It is fascinating the transgression of such a deprived and intense character in such a difficult time, La loca del frente is more than a political story, it is a platonic love story, shook and transgress the real life of minorities. Alfredo Castro and the cast achieved to travel us to that time and feel the how miserable was the life for them.
Amazing movie'. The places, the music the actors are great. Alfredo the best performance. Totally felt in love with this movie.
I wasn't sure I was going to like this. Not so much in to trans movies and the prior reviews were mixed. I thought I would give it a chance and I ended up really liking it.
I think one reason I enjoyed it more than some reviewers was because I had not read the book and I really did not know what to expect.
The story unfolded so genuinely. Everything felt very real. And Carlitos was beautiful and sweet. He was an honorable person too which made him even more attractive.
So, I'd recommend everyone watch this, particularly if you have not read the book because it looks like reading the book spoils the movie for the viewer,

Tengo Miedo Torero -or My Tender Matador-, based on the only novel by Chilean writer and activist Pedro Lemebel, explores in an acute and moving way without falling into caricature, the life of a poor and marginalized transvestite -La Loca del Frente- and his relationship with a young Mexican guerrilla combatant exiled in Cuba -Carlos-, in the middle of a tumultuous city of Santiago besieged by protests against the Pinochet dictatorship and the repression of the military forces. The director Rodrigo Sepúlveda puts together a perfect puzzle in which converge characters of extreme crudeness, police events of violent drama, childhood anecdotes, songs and sayings of popular culture, landscapes of rural Chile and the fight for sexual and political freedom, between clandestine encounters and bullets. Tengo Miedo Torero is a masterpiece that has become an essential part of the new era of Latin American cinema.
I want to say first the best of the movie: photography, direction of art and color, beautiful portrait of the sad poor Chile of the 80s.
The worst i would say is that they won't even try. They should have given an opportunity to trans people to act in this movie, Gnecco was more to the role of a military than a trans, horrific performance. The book it's so much more entertaining, deep and exciting, keeps you all the time at the edge but the movie becomes long and tedious. I really wish that the performance of La loca del frente would have been more realistic and more feminine.
