I was excited for this series. The cast is great. The writing is HORRIBLE!!!
As a black American, the amount of forced "black" dialogue in the first scene along was absolutely cringe. When black people get the chance to tell stories, we don't have to ghetto it up for a larger audience. Black people are not a monolith but this show would have you believe that we all say words like lit and catch a case or say Miss Thang Thang...Modern shows like Power and Empire and Bel-Air and Atlanta, The Chi and even Grown-Ish allow for black folk to be all types of black in natural ways. This is high-end coonery. I mean, rose water? Coconut oil? Stop.
I understand wanting to make a show that showcases black excellence but this is an unnatural attempt at pandering and pushing a weird narrative to white audiences. We don't need to prove things to people. Let's make realistic shows unapologetically...

It's a decent show so far but the plot is going at lightening speed. It's almost like a soap-opera in the way the story jumps around but if you're in-between shows it's ok to watch.
I think the reviewers that are giving 7-10 stars are relatives of some of the actors. How did Morris and Joe sign on to this!?They have a good plot but the execution is horrible. The lead actress is lacking and over sells her role. Get new writers and new acting coaches! This shouldn't even make it past Season 1 at this rate!!
The story line is clear , there is depth in the personalities and mixture of characters , the clash between the rich and the poor , can't wait to see the next episode .
So much is left to be desired with this show. The storyline is okay. Everything escalates so fast, there is absolutely no build up or working out the characters or the plot. The acting is subpar. The potential is there. Maybe the next season will have better writers and polishing.
