Uncork’d Entertainment rolls out a black carpet of death with their new creature feature The Deadly Swarm, which flies onto Digital and On Demand outlets today, April 2nd.
In the tradition of films like The Swarm (1978) and Black Swarm (2007), The Deadly Swarm comes from producer Tyler James.
From writer and director David Gregory (Krampus: The Return), Uncorkd’s The Deadly Swarm follows a group of cash desperate friends who attend a medical trial retreat.
“Lured under false pretenses and run by the suspicious Dr. Feldman, little do they know that the doctor has unwittingly created a race of killer flies, and they are hungry for blood.”
Uncork’d previews, “The Deadly Swarm offers genre enthusiasts good old-fashioned fun with inventive effects. For fans of Gremlins, The Howling, and Critters, it promises a nostalgic yet fresh take on creature horror.” Of course what they don’t mention is that unlike those aforementioned classics,...

Halmi Facing Bankruptcy
Hollywood producer Robert Halmi's movie company is facing bankruptcy after racking up an estimated $600 million (£400 million) in unpaid debts.
Rhi Entertainment, the firm behind TV movies including 10.5 Apocalypse and Black Swarm, assumed the debt with 14 lenders when Halmi reacquired his company from Hallmark Entertainment executives in 2006.
Speaking about the acquisition at the time, Halmi told trade paper Daily Variety, "Clearly, we were over-leveraged. But we're still in business, still making films and business now is pretty good."
But Halmi has revealed the company is now restructuring its "corporate equity structure", which could include filing for bankruptcy.

Robert Halmi's movie company could be heading for bankruptcy court. Rhi Entertainment, which has produced TV movies including "10.5 Apocalypse" and "Black Swarm," is restructuring its "corporate equity structure," which could include filing for bankruptcy, according to Variety. The plan might also mean the company would no longer be publicly held. Rhi reportedly needs to restructure roughly $600 million in debt with 14 lenders. The company assumed that debt when Halmi reacquired his company from Hallmark Entertainment in 2006, according to Variety. "Clearly, we were over-leveraged," Halmi told Variety regarding the 2006 reacquisition.

We begin with the wackiness that is Minoru Kawasaki, the filmmaker responsible for The Calamari Wrestler and Monster X Strikes Back: Attack the G8 Summit, and the DVD release of his silly and surreal 2005 animal costume slasher/thriller/comedy Executive Koala.
Tamara is just an average Japanese salaryman working for a pickle company except for the fact that he suffers from periodic memory loss, his vanished years earlier, and he happens to be a six-foot tall koala bear. His latest girlfriend is murdered and he becomes the prime suspect. Tamara joins forces with his boss (a white rabbit) and a friendly convenience store clerk (a frog) to prove his innocence.
Synapse Films will be treating us Americans to Executive Koala on November 18th (pre-order it here!), releasing it as part of what they are calling "The Minoru Kawasaki Collection". The other two in the collection, also being released on the 18th,...
