Alain Guiraudie’s “Misericordia,” Carlos Marqués-Marcet “They Will be Dust” and Yeo Siew Hua’s “Stranger Eyes” all won big at Spain’s auteurist haven Valladolid Film Festival on Saturday, in a second edition under José Luis Cienfuegos whose prizes served as a vindication of the changes he has wrought at the festival as well as an indication of some ways European arthouse is going.
All three directors’ awards build on prior upbeat reception. Playing Cannes Premiere, “Misericordia,” which scooped Valladolid’s best picture Golden Spike and its screenplay trophy, was hailed by Variety as a “darkly comic backwoods fable of pansexual desire and small-town sociopathy” which marks a “welcome re-embrace of the streamlined murdery perversities of his terrific ‘Stranger by the Lake.'”

A great opening can set the tone of an entire movie. For horror and adventure genres, a glimpse of the main monster sets viewers on edge and teases the terrors that are to come. This is especially true for animated features, as there are endless possibilities for hair-raising antics with their unique character and world designs.
Adventure epics, such as Kubo and the Two Strings, use jilted movements and handmade shadows to weave an introduction that is deeply foreboding. Likewise, horror films such as Monster House tease the supernatural nightmares that will be explored to their fullest potential. While most of these movies may be targeted toward younger audiences, that doesn't mean they hold back with their mature themes and imagery.

Sophie Turner's small but memorable role in "Do Revenge" features a standout scene where she hilariously delivers the line "I don't do cocaine" with exaggerated perfection. Turner's acting in "Do Revenge" is arguably her best work since her role in "Game of Thrones." Apart from "Do Revenge," Turner has been actively involved in other projects, including movies like "X-Men: Dark Phoenix" and TV shows like "Survive" and "The Staircase."
Sophie Turner had a small part in Do Revenge, but she made the most of it, and as a result, one of her scenes is arguably the most memorable moment in the Netflix film. Turner is most known for her role as Sansa Stark in the immensely popular HBO series Game of Thrones. The actress was a series regular in all eight seasons of the epic fantasy television show, and her work even garnered her a Primetime Emmy Award...

Gaumont, the powerhouse behind “Narcos,” “Lupin” and “Barbarians,” has boarded “Le Prince,” a period mystery thriller series written by Charles den Tex and Paul de Vrijer (“Hunter Street”).
Currently in development, “Le Prince” will be produced by Gaumont, as well as Stories By, a label launched by France TV Distribution, and Dutch producers Paradise Media.
The six-part series will be driven by a strong female character and will be inspired by the true story of the disappearance of Louis le Prince, the inventor of the first ever motion picture camera.
“Le Prince” unfolds in France, in the late 19th century, a few years before the invention of cinema. Le Prince was a French artist who is believed to have been the first person to shoot a moving picture sequence, years before the Lumière brothers and Thomas Edison. Le Prince mysteriously vanished in 1890 shortly before a planned public demonstration of his camera in the U.

Does life, once you’ve lived it for a little while, always have to get in the way of love? The simple question posed by German director Lisa Bierwith’s sedate but absorbing class- and culture-clash mid-life romance “Le Prince,” is one that can’t be answered simply, in grand declaratives or sweeping generalizations. So it feels right that this sensitively put-together relationship drama, produced by Maren Ade’s Komplizen Films, deals in neither. Between a white woman who moves in the upper echelons of Germany’s artworld and a Black Congolese businessman and diamond dealer, there springs up a love story that’s told in details, in the fleeting expressions and bitten-back words of two people warily working out if this thing they have is a precious stone or just so much cut glass.

Netflix is hoping for a slam dunk with “Hoops,” the streaming service’s upcoming animated basketball comedy. Netflix has unveiled a teaser trailer for the show, which will premiere its first season August 21.
Per Netflix, “Hoops” is an animated comedy sitcom that centers on a hot-headed, foul-mouthed high school basketball coach (Jake Johnson) who thinks turning around his god-awful team will take him to the “big leagues” and turn his miserable life around.
Speaking of having a foul-mouth, Netflix’s teaser trailer for the series indicates that “Hoops” is clearly part of the entertainment industry’s newfound fondness for adult animated comedies — “fuck” is the trailer’s most-used word by a considerable margin. And if the one-minute teaser is any indication, “Hoops” is shaping up to be a legitimately funny affair; the video consists entirely of Johnson’s hapless character attempting to land a shot while his incredulous team wordlessly watches from nearby.

HBO Max has ordered a new adult animated series titled “10-Year-Old-Tom.”
The series hails from writer and executive producer Steve Dildarian, with Nick Weidenfeld also attached as an executive producer.
“Not only is Steve insanely funny, he is one of the rare talents that can write, draw and do voices. He’s the triple threat that is the foundation of all great animated shows,” said Weidenfeld
In the series, Tom grapples with being corrupted by the grownups around him each day just by leaving his house. Bad influences seem to lurk around every corner — litigious parents, drug dealing bus drivers, and band teachers who want to sleep with his mom. If he sets up a lemonade stand, he gets sued for gross negligence. If he plays baseball, he is encouraged to “dabble with roids.” And if he visits the school nurse, he is introduced to the world of insurance fraud.

You don't have to wait until 2021 to meet Gary Janetti's Prince George parody. The veteran Will & Grace and Family Guy writer took to Instagram to share a message from "Prince George," the character he'll be playing on the upcoming HBO Max animated series The Prince. "Hey guys, it's me, Prince George. Thought I'd show you all I'm doing Ok, sing 'Imagine.' Just kidding, just kidding. So out of touch. Cringe! Am I right? Anyway, I know self-isolating is difficult and we're all sick of being stuck in the same 775 rooms, or, you know, studio apartment, it's different for everyone," Janetti's Prince George says in the Instagram message below. Leaders of the Writers Guild of America West have urged their members to seek guild coverage on animated projects, an area which is seeing continued production amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The WGA West board of directors issued a message Tuesday to the 10,000 WGA West members. The guild shares jurisdiction on animation writing with the Intl. Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, which covers feature animated work at terms that aren’t as sweet as the WGA’s. Disney animated titles are produced without any union writing contract

Pamplona, Spain — Few events were more anticipated at Conecta Fiction than the joint keynote delivered by HBO Latin America’s Roberto Ríos and HBO España’s Miguel Salvat. The room was packed, some attendees caught it from a screen outside.
That’s a sign of the draw of HBO’s brand in Spanish-language programming and of Ríos and Salvat. When it comes to Spanish-language premium TV series both executives are pioneers and now institutions. Ríos’ credits at HBO date back at least to the 2008-released “Alice” and Season 2 of “Epitafios,” produced with Pol-ka, the first ever premium limited TV series in Spanish bowing way back in 2003.
Salvat was the driving force behind two of Spain’s very first scripted premium series: “Whatever Happened to Jorge Sanz?” and “Crematorium,” released at Canal Plus España over 2010-11.

Mipdrama Buyers’ Summit: Scale, Comedy, Noir
European drama serie production continues to scale up, is driving ever more into comedy, while Nordic Noir’s is still going international, if the selection of 10 productions at this year’s MipDrama Buyers’ Summit is anything to go by. Meanwhile, established players are driving ever more into drama series production.
Produced by Mammoth Screen, BBC One’s “World on Fire,” an epic drama about ordinary people in early WWII starring Sean Bean and Helen Hunt, weighs in as the Summit’s biggest series.
Also to be pitched via 15 minutes of extracts, however, is Norwegian broadcaster Nrk’s “Atlantic Crossing,” charting the relationship between Norway’s Crown Princess Märtha and Franklin D. Roosevelt (Kyle Maclachan).
Nordic Noir continues its global roll-out with Kiwi Noir – crime thriller “The Gulf,” chronicling a woman cop’s moral disintegration, another MipDrama entry – and Ukrainian Noir: Missing child crime drama-thriller “Hide and Seek.

Chile’s Nicolas Guzman is having his feature debut “Potential Victim” world premiere at the 22nd Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia.
Known for his documentary about the student activist movement in Chile, “If You Listen Carefully” (“Si Escuchas Atentamente),” Guzman’s first foray into fiction filmmaking stars multifaceted pop singer-actress-model Sofía Oportot in an experimental film that combines vampires, pop music and ghosts in a hyper-digitalized world. Variety has been given exclusive access to its international trailer.
To bow Nov. 29 in the festival’s Rebels with a Cause sidebar, “Potential Victim” follows a vampire, played by Oportot, who lures her disenchanted teen victims through their obsession with the internet and social media.
On the Alma digital platform, Sofía unleashes her musical charm like the proverbial Pied Piper of Hamelin, and her followers fight to be her next victim and find release from the material world.
