‘The Cat in the Hat’: Everything to know about the ‘Seussiverse’-launching animated feature
Image
Talk about cat-itude. Following in the pawsteps of Mike Myers and Martin Short, Bill Hader is the latest actor to embody Dr. Seuss's iconic chapeau-wearing feline in Warner Bros. Animation's upcoming animated version of The Cat in the Hat. Due in theaters on Feb. 27, the release marks the return of the studio's previously dormant theatrical animation division, which teased a full slate of new feature-length cartoons at CinemaCon earlier this year.

The CinemaCon crowd was also treated to early footage from the The Cat in the Hat, including some non-finished sequences. But all the digital ink and paint is dry on the first trailer for the film, which debuted today and promised plenty of Seussian imagery and tomfoolery.

Hader, for one, is happy to provide the voice for the Cat in the Hat's latest onscreen life. "I remember reading the book as a kid and then reading it to my own kids,...

Update: Lewis Pullman in talks to join Bill Pullman, Rick Moranis & Keke Palmer in the new Spaceballs movie
Mel Brooks, Bill Pullman, John Candy, Rick Moranis, and Daphne Zuniga in La Folle Histoire de l'espace (1987)
Update: The new Spaceballs movie is turning into a family affair. THR reports that Lewis Pullman (Thunderbolts*) is in talks to join his father, Bill Pullman, in the upcoming Spaceballs sequel. As you might expect, the younger Pullman will play the son of Queen Vespa (Daphne Zuniga) and Lone Starr (Bill Pullman), who is named Starburst.

— Original article follows —

Thirty-eight years after Mel Brooks took George Lucas’s Star Wars universe to task with the 1987 comedy classic Spaceballs, the 98-year-old filmmaker is up to his old tricks with a new Spaceballs movie coming in 2027! On Thursday, Brooks announced the film’s targeted release year through a hilarious teaser lampooning the absurd number of sequels and spin-offs from other franchises. In addition to the official announcement, Deadline says Rick Moranis and Bill Pullman are returning for the new Spaceballs movie, with Keke Palmer joining the cast.

Before you ask, yes, Mel...

Fresh Off The Boat Cast: Where The Actors Are Now
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

It's hard to believe that five whole years have passed since "Fresh Off the Boat" ended in 2020. Though many of us have blocked out the trauma of that year due to the pandemic, about a month before the world shut down, the trailblazing ABC comedy series put a satisfying bow on its run after six seasons.

The show was received positively by audiences and critics for the performances of marquee stars Randall Park and Constance Wu, as well as the charming family dynamics on display. In addition to the performances, "Fresh Off the Boat" was a beacon of Asian-American representation on TV. It remains the first and only series featuring an all-Asian main cast to reach 100 episodes, making it also the longest-running Asian-American family sitcom in history.

Since the final episode, the cast has taken very different career paths. Some are cementing themselves in Hollywood,...

Nick Kroll Teases His New 'Big Mouth' Follow-Up About "Dating and F—ing as Adults"
Image
The Bridgeton kids may have said farewell, but Nick Kroll isn't parting ways with the team behind Big Mouth just yet. Last month, Netflix announced that the co-creator and star of the platform's longest-running series would be back at the helm of a new animated show, Mating Season, with similarly raunchy themes. Set to premiere in 2026, it swaps the middle-to-high school setting for the great outdoors, following a cast of bears, raccoons, deer, foxes, and more creatures navigating the messiness of sexual relationships as they try to fulfill their desire to hook up. Moreover, it reunites Kroll with the same creative team, including his friend Andrew Goldberg, alongside Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett. With Season 8 of Big Mouth now officially behind him, he's ready to tease what the future holds in his new comedy.

Kroll appeared on Monday's episode of Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard for a wide-ranging conversation in...

Smurfs (2025): Release Date, Cast, Plot, and All You Need to Know
Image
The Smurfs are back, but whether that’s a good thing or not, we’re not quite sure. These blue creatures have been a pop culture staple for decades, and now they’re making a comeback in Smurfs, a reboot set for release in 2025. Unlike previous adaptations, however, this one will be a musical, with, perhaps, more surprises along the way.

PG movies are making a box office comeback, even outperforming PG-13 films last year. Paul Dergarabedian from Comscore says they’re becoming a real summer force. And while streaming is always there, filmmakers like Dean Fleischer Camp (Lilo & Stitch) believe nothing beats the magic of a movie theater, especially for kids.

With an all-star cast and an attempt to break down the Smurf mythology, this could either be a delightful trip down memory lane or yet another miss for the franchise. Let’s break it all down, and what we know about the project.

Keke Palmer's New Comedy Breaks An 11-Year-Old Rotten Tomatoes Record Even Two Recent Acclaimed Hits Couldn't
Image
Keke Palmer's new comedy One of Them Days has broken a Rotten Tomatoes record. The movie, which was produced by Insecure's Issa Rae, was directed by Lawrence Lamont (who previously collaborated with Rae on Max's Rap Sh!t) from the debut screenplay by Syreeta Singleton (who was the showrunner of Rap Sh!t). It co-stars Palmer and singer-songwriter Sza as best friends Dreux and Alyssa alongside an ensemble cast that includes Vanessa Bell Calloway, Maude Apatow, Katt Williams, Dewayne Perkins, Lil Rel Howery, and Janelle James.

The new Keke Palmer movie is the latest in a string of prominent projects for the actor, who kicked off her career in the mid 2000s and first rose to prominence when she starred opposite Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett in 2006's Akeelah and the Bee. She parlayed this success as a child actor into roles in projects such as Disney's Jump In! and Nickelodeon's True Jackson,...

Whatever Happened To The Cast Of The League?
Image
Created by Jeff & Jackie Schaffer, one of FX's most popular comedy series was "The League," which ran for seven seasons from 2009 to 2015. The raucous sitcom follows a group of friends in Chicago who run a highly competitive fantasy football league every year, creating their own challenges, rewards, and penalties. Along the way, the ensemble endures their own hilarious highs and lows involving romance and family life in between planning their fantasy teams. Throughout the show's run, the group is joined by several memorable guest stars and recurring characters, including the occasional real-life football player getting in on the fun.

Led by a solid ensemble cast of talented comedians, "The League" introduced beloved, crass characters framed against the backdrop of fantasy sports. Since the show's ending in 2015, many of the cast members have gone on to continue their film and television careers, while others haven't reached the same level of success.

“Exhausted” Florence Pugh Explains Reason Behind First Summer Break
Image
As you may or may not have noticed, Florence Pugh took a breather from acting this summer, a rare break for the self-described “work maniac.”

In an interview with British Vogue, the costar (with Andrew Garfield) of the soon-to-be-released romance-drama We Live In Time said she took a break from acting recently for the first time in a career that goes back to 2014’s The Falling and more recently included roles in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two.

The time-out marked the “first time ever in my career when I’ve actually asked for a summer break”, she tells the magazine. “I’m an absolute work maniac, [but] I can see I’m exhausted.”

Since 2023, Pugh has had on-screen or voice roles in The Trident, A Good Person, Human Resources, Oppenheimer, The Boy and the Heron, Dune: Part Two and We Live in Time. She’ll...

Ali Wong Standup Special ‘Single Lady’ Lands October Premiere Date at Netflix
Image
Ali Wong is returning to Netflix with her latest standup special, “Single Lady.” The upcoming event will premiere globally on the streamer Oct. 8.

Filmed during the Netflix Is a Joke Fest 2024 at the The Wiltern Theatre, this special will see the comedian open up about her post-divorce life and quest for love. The Kid In All of Us: Demand for Adult Animation Is On a Roll
Image
If you thought you left cartoons behind with your childhood, most major streaming platforms might have a thing or two to say about that.

Quietly, deliberately, one animated series after another is becoming the next big offering, whether it’s Netflix’s Castlevania and Arcane series or Prime’s The Legend of Vox Machina.

From a distance, Bojack Horseman seems like a bizarre Indie cartoon straight out of left field.

(Courtesy of Netflix)

However, it has remained above 90% throughout the six seasons in critical and audience reviews. How’s that for a horse that walks on two legs and carries on conversations?

As it turns out, high-quality, well-written animated shows are a boon for streaming platforms. This is especially true, considering 60% of adults between 18 and 49 watch them.

Not bad. With the increase in video game adaptations, some of which are becoming animated narratives, the kid in you has every reason to celebrate.

High-minded, progressive and literate, Laurent Cantet made a trio of brilliant films | Peter Bradshaw

In Human Resources, Time Out and The Class, the Palme d’Or-winning film-maker – who has died aged 63 – addressed French and European society at all levels

Laurent Cantet was a classic product of the French cinema industry: a deeply intelligent, high-minded progressive film-maker of the same generation as Robin Campillo and Dominik Moll whose supremely literate, emotionally committed, stylish and well-acted movies aspired to address French and European society at all levels.

Cantet made films that you could imagine being discussed around a gregarious dinner table of fashionable Parisians, with glasses being avidly drained and refilled all round – in fact, you could imagine Cantet himself talking about his work at just this kind of gathering.

Lilly Wachowski to Direct Queer Dramedy ‘Trash Mountain’
Image
Lilly Wachowski is officially making her solo feature directorial debut after sister Lana Wachowski helmed “The Matrix Resurrections.”

As confirmed to Collider, Lilly will direct upcoming queer dramedy “Trash Mountain,” with lead actor Caleb Hearon penning the script. Colin Trevorrow has signed on as a producer, along with Eddie Vaisman and Julia Lebedev at Sight Unseen.

Per the official synopsis, “Trash Mountain” follows a gay Chicago man in his 20s who must return to rural Missouri to deal with the death of his father — an obsessive hoarder who has left a house full of items, some valuable and some not so, to pick through. “Human Resources” writer and “Fargo” actor Hearon cowrote the script with Ruby Caster.

“When my pal Caleb Hearon sent me ‘Trash Mountain,’ I leapt at the chance to direct it,” Lilly said in a statement. “So beautiful and sad and funny! Queer representation and stories are...

The Matrix Co-Director Is Finally Back With A New Movie – But It's Not Science Fiction
Image
It's difficult to encapsulate the importance of Lana and Lilly Wachowski as directors. While the queer crime thriller "Bound" marked the sisters' directorial debut, it was their 1999 hit "The Matrix" that completely changed the landscape of science-fiction cinema forever. In 2021, the franchise's fourth installment, "The Maxtrix Resurrections" was released, but the film was a solo directorial venture from Lana Wachowski. Lilly has not directed a film since 2015's "Jupiter Ascending," but spent time directing season 1 of "Sense 8" and serving as the showrunner for "Work in Progress." The former was yet another sci-fi epic, but the latter is a sweet, semi-autobiographical queer dramedy starring Abby McEnany. It seems that working on this series must have inspired Lilly to continue similar creative ventures because according to a report from Collider, her next feature film is "Trash Mountain" starring Caleb Hearon.

Hearon co-wrote the film with Ruby Caster ("Bleeding Love"), and the...

Hugh Jackman's Rick & Morty Cameo Confirms A Surprising New Trend Over Past 3 Years
Image
Hugh Jackman makes a big cameo in Rick and Morty season 7, showcasing one of the show's biggest celebrity cameos to date. In the episode, Jackman joins Rick and the gang, instigating wild antics and becoming fully accepted as a member of the friend group. This cameo continues a trend for Jackman, as his last five TV credits have all been for adult animation voice roles, making animation cameos easier for the primarily film actor.

Glass Onion Cast & Character Guide
Image
Warning: This post contains minor spoilers for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

The cast of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is a veritable who's who of Hollywood stars, and is jam-packed with recognizable names in nearly every role. Written and directed by Rian Johnson, Glass Onion moves the franchise to Greece and follows detective Benoit Blanc as his invitation to a billionaire's murder mystery party turns into a very real whodunit. Just as whip-smart as Johnson's first Knives Out, Glass Onion is not only a gripping mystery but also offers clever lampooning of the movie's over-the-top luxury class.

Continuing many of the thematic trends established in 2019's Knives Out, Glass Onion pushed things even further as the satire took center stage, and it was handsomely praised by critics for its clever writing. Johnson earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay, and Glass Onion proved...

10 Ways Humans Resources Is Actually Better Than Big Mouth
Image
Human Resources is actually better in comparison to its flagship series, Big Mouth, in various key ways. That's not to say Big Mouth is not amazing in its own right as one of Netflix's biggest and most awarded adult animation series, but Human Resources successfully overtakes its predecessor with several distinct characteristics. As Big Mouth's spinoff subseries, Human Resources opens up the opportunity for audiences to experience an entirely new world within the franchise.

Still, though, Human Resources's two seasons champions some of the best features of Big Mouth — the crude hilarity and "no holds barred" mentality masterfully layered overtop of very deep and compelling storylines makes Human Resources a special success that is also an ode to the original series. However, the addition to Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg's Big Mouth brainchild is, in a number of ways, just a cut above.

Mes premières fois (2020)
Here’s What’s New on Netflix in June 2023
Mes premières fois (2020)
As we creep towards summer, Netflix has a hot new list of fresh content, including the final season of “Never Have I Ever,” the sophomore season of ‘Human Resources” and the highly anticipated sixth season of “Black Mirror.”

Kicking off the start of the month on mega streamer are lots of family-friendly goodies like both “Nanny McPhee” and “Nanny McPhee Returns,” “Kicking and Screaming,” “Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius” and the “Angry Birds Movie.” But the adults won’t be left out of the conversation, as more mature flicks and series like “Jarhead,” “Funny People” and “We’re the Millers” are also hitting the platform this month.

And it wouldn’t be Netflix without its originals. “Take Care of Maya,” “Extraction 2” and the Sarah Snook-led “Run Rabit Run” will land on the site in June. And even if this isn’t enough to get you watching, Netflix will be streaming its Tudum festival on Saturday,...

Last weekend, the streaming giant welcomed all seasons of Ben 10, the drama movies Living and Stronger, the documentary Ordinary Men: The Forgotten Holocaust, the Bollywood action movie Sahasam Swasaga Sagipo, the Indian movie Srimannarayana, the Colombian rom-com To Love is to Grow, and the comedy-drama A Lot Like Love, along with the docuseries Arnold, season 4 of Never Have I Ever, and season 2 of Human Resources.

This weekend, Netflix will add a variety of titles to its catalog of licensed content, such as Christopher Nolan’s war drama Dunkirk, all seasons of Tom and Jerry Tales, the British docuseries When Missing Turns to Murder, season 2 of the true-crime docuseries Cold Case Files, the action fantasy movie 47 Ronin, the sports biopic Race,...

12 Creatures & Monsters In Big Mouth's Human Resources Spinoff Explained
Image
Human Resources, a spinoff of Big Mouth, explores the monster workplace of the popular Netflix series and introduces numerous new creatures that make up this universe. Viewers met plenty of the show's beings in the parent show as they were assigned to be the main characters' Hormone Monsters, Lovebugs, and so on. However, while Big Mouth mainly centers around the lives of preteens and teenagers as they go through puberty, the creatures in Human Resources also help adults as they go through motherhood, lost love, and more.

The Big Mouth spinoff premiered in March 2022, and a month later, the streaming service renewed it for a second season, which dropped in June 2023. Unfortunately, Netflix canceled Human Resources after season 2. The good news is that the monsters and creatures will continue to appear in Big Mouth seasons 7 and 8, with the eighth season serving as the adult animated show's last outing.

This Cameo Makes ‘Human Resources’ Final Season Better
Image
When it comes to the Netflix Big Mouth spinoff Human Resources, the series has done a bit to step up its storytelling game in Season 2, especially with Alice Wong’s cameo appearance as a recurring character. For people who don’t know, Wong is a prominent disability rights activist as well as the author of Year of The Tiger: An Activist's Life, a memoir about her life experiences as a disabled person and an advocate for people with disabilities. In Season 2 of Human Resources, the activist makes an appearance as a fictionalized version of herself, navigating sex and romance with the aid (and dysfunction) of her love bug, Rochelle Hillhurst.

Human Resources season 2 has a slew of celebrity guests, including Miley Cyrus and Florence Pugh. The series premiered on Netflix in 2022 as a spinoff of Big Mouth and follows the monsters introduced in the original series. Nick Kroll, Aidy Bryant, Keke Palmer, and Maya Rudolph all voiced characters in season 1, and they've all returned for the second and final season. The show includes several storylines per episode, often spreading plots throughout the season. Season 2 has some touching storylines about learning to love after loss and advocating for those who need a voice.

The Netflix series has no shortage of comedy this season, which is amplified by some of the famous comedians guest starring. Why Netflix Canceled Human Resources After Season 2
Image
Big Mouth’s spinoff Human Resources is ending after only two seasons. Following the Hormone Monsters from the massively successful Netflix adult animated series Big Mouth, Human Resources adds to the Big Mouth universe with Love Bugs, Logic Rocks, and Ambition Gremlins, to name a few. Big Mouth and Human Resources have surpassed more than one billion hours viewed on Netflix, making it one of the streaming platform’s most popular animated series – making Netflix's decision to cancel even more peculiar.

In April 2023, it was announced that Human Resources' second season would be its last. With Big Mouth’s popularity, this came as a bit of a shock. After all, Big Mouth’s announced eighth season makes it the longest-running adult scripted original series in Netflix history, surpassing Grace & Frankie at seven seasons. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and Nick Kroll’s Big Mouth will end...

Human Resources Cast & Character Guide: What The Voice Actors Look Like
Image
Netflix's Big Mouth spinoff Human Resources brings back some actors and characters from the original series, but others in the Human Resources cast make their debut in the spinoff. Human Resources has various returning characters from Big Mouth, such as Maury, Connie, Mona, and Tito, but it also introduces new monsters, starting with Emmy the lovebug. While hormone monsters are still central to the show, other monsters take center stage, too, including shame wizards, logic rocks, ambition gremlins, and even need monsters. Human Resources sees the monsters in their individual working relationships with the humans assigned to them, but it also shows teamwork when their humans are particularly overwhelmed.

Contrary to the original show, Human Resources does not only focus on puberty and all the different feelings involved with it, as the humans managed by the monsters tend to be adults. The spinoff also focuses a lot more on the monsters’ personal lives,...

What to watch this weekend June 9, 2023: TV awards contenders
Image
If there is a silver lining to being stuck inside because our air quality is dangerous and unhealthy as a result of the Canadian wildfires, it’s that we have more time to watch TV. June is off to a hot start, too, with several awards contenders for next year’s Emmys debuting new seasons this week.

The fourth and, sadly, final season of Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher’s coming-of-age dramedy “Never Have I Ever” hit Netflix on Thursday. With the show’s trademark sense of humor firmly in place, the final episodes — which are expertly narrated once again by tennis icon John McEnroe (Emmy voters should really take notice) — Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) and her friends navigate their senior year of high school and all the familiar trappings of trying to make plans for the future while still figuring out who you are and what you want. And, yes,...

‘Human Resources’ (2022-) Season 2 on Netflix: The Power of an “Absurd” Provocation
David Thewlis, Rosie Perez, Maria Bamford, Hugh Jackman, Maya Rudolph, Randall Park, Keke Palmer, Nick Kroll, and Aidy Bryant in Human Resources (2022)
Human Resources is an adult animated series created by Jennifer Flackett, Kelly Galuska, Andrew Goldberg, Nick Kroll and Mark Levin.

From the “wicked” world of Big Mouth comes the second season of this very badass series that turns this (professional) mischief into something fun, at least for a few minutes. Whether one gets tired of it or not is up to the viewer.

Human Resources

Absurd and crude, great in some of its dialogues, reflective… Human Resources continues with its tone of ludicrous parody that mixes The Office with Big Mouth itself and that, yes, manages to amuse in a South Park style, with that humor that you either love or hate but that, at least, has the honesty to try, in its provocative style, many times, just for the sake of it.

And other times, perhaps not by chance, in that provocation it finds the perfect formula to tell us something totally coherent.

'Human Resources' Season 2 Review: Animated Series Peaks in Final Episodes
Image
Watching Season 1 of Human Resources was the animated series equivalent to going through doodles of a notebook from a 15-year-old. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but, more often than not, the Big Mouth spin-off favored repetitive dick jokes and scatological humor while structure took a bit of a backseat. That’s the main reason why Season 2 is such a huge improvement on the first, with a batch of episodes that look and feel like the series is finally able to wield its full potential.

But you’ve never seen Miley quite like this.
