‘Ku’damm 77’ Begins Filming: New Season Continues Family Saga With Zdf Studios Across Sales
Image
Filming is underway on Ku’damm 77, the fourth season of the popular German drama.

The series is produced by German banner UFA Fiction. The new show comes in the wake of earlier outings Ku’damm 56, Ku’damm 59 and Ku’damm 63. Cameras are rolling in and around the German capital, Berlin.

The saga about the Schöllack dance school follows a family history over several decades. As the name implies, Ku’damm 77 picks up the family story in 1977.

Annette Hess, recipient of Deadline’s German TV Disruptor Award last year, penned the scripts for the three-part series. Hess is one of Germany’s top creatives, counting the Ku’damm series among her credits as well as We Children From Bahnhoff Zoo and The Interpreter of Silence for Disney+.

Hess has helped set the structure of the team as filming commences. She is showrunner and has that wide oversight, with Maurice Hübner in the director’s chair.

The series adaptation of Ingmar Bergman’s Faithless from Swedish filmmaker Tomas Alfredson will debut in competition as part of the Primetime & Short Cuts line up at this year’s Toronto Film Festival. Scroll down for the full list.

The series will screen on Wednesday 11th September at TIFF before hitting Svt and Arte France in 2025. Fremantle is handling international sales on the series. We shared the first look at the project and interviewed Alfredson back in February. You can check that out here.

Billed as a “searing tale of love and betrayal,” the project is a six-part TV series based on the 2000 feature Faithless, which Ingmar Bergman penned for his former partner Liv Ullmann. The original film debuted at the Cannes Film Festival and starred Lena Endre and Erland Josephson. The entire series is directed by Alfredson from scripts adapted by Norwegian writer Sara Johnsen.

Spinning audiences back to the mid-1970s, UFA Fiction’s latest period series “Disko 76” is set in a pivotal time in the industrial heartland of West Germany as a new American pop music craze takes over the airwaves and dance floors.

UFA Fiction quickly won over Rtl+ with the idea from former UFA Fiction producer Benjamin Benedict of a family story set in the disco era, says fellow producer Sinah Swyter.

Boasting classic hits from the likes of Donna Summer, Abba, Kool and the Gang, Boney M. and many more, the series follows Doro (Luise Aschenbrenner), a rebellious young woman constricted by married life who finds freedom with the arrival of disco...
