Shu Qi’s ‘The Resurrected’ Among Netflix-Heavy Busan Film Festival Drama Lineup
Image
The 30th Busan International Film Festival has unveiled its On Screen selections, featuring six premium drama series that will make their world premieres on the big screen before hitting streaming platforms, led by “The Resurrected,” starring international icon Shu Qi.

The Netflix production, co-directed by Leste Chan and Hsu Chao-jen, pairs Shu Qi with Lee Sinje as two mothers who resurrect a deceased voice phishing scammer to seek vengeance for their daughters’ deaths.

The lineup showcases Netflix’s dominance in the premium Asian content space, with the streamer claiming four of the six selections. The international mix includes three Korean productions and three international series set to screen during the festival.

Leading the Korean contingent is “As You Stood By,” the latest suspense thriller from director Lee Jeong-lim, whose previous credits include the genre-bending hits “VIP” and “Revenant.” The Netflix series stars Jeon So-nee (“Soulmate”) and Lee You-mi (“Squid Game...

How PlayThatBoiZay Overcame Tragedy to Make a Great South Florida Rap Album and Link Up With A$AP Rocky
Image
Second chances are precious and often compel us to catapult further than before. That’s the case with PlayThatBoiZay, the South Florida rapper who dropped his long-awaited VIP album in September. The heavily Kwes Darko-produced project is right on time not just because of its eerie, Spooky Szn-ready soundscapes, but also as it’s Zay’s first project since a May 2021 car accident that left him mentally and physically recovering for roughly nine months.

Before the accident, Zay was prepping VIP, his debut on Loma Vista Recordings, which boasts features from Kenny Mason,...

Here’s How Much It Costs to Unlock Everything in ‘Star Wars Hunters’
Image
Like nearly all of Zynga‘s mobile games, Star Wars Hunters relies on players putting down either a lot of grind or a lot of cash to unlock all of the season’s offerings. How much would it cost to unlock all of the skins, characters, stickers, and challenges? Let’s break it down.

While the game does offer daily rewards, the primary free currency (credits) cannot be used to buy every item in the store. Yes, it’s like every other freemium game out there where you have to contend with two or three different types of currencies.

Credits appear to only be the currency of choice on very few cosmetics at the moment. Even then, it would take you 4,250 credits to buy one Cerulean Warrior skin. After playing for about a week, I had more than enough, but it was the only item in the shop that took that form of payment.

Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery to Launch Disney+, Hulu, Max Streaming Bundle
Image
Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery — ordinarily rivals for consumers’ time and money — are teaming up for a triple-play bundle of Disney+, Hulu and Max.

The companies announced a new streaming bundle comprising Disney+, Hulu and Max will be available this summer in the U.S. There’s no pricing info or specific launch date at this point. Disney and Wbd said the bundle will be available for purchase on any of the three streaming platforms’ websites and offered as both an ad-supported and ad-free plan.

The apps and content from each company will remain separate. Disney recently integrated Hulu content into Disney+ for customers who have both services. Note that Hulu already has agreements to sell add-on subscriptions for Max and Paramount Global’s Paramount+ With Showtime.

The Disney+, Hulu and Max bundle will offer “the best value in entertainment and an unprecedented selection of content from the biggest and...

‘Queen Rock Montreal’ Coming to Disney+ With Imax Enhanced Sound by DTS
Image
“Queen Rock Montreal” will make its global streaming premiere May 15 on Disney+ as the first concert film available with Imax Enhanced sound by DTS.

When it arrived in theaters in January, the remastered 1981 concert was Imax’s biggest exclusive engagement. Now, it will debut on Disney+ alongside 18 Marvel films that will also be offered with Imax Enhanced sound on supported devices, Imax’s senior VP and head of Imax post and image capture Bruce Markoe announced during a panel Sunday at the Nab Show in Las Vegas.

The original concerts, featuring Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon, took place over two consecutive nights in November 1981, and were arranged specifically to be filmed for a full-length concert film to document their live show. The performance includes classics such as “Another One Bites the Dust,” “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Somebody to Love.” It was restored for Imax by Mercury Studios.

Showtime Streaming Service Is Shutting Down at the End of April
Image
After nearly nine years, Showtime’s streaming apps are fading to black.

The Showtime standalone service will be shut down on April 30, according to notices sent to subscribers. The end of Showtime’s streaming apps comes just less than a year after parent company Paramount Global integrated Showtime’s programming into the top-tier Paramount+ plan.

The company launched the Paramount+ With Showtime ad-free streaming package in June 2023, along with a price hike (from $9.99 to $11.99 per month). Originally, Paramount Global had said it expected to phase out the standalone Showtime streaming app around the end of 2023.

“Now that subscribers can access their favorite Showtime programs on Paramount+ by subscribing to the Paramount+ with Showtime plan, the Showtime streaming service will shut down on April 30, 2024,” a notice on the Showtime customer help site reads. “Current Showtime streaming subscribers will continue to have access to the Showtime streaming service until it is shut...

‘Avengers’ Director Joe Russo Predicts AI Could Be Making Movies in ‘Two Years’: It Will ‘Engineer and Change Storytelling’
Image
As artificial intelligence continues to disrupt the entertainment industry, many moviegoers have been left wondering at what point AI will be creating full feature films. According to Joe Russo, co-director of Marvel movies such as “Avengers: Endgame” and “Avengers: Infinity War,” that time could be coming in two years.

“I’m on the board of a few AI companies,” Russo told Collider. “I’m gonna speak from my experience of being on the board of those companies, [so] there are AI companies that are developing AI to protect you from AI. And unfortunately, we’re in that world, and you will need an AI in your life because whether we want to see it developed or not, people who are not friendly to us may develop it anyways. So, we’re going to be in that future. The question is, then, how we protect ourselves in that future?”

When asked in...
