According to the opening credits, the film is an official Hindi remake of the Marathi-language film Mala Aai Vhaaychay! (2011) written and directed by Samruoddhi Porey, which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Marathi. The same original story was filmed in Telugu as Welcome Obama (2013).
Kriti Sanon gained 15 kg (33 lbs) for the role.
Five-year-old Jacob Smith, who plays Raj, is a Scottish child who had the learn the entire script in Hindi, a language he doesn't speak. He was cast after being spotted by casting agents for the film whilst holidaying in India with his family.
Sai Tamhankar, who plays the role of Shama, has played a role of surrogate mother in a Marathi TV serial called Anubandha which was aired in 2009.
Film did not have theatrical release and was streamed on Netflix and Jio Cinema due to COVID pandemic on 30th July 2021.On 26th July 2021 film was accidentally released by Jio Cinema prior to its released from where it went on to release on torrent platforms.
