Warner Bros. Discovery shelved Coyote vs. Acme in November 2023 for a tax write-off. Since then, the cast has been very vocal about trying to make the movie happen.

Gareth West’s distributor-financier Ketchup Entertainment is now involved in negotiations with the studio, hoping to acquire the rights for the film in the $50 million range. This comes after Ketchup saved a different Looney Tunes project, The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, currently in theaters. Warner Bros. wrote the film off for tax purposes for $30 million.

So far, the two haven't reached an official agreement.

The year 2021 was wildly impactful and a standout year for modern cinema, seeing a wide array of dynamic and highly acclaimed releases that have already cemented powerful legacies for themselves. Most Looney Tunes movies that made it to theaters in the past deserved to be hit with a few sticks of dynamite. But that’s not the case with The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, out now in theaters. Unlike many of its predecessors, The Day the Earth Blew Up is neither over-budgeted nor underwhelming; in fact, it manages to capture the spirit of the original Looney Tunes shorts, especially those of director Bob Clampett, pretty wonderfully.

While each of the classic Looney Tunes directors had their own unique stamp, Clampett’s cartoons were generally regarded as the silliest and most unpredictable, which is precisely what we see with The Day the Earth Blew Up. Starring Daffy Duck and Porky Pig in a Dumb and Dumber-like buddy comedy in which the duo must save the planet from an alien invasion, the film is a gag-filled romp.

Coyote vs. Acme may not ever see the light of day over at Warner Bros., but the new Looney Tunes movie certainly reminds fans of what could have been. Hitting theaters today, The Day the Earth Blew Up is a fully animated treasure trove of laughs that takes us back to the golden age of the franchise with both its animation style and the zany antics seen throughout. Nicolas Cage is continuing to expand his wild filmography by dipping his toes into the western genre. In November 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery shelved Coyote vs. Acme for a tax write-off. Although Wbd reversed its decision and allowed the movie to be acquired by other distributors, there have been no takers yet, leading many to worry that the Looney Tunes movie will never see the light of day.

However, according to voice actor Eric Bauza, it's not entirely over yet for Coyote vs. Acme.
