreen side of his life, and even pushed back at assertions that he’s mostly remembered now for one role as a Roman general in Gladiator.

One of the most interesting aspects of the Star Wars galaxy is the relationships between the characters. Romances like those between Han Solo and Leia or Kanan and Hera provide a look at the prevailing nature of love in the face of such horrific evil. Friendships, such as C-3P0 and R2-D2, add a bit of levity to the darker moments in the franchise, thus serving as a constant reminder that there is always something to smile about even in the most dreadful hours.
However, one of the most important dynamics in the universe is that between a Master and a Padawan. They take many forms - some are more like siblings, some like parents and their children, and even more are simply best friends. Regardless, some of the most crucial relationships in Star Wars originated as Masters and their apprentices, so let's take a look at the ten best in the franchise's history.

Disney’s new Star Wars project, The Acolyte, premiered on Disney+ on June 4, 2024, with two episodes. Despite all the controversies and review bombing, it remains one of the most talked-about shows right now. Critics are generally satisfied, seeing a lot of potential in the series, while fans are divided—some love it, and others hate it. The latter group mostly consists of those who dislike the so-called “woke” content, which seems unreasonable. Regardless of where you stand on that issue, all fans agree that the opening scene was a complete shocker. Showrunner Leslye Headland was asked to explain this surprising moment.
Spoiler alert! For those who haven’t seen it yet, the shocking scene involves the death of Master Indara (played by Carrie-Anne Moss), which happens before the show even starts. She fights Mae but is struck down. Fans worry this might be the last they see of Master Indara,...

Your browser does not support the video tag. Unlike other Siths, Count Dooku was motivated by a desire for a peaceful galaxy, not hatred or fear. Dooku believed that both the Jedi and Sith were corrupt and wanted to destroy them. Dooku's vision for the Empire was to eliminate corruption and negotiate with Force users, but he was manipulated by Darth Sidious.
In the Star Wars movie prequels, Christopher Lee suited up as the villainous Count Dooku, who played a pivotal role in Anakin Skywalker's fall to the dark side. While Dooku was certainly evil -- and even had a Darth sobriquet, Tyranus, that he rarely used -- he was never quite a Sith, at least not in the true sense. Unlike those who espoused the Sith doctrine, Dooku wasn't motivated by hatred or fear but by the same purpose that drove him as a Jedi. Dooku even tried...

Deadpool & Wolverine's marketing campaign will continue ramping up in the coming weeks and the first TV spot for the movie has found its way online today.
There's only one new scene as a drunk Logan "boops" the Merc with the Mouth during that scene in the bar. This is presumably their first meeting, and likely the moment Wade Wilson attempts to recruit a Wolverine Variant who can help him with his mission for the Tva.
While we're pretty sure that's the only fresh addition to this teaser, more snippets of footage are bound to be revealed soon. Over the weekend, Marvel Studios dropped a minute-long teaser featuring Juggernaut and Lady Deadpool.
That can be found at the bottom of this post; in the meantime, check out Deadpool & Wolverine's first TV spot below.

Hey, it worked for Barbie.
Mattel’s next feature film based on a doll will be a live-action, theatrical Monster High movie written and produced by Akiva Goldsman and distributed by Universal Pictures. The gist of the Monster High fashion-doll line is that they are the children of iconic monsters, like Frankie Stein (the daughter of Frankenstein’s monster and his bride), Draculaura (the daughter of Dracula), and Clawdeen Wolf (the daughter of a werewolf mom and a human dad).
Goldsman’s banner Weed Road will produce the film. Goldsman, the Academy Award-winning screenwriter of “A Beautiful Mind,” is also a producer on Mattel Films’ upcoming Major Matt Mason movie starring Tom Hanks. The announcement of that toy adaptation, which is set up at Paramount Pictures, preceded “Barbie.”
Kevin McKeon and Arturo Thur De Koos will oversee the Monster High movie for Mattel; Greg Lessans has oversight for Weed Road.

Warning! This post contains Spoilers for Star Wars: The Acolyte Episodes 1 & 2
Vernestra Rwoh in The Acolyte looks to be a key predecessor to Mace Windu, during the High Republic with the implication in The Acolyte that she holds the revered title of "Master of the Order." Master of the Order holds high authority among the Jedi Council, making decisions and guiding the Jedi Order as a whole. Vernestra Rwoh and Mace Windu share similarities beyond their roles, including unique lightsabers and fighting styles.
The Acolyte's Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh may be one of the coolest Jedi I've seen in years, especially with the reveal that she exists as a key predecessor to Mace Windu from the prequel films. Played by Rebecca Henderson, Vernestra Rwoh was a Mirialan Jedi Master during the High Republic Era, an age of peace and prosperity set hundreds of years before the events of The Phantom Menace.

Stars: Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Carrie-Anne Moss | Created by Leslye Headland
Total number of episodes: 8 Episodes watched for review: 2
Created by Leslye Headland (the TV talent behind Russian Doll), The Acolyte is an eight part Star Wars TV series that marks a significant break from the spin-off material we’ve seen so far. For one thing, it’s set 100 years before the events of The Phantom Menace, meaning that slavish fan service can (hopefully) be kept to a minimum. And for another, the fact that the series is essentially positioned as a murder mystery shows a welcome attempt to play around with genre in the Star Wars universe, something that has arguably been a long time coming.
The show opens in style, with Carrie-Anne Moss’ Jedi Master Indara facing off against a would-be assassin who turns out to be equally proficient in the ways of the Force.

Unlike The Matrix, Carrie-Anne Moss prepared alone for the new Star Wars show, finding a new level of strength and containment. Moss's character, Jedi Master Indara, engages in an exciting lightsaber duel with a striking control of emotions and the Force. The trailers so far have shown Indara to be one of the most intriguing new Jedi characters.
The Acolyte star Carrie-Anne Moss discusses the differences in training for her new show compared to The Matrix. Moss first starred in the sci-fi favorite movie in 1999 and appeared in the sequels, including 2021s The Matrix Resurrections. Shell be appearing in Star Wars new show The Acolyte, which visits the Star Wars universe in an era and story never seen before in the movies or TV shows with the High Republic. Set 500 to 100 years before the Skywalker saga, the Disney+ show will chronicle the creeping rise of the Sith during the Jedis prime.

Even the most casual Dune fan knows that, at some point, there’s a giant worm boy. Since its first printing in 1981, Frank Herbert’s fourth book in the franchise, God Emperor of Dune, has proudly displayed a human/sandworm hybrid on its cover. Dune fans know that hybrid as Leto II, the son of Paul Atreides and Chani, who melds with a sandworm and becomes an all-powerful tyrant. Leto II is also one of the most fantastic elements of the Dune franchise, a series already filled with images wonderful and bizarre. God Emperor of Dune also isn’t part of Denis Villeneuve‘s planned series of films based on the first three Herbert books.
To the faithful, the idea of introducing sandworm Leto during the events of Dune Messiah is as painful as anything endured in the Gom Jabbar. But...

Anime is one of the more versatile and creative storytelling mediums and it only continues to break new ground and surpass greater expectations with each passing year. One of animes most rewarding assets is that there are so many diverse genres to explore, from mecha, to magical girl, to isekai, to sports series. Each of these genres is incredibly popular, but its the shonen demographic stories that are geared towards younger male audiences that tend to find exceptional success and become the latest phenomena that dominate the anime industry.
Some of this decades most popular anime such as My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Chainsaw Man are all shonen series. That being said, anime fans are doing themselves a disservice by ignoring the many prolific shonen series of the past. The growing number of anime makes it all too easy for a strong series to get lost in the shuffle,...

Freddy Kreuger has been depicted as a villain, anti-hero, and even a reluctant protagonist in the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. The Dream Master director Renny Harlin explains how he's partly responsible for making Freddy the James Bond of the horror genre.
Horror fans nurture a love-hate relationship with the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, but there's a consensus the first film was the best in the series. Dream Warriors legitimized the franchise by pitting Freddy Kreuger against worthy adversaries, who proved there are more angles to explore in sequels. Audiences were taken aback when The Dream Master was released, though; it departed from pure horror and leaned heavily into morbid comedy. In an interview with /Film, director Renny Harlin said they shifted the tone of The Dream Master to revitalize the series for the fan base. He asserted that Freddy had also become the franchise's star at this point.

JoBlo.com recently launched a new weekly documentary series called 80s Horror Memories, where each year of the 1980s has five episodes dedicated to it. Looking back at 1980, we discussed Maniac, Dressed to Kill, Alligator, Friday the 13th, The Shining, Prom Night, and The Fog. The second five episodes were a journey through 1981, covering The Funhouse, The Burning, Friday the 13th Part 2, My Bloody Valentine, Halloween II, The Evil Dead, The Howling, and An American Werewolf in London, as well as the careers of horror hosts Elvira and Joe Bob Briggs. The next five were, of course, all about movies that came out in 1982: Conan the Barbarian, The Thing, Halloween III: Season of the Witch, and Poltergeist, with an examination of the short-lived 3-D boom along the way. For 1983, we talked about a trio of Stephen King adaptations, Jaws 3-D, Sleepaway Camp, the rise of TV horror anthologies, and Psycho II.

This $200 Million Best Picture Nominee From 21 Years Ago Is How Ridley Scott Should've Made Napoleon
Napoleon's scope was too broad, resulting in a lack of depth in character development and storytelling. Master and Commander's focused approach on a specific period revealed deeper truths about the Napoleonic era. Despite critical acclaim, both Napoleon and Master and Commander failed to resonate with a global audience financially.
Ridley Scott's Napoleon was an ambitious but flawed attempt to examine the legendary French emperor, but one 21-year-old movie reveals how the 2023 film could have better brought Bonaparte's story to life. Made on an estimated budget of between $130-200 million, Napoleon made just $220 million at the global box office. Although a streaming release on Apple TV+ mitigated some of the damage, the film nevertheless failed to resonate with theatrical audiences. However, as one earlier project proves, there was a way for it to find greater critical success.

‘The Acolyte’ is the first live-action series set in the High Republic era and the second overall (after ‘Young Jedi Adventures’). Headland, a longtime Star Wars fan since her teens, eagerly seized the opportunity to contribute something fresh and distinct to the franchise. She described ‘Acolyte’ as a blend of ‘Frozen’ and ‘Kill Bill’, drawing inspiration from Wuxia films and Samurai action.
The trailer hinted at these influences, with Headland emphasizing that ‘Acolyte’ will showcase Jedi outnumbering Sith for the first time in Star Wars history.
In her recent interview with Empire Magazine, Headland described her motivation to tell a story from the perspective of the antagonists.
I was driven to write a story that essentially was from the perspective of the bad guys. I write that way with my other work. I am always attracted to amoral – or immoral – characters, and finding the humanity within the villains
