Nithin Renji Panicker has not moved an inch from his poor attempt with "KASABA". Dialogues are cliched, unimpactful. Worst part is there is a significant lag after the dialogues. Character says a dialogue, and wait for the camera to cut away. Its just all over the film. What could've been a proper action flick turns out to be a boring time waste. Cinematography is just okay. What could've been better was the editing and direction. Nithin should perhaps script just the story and let his father carry on with dialogues and direction.
One place he did succeed is with the emotional scenes.
Yet, a film that marks the return of Suresh Gopi was hugely disappointing. Suresh should collaborate with talented makers.

This was a great story idea but destroyed through unimaginative direction.. I'm willing to put my money on it again, if they remake it retaining SG, and the bad cop and change every other actor and props like the Diwali toy gun of the hero. 5 stars for SG and a couple of goosebump scenes like the ones in the money lender's office and the one towards the end in the hospital.

I really wish this movie to be good because of the return of Suresh Gopi to action genre, unfortunately, there is no way I can give pass mark for this. Kaaval is a very very outdated movie. The script is cliché, from beginning to the end. This may have been attractive in 1980-1990s, but not in 2021.

The movie has very few positives
1. Suresh Gopi's screen presence and dialogue delivery
2. Bgm and music
3. The acting by the villain police officer and Ranji panicker.
Nothing else is good. It is so utterly predictable that you may fall asleep many times while watching the movie
Not recommended for a theatre watch.

There's ZERO story- screenplay- direction; in fact such movie creation will take Malayalam film industry to Dogs! Renji Panicker & Son's slum dialogues used mostly in "painkili novels" does make you feel pity for SG to have acted in this movie for no good reason.
The entire story lacks common sense and audience left in the middle without completing the movie. I guess the story/ screenplay and dialogues were written in the 90's - since the movie was dragged to the core with a lot of characters shown unnecessarily, the worst anyone can predict the movie in the first 20mins doesn't require any brain. Cinematography, Background scores - Pathetic! Repeated music keeps playing when SG's closeups are shown- Horrible!
Suresh Gopi pulled off his character well and so does the newcomers. However i feel this movie, particularly its script and direction, does no justice to SG to be marked off as a great comeback. The director does not belong to film making; should take up some other job; since the art of movie making of this age is clearly gone out of his way. Worst you spoiled the career of Padmaraj Ratheesh- worst screenplay, character and dialogues spoiled his performance!

Beautiful landscapes. Some memorable scenes. It's really good to see SG back on screen with fiery dialogues. SG and Renji Panikar duo performances are feast to audience eye. Performance of few new comers really stand alone among other actors.

Extremely slow paced. The content is worth less than 1.5 hrs and the rest is all bloat. Most of the significant part of the plot happens in the final 45 mins and that too has critical plot holes. I'd recommend a skip for this movie or use the fwd button liberally if you feel intrigued enough to go through it.
A slow paced action drama which lies more on reality than fiction.
Strictly one time watchable.
Never expect an entertainer as the movie doesn't demand an entertaining platform.

The story lacks logic and would have gone well with the audience if it was released in the 80's or 90's. A lot of characters were unnecessarily wasted. Cinematography was poor with closeups of characters filling up the entire screen. Music was bland. The movie is very much predictable and the first few scenes are enough to get a sense of the story ahead. The twist at the end was illogical. Suresh Gopi pulled off his character well and so does the newcomers. However i feel this movie, particularly its script and direction, does no justice to SG to be marked off as a great comeback. The director surely needs to take note of the movies and the art of movie making of this age.

Suresh Gopi makes a great comeback. Packed with action and sentimental scenes, it is a great for families lone moviegoers alike. It is a must recommended movie for all movie lovers.
This movie is not bad compared to the bad reviews in here. Yes the movie at times is slow paced but Its a decent emotional thriller and a one time watch.

An old story narrated in an old way. Although the movie has sons of many veterans - Renji Panicker, Rajan P Dev, Ratheesh - film couldn't provide the expected "freshness". Suresh Gopi & Renji Panicker heels the movie together. Wondering why Nitin force fits vulgar dialogues into the scenes. Kasaba was no different. Renji Panicker movies had fire dialogues but they were not vulgar. It is high time that talented actors like Sadique are given roles other than that of thw "Good Head Constable". Talented actors like Sankar Ramakrishnan was also wasted in the movie.

A slow pace average movie. This movie which was expected to give a break for Sureshgopi couldn't convey anything to audience. Frankly, the watching of movie was really a boring task. Surashgopi was delivering the dialogues very slowly. Also I think that the heroic dialogues when come in every 5 minutes are no more heroic!!! The climax which the film makers thought to be very surprising was quite predictable and was cliché. The films like lelam and vazhunnor from renji panicker - Sureshgopi team could make an impact in audience. But this film which was expected to do the same could not even touch its fence!!! However characters Rachel and Alex are well portrayed.. Also certain shots were good!!

Lot of emotional drama and very little thrills. Very predictable script is another main issue. Suresh Gopi of course did well where possible, but he got only limited space to perform. Movie lacks any fire to consider as suresh Gopi comeback. Decent songs.
- Story is slow, outdated and predictable.
- Could have been better if it was trimmed to 90 minutes movie.
- Some scenes are good and that's it.
- Acting of side characters weren't that impressive.

In kattapanna, Antony(renji panicker) and his right hand thamban(suresh gopi) solve all the villagers problems using their fists. This does not get well with the policemen and they team up with their recent enemy suresh krishna and send goons to attack them in which antony loses his leg and thamban is injured. Antony's wife requests thamban to leave the village and never see them. Before leaving, thamban burns down the police station and shoots suresh krishna. Years later, antony is a widower and physically weak. He and his children are constantly harassed and disowned by the villagers due to his and thamban's previous deeds. A money lender lusts on antony's daughter rachel and beats up her groom during their wedding ceremony. Antony tries to seek the help of police but don't help him. He plans to meet thamban for help but dies in an accident. Having nobody's support, antony's son alex decides to meet thamban for help. Rest of the film is how thamban protects antony's children and tries to find whether antony's death was an accident or not.
The biggest highlight of kaaval is definitely suresh gopi. The way he kicks ass with intensity proves that there is still the action hero in him. There is an effort to tell an emotional story rather than mere show off like tamil or telugu films.
Story has nothing new to offer, screenplay is predictable and full of clichés and film runs on a slow pace throughout.
On the whole, kaaval is strictly for sg fans and is watchable for his action avatar.

Who are these old hags. Playing hero expect more from South indian movies. These hags need to stop doing movies as a hero. Where did the mirror go that's all I want to say. Director was probably drunk on some next level that picked these old hags.

You know the feeling when you eat something totally insipid? Like wet Pappadams. Well, Nithin Renji Panicker's sophomore feature, #kaaval is the definition of insipid. It is lifeless, dead on arrival, disastrous.
Two friends, Antony & Thambaan are messiahs of sorts for their townsfolk. They help deal with corrupt politicians, land owners and police. After a gruesome encounter, the friends part ways. Years later, Thambaan returns to his friend's aid.
Suresh Gopi stars in his first movie since he returned with Varane Avashyamund. And I must say that he is going down the same path as Mohanlal (not doing age appropriate roles; though Varane was apt). And his upcoming films are also giving out the same vibe. It maybe his character's persona but he looks really worn out & disinterested in Kaaval. Renji Panicker does his son (and us viewers) a favour by having minimal screentime.
Kaaval is so boring & lifeless that you literally feel depressed watching it. At least Nithin's first film, Kasaba was controversial & cringe-worthy. He returns with the exact opposite of Kasaba (which was loud & overly crass). Well, Kasaba joins Mamta Mohandas's Lalbagh & Marakkar - Arabikadalinte Simham in the worst of Malayalam cinema from 2021.

Real comeback of action hero with mass action. Hope this combination will continue for giving us further more successful movies.
Kudus to Nithin for his continued efforts to give such mass action films. After Mammooty, Suresh Gopi and now we expect Lalettan.

When I watch movies I usually see how well made it is, how authentic it looks and this one has come close to reality and I would give it 6/10 except for some reactions by some actors in certain situations. The big plus point of this movie is shooting at some original natural surroundings especially the old house that is prominently shown here. All said and done, Malayalam movies has come of age and matured a lot. For a change Suresh Gopi got a chance to show his acting talent and he has delivered well here. (Reminded me of the chance meeting I had with him in a train from Ernakulam to Kanoor way back in Oct 2009. I wrote a blog about the 6 hrs we spend talking about each other's passion)

I don't know how this movie received 6.1 imdb rating tbh. The dialogues were cringeworthy and cliche. The cinematography gave the feeling of watching a youtube shortfilm or serial. The plot twist was predictable af. The movie was so dragged out that we contemplated watching it in 1.25x. Even some of the good actors in this cast couldn't save this poorly written and executed movie.

This movie was very boring. Why did they made this movie . I can't even believe that it is a 2021 movie . It looks like a 90's film . Very boring story and bad songs . Very lag movie . This movie is waste of money.
