I watch hundreds of films a year and this one made the worst of the year award (ahead of Juarez, Mexico) at the last minute. Virtually impossible to follow, the camera work is horrible, the director has no concept of pacing, and Michael Madsen looked as lost as the audience. The punk music soundtrack was all right, but pushed at too high a volume level. The concept of the plot is intriguing, but everyone missed the mark in bringing it to film. The morality aspects of the film were disjointed and difficult to follow. Attempting to be "hard-core" with the killer of the young men the director missed the mark with a total lack of blood spatter except on the killer. The apartment was pristine (probably borrowed from a buddy) with no blood on carpet, furniture or walls. If you're going to show a brutal murder you should be prepared to SHOW the results of a brutal murder.
(2007) Eyes Front
ART HOUSE HORROR
A no plot movie that is co-written, produced and directed by Darren Doane who happens to be a prolific hardcore/punk music video of such bands as 'Blink 182' and 'Shinedown'. Here he makes a straight to rental debut about two different kinds of serial killers which one is seeking for answers he's played by Michael Madsen, while the other isn't( from what I gather from reading the back). It's one of those movies where the person who made the movie is the only person who'd understand it who is Darren Doane. Which there are times I too enjoy contradicting and convolute my own movie reviews on purpose so that I would be the only person who'd understand it just so it can help me solidify my key points whenever I would rewrite them again since I watch movies without a pad and paper and rely only on what I remember. But regardless, this movie is a reminiscent of many music videos since it starts off with the Madsen character asking a stupid rhetorical question like "why is there a god"!, and "why is there evil!" after he kills his wife for it's just one babble after the next. The other killer kills one person and then whacks two more with a hammer then he goes and talks to himself like a mental reject. That is probably the only excitement throughout the entire film which the director depends on many flashbacks some more incoherent than others. And because the budget is low, it really shows as he fills the movie with pointless hard punk music scores for people who have heard of him would probably understand this movie more than frequent movie watchers. Footnote: According to imdb.com, this also happens to be Christian Madsen's movie debut who's the son of Michael Madsen. Bomb.

Michael Madsen (RESERVOIR DOGS) stars in this harrowing story of two killers: one a serial killer on the prowl and the other a husband who accidentally kills his wife.
This chilling look into the tormented minds of two killers from completely different walks of life explores the thin line between good and evil. In a hallucinatory adventure of the senses, a crazed murderer wanders the streets on a remorseless hunt for victims. Meanwhile, a distraught family man (Michael Madsen, Sin City, Reservoir Dogs) who accidentally kills his wife desperately searches for redemption. Written and directed by acclaimed hardcore/punk music video director Darren Doane, EYES FRONT breaks new ground with its cutting-edge imagery, fueled by a pulse-pounding alternative music soundtrack.

- TriviaThe movie was shot about 5 or 6 years before its release in 2008. This is especially important because young star Christian Madsen (born in 1990, son of actor Michael Madsen) was a lot younger in the film than his age in 2008 which was 18.
