Harlan Coben’s next adaptation with an Avatar star just got a major filming update. It was announced earlier this month that Sam Worthington would lead Harlan Coben’s next project, but details about the rest of the cast are being kept under wraps. Worthington is best known for playing Jake Sully in James Cameron’s Avatar franchise, a role which he will reprise later this year in Avatar: Fire and Ash. Worthington is also known for starring as Marcus Wright in Terminator Salvation and for playing Perseus in Clash of the Titans. During a recent interview with Variety to talk about his projects past and present, Coben provided a thrilling update on the series, revealing that it plans to begin filming much sooner than we thought:
“Production is also about to start in two to three weeks on the feature 'I Will Find You' with Sam Worthington for Netflix U.

Three-time Academy Award nominee Russell Crowe is set to headline a new Cold War thriller. The movie is adapted from David E. Hoffman's bestseller, The Billion Dollar Spy: A True Story of Cold War Espionage and Betrayal, which tells a riveting story within the final years of the Cold War based on previously classified CIA documents and interviews. Crowe is best known for his performance as Maximus in Ridley Scott's 2000 Oscar-winner Gladiator.
Per Deadline's report, Billion Dollar Spyhas tapped Crowe and Industry's Harry Lawtey as the lead stars with a script by Ben August and revised by Oscar-winning writer Stephen Gaghan. Amma Asante will direct. In the movie, Crowe plays an ordinary man named Adolf Tolkachev, who is set on a highly dangerous mission to give top-secret Soviet intelligence to the United States. Lawtey will play a CIA agent named Tom Lenihan, who aids Crowe's character in challenging the Soviet government.

Actor Sam Worthington is about to enter another universe you know and love — but this time with fewer blue humanoids. The prolific television creator and novelist, Harlan Coben, has found his latest leading man in the Avatar actor. And his next limited series adaptation sounds like a real emotional doozy, which is fitting. According to Variety, Worthington will play a character from Coben's novel, I Will Find You, and it focuses on a heartbreaking, twisting tale of false imprisonment and a thrillingly harrowing family mystery.
It falls in line with Coben's work — 12 of his 37 novels have been adapted for film and television, and frequently feature unresolved murders and/or events from the past coming back to haunt their protagonist. He is beloved for his dramatic twists and turns, and has been heavily involved in bringing his novels to the small screen for Netflix. The same can be said of I Will Find You,...

Debuting on Apple TV+ on February 14 is director Scott Derrickson’s The Gorge, starring Miles Teller, Anya Taylor-Joy and Sigourney Weaver.
Two highly-trained operatives (Teller and Taylor-Joy) are appointed to posts in guard towers on opposite sides of a vast and highly classified gorge, protecting the world from an undisclosed, mysterious evil that lurks within. They bond from a distance while trying to stay vigilant in defending against an unseen enemy. When the cataclysmic threat to humanity is revealed to them, they must work together in a test of both their physical and mental strength to keep the secret in the gorge before it’s too late.
In a recent interview Derrickson said The Gorge is much like Until Dawn and Silent Hill, “I love those games, and I do think that gaming has sort of set the bar for gunplay action, especially if you’re really with a single character or two characters,...

To say director Scott Derrickson likes to take his time between movies would be an understatement. His 2016 MCU hit Doctor Strange wasn't followed up until five years later by the 2021 horror smash The Black Phone. Now, four years after that, his latest thriller The Gorge is set to debut on Apple TV+ on Feb. 14, and first reactions to the film have revealed if it's worth the wait.
Folks who got an early preview of The Gorge are taking to X to share their thoughts about Derrickson's latest, which stars Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy as two snipers hired to guard either side of a deep and impenetrable gorge, without knowing what actually lies beneath them. The Black Phone was one of the best movies of 2022 and one of the best horror films of the decade so far, but it was almost completely self-contained. Things seemed wrapped up in a truly satisfactory way by the end of the movie, and the villain (played to perfection by Ethan Hawke) seemed completely dead. The film's acclaimed director, Scott Derrickson, put his heart and soul into The Black Phone, which was a very personal and cathartic experience for him. He didn't have a sequel in mind whatsoever. And yet, The Black Phone 2 finished filming at the end of January. What happened?
Well, part of it has to do with Derrickson's new film, The Gorge, which debuts Feb. 14 on Apple TV+. The Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy movie is a genre-blending concoction that works as both a wild horror movie and a sweet romance that represents dating in modern times.

Not many shows have left a lasting impact in TV history as Frasier did. The NBC sitcom aired from 1993 until 2004, and while it was a spinoff of Cheers, it became so much more. The series had sharp dialogue, smart humor, and the perfect cast one could imagine, which earned the show a record-breaking 37 Emmy Awards during its original run.

When Wim Wenders was readying to present a 4K restoration of his classic 1987 fantasy film Wings of Desire in November 2018 in New York City, Scott Derrickson had to be there.
The German auteur is not only “a filmmaking mentor and one of my closest friends,” but he’s also godfather to both of Derrickson’s sons, Atticus and Dashiel. When the former was born, Wenders was the first guest to visit the family in the hospital. It made sense that Atticus, 14 at the time, would join his director dad in leaving their home in Los Angeles’ Thousand Oaks neighborhood to board a plane bound for the East Coast to attend the presentation at New York’s Quad Cinema.
“Wim always had trouble with the color of the black-and-white balance — both on the VHS, certainly the DVD but also with the prints — and getting the proper tone for the footage, which was running a little sepia.

Russell Crowe is one of the most distinguished actors of his generation. Recently, Crowe's career has deviated towards the horror genre — with two similar roles in The Pope's Exorcist and The Exorcism. Crowe was nominated for Best Actor three years running during the 2000s for his lead role in Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind, and The Insider. While Crowe has experienced notable highs in his career, he has encountered significant setbacks, too. Poker Face sits at Crowe's lowest critic score on Rotten Tomatoes with a meager 9%, and his most recent slate of films has not performed well.
In 2023, Crowe portrayed the real-life Vatican exorcist in The Pope's Exorcist, Father Gabriele Amorth. Months later, Crowe featured in The Exorcism, where he depicts a single father and recovering addict, starring on a cursed film set. The comparisons between The Pope's Exorcist and The Exorcism were addressed by the writer, who believes "it's sort of a happy accident.

Warning: This article discusses depictions of violence.
Russell Crowe is a versatile actor who stars in movies of varying genres, but many don’t realize he is in four different horror movies. Russell Crowe’s best movies include the likes of Les Misérables, Gladiator, and L.A. Confidential, all of which see him portray a range of unique characters. Since his beginnings in New Zealand, Crowe has soared to international fame, and he is now one of the most prominent actors in the world.
There are plenty of things viewers need to know about Russell Crowe, but the most important is that his dip into the world of horror movies is a relatively recent thing. While the actor is known for providing gripping performances in hard-hitting dramas, some of the best biopic movies of all time, and hilarious comedies, Crowe doesn’t typically take on characters who are vicious and brutal.

Russell Crowe is one of the more inconsistent actors of his generation. On the one hand, Crowe is an Oscar winner and three-time nominee, having been recognized for his roles in The Insider, Gladiator (for which he won), and A Beautiful Mind. In addition to these nominated films, he has also been in other award-winning movies such as Les Misérables and Cinderella Man. At the same time, these highs have also been met with notable lows, such as the 2022 film Poker Face and 2014's Winter's Tale, which received 9% and 12% Tomatometers, respectively.
Over the past few years, Crowe's career has taken a turn towards horror. These genre movies have been met with mixed success at the box office and among critics. One particularly unfortunate example was last year's The Exorcism, which got a 27% Tomatometer among Rotten Tomatoes critics, and only a slightly higher 35% audience score. Russell Crowe's newest movie continues an unfortunate Rotten Tomatoes streak in the actor's career. Some of Russell Crowe's best movies include L.A. Confidential, Gladiator, and A Beautiful Mind. These movies and many more cemented Crowe as one of the best actors in Hollywood. However, several recent movies in Russell Crowe's career have not been received well by critics. In recent years, it has become much more common for a film starring Crowe to receive a "Rotten" score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, rather than a "Fresh" rating.
Any film that receives an overall score of lower than 60% is determined to be "Rotten" on Rotten Tomatoes. The recently released Kraven the Hunter is Crowe's newest movie to be declared "Rotten." Kraven the Hunter is Crowe's third movie of the year to have a score of less than 60% on Rotten Tomatoes, proving that 2024 was not a standout year for the actor.

Some viewers tragically lose their favorite shows after only one season. However, the lucky fans of Showtime's eight-season hit Dexter are now enjoying its highly-anticipated prequel, Dexter: Original Sin. The new series comes only a few years after getting its time-jump revival, Dexter: New Blood, and right before its upcoming spin-off, Dexter: Resurrection, which will be released in the summer of 2025.
Creator Clyde Phillips returns as showrunner and writer, alongside its titular star, Michael C. The series centers on Dexter Morgan's life after college with the Miami Metro Police Department. Retroactively exploring the Bay Harbor Butcher's inception, audiences will get a closer look at how he evolved from paid forensics intern to serial killer, mastering his craft, covering established kills, and encountering some of the characters from the original series for the first time.

2005 was filled with great slasher, spooky, and creature-feature movies. Early 2000s horror movies weren't afraid to push boundaries and scare audiences in new and exciting ways. Movies like Saw 2, Hostel, and The Devil's Rejects displayed a whole new type of brutal horror subgenre and showed just how terrifying the world could be in these franchises. These graphically violent movies weren't the first of their genre, but they brought the shock value that audiences felt worldwide.

Dan Stevens is set to star in the new horror movie The Ritual with the legendary Al Pacino, which is set up to be the perfect replacement for the recent failed restart of a beloved horror franchise. From director David Midell and writer Enrico Natale, The Ritual recently got a release date for Easter weekend 2025, and based on the limited details revealed, seems like it will hit many of the familiar notes of the demonic exorcism subgenre. That certainly isn't a strike against it, given how many disappointing exorcism movies have been released in the last few years.
A familiar exorcism formula could still be a massive hit, considering The Ritual will be elevated by the presence of Pacino and Stevens. While there has been no shortage of attempts at high-quality modern exorcism movies, there have unfortunately been very few successes. Despite her twenty-year acting career, Jennifer Carpenter is most recognizable as Debra Morgan from the Showtime series Dexter. The show allowed Carpenter to display her wide range of flexibility from a hard-nosed police officer to a sarcastic and loving sister, all of which carried over to subsequent projects. While the role has been her most acclaimed to date, Carpenter has had success in both film and television since Dexter ended in 2013.
Before receiving the part that would land her a Saturn Award, Jennifer Carpenter starred in both The Exorcism of Emily Rose and White Chicks. Both films went on to achieve cult classic notoriety. Carpenter's dark performance as Emily Rose may have well-prepared her for the dismal content of Dexter, while the comedic lightheartedness of the Wayans Bros' White Chicks could have laid the groundwork for the nuance within Debra Morgan's character.

The latest cinematic offering of demon possession horror, Devils Stay, is in good company these days; this new South Korean film joins the recent likes of The Pope’s Exorcist, The Exorcist: Believer and The Exorcism. However, as old hat as Hyun Moon-seop’s big-screen debut comes across, its staleness is more due to story than timing. Delaying this film until now — it was shot in 2020 — certainly doesn’t make it any less hoary, but the real issue here is a refusal to abandon or, at the very least, shake up an overused formula.
On the surface, Devils Stay does seem different than usual. The victim is another young woman, yes, but she is pronounced dead long before the final exorcism can even take place. In fact, the film starts off with said character’s funeral; So-mi (Lee Re) died from what looks to be an unsuccessful heart transplant. And...

The upcoming M3GAN 2.0 will feature the return of both main characters and the titular killer robot as well as Brian Jordan Alvarez as Cole and Jen Van Epps as Tess alongside newcomers Ivanna Sakhno, Timm Sharp, Aristotle Athari, and Jemaine Clement.
Vanity Fair has shared a new exclusive behind-the-scenes image from M3GAN 2.0. It features one of the dolls playing M3GAN herself, being inspected by returning star Violet McGraw and lead puppeteer Adrien Morot, who also worked on the original movie in addition to recent horror outings such as The First Omen,...

With the first issue having recently been released by Idw, I caught up with Hannah Rose May to learn more about The Exorcism at 1600 Penn. From research on the White House's haunted history to teaming up with artist Vanesa Del Rey, we dive into the making of this new horror comic book series set within the most secure house on earth.
What was the inspiration behind The Exorcism At 1600 Penn and how did you end up teaming up with Idw for the new series?
Hannah Rose May: Growing up in Ireland means you’re always surrounded by the Catholic Church which had me becoming obsessed with all things exorcisms (I’m not sure what that says about me). I’ve always been fascinated with faith and belief and wanted to tell a story that had characters confronting that head on. There’s no better way to do that than with a good ol’ fashioned exorcism.

An exorcism movie starring Russell Crowe has climbed the streaming charts yet again. Crowe was born in New Zealand in 1964 and became a rising star off the back of prominent movies including 1992's Romper Stomper, 1997's L.A. Confidential, and 1999's The Insider before being launched as a superstar with his Oscar-winning performance in Ridley Scott's Best Picture-winning 2000 movie Gladiator. Crowe has been nominated for two other Oscars (for The Insider and A Beautiful Mind) in addition to winning one BAFTA and two Golden Globes.
Russell Crowe movies have occupied many different genres in the more than two decades since he won his Oscar. In addition to his comfort zone of dramas, he has also appeared in comedies, Westerns, comic book movies and a musical (Les Misrables). Crowe has also dabbled in the horror and thriller genres multiple times with titles including Unhinged, The Mummy (2017), and The Exorcism.

Russell Crowe hasn't often appeared in horror movies, yet after the failure of his 2017 remake, The Mummy, his recent exorcism movies have partly made up for his horror losses. Crowe's acting career first began in 1990 when he featured in the Australian drama, Prisoners of the Sun. In the intervening years, Crowe has led some truly iconic films, from Gladiator and A Beautiful Mind to Robin Hood and Les Misrables. Though Crowe has certainly proved his chops as a dramatic actor, one genre he has not yet mastered is the horror movie, though this may be changing.
The most notable horror entry in Crowe's career is The Mummy. This 2017 movie is a reboot of the original 1932 Mummy franchise, and was meant to be a part of Universal's Dark Universe, which included remakes of Universal's classic monster movies. However, The Mummy did not perform nearly as well as hoped. Though the movie grossed around $410 million,...

Neon's latest film, Anora, has only premiered in select theaters around the world, but the film has still already carved its name into an elite box office. Thanks to a strong haul of $234,000 on Wednesday, November 6, Anora's domestic total has eclipsed $4.5 million to help it become one of the top 100 highest-grossing movies of the year. The film just moved past In a Violent Nature (Ry Barrett) and The Exorcism (Russell Crowe) to reach the top 100 after premiering more than three weeks ago. During its third full weekend in theaters, Anora finished in the eleventh spot at the domestic box office with $1.8 million, losing to box office goliaths like Venom: The Last Dance and The Wild Robot, but having no trouble earning more than flops like Joker: Folie Deux and Saturday Night.

Hugh Grant, Sophie Thatcher, and Chloe East in ‘Heretic’ (Credit: Kimberley French / A24)
Some religions request/require their followers to go door-to-door spreading the word of…their religion. Sounds kind of scary on both ends, doesn’t it? Well, that’s the crux of A24’s horror movie Heretic.
Heretic is about two Latter-day Saints missionaries, Sister Barnes (Sophie Thatcher from Yellowjackets) and Sister Paxton (Chloe East from The Fablemans), who happen to knock upon the door of a man named Mr. Reed. At first, it seems like a normal “can we tell you about Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior” kind of experience, but when Mr. Reed invites the two girls inside for some blueberry pie, things get a little awkward. Mr. Reed puts the girls through their paces with his philosophical questions about their religion, but his testing doesn’t stop with mere conversation.

When the "Frasier" revival series on Paramount+ was announced but costar David Hyde Pierce, who plays Frasier's neurotic younger brother Niles, was missing entirely, things felt a little out of place. At the time, Pierce said that he simply wasn't interested in playing the character again, and he had moved on in his career. That might sound like he had some negative feelings about his time on "Frasier" and maybe even his main co-worker, Kelsey Grammer (who played Frasier), but thankfully, that couldn't be further from the truth.
In an interview with Forbes, Pierce, who recently starred in "The Exorcism" with Russell Crowe, shared his feelings on not only Grammer's immense talents but also how the other actor helped him in his own journey as a performer. It turns out that while Pierce doesn't have much desire to return to the role of Niles, he does have a lot of...

It's been a busy year for Russell Crowe already, with the Oscar-winning actor starring in projects such as The Exorcism, Sleeping Dogs, and Land of Bad, alongside stars like Sam Worthington, Liam Hemsworth, and Karen Gillan. However, a few years ago, Crowe stepped outside his wheelhouse to play a terrifying villain in Unhinged, the 2020 psychosocial thriller which also stars Dark Matter and Bad Batch star Jimmi Simpson. Unhinged has jumped to the top of the Netflix charts, surpassing Adam Sandler's Pixels and Jenna Ortega's Scream to reach the #3 spot. The film cost $33 million to produce and earned only $44 million at the worldwide box office and currently sits at a 48% rating from critics and a 77% score from general audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.

The Black Phone director Scott Derrickson unearths a selection of concept art pieces for his vision of John Milton's 17th-century epic Paradise Lost from his scrapped adaptation. Alongside the 2021 horror feature, Derrickson led many well-known modern features within franchises, including Sinister, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, and the McU's Doctor Strange. Milton's poem is a biblical epic exploring the fall of Lucifer from Heaven, and the following corruption he wrecks on Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.
While Derrickson has taken a break from the darker explorations of humanity for his upcoming romantic comedy The Gorge, the director took to his personal X account to share a selection of newly unearthed pieces from his scrapped attempted adaptation of Paradise Lost.
I found 8 more old concept images on my computer for Milton's Paradise Lost, which I couldn't get made. The dated artwork is from 2009, but still gets the visual ideas across.

However you look at it, the fact that Russell Crowe has chosen to make two exorcist movies in as many years is a very strange decision. It’s like Jason Statham deciding to play another bee-keeper, or Glen Powell playing another hitman. Whatever the reasoning behind his decision, Crowe’s second exorcism movie, The Exorcism, is sadly disappointing, a murky, near-nonsensical effort with nothing to offer but jump scares.
In fairness, you can maybe see Crowe’s thinking when you take a closer look at the film’s pedigree. It’s directed by Joshua John Miller, the son of Jason Miller, who played Father Damien in William Friedkin’s The Exorcist. Similarly, rather than playing an actual exorcist, as he did in last year’s The Pope’s Exorcist,...

Imagine a tarantula climbing up your chest and into your open mouth. At some point, the tarantula releases some venom and your life becomes a mess. Well, Russell Crowe didn’t have to imagine any of it.

What was once expected to be one of the biggest movies of October instead became the first major disasters of the month, as well as potentially the biggest bombs of the year. Read on for the weekend box office report.
Although Warner Bros. debuted Todd Phillips‘ anticipated sequel “Joker: Folie à Deux” – once again starring Oscar-winner Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck aka the Joker – at the prestigious Venice Film Festival in September, it didn’t quite find the critical acclaim or box office success as its 2019 predecessor. That’s even with the addition of the one and only Lady Gaga (another Oscar winner) taking on the role of Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie in three previous DC features.

A rough year for Lionsgate has somehow become even worse with the recent release of Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis. The Godfather director's passion project has still yet to reach $5 million at the domestic box office, currently sitting at a total of only $4.3 million, despite coming with a $100 million price tag. The only silver lining is that Megalopolis is likely about to move past The Exorcism, the Russell Crowe-led horror flick, in the next day or two, if it can cobble together a few hundred thousand. While the domestic box office totals for Megalopolis and The Exorcism are extremely similar, the biggest difference is that Crowe's horror flick cost only a fraction of the price to make, boasting a production budget of $22 million, which it still failed to earn back even at the worldwide box office.

If you’re looking for someone to curate programming at your horror streaming service, hire the guy with the trio of “Halloween 3: Season of the Witch” (1982) masks tatted on his forearm. Sam Zimmerman was built — or at least inked — for the Shudder job.
This is Zimmerman’s time of year — and it’s extra special in 2024. September and December both have Friday the 13th dates, perfect bookends for Shudder’s supersized Season of Screams. During the same window, Zimmerman is moving his young family onto what he described as the Halloween block in his new (and quaint) town. Quite the Halloween for this guy, both professionally and personally.
With all due respect to AMC+, Shudder is the standout AMC Networks streaming service (of the many we don’t feel like counting right now), and the Season of Screams will pack the app with film releases, series, specials, and live watch parties.

The Front Room has debuted with a record low for the horror genre in 2024. The new movie is the feature debut of writer-directors Max and Sam Eggers, who are the twin brothers of The Witch and The Lighthouse director Robert Eggers. A24's The Front Room stars Brandy as Belinda, a pregnant anthropology professor whose sick and grieving stepmother-in-law Solange (Kathryn Hunter) moves in with her and her husband Norman (Andrew Burnap), causing a variety of increasingly sinister issues for the couple.
Per Deadline, as of Sunday morning, The Front Room is projected to debut with a 3-day total of $1.66 million from 2,095 theaters. This total places it at No. 10 on the domestic chart for the weekend, well below the competing new release Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which is on track to earn $110 million. It is also set for the worst opening weekend for a 2024 horror movie so far, which in this case...

Devon Sawa, the teenage heartthrob known for his roles in '90s horror gems like Idle Hands and Final Destination, has shared that most of his co-stars in the family sports comedy Little Giants want a reunion. Considering the film depicted a whole football team, it's not a small group to bring together again after all these years, but it looks like Sawa is working hard to make it happen.
Sawa took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to start a campaign to gather the stars of the 1994 film in one room and rekindle the magic of the beloved family comedy. His post teases the fact that he's been talking with his co-stars from the movie, and he even mentions the American Cinematheque account in order to get a Q&a going. He also mentions a Little Giants Easter Egg that maybe some will recognize:
"I've 80% of the cast of...

Why isn't Niles in the "Frasier" revival series? He's busy, that's why. In a recent interview with Metro's 60 Seconds, actor David Hyde Pierce reassured fans of the show that his absence from the new Paramount+ series, which has a second season due out in September, is nothing more than the result of a scheduling decision. Also, it sounds like he really might be open to coming back -- briefly.
"I think right from the beginning, when we talked about it, if the idea of had we been we were going to do, like, a one-off special episode, or something that would have been very easy to commit to," Pierce explained to Metro. Basically, he'd be down for a guest star spot, but doesn't want to forgo other jobs in order to become a series regular again. We don't blame him -- the actor already appeared in a staggering 263 episodes of the original series,...
