Hunger Games DoP Tom Stern and 12 Years a Slave cinematographer Sean Bobbitt among those chosen for jury duty.

The 21st Camerimage, the International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography (Nov 16-23), has revealed the competition jurors who will judge entries at this year’s event in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

Chicago – A glance at the premise of Ben Sombogaart’s “Bride Flight” would lead one to believe that the entire film chronicled the 1953 long distance air race from London to Christchurch, New Zealand. Yet that backdrop merely serves as the launching pad for a plethora of melodramatic fireworks. Despite occasional moments of hokum, the film benefits greatly from its three splendid leads.

Instead of focusing on the race itself, Marieke van der Pol’s script centers on a trio of female immigrants from Holland who board the plane known as The Flying Dutchman (dubbed “Bride Flight”) to meet their fiancés as they make a new home in New Zealand. Yet a chance encounter with a handsome young ladykiller, Frank (Waldemar Torenstra), proves to have a lasting impact on their lives. What follows is a relatively standard romantic tearjerker much like “Bridges of Madison County” with a dash of post-wwii intrigue.

On Sept. 20, Music Box Films Home Entertainment will release the 2008 Dutch epic romantic drama Bride Flight on Blu-ray and DVD, for the suggested retail prices of $38.94 and $29.95, respectively.

The movie tells the tale of three Dutch beauties — Marjorie (Elise Schaap), Ada (Karina Smulders) and Esther (Anna Drijver) — who meet on an airplane in the aftermath of World War II as they’re emigrating to New Zealand to meet their husbands-to-be. During the flight, the three become fast friends before meeting Frank (Waldemar Torenstra), a dashing young man who also yearns to start a new and better life. It’s this chance meeting that will mark a changing point in their lives—a destiny-altering encounter that will be revealed to the women when they reunite 50 years later at Frank’s funeral.

If this story had been filmed in the 1930′s during the ” golden age’ of Hollywood it might have been condescendingly referred to as a “woman’s picture”. Jack Warner might have cast Bette Davis, Oliva DeHaviland, and Miriam Hopkins as the three female leads. Perhaps that important lead male role would have gone to George Brent ( or later in the decade by Errol Flynn ). But this tale begins in the modern age and spends most of it’s time in the early 1950′s. And while MGM or Warners would’ve shot on the studio back lot and on nearby California ranches, this film showcases the scenic wonders on New Zealand. The biggest release of the week is also one of my most anticipated of the year: J.J. Abrams' Super 8. Although I've heard some mixed things about the movie, it's still sitting fairly strong on Rotten Tomatoes [1] at 83%. Unfortunately, tracking reports are saying that the movie may not do so well, probably due to the lack of star power and the mysterious marketing. Can it top X-Men: First Class? After last week's report featured no major titles, the Motion Picture Association of America's Classification and Ratings Administration was back this week with a lengthy list of new ratings for movies like Red Riding Hood, Larry Crowne and The Lincoln Lawyer. Red Riding Hood was rated PG-13 for "violence and creature terror, and some sensuality." This rating reaffirmed that the movie will be geared more towards the Twilight audience and less towards creature feature fans. Cologne, Germany -- Dutch/Irish co-production "Nothing Personal," a feature debut from Polish-born director Urszula Antoniak won big at this year's Golden Calves, the Dutch national film awards, taking four trophies, including that for best film.

The story of a woman who abandons her life and all her possessions in the Netherlands for a nomadic lifestyle in Ireland, also secured nods in the best director, best cinematography and best sound design categories. The film stars Lotte Verbeek and Stephen Rea.

Martin Koolhoven's World War II epic "Winter in Wartime" picked up three Golden Calves, for best actor Martijn Lakemeier, a 16-year-old first-timer, best supporting actor Raymond Thiry and best production design. Director Esther Rots, another first-timer, scooped three trophies for her intimate drama "Can Go Through Skin," taking Golden Calves for best actress Rifka Lodeizen and best editing prizes along with a special Jury award.

German actor Sebastian Koch, the real life partner of Van Houten, whom she met on the set of Blackbook, also will join the cast.

The film, to be shot in the second half of 2008, deals with the life of South African poet Ingrid Jonker, who committed suicide near Capetown in 1965. Jonker was a fierce critic of censorship during apartheid.

For Hauer, it will be his third recent acting job in the Netherlands. He recently finished shooting a cameo role for Bride Flight by Ben Sombogaart (Twin Sisters), and will lend his voice to the experimental feature Oogverblindend by Cyrus Frisch.
