Harlan Coben’s next adaptation with an Avatar star just got a major filming update. It was announced earlier this month that Sam Worthington would lead Harlan Coben’s next project, but details about the rest of the cast are being kept under wraps. Worthington is best known for playing Jake Sully in James Cameron’s Avatar franchise, a role which he will reprise later this year in Avatar: Fire and Ash. Worthington is also known for starring as Marcus Wright in Terminator Salvation and for playing Perseus in Clash of the Titans. During a recent interview with Variety to talk about his projects past and present, Coben provided a thrilling update on the series, revealing that it plans to begin filming much sooner than we thought:

Three-time Academy Award nominee Russell Crowe is set to headline a new Cold War thriller. The movie is adapted from David E. Hoffman's bestseller, The Billion Dollar Spy: A True Story of Cold War Espionage and Betrayal, which tells a riveting story within the final years of the Cold War based on previously classified CIA documents and interviews. Crowe is best known for his performance as Maximus in Ridley Scott's 2000 Oscar-winner Gladiator.

Per Deadline's report, Billion Dollar Spyhas tapped Crowe and Industry's Harry Lawtey as the lead stars with a script by Ben August and revised by Oscar-winning writer Stephen Gaghan. Amma Asante will direct. In the movie, Crowe plays an ordinary man named Adolf Tolkachev, who is set on a highly dangerous mission to give top-secret Soviet intelligence to the United States. Lawtey will play a CIA agent named Tom Lenihan, who aids Crowe's character in challenging the Soviet government.

Actor Sam Worthington is about to enter another universe you know and love — but this time with fewer blue humanoids. The prolific television creator and novelist, Harlan Coben, has found his latest leading man in the Avatar actor. And his next limited series adaptation sounds like a real emotional doozy, which is fitting. Russell Crowe and Ethan Hawke are set to unite for a new historical drama from director Padraic McKinley.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Crowe and Hawke are set to star in The Weight, a historical period drama set in 1930s Oregon. The film will be directed by McKinley, from a script written by Shelby Gaines, Matthew Chapman, and Matthew Booi. McKinley is an editor and producer known for American Gods and Kingdom. He recently served as an executive producer for Crowe's The Exorcism and has directed episodes of Debris and Kingdom. The Weight will serve as his feature film directorial debut.

The Black Phone was one of the best movies of 2022 and one of the best horror films of the decade so far, but it was almost completely self-contained. Things seemed wrapped up in a truly satisfactory way by the end of the movie, and the villain (played to perfection by Ethan Hawke) seemed completely dead. The film's acclaimed director, Scott Derrickson, put his heart and soul into The Black Phone, which was a very personal and cathartic experience for him. He didn't have a sequel in mind whatsoever. And yet, The Black Phone 2 finished filming at the end of January. What happened?

Well, part of it has to do with Derrickson's new film, The Gorge, which debuts Feb. 14 on Apple TV+. The Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy movie is a genre-blending concoction that works as both a wild horror movie and a sweet romance that represents dating in modern times.

The release date for 1923 season 2 has been revealed. A prequel to Yellowstone from franchise creator Taylor Sheridan, the Paramount+ series features Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren and serves as a sequel to 1883. The story centers around the Dutton family during the titular year, which included the Western Expansion, Prohibition, and the Great Depression. What was the inspiration behind The Exorcism At 1600 Penn and how did you end up teaming up with Idw for the new series?

Hannah Rose May: Growing up in Ireland means you’re always surrounded by the Catholic Church which had me becoming obsessed with all things exorcisms (I’m not sure what that says about me). I’ve always been fascinated with faith and belief and wanted to tell a story that had characters confronting that head on. There’s no better way to do that than with a good ol’ fashioned exorcism.

It's been a busy year for Russell Crowe already, with the Oscar-winning actor starring in projects such as The Exorcism, Sleeping Dogs, and Land of Bad, alongside stars like Sam Worthington, Liam Hemsworth, and Karen Gillan. However, a few years ago, Crowe stepped outside his wheelhouse to play a terrifying villain in Unhinged, the 2020 psychosocial thriller which also stars Dark Matter and Bad Batch star Jimmi Simpson. Unhinged has jumped to the top of the Netflix charts, surpassing Adam Sandler's Pixels and Jenna Ortega's Scream to reach the #3 spot. The film cost $33 million to produce and earned only $44 million at the worldwide box office and currently sits at a 48% rating from critics and a 77% score from general audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.

The Black Phone director Scott Derrickson unearths a selection of concept art pieces for his vision of John Milton's 17th-century epic Paradise Lost from his scrapped adaptation. Alongside the 2021 horror feature, Derrickson led many well-known modern features within franchises, including Sinister, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, and the McU's Doctor Strange. Milton's poem is a biblical epic exploring the fall of Lucifer from Heaven, and the following corruption he wrecks on Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

The Godfather director's passion project has still yet to reach $5 million at the domestic box office, currently sitting at a total of only $4.3 million, despite coming with a $100 million price tag. The only silver lining is that Megalopolis is likely about to move past The Exorcism, the Russell Crowe-led horror flick, in the next day or two, if it can cobble together a few hundred thousand. While the domestic box office totals for Megalopolis and The Exorcism are extremely similar, the biggest difference is that Crowe's horror flick cost only a fraction of the price to make, boasting a production budget of $22 million, which it still failed to earn back even at the worldwide box office.

The new movie is the feature debut of writer-directors Max and Sam Eggers, who are the twin brothers of The Witch and The Lighthouse director Robert Eggers. A24's The Front Room stars Brandy as Belinda, a pregnant anthropology professor whose sick and grieving stepmother-in-law Solange (Kathryn Hunter) moves in with her and her husband Norman (Andrew Burnap), causing a variety of increasingly sinister issues for the couple.

Per Deadline, as of Sunday morning, The Front Room is projected to debut with a 3-day total of $1.66 million from 2,095 theaters. Devon Sawa, the teenage heartthrob known for his roles in '90s horror gems like Idle Hands and Final Destination, has shared that most of his co-stars in the family sports comedy Little Giants want a reunion.
