Keanu Reeves Might Not Be Done After John Wick 5 as Ana de Armas’ Ballerina Deals Major Blow
Image
Ana de Armas’s box office stumble with Ballerina could mean that the studio might not be ready to part ways with Keanu Reeves after John Wick 5. Ballerina‘s $132.4 million collection [Box Office Mojo] against a reported $90 million budget is hardly good enough to call the movie profitable, and it went on to cost the studio some serious grievance in terms of net quarterly earnings.

In the recently released revenue estimates, Lionsgate revealed a net quarterly loss of $94 million. Meanwhile, CEO Jon Feltheimer revealed in a statement that [via Variety]

“We are taking a number of important steps toward returning to solid growth in fiscal 2027.”

This could very well mean that the studio might call on the services of Wick in the future to make up for those losses.

John Wick 5: Keanu Reeves Can Make Up for Constantine 2 With Franchise’s Underused Villain
Image
The villainous role that iconic actor Peter Stormare couldn’t flesh out in John Wick 2 now has a shot at redemption as Keanu Reeves gears up for John Wick 5. As Abram Tarasov, Stormare’s Russian don lived on the sidelines of the story, coming out of the shadows only once in the initial scene to wax poetics about our titular assassin’s brutality with a pencil, and was never seen again.

However, this is not the only time the actor was underused in his potential as a villain. In Constantine, he had hardly 10 minutes of screentime playing Satan against Reeves’s titular exorcist/demon hunter. Although Stormare continues to be undermined, underused, and underrepresented in these films, it is finally time to pay up on that front by bringing Abram Tarasov back in John Wick 5.

Fortunately for Reeves, Stormare’s return can also smooth over the fandom’s open wound about the long-delayed sequel,...

Constantine 2: Game of Thrones’ Most Exciting Spinoff Writer Wants Keanu Reeves’ Sequel
Image
Mattson Tomlin, popularly known for his work on The Batman Part II, and the Game of Thrones spinoff series Aegon’s Conquest, is currently eyeing the dark, moody character of John Constantine. Yep, with an unflinching love for comic book adaptations and bold storytelling, Tomlin is hoping to work on Constantine 2.

The DC character was previously played by Keanu Reeves in the 2005 action flick Constantine. Since then, the character has become a cult classic over the years. After all, who can get over Reeves’ chain-smoking, trenchcoat-wearing exorcist, who’s winning hearts for his cynical charm and apocalyptic adventures?

Therefore, after director Francis Lawrence blended biblical horror with noir vibes, and delivered a film that managed to earn a loyal fanbase—people have been begging for a sequel to this 2005 movie. So far, even Mattson Tomlin has expressed interest in the character. Now, let’s see if there’s any update waiting for us on this matter.

The Real Reason Michelle Monaghan Was Cut From Keanu Reeves' Constantine
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Despite not being a big hit in its day, 2005's "Constantine" has found a great deal of love in the 20 years since its original release. Starring Keanu Reeves as DC's John Constantine, the movie was directed by Francis Lawrence, of "The Hunger Games" fame, doing the R-rated comic book movie thing on a large scale years before "Deadpool" proved that sort of thing could be commercially viable on a blockbuster level. It featured an impressive cast including Rachel Weisz, Shia Labeouf, and Tilda Swinton. Another big star, Michelle Monaghan, was technically in the film but unfortunately saw her scenes wind up on the cutting room floor.

Monaghan, who viewers will know from her work in the "Mission: Impossible" franchise and "The White Lotus," among other things, played Ellie, a half-demon love interest for Reeves' titular anti-hero, who had several scenes in the film.

The series is a John Wick-esque action thriller, which sees Ji-sub play an ex-criminal who gets back into the underworld after a tragedy.

Early reviews have praised the show for building on the style that was first originated by Keanu Reeves’ John Wick and standing out amidst the countless copycats of the action franchise. So Ji-sub’s performance and the action choreography have been termed as the highlight, with some even comparing it to Oldboy and Halloween.

The Real Reason Keanu Reeves' Constantine 2 Is Taking So Long
Image
Francis Lawrence's 2005 demonic thriller "Constantine" wasn't terribly well-reviewed when it first came out. Some critics liked the film's visuals, and many praised Peter Stormare's performance as Satan, but just as many critics (including Jack Matthews in the New York Daily News) lambasted the film for being a painfully traditional action/murder fantasy hooey. "Constantine" was also unremarkable at the box office, netting $200 million worldwide on a $100 million budget.

The film was based on the "Hellblazer" comics, published by DC's adult-oriented imprint Vertigo, and the comics' many fans eventually came to admire Lawrence's film adaptation. A cult grew. Back in 2022, Warner Bros. found that the original film's clout had grown to the point where a sequel could be officially announced.

"Constantine 2" has now been in pre-production for three years. /Film offered an update in September of 2023, and the film had been put on hold because of the writers' strike.

“I’ve done John Wick”: Real Reason Why Keanu Reeves Is Unhappy With ‘Constantine 2’ Script After His Biggest Franchise
Image
Keanu Reeves’ Constantine in 2005 received mixed to negative reviews at the time of release, but gained a significant cult following over the years. Director Francis Lawrence and Reeves announced plans for a sequel in 2011, with the official confirmation coming only in September 2022. One of the stars of the film has come out with a revelation that Reeves is not happy with the film.

It appears that DC Studios wants to make the film into a spectacle, but Reeves wants to keep it spiritual and grounded like in his previous film. Reeves already has a major franchise film to his name, John Wick, where he does all the big stunts. Earlier, Lawrence had revealed that it was challenging to gain control over the character owned by DC.

Keanu Reeves Reportedly Not Happy With Action-Heavy Constantine 2 Scripts
Image
News of a Constantine sequel began long before the birth of the Dcu, but with the rise of a new cinematic universe, many fans assumed the project would be put out to pasture.

However, it was confirmed in February 2023 that the project was still moving forward. More recently, a script for the sequel was turned in back in September 2024, reportedly developed by Keanu Reeves and director Francis Lawrence. According to the most recent reports, Akiva Goldsman was the last writer to revise the script.

Since that update, the project has gone dark, but we now have fresh info from Peter Stromare, who played Lucifer in the original film. Based on what he had to share, it doesn't sound like Constantine 2 is moving forward in a promising direction.

Stromare stated, "It's a lot of back and forth, because... I think Keanu [Reeves], which I know pretty good, is not so happy...

Peter Stormare: Keanu Reeves is ‘not happy’ with Constantine 2 scripts
Keanu Reeves is "not happy with the scripts" for ‘Constantine 2’, Peter Stormare has said. The 60-year-old actor’s titular demonologist is set to return in a follow-up to the 2005 horror flick, and Stormare - who played Lucifer in the movie - has revealed Reeves has been disappointed with Warner Bros.’ ideas for a more action-packed ‘Constantine 2’.Speaking with The Direct, Stormare, 71, said: "It's a lot of back and forth, because ... I think Keanu, which I know pretty good, is not so happy with the scripts and usually what comes out of the studios."Because the first one wasn't that successful in the beginning, it became a sleeper and became a cult movie, and now it is one of the biggest cult movies ever. But to do a sequel, the studios want to have, you know, cars flying in the air. They want to have people doing flip-flops and fighting action scenes.

Constantine 2 script may have hit a stumbling block
Image
Constantine 2 seems no closer to shooting, and that might be due to Keanu Reeves being unhappy with the script.

Constantine 2 is a project that has been talked about for years and years, with occasional updates from director Francis Lawrence or the project’s star Keanu Reeves suggesting that the project is always just around the corner.

However, despite the script reportedly being completed last September, not to mention Lawrence adding earlier this year that “I will say we are closer than ever to being able to do a sequel,” it seems like a green light for the project is still some way away.

The latest update comes courtesy of Peter Stormare, who plays Satan in the 2005 film. While speaking to The Direct, Stormare revealed that backing for the latest iteration of the script isn’t universal, and that Reeves especially doesn’t seem to be fully happy with it.

Constantine 2: Peter Stormare says Keanu Reeves isn’t happy with the script
Keanu Reeves in Constantine (2005)
Twenty years after the release of the DC Comics adaptation Constantine (watch it Here), a sequel is finally moving ahead with director Francis Lawrence back at the helm and star Keanu Reeves reprising the role of occult expert John Constantine… but it’s moving ahead slowly, because it has already been a few years since this project was first announced. We heard that a script for Constantine 2 had been delivered to executive producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura around eight months ago, but now Constantine co-star Peter Stormare (who played Lucifer in the first film) has revealed that Reeves isn’t happy with the script.

Written by Kevin Brodbin and Frank Cappello, the first Constantine had the following synopsis: As a suicide survivor, demon hunter John Constantine has literally been to hell and back — and he knows that when he dies, he’s got a one-way ticket to Satan’s realm...

“Don’t Turn It Into Marvel”: ‘Constantine 2’ Star Reveals Why Keanu Reeves Isn’t Happy With Script
Image
Even in spite of a fan-favorite TV show, John Constantine is a character synonymous with Keanu Reeves. Ever since he portrayed the character as a grounded man of few words who hunts mighty demons and has a direct connection to both God and the Devil in Constantine, his portrayal continued to influence the other live-action versions. So, when Constantine 2 was announced, fans were ecstatic, but the updates on the movie that is currently in development have been far and few. In a new interview, Peter Stormare, who portrayed a white-suit-clad devil in the original film, disclosed that Reeves isn’t happy with the sequel’s scripts.

"It's a lot of back and forth, because... I think Keanu [Reeves], which I know pretty good, is not so happy with the scripts and usually what comes out of the studios...” Stormare revealed. Given that the original movie was a sleeper hit and,...

Peter Stormare Gives Update on ‘Constantine 2’; Keanu Reeves Reportedly Unhappy with Script

It’s been over two years since the official announcement of Constantine 2, with Keanu Reeves coming back to play DC’s John Constantine. Constantine co-star Peter Stormare recently gave a new update on the script’s status.

Keanu Reeves "Is Not So Happy" With Constantine 2 Scripts According To Original Co-Star
Image
Constantine 2 may be facing some creative troubles, as one of the stars from the original DC film has stated that Keanu Reeves is "not so happy" with the script. DC Studios remains committed to telling Elseworlds stories at the same time as James Gunn's DC Universe, and Reeves' Constantine movie from 2005 is one of the standalone franchises that is potentially making a comeback. While Constantine 2 has been in development since September 2022, the DC sequel is seemingly dealing with some complications.

In a new interview with The Direct, Peter Stormare, who played Lucifer in the original Constantine movie, shared some new details about the upcoming Constantine 2 sequel regarding Reeves' feelings on the script development. According to the Swedish star, Reeves is not entirely happy with the screenplay, as Stormare shared the following:

Keanu Reeves Was Not Happy With 'Constantine 2' Action-Heavy Scripts
Image
Despite seeming to have a definite vision and a cohesive driving force for the first time in its long history, the future of DC movies is still in a bit of a mess. While James Gunn is almost ready to deliver his first live-action Dcu movie with Superman, many previously announced movies are not as certain as they once were, and the franchise’s “Elseworlds” side-projects are in a state of flux. Among those projects is the long-delayed sequel to Keanu Reeves’ 2005 movie, Constantine – and a new update from the original movie’s Peter Stormare has suggested there is still a hellish journey ahead of it.

It is now 20 years since Reeves first played the troubled demonologist, and while there have been several attempts to kick-start a sequel, those potential projects have all been dragged into development hell never to be seen again. The character of John Constantine, however, has appeared in several other ways,...

Keanu Reeves Is Not Happy With Constantine 2 Scripts, Says Co-Star (Exclusive)
Image
Constantine's Lucifer actor Peter Stormare disclosed some new information about why Constantine 2 is taking so long, positing that it is because franchise lead Keanu Reeves is unhappy with the script. A sequel to the 2005 DC Comics movie has been stuck in development hell for years. The last fans heard about the project, Reeves and director Francis Lawrence had pitched a story to DC Studios and were given the green light to pursue writing a script, but no further details have been made public.

In an exclusive interview with The Direct conducted while promoting his 2025 film Stand Your Ground (now available on PVOD), Constantine star Peter Stormare addressed what he has heard about the Keanu Reeves-led DC Comics sequel.

Stormare revealed that it has been "a lot of back and forth" so far and that Reeves "is not so happy with the scripts:"

'Good Fortune' Trailer: Keanu Reeves & Seth Rogen in Aziz Ansari Movie
Image
Keanu Reeves has mostly committed himself to voice acting work in recent years, with his last major onscreen role being in 2023's John Wick: Chapter 4. Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock to Have 'Speed' Reunion in Romance Thriller
Image
Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock are reuniting for a new feature film, nearly two decades after they last starred in a movie together. The duo will be back in action, but this time, they're mixing the thrill of Jan de Bont's 1994 pulse-pounding classic Speedwith a touch of romance, reigniting the chemistry they exuded on-screen throughout their (extremely) long-distance relationship in Alejandro Agresti's 2006 love story The Lake House, to star in an as-yet-untitled "propulsive" romantic thriller currently in development at Amazon MGM Studios.

The wheels are in motion on the romantic thriller, but plot details are still under wraps for now. However, the script is in safe hands with Noah Oppenheim, who wrote the 2016 historical drama Jackie and recently co-created Netflix's political thriller Zero Day, starring Robert De Niro as former U.S. president George Mullen. Oppenheim is also producing the next Reeves and Bullock team-up with Sarah Bremner via Prologue Entertainment,...

I Am Legend 2: Will Smith Has Revealed Who Black Panther Star Michael B. Jordan Won't Be Playing In The Sequel
Image
2007's I Am Legend, directed by Francis Lawrence and starring Will Smith, ended with Dr. Robert Neville using a grenade to sacrifice himself during a final confrontation with the movie's Darkseekers.

He did so to help a woman and her son reach safety, redeeming himself for the way he's hunted down and experimented on the Big Apple's infected. The DVD featured an alternate ending where Neville, realising he'd become a monster, handed over the women he'd captured before leaving the city behind.

Neville then travels to a human sanctuary while coming to terms with the fact that he was the "legend" haunting the infected beings and that they were not the mindless monsters he believed them to be. That's the ending which will be "canon" in the upcoming I Am Legend sequel.

Black Panther and Sinners star Michael B. Jordan has been attached to the movie for a while now,...

Constantine: Peter Stormare’s Disagreement With Director Over Devil’s Costume Made This Scene With Keanu Reeves So Much Better
Image
Directors know what’s best for their films and will do anything to have their vision perfectly translated onto the screen. However, sometimes, they might need a little nudge in the right direction. Take the gritty, supernatural rollercoaster of 2005, for example. Constantine will forever be remembered as that bold, mind-bending film that didn’t quite play by the rulebook. Keanu Reeves was, no doubt, brilliant in the film with his cigarette, trench coat, and devil-may-care attitude.

However, there is another actor who stole the spotlight when he came on screen – Peter Stormare. Playing the barefoot, slimy Satan who oozed tar from his feet, the actor played the role of the devil to perfection, and the costume choice really elevated the scene, if you ask us, and we only have the Peter Stormane to thank for that.

'Constantine 2': Plot, Cast, Release Date, and Everything Else We Know
Image
Constantine 2 is finally a reality as Warner Bros. announces a sequel for the DC demonologist. In September 2022, Deadline first reported that Constantine would return with Keanu Reeves reprising his role from the 2005 cult classic. The article also said that Frances Lawrence, who directed the original film, would be back to direct the sequel. Though the Dceu has seen several versions of the character over these past 20 years, none has hit the same spark that Reeves had in that first movie. Now, it seems DC wants to resurrect its universe’s most dangerous demon hunter with the same people that brought him into this world.

Constantine has been a fan favorite of the Dceu since the last time he saved us from the antichrist. The movie created a new kind of world in which angels and demons were living right beside us and going to some crazy clubs. It took...

Keanu Reeves' Constantine sequel moves forward, and it’s about time
Image
Few films have undergone a reputational resurrection quite like Constantine. When it hit theaters in 2005, critics were unimpressed, and die-hard fans of the comic book version of John Constantine were outright hostile. The A.V. Club famously wrote that "virtually anyone but Reeves would have made a better John Constantine." The film performed modestly at the box office, pulling in decent numbers overseas but not enough to justify a sequel. And yet, nearly 20 years later, here we are — Constantine 2 is officially in the works.

Keanu Reeves has been championing a return to the role for years, and now, thanks to a combination of nostalgia, cable reruns, and the ever-expanding appetite for legacy sequels, Warner Bros. has given the green light to at least a script. Reeves recently confirmed to Inverse that DC Studios has given him and director Francis Lawrence the go-ahead to "try and write a script," marking real progress after years of speculation.

Interview: Keanu Reeves Talks to JoBlo about his new show Visionaries

Keanu Reeves may be known as one of the nicest guys in Hollywood, he also has plenty of interests away from cinema. Founding a motorcycle company, funding a cancer research charity, touring with his band, Dogstar; there are plenty of places you can find Keanu that aren’t a film set. I was fortunate enough to talk with both Keanu and his business partner Gard Hollinger about their newest venture: Visionaries, a Roku show about interesting people making innovative art, technology, and advancements for the human race. It’s truly a fascinating look at the good that people can accomplish, with Keanu and Gard’s curiosity really shining through.

We were specifically told to not ask Any questions about anything non-Visionaries-related, so we weren’t able to get any info about Constantine 2 or a potential return to the John Wick franchise. However, Keanu did say recently that, “We’ve...

Oscar Winning Writer Akiva Goldsman Tapped to Helm Famous Irwin Allen Sci-Fi Series

When Academy Award winner Akiva Goldsman isn't thinking about the ongoing battle of the making of Constantine 2 or the epic follow-up to I Am Legend's alternate ending, the acclaimed writer and director has had his mind on the world of legendary '60s sci-fi. Irwin Allen was behind the eclectic retro-futuristic shows like Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Land of Giants, and The Time Tunnel, which happen to be the three shows that Legendary Television has hired Goldsman to recreate for a modern audience.

While it may sound odd that the same visionary writer that brought fans both the moving drama Cinderella Man and the goofy comic book film Batman Forever is now working on a re-imagined retro sci-fi TV universe, Goldsman has always had a diverse portfolio. He has worked on a variety of projects, like the Best Picture winner A Beautiful Mindand the hit...

It’s been twenty years since the release of Constantine, but the chances of a sequel have never looked more promising. While speaking with Inverse, Keanu Reeves said they recently pitched Constantine 2 to DC Studios, and now they’re moving ahead on the script.

Image
Keanu Reeves is all in when it comes toConstantine 2, and he's gotten a green light to start writing the script. Constantine was released 20 years ago, in 2005, and though it wasn't a massive hit, it remains a cult favorite and fans have been asking for a sequel for years. Luckily, it seems that the Constantine sequel is finally on its way and, best of all, Reeves is on board.

Though he's better known these days as John Wick, Reeves seems excited about reprising one of his most underrated characters. Among the actor's future projects, Constantine 2 is one that has spent a lot of time in development hell. Nevertheless, Reeves told Inverse that the project is going forward with the approval of DC:

"We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said,...

Keanu Reeves ‘Recently’ Pitched ‘Constantine 2’ to DC After Trying to Make the Sequel for ‘Over a Decade’: ‘We’re Going to Try and Write a Script’

Keanu Reeves is eager to once again suit up in John Constantine’s signature trench coat and tie. Nearly twenty years after he first brought the DC Comics/Vertigo character to life in Francis Lawrence’s 2005 film “Constantine,” Reeves says there may finally be movement on a potential “Constantine 2.”

Though he’s been vocal about wanting a “Constantine” sequel since 2019, Reeves recently revealed he thinks “Constantine 2” is ready for a script: “We’ve been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘Okay,’” Reeves told Inverse. “So, we’re going to try and write a script.”

Keanu Reeves’ Best Sequel is Now Streaming for Free — No, It's Not the One You're Thinking of
Image
Keanu Reeveswasn't kidding when he said he's thinking he's back, because he sure loves to do sequels. He's consistently shown up for each entry of the two mega-franchises to which his career owes a huge debt, The Matrixand John Wick. He added his cultural currency to previously established franchises like Toy Storyand Sonic the Hedgehog, providing forceful new characters that added to the emotional complexity of the narrative. He's even set on making a sequel to one of his cult classics if the progress of Constantine 2 is to be believed. Of the various choices he's given us, I'd argue that the best sequel is actually Bill & Ted Face the Music, the capstone to the Bill & Ted trilogy that just dropped on Tubi.

Keanu Reeves in Constantine (2005)
Constantine 2: Keanu Reeves is aching to make the sequel
Keanu Reeves in Constantine (2005)
Twenty years after the release of the DC Comics adaptation Constantine (watch it Here), a sequel is finally moving ahead with director Francis Lawrence back at the helm and star Keanu Reeves reprising the role of occult expert John Constantine… but it’s moving ahead slowly, because it has already been a few years since this project was first announced. There’s hope that it might go into production soon, though. We heard that a script for Constantine 2 had been delivered to executive producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura about five months ago, and now Reeves has said that he’s “aching” to play Constantine again.

Scripted by Kevin Brodbin and Frank Cappello, the first Constantine had the following synopsis: As a suicide survivor, demon hunter John Constantine has literally been to hell and back — and he knows that when he dies, he’s got a one-way ticket to Satan’s...

Keanu Reeves Says He's "Aching" To Play John Constantine Again in Long-Awaited DC Sequel
Image
Keanu Reeves is now best-known for his role as the action icon John Wick but, with the actor having wrapped up that particular saga with 2023’s John Wick: Chapter 4, he is now “aching” to return as another fan-favorite character. The character in question happens to also be called John, DC’s paranormal investigator John Constantine, with Reeves commenting on the long-awaited sequel to his 2005 comic book movie on this, it’s 20th anniversary.

Updates on the development of Constantine 2 have been dripping through over the last few years and, during a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Reeves revealed that conversations are happening. And he cannot wait to (hopefully) finally give Constantine his highly anticipated comeback in what he calls “definitely in the realm of feeling worthy of being the next chapter.”

“It’s just fun to be in the same room and talk Constantine. Just everyone riffing and just,...

'It's a Scarier Version': Constantine Director Teases a Very R-Rated Sequel
Image
Constantine was dark enough to please the fan base but director Francis Lawrence said they could have done better. He's going all out with the sequel knowing it would definitely get an R-rating.

Director Francis Lawrence stoked fan anticipation, saying they're "closer than ever to a Constantine sequel". That can't come soon enough because Keanu Reeves said that's a follow-up he's eager to film. Lawrence said a stroke of luck gave them headway. "The big hurdle over these last 20 years has been who has the rights to these Vertigo characters or DC Dark," he told Entertainment Weekly. "NBC did make a series. We've always gotten held up because they go, 'No, we have Constantine. We want to do something with Constantine. You guys can't do your Constantine.' Finally, I think this is right before the strikes, we got everybody to say, 'Okay, you can go.'"

Keanu Reeves in Constantine (2005)
Constantine 2 just got the update we've all been waiting for
Keanu Reeves in Constantine (2005)
It's really great to see how Constantine has become a cult classic over the years. Released in 2005 at a time when supernatural dramas were all the rage, the horror thriller barely acknowledged the fact that it was based on a DC / Vertigo comic book character. Instead of a blonde, foul-mouthed British man in a brown trenchcoat, John Constantine was a suit-wearing American with dark hair played by everyone's favorite actor Keanu Reeves.

Two decades later and a sequel is in development at Warner Bros., with Reeves set to return. The film was announced in 2022 and it was music to fans' ears. Reeves has experienced a career resurgence over the past decade due to the John Wick franchise, so Constantine 2 felt inevitable - especially when you consider its passionate fanbase. And yet, it always felt so far away, too.

It's been nearly three years since the sequel was announced and...

Keanu Reeves' 'Constantine 2' Gets Huge Update From Director
Image
For years, fans of the DC universe have eagerly anticipated the return of one of its most enigmatic characters on the big screen: Keanu Reeves’ John Constantine. After decades of false-starts, complete abandonment, and more recent rumors, a new update has suggested that the long-delayed follow-up to 1997’s Constantine is still very much alive and could still become a reality for those who have been patiently waiting for it to happen.

Director Francis Lawrence recently answered the question of what is happening with Constantine 2 during an interview with Collider, and his comments may not be categorically conclusive, but they certainly spark up debates about the possibility of this fan pipe-dream actually becoming reality. Lawrence said tantalizingly of the sequel:

"I will say we are closer than ever to being able to do a sequel, which is a great thing. And Akiva, Keanu and I are super, super excited about it.

Francis Lawrence says Constantine 2 is “closer than ever”
Image
It’s been nearly three years since we first learned that Warner Bros. was developing a long-belated sequel to Constantine. A lot has changed in that time, such as James Gunn and Peter Safran taking over DC Studios, but the project is still kicking. In fact, director Francis Lawrence told Collider that Constantine 2 is “closer than ever” to actually happening.

“I will say we are closer than ever to being able to do a sequel, which is a great thing,” Lawrence said. “And Akiva, Keanu and I are super, super excited about it.” Lawrence will direct the sequel from a script by Akiva Goldsman, and, of course, Keanu Reeves returns as the cynical exorcist and demonologist.

The original Constantine movie was released in 2005 and grossed a respectable $230.9 million on a $70-100 million budget. The movie found Constantine helping an LAPD detective (Rachel Weisz) prove that her sister’s death...
