In 2019, 37-year-old Rachel Accurso was looking for a show for her young son Thomas, who had a speech delay. Frustrated by the lack of kids’ TV series that encouraged language development, Accurso, who has a master’s degree in music education, started a YouTube channel out of her living room with her Broadway music director husband Aron. They created song-filled videos and content designed to encourage speech milestones.
Today, “Ms. Rachel” has over 12.2 million subscribers, and Accurso recently launched a merchandise line at Target and Walmart. This mom saw a hole in children’s programming, so she filled it herself — and now she’s a household name.
Accurso’s story helps explain why children are shifting to YouTube in vast numbers and why Gen Alpha is deserting linear television. Unlike traditional television, YouTube is being driven largely by homegrown creators, and as it grabs more eyeballs, linear TV executives are...

Forget butterfly clips, trucker caps, and flip phones: nothing screams the early 2000s like a Neopets or RuneScape-style online PC game. Growing up in the 2000s, the free-to-play landscape was immensely different. Hundreds of thousands of Flash games were available for free online, from the fan-made to the corporate promotional. Mostly short and sweet, these games could run even on a lower-end PC. Microtransactions were nearly unheard of, and many made games for the simple joy of creation (and a healthy dose of ad revenue). They weren't always good, but they were usually free.
Unfortunately, the browser game landscape changed drastically when Adobe stopped supporting Flash Player in 2020. This was the platform many online games were built on, and without it, many of these sites will never again see the light of day. Browser games can still run on Java, and many still exist, but the popularity of free online browser games has undeniably dwindled.

Remember Barney? He's back... in CG-animation form.
New images, character details, and a teaser trailer have been revealed for Barney's World, a new animated series for children that reintroduces the famous purple dinosaur. The series has been described as a "modern revival," ditching the live-action format of the '90s version of the show in favor of CG-animation. Also revealed by Mattel is that Jonathan Langdon, who recently appeared in the M. Night Shyamalan movie Trap, will serve as the voice of Barney. Other cast members include Bryn McAuley (Hotel Transylvania: The Series) as Baby Bop and Jonathan Tan (Rubble & Crew) as Billy, while the child characters include Jayd Deroch (Super Why's Comic Book Adventures) as David, Diana Tsoy (CoCo Melon Lane) as Mel, and Ella Paciocco (Vocal Star) as Vivie.
