Beetlejuice Beetlejuice star Jenna Ortega expresses interest in joining another iconic ‘80s horror franchise. The young star of Tim Burton’s recent Beetlejuice sequel has only been acting in films since 2013, but she’s well on her way to becoming a horror icon, boasting a filmography loaded with terrifying titles.

Ortega started her horror journey very early on, appearing in 2013’s Insidious: Chapter 2, but then stayed away from the genre until 2020’s satirical slasher The Babysitter: Killer Queen. The ’90s-set feature, which is “Cocaine Bear” scribe Jimmy Warden’s highly-anticipated directorial debut, is led by Samara Weaving, who plays a pop star stalked by Nicholson’s deranged character. Eric Dane is cast as Weaving’s bodyguard and only hope of escaping the contrived wedding planned by her obsessed fan. Alba Batista and Jimmie Fails also star.

The official synopsis reads: “‘Borderline’ is an edge-of-your-seat thriller that follows a dangerously persistent stalker (Nicholson) who invades the home of a ‘90s pop superstar (Weaving) with grand delusions of a wedding. With her life on the line and help from her loyal bodyguard, she must escape the stalker’s sinister grip before they tie the knot.

Denis Villeneuve is the kind of director actors seek out. Much like his buddy Christopher Nolan (who Villeneuve considers a master of the craft), the French Canadian filmmaker has earned enough name recognition to bring hordes to the theater -- which is exactly what he did with his two "Dune" movies. The supposedly "un-filmable" saga, first told in Frank Herbert's 1965 novel, was rendered in stunning detail across 2021's "Dune" and 2024's "Dune: Part Two," with Villeneuve reminding us of not only why he's one of today's pre-eminent directors, but of his knack for sci-fi storytelling.

Of course, it helped that the movie featured two of today's biggest stars, with Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya in the roles of Paul Atreides and Chani respectively. Helmed by James Cullen Bressack (Darkness of Man), the film follows a struggling actor, working as a waiter (Cook) who unwittingly becomes involved in a violent heist gone wrong, where his boss – deep in debt – has been stealing from employees and running the restaurant as a front for the mob.

The original screenplay was written by real life twins Kerry Donelli and Jacqueline Donelli (Unedited Footage of a Bear) who also star and produce.

Pic is produced by Sasha Yelaun (The Old Way) and Henry Penzi (Hellfire). Executive producers include Dane Cook under his company banner SuperFinger Ent and Darryl Quarles (Big Momma’s Franchise). Samara Weaving has confirmed her return in Ready or Not 2. The actor recently shared that she is on board to reprise her role from the 2019 original film as Grace for the upcoming horror sequel.

During an interview with ComicBook.com to promote her new horror movie Azrael, Weaving confirmed that she would be back for Ready or Not 2. "I'm all in. I think we're all in, I don't know. I think we're all in," she said, implying that the rest of the Ready or Not cast would also be returning, despite Weaving's Grace being the sole survivor of the original movie. "I don't know if we've had our blood handshake, but pretty much. We've done the spit handshake, but we haven't cut each other's hands and rubbed our blood together."

The actress has appeared in both big-budget blockbusters like Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and smaller indie films like Wyrm and The Fallout. Her roles in horror films like X, Insidious: Chapter 2, and the Scream franchise have earned her a place in the scream queen pantheon.

Wednesday Addams is the role that defines Ortegas career, but shes played a wide variety of characters. In addition to playing the Addams Familys morose daughter in her own TV spin-off, Ortega has played a school shooting survivor, an adult film star, and a Scream final girl who broke the trope in feature-length movies.

Even though Jenna Ortega is the star of recent Tim Burton projects like Wednesday and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, that doesn't mean she's earned every role she auditioned for with the celebrated filmmaker.

In fact, the actor sat down with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice co-star Michael Keaton as part of GQ's Epic Conversation series, and she reminisced about an audition for a Burton project that she failed to get. The role was in Burton's 2019 live-action adaptation of Dumbo, a film that also stars Keaton and which was the director's return to the industry after a three-year absence. Per Ortega's statement:

"I remember auditioning for Dumbo. I actually auditioned for Dumbo. I was like fourteen or something like that, and I was so excited. I couldnt believe that Tim was making a movie; it had been a minute. I was like, 'Ah man, this would just be an incredible opportunity.

I was very used to being told no.

It's not always knives, axes, and machetes in the horror genre. Sometimes the villains go about their killings in truly bizarre ways. There are death scenes that are just plain weird, while at the same time, insanely entertaining. These are the deaths that cause the audience to pause and try to figure out the logic of the death. Maybe they even make the viewer laugh because they're so out of the box.

When it comes to weird horror movie deaths, they're not necessarily kills that are brutal or creative. After all, there are plenty of deaths to choose from, like the memorable blender scene in You're Next or the surfboard decapitation in The Babysitter: Killer Queen. Strange horror movie deaths can certainly have elements of gore and uniqueness, but above all, they're meant to be bizarre and kind of head-scratching.

The Canadian-born comic and actor, also known as “King Bach,” has in all around 75 million fans online, especially on Vine, the shortform video-sharing platform.
