For better or worse, Nick Cassavetes' 2004 film "The Notebook" still resonates with audiences. It's been more than 20 years since this Nicholas Sparks adaptation first hit theaters, and many people have since come to regard it as one of the all-time great romance movies. It's a tad surprising, too; the film earned lukewarm reviews and was a respectable-if-modest box office success upon its initial release, receiving much in the way of criticism for its melodramatic extremes and tendency to stew in genre clichés.
20 years later, these criticisms still hold water, as "The Notebook" feels like a clumsy foray into saccharine sentimentality and lacks the innate sincerity that more compelling love stories embrace. Before you ready your pitchforks, however, I must admit that Cassavetes' film knows how to win you over even when you're aware of its flaws, thanks to the spectacular lead performances that make it worthwhile. Both Rachel McAdams and...

Digimon Adventure revolutionized anime. Casuals may write off the franchise as a faux-Pokémon, but the differences are clear for any fans who watched. Digimon boasts isekai anime flair, and its titular creatures come with unprecedented power scaling that Pokémon lacks. While other monster-taming anime focus on tournaments, the original anime Digimon Adventure features apocalyptic stakes, Ultimate-level showdowns and dimension-shattering Mega forms that elevate it to a different epic experience.
The results? A standard-setting show that franchises—including Digimon itself—struggle to match to this day, with similarly standard-setting digital monsters. Not all Digmon in the original anime possess an equal potential for destruction, though. The cream of the Digimon Adventure crop showcases the incredible range of power possible through digital evolution, not to mention the lengths Digimon lore can go, with some of the strongest Digimon being borderline eldritch entities.

Cameron Diaz's long-awaited comeback to Hollywood with her new Netflix movie Back in Action has received a solid audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Helmed by Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon, Diaz stars in the action-comedy alongside Jamie Foxx as Emily and Matt, former undercover CIA agents who go on the run with their children after their identities are discovered by a mysterious enemy. Marking the first pairing between Diaz and Foxx since 2014's Annie, critics have not been kind to Back in Action, netting it a 24% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Now, with the movie in its debut weekend on Netflix, Rotten Tomatoes has calculated Back in Action's Audience score. With over 250 reviews calculated on the review aggregate, the action-comedy currently sits at a 64% approval rating from viewers. After the release of 2014’s Annie, in which Cameron Diaz played Miss Hannigan, Diaz took a break from acting. By 2018, when she reunited with her co-stars from The Sweetest Thing for an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she described herself as “retired,” and stayed that way for the next several years — until now. Today sees the release of Back in Action, a straight-to-Netflix feature film that lured Diaz back onto a film set. At an event in October, Diaz explained that she had stepped away from her professional career because she had to “reclaim” her life and that what she was “passionate” about at the time was building her family, but that she agreed to Back in Action to re-team with her Annie co-star: “I couldn’t say no to Jamie.”

Cameron Diaz is one of the most popular comedy and drama actors, and her films grossed billions at the box office. However, the actress stepped out of the spotlight to focus on her family for a decade and her comeback movie is not the success she'd hoped.
Netflix's Back in Action, where she stars with Jamie Foxx, is Diaz's first film in 10 years. The movie premiered on the platform on Jan. 17, and its debut score has just been unveiled. Out of 23 reviews, Back in Action has an abysmal 26% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which might fluctuate as more reviews come in. The audience score is currently not available, as there are fewer than 50 ratings at the time of publishing.

The recent controversy in Tinseltown features Blake Lively and her It Ends with Us co-star Justin Baldoni. Many prominent names in the industry have spoken up about the ordeal, and now, actress Abigail Breslin has apparently given her two cents on the whole matter. Best known for films like Little Miss Sunshine (2006) and My Sister’s Keeper (2009), she faced something similar to what Blake Lively is going through at the moment.

Abigail Breslin penned an emotional letter on social media regarding the double standard and harassment faced by women who deign to speak up about experiences of sexism or injustice in Hollywood, recalling a lawsuit filed by her employer after she addressed a male co-star’s “unprofessional behavior” on set. The Little Miss Sunshine actress heavily implied she was spurred to put forth a statement following the fallout from Blake Lively’s legal complaint against Justin Baldoni, the multi-pronged scandal that also recently moved Kate Beckinsale to detail her own industry experiences of assault and misogyny.
In a sizable essay shared to her Instagram and Tumblr, Breslin detailed being dismissed as a “hysterical and wild” woman who “apparently just had it in for men” after she had “taken all of the recommended, reasonable and appropriate measures of reporting confidentially to my union” what she had experienced on set. In an interview with People magazine about her new book “By Any Other Name,” author Jodi Picoult revealed her inspiration for the novel came from the “terrible experience” she had with the 2009 film adaptation of “My Sister’s Keeper.”
“It kind of goes back to when I had a really terrible experience turning ‘My Sister’s Keeper’ into a film,” Picoult said. “It took me a long time to kind of wrap my head around the fact that they didn’t ruin my book. The thought of losing a sibling is unfathomable to those of us who are fortunate to have them. Perhaps it’s my closeness with my sister that lends to my appreciation of media that represent sibling bonds impeccably. They can be at each other’s throats all the time, or they can be as close as we are, or an awkward, long-lost bunch who have to find their way to loving each other again—it’s a bond that is somehow palpable through it all. The title A Part of You immediately piqued my interest as I learned that it was a story about sisters. I went into the film completely blind, and it definitely didn’t go as I expected. The film explores the life of 17-year-old Agnes after her sister unexpectedly dies, leaving her to navigate life after tragedy all by herself. Immediately, the idea of this film...

Exclusive: Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins (Freud’s Last Session) has signed on to star in Bruno Penguin and the Staten Island Princess, the latest film from director Nick Cassavetes. Billed as the first-ever major Hollywood production to shoot in Antarctica, the film also has Shia Labeouf (Padre Pio) in talks to star and will enter production in November.

He was obsessed by them – their kindness, the way they lived, their deep levels of affection for one another. Bruno spent his life trying to learn how to communicate with them and over time, the colonies grew to know him and return his fondness.

The A24 production company rarely shies away from taking on projects with deeply emotional (and sometimes bizarre) plots. Tuesday is no different, as it addresses the trauma of losing someone you love, with a fantastical twist. The bond between a parent and child is put to the test as the two of them brace themselves for the inevitable loss that looms over their heads like a shadow. Similar themes have been addressed in movies such as My Sister’s Keeper, with Abigail Breslin and Cameron Diaz, or Babyteeth, with Eliza Scanlen and Essie Davis. If you’re the kind of person who enjoys watching heart-wrenching, emotional movies that make you cry your eyes out, you’re in the right spot. After its successful worldwide premiere, Tuesday will be coming soon to theaters. This article will tell you everything we know so far about the latest film from A24.

Nancy Green-Keyes, a casting director who worked on the first two Rush Hour films and on six films directed by Nick Cassavetes, including John Q, The Notebook and My Sister’s Keeper, has died. She was 68.
Green-Keyes died Wednesday of respiratory failure at UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center, her brother Andrew told The Hollywood Reporter.
A former agent, Green-Keyes launched Barry/Green-Keyes Casting with a former client, actor Matthew Barry, and they got their start on Rush Hour (1998), directed by Brett Ratner. They would share Artois Awards from the Casting Society of America in 2002 for The Family Man and in 2005 for The Notebook.

In 2022, Netflix released a live-action series based on the "Resident Evil" video games, just a few months removed from the "Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness" anime series for the streamer. Not to mention, Johannes Roberts' cinematic reboot, "Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City." That film came just four years after the end of Paul W.S. Anderson's mega-blockbuster film series starring Milla Jovovich, which ran concurrently with a series of unrelated animated films and many installments of the video game. This is all to say that "Resident Evil," as a property, has grown beyond just the games, and that the fandom has splintered off into a variety of directions and mediums. Trying to appease the whole of the "Resident Evil" community with an adaptation is at this point, impossible. Too many people want too many different things, and those differences are often in direct opposition to one another.

Company chiefs Dan March and Klaus Zimmerman revealed the projects in an exclusive interview ahead of Dynamic’s tenth anniversary.
Dynamic, which began life as a distributor at Mipcom in 2013, has been pushing heavily into active development and production over recent years and is the lead production company behind Apple TV+ wine drama Drops of God. Its next set of scripted projects are at early development stage and don’t yet have networks attached.
The Drops of God maker has acquired rights to make a German version of Picoult’s novel Nineteen Minutes and Germany-based Giordano’s novel The Experiment, which was previously turned into a Hollywood film starring Adrien Brody and Forrest Whittaker. “These are big IP projects for the German market,” Zimmerman told Deadline.

The Vancouver-based producer is planning to turn Jodi Picoult and Jennifer Finney Boylan’s novel into a premium TV series.
The novel focuses on themes of young love, teen angst and parental grief, interwoven with murder and high-intensity courtroom drama. The story follows a mother, who relocates to her sleepy New Hampshire hometown to take over the family beekeeping business, whose son is suspected of killing his girlfriend.
“Jodi and Jennifer wrote such an incredibly moving story,” said Matthew Berkowitz, Thunderbird Entertainment President and Chief Creative Officer. “We believe that narratives on this level can truly make a significant impact on the empathy we have for others and how people view their own actions as we co-exist in the world.”

The filmography of Nick Cassavetes is an interesting subject to dissect. You have a crime thriller like “John Q” followed by the gold standard for modern romantic dramas, “The Notebook.” Then there’s “Alpha Dog” and “My Sister’s Keeper.” And his most recent film is 2014’s rom-com “The Other Woman.” All this to say, the writer-director is known for keeping film fans on their toes.
