Sony Group’s flagship anime subsidiaries Aniplex and Crunchyroll revealed Monday that they have partnered to establish Hayate, a joint venture anime production company based in Tokyo, Japan. The companies say the entity’s primary purpose is “planning, developing, and producing anime content for the Crunchyroll streaming service.” The investment continues Sony Group’s ongoing prioritization of anime as a key pillar of its growth strategy.
Aniplex is Sony’s longstanding in-house anime production and distribution unit, sitting under the conglomerate’s Sony Music Entertainment business line. Crunchyroll, meanwhile, is Sony Group’s international anime streaming service, which aims to be a hub that meets all the needs of the growing anime fanbase around the world. As of last July, Crunchyroll had over 15 million subscribers worldwide. The platform also operates a free, advertising-supported streaming option.
Hayate’s staff will be made up of current employees from both Aniplex and Crunchyroll.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is often regarded as one of the best modern anime adaptations, praised for its stunning animation and intense action sequences. To maintain its high quality, the franchise has also received several film adaptations, including Demon Slayer: Mugen Train. Surprisingly, one of the film’s most beloved characters had their fate revealed before the movie even premiered. Rengoku’s placement on the poster subtly foreshadows his tragic death, mirroring the way Tony Stark was positioned in Avengers: Endgame marketing.
In the recent Demon Slayer: Infinity Castleposter, one popular character's position has led many fans to believe they could suffer a tragic death before the film's end. If Shinobu Kocho dies during the upcoming Demon Slayer addition, she will be one of the latest to have her death predicted via the film's posters. While some fans believe this fan theory has gone too far, there is plenty...

Now this is quite interesting, or maybe even heartbreaking for a lot of fans. The news went viral when people got to know the upcoming Demon Slayer anime installment will completely change its episodic release format while adapting the manga’s one of the most hyped arcs, the Infinity Castle Arc!
According to some Japanese reports, we can expect to see a new movie every two years, with a total of 3 movies spanning the duration of a whopping 6 years!

However, the sad part is that amidst all the hype surrounding it, one major loophole has already been found in its marketing strategy. While the manga readers can easily see what’s going on, anime-only fans have no idea! They didn’t need to do the fans dirty with such an obvious promotional poster.

When we last left the fearless heroes of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, they had finished their training under the Hashira and, after months of getting kicked around, were preparing to enter the demon stronghold, the Infinity Castle, and take the fight to them. Then the season ended….and the truth is, there won’t be any more seasons.
By that we mean the remainder of Demon Slayer will henceforth be adapted as movies instead. If this displeases you, well, you’re the ones who made Demon Slayer: Mugen Train an international blockbuster in 2020. It became the highest grossing anime movie of all time, the highest grossing Japanese film at the global box office of all time, and the second highest grossing anime film in US box office history. It was all too much cash to ignore….though that doesn’t rule out the possibility of these movies getting carved into episodes eventually,...

In response to growing criticism and international scrutiny, Japan is taking decisive steps to address the long-standing issue of worker exploitation within its thriving anime industry.
New legislation aimed at protecting freelancers and a formal study by the Japan Fair Trade Commission (FTC) signal a significant shift towards improving labor practices in a sector that has seen exponential financial growth but persistent concerns over worker welfare.
This move comes in the wake of a United Nations report highlighting the anime industry’s poor treatment of workers, contrasting sharply with the industry’s global $21 billion sales and its importance as a key Japanese export.

Fans of Miss Konayashi's Dragon Maid recently got some exciting news with the new release of a teaser trailer for an upcoming anime movie. Titled Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Want to Be Loved, the film, set to be released in June 2025, promises to bring the same cozy reverse-isekai vibes as the original series, while also exploring more emotionally weighty themes and storylines to shake up the formula.
Via Oricon, Kyoto Animation -- the same studio behind beloved anime films such as A Silent Voice and Violet Evergarden: The Movie -- will produce the first-ever Dragon Maid feature film; the new trailer was released alongside a pencil-like visual to present a soft, comforting picture, while potentially hinting at a story that will take the franchise in a slightly new direction. In this movie, family will mean everything, which may actually threaten to tear apart Kobayashi's group of friends.

Sony Group unveiled a new focus to its business strategy on Monday at the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, and it was an area that sits somewhat adjacent to all of the things the Japanese conglomerate has long been famous for — electronics, gaming, Hollywood moviemaking and a richly valued music catalog. The firm suggested it was pinning a sizable share of its future growth on anime, the formerly niche content category that continues to impress analysts as one of Japan’s most lucrative cultural exports.

Makoto Shinkai films feature some of the most gorgeous visuals you’ve ever seen in any animated film. The director made history with Your Name as the second highest-grossing Japanese animated film, sitting near the likes of Spirited Away by Hayao Miyazaki and Demon Slayer: Mugen Train. Due to his rich storytelling and vibrant visuals, Shinkai has also been compared to the Studio Ghibli director and has sometimes been touted as the “next Miyazaki.” The Your Name director, however, vehemently disagrees with the sentiment.

Since the success of “Demon Slayer: Mugen Train,” which grossed nearly $50 million domestically in 2021, it’s been clear that anime will continue to be a major player at the specialty box office for years to come. Now, with Toho International’s acquisition of one of the medium’s top American distributors, Gkids, competition for the eyes and dollars of anime fans is about to step up.
It’s a natural fit for the two companies to be joining forces. Last December, Toho and GKids made box office history by pushing two Japanese-produced films into the top 3 at the U.S. box office on the same weekend. For Toho, it was “Godzilla Minus One,” the first ever film from cinema’s oldest franchise to win an Oscar, earning $56.4 million in America.

Anime’s worldwide success wasn’t something that happened overnight. It was a gradual success in which Hayao Miyazaki had a big hand. What the world of anime is now is leaps and bounds ahead of what it was decades ago. Even as such, there were some works that were simply creating a foundation for others to grow.

The Academy Awards, or as the world knows them, the Oscars, have been considered the biggest accolade in the entertainment industry, but the Japanese anime has not had much luck with them. The Oscars have a specific category for animated movies called the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, which was started in 2001, but as of yet, the anime industry has only won twice.

The first one was won by Spirited Away during the 75th Academy Awards, and the second was won by The Boy and the Heron during the 96th Academy Awards. Both of them were a production of Studio Ghibli and were created by Hayao Miyazaki, a legend in the game. However, there are still some other movies that, according to fans, deserve an Oscar or at least an Oscar nomination.

Hunter x Hunter anime unlikely to return soon due to lack of new adaptable material and Togashi's health. Togashi's new production system may reduce hiatuses, offering hope for more episodes in the future. Film adaptation of Hunter x Hunter arcs or one-shots might be viable, but no new episodes until manga completion.
The hugely successful anime adaptation of Hunter x Hunter, one of the most beloved shonen franchises ever, was launched in 2011. The series was brought to a close in episode #148, Past And Future, tracking up to manga chapter #339, Stillness. With no real information about its future, fans of the series are anxious that the 2011 show will wind up dead in the water, just like the first 1999 adaptation.
Unfortunately, the source material is the bottleneck. Creator Yoshohiro Togashi suffers from health issues, making it hard to work. Hunter x Hunter has been stuck in an infamous cycle of hiatuses:...

Anime has been big in the West ever since the days of “Sailor Moon” and “Speed Racer,” but these days, the Japanese art form has been getting mainstream shout outs left and right. At the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, multiple of the world’s greatest athletes celebrated their wins by striking poses or otherwise making reference to anime favorites like “Yu Gi Oh” and “One Piece.” Earlier this summer, Megan Thee Stallion released a whole song, “Otaku Hot Girl,” about her love for anime, referencing and sampling a song from “Jujutsu Kaisen.”

Sausage Party: Foodtopia is a streaming hit on Prime Video, ranking tenth on Reelgood's Top 10 TV shows chart. The sequel series features familiar voices like Seth Rogen and Kristen Wiig but lacks critical acclaim compared to the original movie. Reviews for Sausage Party: Foodtopia are mixed, with critics praising its crude humor but criticizing it as a rehash of old material.
Sausage Party: Foodtopia has become a streaming success on Prime Video. A sequel to 2016's Sausage Party, the adult animated comedy series picks up following the events of the film as Frank and friends create the titular Foodtopia safe haven, which is nearly destroyed by a massive flood, forcing them to partner with humans to ensure their survival. The Sausage Party: Foodtopia cast includes Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Michael Cera, David Krumholtz, and Edward Norton reprising their roles from the film with Will Forte, Natasha Rothwell, Sam Richardson, and Yassir Lester voicing new characters.

Despite having a relatively short run, “Demon Slayer” manages to hold onto its position against legendary shounen like “Naruto” and “One Piece” in the fiercely competitive industry of manga and anime. Since the release of the first chapter of “Demon Slayer” in February 2016, the manga series has achieved remarkable success in sales and captivating audiences worldwide. With only 23 volumes, Koyoharu Gotouge’s “Demon Slayer” has become the best-selling manga of 2023, showcasing its short yet impactful journey. This stands in striking contrast to “One Piece” creator Eiichiro Oda’s remarkable 109 volumes or “Naruto” creator Masashi Kishimoto’s legendary 72 volumes.

The film's crude humor was successful, but the series may struggle to maintain interest with eight episodes. It's the end of an era. Following the release of the final episode of "Demon Slayer" season 4, Crunchyroll announced it will release "Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle" as a trilogy of films to cap off the hugely popular adaptation of Koyoharu Gotoge's manga of the same name.
The anime follows Tanjiro Kamado, a boy whose family is killed by a demon and who decides to join the elite Demon Slayer Corps in order to find a way to turn his younger sister, Nezuko, into a human after she got transformed into a demon. This news may be surprising to some fans, especially considering the show just premiered in 2019 which — despite what the Covid-19 lockdowns did to our brains — was technically not that long ago. What's more, finishing the story with not just one but three films seems like a surprising move when anime movies based on TV shows are most often...

The previous episode of Hashira training arc marked the beginning of the final showdown that is about to take place between Muzan and the Demon Slayers. While his bold entry into the Ubuyashiki mansion might have stolen the headlines, the previous episode also delved into the past of the stronges Hashira – Gyomei Himejima.
With Tanjiro’s training being completed at the right time, he and the others will come together to face the biggest threat and also the final boss who is standing in front of them – Muzan Kibutsuji.
The final episode of Demon Slayer: Hashira Training arc is certainly going to live up to its hype, given how the plot has developed.

With each episode of Demon Slayer: Hashira Training Arc anime, Tanjiro, Zenitsu and the others are overcoming the obstacles and moving forward with the rigorous training regimes that are being put forth by the Hashiras.
While they cleared the training put forth by Mitsuri Kanroji and Obanai Iguro (comparitively faster) in the previous episode, Tanjiro and Zenitsu head to the strongest Hashira in the Demon Slayer next – Gyomei Himejima.
Surprisingly, episode 5 did not feature much of an anime original content, so it needs to be seen what happens in episode 6!

Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train set the standard for anime movies, blending beloved characters with stunning visuals. The film's success was due in part to its canon adaptation of the manga, a trend seen in other anime movies for popular franchises. Despite challenges like a global pandemic, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train became a box office juggernaut, paving the way for more anime movie success.
Demon Slayer is easily one of the biggest and most popular anime and manga franchises in recent years, and it's in many ways synonymous with the current anime boom in popular culture. Having fans the world over, it's become a bestseller in printed form and a must-see in its animated iteration. The Hashira are major players within the final story arcs of Demon Slayer. Many Hashira have tragic fates, dying in battle against their enemies. Even with their confirmed demises, the Hashira's legacies live on after Demon Slayer's end.
The Hashira started out as mysterious, seldom-seen characters in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. As the most powerful warriors in the Demon Slayer Corps, the Hashira are so strong that they fill the Lower Ranks of the Twelve Kizuki with terror. Even the Upper Ranks regard them with a healthy level of respect for their skills. As the series progressed, the Hashira became more and more involved, going from fleeting cameos to key players in several major story arcs. Unfortunately, not everyone made it to the end, leaving many to wonder which Hashira survived.

"Haikyuu!!" is one of the biggest anime in the world right now and certainly the biggest sports one — and it's easy to see why. This is the perfect gateway into sports anime, and a show that may make you fall in love with volleyball (even if you have never watched a second of volleyball) thanks to its sense of camaraderie, compelling and memorable characters, and ability to make any volleyball match seem like the most exciting life-or-death game in the world.
After four seasons of high school boys playing volleyball and making audiences emotional, "Haikyuu!!" is heading to its conclusion, with the Karasuno High School Volleyball Club facing the lights and finishing their final tournament together before the seniors graduate. To bring the story to a close, we're getting feature films that finish off the story, much like "The First Slam Dunk" did 30 years after the anime ended.

Demon Slayer anime is certainly hurtling towards its endgame, going by how the situation is shaping up! While the opening episode of the Hashira Training arc was relatively light-hearted, it did touch upon the aftermath of the Swordsmith village arc, and the especially the new demon slayer marks which Mitsuri and Muichiro received.
As a bonus we got a revelation of Muzan’s past.
The upcoming Demon Slayer Hashira Training Arc episodes will build on the discussion that Hashira had, and move on to the training that Tanjiro, Inosuke and Zenitsu will have to undergo.
While Tengen returns in the role of a teacher, Tamayo too will be making an appearance, playing a pivotal role in episode 2, and also the upcoming events.
As a battle with Muzan looms on the horizon, the stakes keep getting higher in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba.

If the '90s had the surprise hit "Dragon Ball Z," the '00s had "Naruto," and the 2010s had "Attack on Titan," then the 2020s unequivocally belong to "Demon Slayer." The manga by Koyuharu Gotouge and its anime adaptation by studio Ufotable took the world by storm the moment they debuted, with the manga becoming one of the best-selling ever, while the anime became an instant hit. The first film, "Demon Slayer: Mugen Train," overcame Hayao Miyazaki's classic "Spirited Away" to become the highest-grossing Japanese film ever in Japan and the highest-grossing film of 2020 worldwide.

Action shonen anime dominates the medium, for better and worse. Every big franchise eventually gets an original movie — or a dozen. "One Piece" has 15, "Dragon Ball" 24, and "Naruto" has 11.
The problem is that these mostly tend to be non canonical movies without much consequence. They are cute, fun adventures, for sure. Still, they are more concerned with providing fan service than providing substance. The best ones are those that manage to make the most out of their non canonical status and present truly experimental movies, like the best of the "One Piece" films.
Now comes "Spy x Family: Code White," a movie based on one of the most popular manga, published in Shonen Jump magazine — which makes this technically a shonen anime movie, regardless of its actual genre. The premise is simple. Loid is a spy, Yor is an assassin, and together they fake a family for convenience (and for...

Mugen Train broke the mold with its manga canon adaptation, breaking away from the traditional filler film format. The film's success paved the way for other studios to produce canon films, such as Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and Chainsaw Man. Fans have the option to watch the Mugen Train arc as a movie or in episode format, in order to watch the critical events crucial to the series' progression.
Demon Slayer: Mugen Train is one of the most successful movies of all time, anime or otherwise. It earned the title of highest-grossing Japanese film of all time, earning over $500 million worldwide. This is a remarkable achievement for any film, but an anime movie reaching this enormous level of success was quite surprising to imagine before Mugen Train's release.
The movie is beloved by fans as the best Demon Slayer movie so far, and it paved the way for more anime movies to be released theatrically,...
