The “Saved by the Bell” revival at Peacock has been canceled.

The show aired two seasons at the streamer, with the most recent one debuting in November 2021. The first season premiered in November 2020.

New York-based streaming network FilmRise has acquired the Fast (free ad-supported streaming) rights to Canadian comedy series “Kim’s Convenience,” following an agreement with Canadian production company Thunderbird Entertainment, FilmRise announced on Wednesday.

The show’s five seasons, which are currently available by subscription VOD on Netflix, will have their own dedicated channel in addition to populating on some of the platform’s other channels globally. FilmRise plans to offer the show to Fast channels on IMDb TV, Pluto, The Roku Channel, Samsung TV+, the FilmRise Streaming Network and others.

Based on Ins Choi’s award-winning play of the same name, “Kim’s Convenience” tells the story of a Korean-Canadian family that runs a convenience store in Toronto. The show first premiered in 2016 on CBC, and gained a global following after debuting on Netflix in 2018. The cast includes Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Andrew Phung, Andrea Bang, Jean Yoon, Simu Liu and Nicole Power.

GLAAD today announced the nominees in 30 categories for its 33rd Annual Media Awards.

In a flip-flip of last year’s top leaders, the combined HBO/HBO Max scored the most nominations of any network with 19, followed by Netflix with 17. That’s a lot closer than last year, when Netflix ran away with 26 noms, while HBO was a distant second with nine.

Streaming services saw a total of 63 nominations, with cable receiving 39 and broadcast networks receiving 17. Hulu received seven nominations, while ABC, MSNBC and Peacock all saw four. In the Spanish-language categories, Univision and Telemundo both received two nominations.

Based on a true story, Redd Zone follows Tia Magee (Smith), a single mother who steps forward to help her sons and their high school football teammates, “The Bros,” heal after the murder of their best friend, Dominic Redd. One by one, The Bros start moving into her house, and soon 17 are living under her roof. Eventually, all The Bros go to college, with four making it to the NFL. The film is dedicated to Redd’s memory, and to the powerful impact he had on his community.

Written and directed by Little Monsters auteur Abe Forsythe, the half-hour dramedy centers on Gary (Gad), an “emotional wreck” who struggles to provide for his daughter Emma following the death of his wife; and Mary (Fisher), who harbors a secret she can’t bring herself to share with anyone. “The universe brought these two together for a reason,” the official/cryptic logline teases. “They just need to keep following the signs.”

Not that either has stopped the slow march toward net zero on creativity.

But while many reboots are content to do nothing more than update the technology for a beloved property and cash in on its name recognition, some are interested in exploring and questioning what made the original iteration so resonant while addressing its earlier failings. The prime example is Pop TV’s dearly beloved “One Day at a Time,” which took the original’s premise (single mom and kids struggling with divorce) and applied it to a Latinx family. During the most recent season of MTV’s competition program “The Challenge,” subtitled “Spies, Lies & Allies,” the competitors initially had to work in pairs, despite major language barriers among them.

In these games, veteran players from past seasons of “The Challenge” compete against vets of other series including “Survivor,” “Big Brother” and “Love Island” from around the world. Everyone must speak at least a little English, casting director Skye Topic says, or it wouldn’t be fair, since host T.J. Lavin gives them the rules of each challenge in English. But because “we envision the show as a place where it’s an intersection of societies,” she says, they are leaning into bringing in global players, including those from Germany, Turkey, Romania, Spain and Nigeria in this season alone.

Charter Communications is giving free access to Peacock Premium free for one year to Spectrum TV subscribers through its deal with Comcast’s NBCUniversal.

Also under the pact, Spectrum Internet customers are eligible to get Peacock Premium (normally $4.99/month) for 90 days at no additional cost. The Peacock promotions were included as part of the Charter-NBCU multiyear distribution deal reached a earlier this year.

The offer is available to eligible Charter customers starting Monday (Dec. 13). The offer will let Charter’s Spectrum TV and broadband customers stream tens of thousands of hours of movies and shows, live news and sports, and more from across NBCU’s portfolio and other sources. A.P. Bio has reached the end of its life.

Peacock has canceled the comedy series after four seasons, according to series creator Mike O'Brien.

“I’m sad to announce that A.P. Bio will not be renewed for a fifth season,” O’Brien wrote on Twitter.

“But mostly I’m feeling grateful right now. To all the fans who watched the show and fought for it to come back after the cancellation."

"And to Peacock [and Universal Television] for giving us two more seasons after that."

"This show has been one of the best experiences of my life and that’s because of the hundreds of hilarious, hard-working, positive people that were involved.”

A.P. Bio launched on NBC in 2018, and while it never had a big audience, it received acclaim.

NBC pulled the plug after two seasons, and Peacock quickly ordered a third season.

The 2022 Critics Choice Awards nominations for TV were announced on December 6 with HBO’s family drama “Succession” earning eight nominations. Next in line with five bids apiece were HBO’s limited series “Mare of Easttown” and Paramount +’s drama series “Evil.” The critics’ group also created a brand new category this year, Best Foreign Language Series, no doubt in response to the behemoth that is Netflix’s “Squid Game” — the Korean drama contends there and in two other categories. Succession nearly lapped the field as the Critics Choice Association announced its TV awards nominations today. The HBO drama nabbed eight noms, with the premium cabler’s Mare of Easttown and Paramount +’s Evil next with five apiece.

HBO edged Netflix for the most noms for the 27th annual Critics Choice Awards, scoring 20 to the streamer’s 18. Check out the full list of nominations below.

Written by Jackson loosely based on her life with Ruffin supervising, Aunties tells the story of what happens when a young woman goes back home and helps raise the women who raised her.

Jackson, who is also a performer, and Ruffin executive produce alongside Sethmaker Shoemeyers’ Meyers, Shoemaker and development executive Jason Carden. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.

The lines between what Jessie Spano and Nomi Malone did in Las Vegas are blurred during Season 2 of Peacock’s Saved by the Bell revival, which pays homage to Elizabeth Berkley Lauren‘s iconic role in the cult classic Showgirls.

Released in 1995 with a rare Nc-17 rating, the erotic drama centered on a street-smart drifter (Lauren) who ventured to Sin City to become a showgirl. Though the movie was widely panned at the time and made nary a dent at the box office, it has since found a second life on basic cable, where it has played ad nauseam since the mid ’90s.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched the second season of “Saved by the Bell,” streaming now on Peacock.

In conceptualizing her continuation series of “Saved by the Bell,” Tracey Wigfield knew there were certain things fans of the original series would be waiting to see. On the top of that list was the romantic reunion of Jessie Spano (Elizabeth Berkley Lauren) and A.C. Slater (Mario Lopez). After realizing they still had feelings for each other, they finally kissed again, 30 years in the making, in the second season finale.

Samuel "Screech" Powers' former friends joined forces at The Max to honor their late friend.

Diamond died in February of lung cancer at 44 years old.

Screech was not a part of the freshman season of the reboot, but the series teased that he moved to the International Space Station with his robot companion Kevin.

The episode picks up with Zack and Slater talking in the Bayside High School's parking lot, and we learn that Morris lost his re-election bid for governor of California to Prince Harry.

“Anyways, it doesn’t matter. Worst things happened this year,” Zack tells his friend before asking:

“Are you going to the thing at The Max?"

Peacock’s Saved By The Bell revival dropped its second season on Wednesday and the premiere features a tribute to Screech, the character played by Dustin Diamond who died in Feb. from cancer.

In the episode titled “The Last Year Dance,” the story picks up a year after the events from the Season 1 finale.

Zack Morris (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) and A.C. Slater (Mario Lopez) are casually catching up in Bayside High’s parking lot after the former has dropped off his son Mac Morris (Mitchell Hoog).

It’s is revealed that the elder Morris lost his re-election bid for Governor of California to Prince Harry before an ominous conversation takes place between the best pals about their buddy Screech.

“Anyways, it doesn’t matter. Worst things happened this year,” Zack tells Slater after confirming he lost the governorship. “Are you going to the thing at The Max?”

Slater replies, “I don’t know.

Even admirers of the movie “Showgirls” can concede that it was not a movie with its star’s best interests in mind.

The 1995 box-office bomb was, in its moment, pilloried for its indulgent taste for sleaze; with some distance, it’s possible to see it as director Paul Verhoeven’s lovingly manic embrace of American trash culture. But re-evaluating the movie hasn’t rescued the prospects of its star, Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, who as recently as last year said she was “bullied” for the role and made “a pariah in the industry I had worked so hard for.”

HBO has officially ordered The Weeknd’s drama series “The Idol,” Variety has learned.

The Weeknd will star in the six-episode series, which was first announced as being in development in June, as well as serving as the co-creator. Set against the backdrop of the music industry, the series centers on a self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult, who develops a complicated relationship with an up-and-coming pop idol.

Along with The Weeknd it was previously announced that Lily-Rose Depp would star in the series. Amy Seimetz is also now onboard to direct all six episodes. Variety has also learned that eight more actors have been added to the cast.

Suzanna Son (“Red Rocket”), Melanie Liburd, Tunde Adebimpe, Steve Zissis, Troye Sivan, Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, Nico Hiraga, and Anne Heche have all been cast in the series. Son, Zissis, and Sivan will all appear in series regular roles while the other five are recurring.

In news that will shock absolutely nobody, the amount of scripted TV series produced in 2020 fell for the first time in years, thanks to production troubles caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. But now, thanks to FX, we know just how much it dipped.

According to FX Research, the total number of scripted television series last year was 493, a 7% decline from 2019 (532). This combined total includes broadcast, basic cable, premium cable and streaming services. FX did not provide any further information or a breakdown of each platform, as it has done in past years.

Even with the downturn, the amount of series was still higher than every year prior to 2018. In 2020, that figure topped 500 for the first time.

Netflix continues to be a force to be reckoned with when it comes to the awards front.

GLAAD unveiled its nominations for 2021, and the streamer came out on top with 26 total nominations.

HBO Max garnered nine nominations, followed by HBO, Amazon and Hulu (which nabbed four each). Among broadcast networks, only ABC and NBC earned nods, with two each.

Harley Quinn, The Umbrella Academy, and Saved by the Bell were among this year’s first-time contenders.

On Thursday morning, Josie Totah (Saved By The Bell), D.J. ‘Shangela’ Pierce (We’re Here), and Jonathan Bennett (The Christmas House) took to GLAAD’s TikTok page to unveil the nominees for the 32nd annual GLAAD Media Awards. The winners will be announced during a virtual ceremony scheduled for April 2021.

GLAAD announced the nominations for its annual media awards on Wednesday, with “Schitt’s Creek,” “The Prom” and Lady Gaga among the nominees.

Streaming dominated the nominations for 2021, with films like Netflix’s “The Half of It” and Hulu’s “Happiest Season” among the film nominees and “Love, Victor,” “Dead to Me,” “Saved by the Bell” and “The Umbrella Academy” being recognized in the TV categories.

Netflix led with a total of 26 nominations, followed by HBO Max with nine. Amazon, Hulu and HBO all received four nominations, with Disney+ and PBS each receiving three. In total, streaming services account for 58 of the nominees, with cable receiving 29 and broadcast coming in at 14.

More than 33 million people have signed up for Peacock to date, NBCUniversal parent company Comcast revealed Thursday.

That’s up from the 26 million subscribers that NBCU CEO Jeff Shell said the the new streaming service had reached on Dec. 8. It’s also well ahead of previous targets as Comcast had previously projected Peacock would have up to 35 million subscribers by the end of 2024.

To give an idea of Peacock’s continued growth, in late October, Comcast CEO Brian L. Roberts revealed the platform was nearing 22 million sign-ups. Prior to that update, in mid-September, Comcast said the platform had just topped 15 million sign-ups after hitting 10 million sign-ups at the end of July.

The ad-supported service first became available to Comcast and Cox customers on April 15, three months before its full launch on July 15. Unlike HBO Max, Peacock is still not available on Amazon Fire TV devices, a huge player in the streaming world.
