When Motown Tried — and Failed — to Go Country
Image
T.G. Sheppard knows exactly how people at home may have felt when they were watching Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever, the landmark 1983 TV special honoring one of the most enduring record companies ever. The singer was feeling the same way backstage at the Pasadena Civic Center in California, marveling at moments like Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” moonwalk, Marvin Gaye’s otherworldly “What’s Going On,” and the reunions of the Jackson 5, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, and the Supremes.

He knows audiences were probably confused when comedian and host...

‘SNL’ Sees Dana Carvey Return as the Church Lady to Scold David Spade’s Hunter Biden
Image
Church Chats at Saturday Night Live are back in session.

Dana Carvey reprised his iconic character, the Church Lady, during the newest episode’s cold open, sitting down to scold Matt Gaetz, played by Sarah Sherman;, Hunter Biden, played by David Spade; and baseball player Juan Soto, played by Marcello Hernández.

“Welcome to Church Chat. I’m the Church Lady,” Carvey says. “You know, it’s great to be back to ring out the end of 2024, the most satanic year in history. Instead of Mother Mary, little girls are looking up to the Hawk Tuah girl. Well, you know what I say, instead of hawk tuah-y, you need to walk tuah-y to a church.”

Carvey continues, “Have you seen Wicked? It’s just like The Wizard of Oz, but instead of saying, ‘Lions, tigers and bears, oh my,’ they say, ‘Lions, tigers and sluts, oh yes.’ A little bit different.

Will Shaboozey’s record run on Billboard charts lead to Grammys like it did for ‘Old Town Road’?
Image
Country artist Shaboozey made history this week when his blockbuster crossover hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” spent a 19th week on top of the Billboard Hot 100. That tied the record for the most weeks at number-one in the history of the singles chart. His success helped fuel him to five Grammy nominations including Song of the Year and Best New Artist, but is he now too big to fail when it comes time to pick the winners?

SEEKendrick Lamar releases surprise new album ‘Gnx’ on the heels of his 7 Grammy noms

The only other song to spend 19 weeks atop the Hot 100 was “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus in 2019. Like “A Bar Song,” which interpolates rapper J-Kwon‘s 2004 song “Tipsy,” it was a genre-bending country crossover smash (though “Old Town Road” was controversially banished from Billboard’s country charts). It helped Nas break through at...

Shaboozey’s ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ Ties Record for Most Weeks at Number One
Image
Shaboozey made history on Monday as his smash hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” tied the record for most weeks atop Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart, with the song taking the Number One spot for 19 weeks this year.

Shaboozey now shares the record with Lil Nas X, whose country-rap hit “Old Town Road” was the Number One song in the country for 19 consecutive weeks back in 2019, bolstered in part by several remixes released near the end of that streak as Nas approached the record.

“A Bar Song (Tipsy)” finished out last week with about 19.6 million streams,...

Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song” Ties “Old Town Road” for Most Weeks at No.1 on Billboard Hot 100 Chart
Image
The mashup of rap and country is a winning formula: Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” has matched a Billboard record set by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cryus’ “Old Town Road.”

“A Bar Song” is spending its 19th week on top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart and ties “Old Town Road” as the longest-running No. 1 song in the chart’s 66-year history. Lil Nas X and Cyrus reached the feat in 2019 and won two Grammys for the collaboration.

Shaboozey’s anthem, which samples J-Kwon’s 2004 hit “Tipsy,” is also spending its 23rd week on top of Billboard’s Hot country songs chart. The song is nominated for three Grammys, including song of the year, best country song and best country solo performance. “A Bar Song” was nominated for single of the year at last week’s CMA Awards but lost to Chris Stapleton’s “White Horse,” and Shaboozey...

Grammys Record of the Year nominations predictions, from Billie Eilish to The Beatles
Image
The competition for Record of the Year at the 2025 Grammys is quite packed, especially with a slew of pop smashes in the running. While they may not completely dominate, it does look like we might have a lineup full of top-10 hits. Let’s dive in.

A few songs are close to locked. Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” shook the world in 2024, so it’s hard to see the Grammys passing on this one. It topped the Billboard Hot 100, and there’s typically a rap selection nominated in the general field. Plus, Lamar previously got in with the far less commercially successful song “The Heart Part 5,” so this one will likely have even more support.

Another lock here is Billie Eilish for “Birds Of A Feather,” which so far has peaked at number-two and has turned into one of her signature hits. Eilish is a Grammy darling with 11 general field noms and six wins,...

Grammys Best New Artist nominations predictions: Sabrina Carpenter vs. Chappell Roan vs. everyone else
Image
While sometimes controversial, the Grammy Award for Best New Artist is easily the biggest award a breakthrough musician can get, signifying the industry’s support for its own budding talent. It has gone to a wide range of industry favorites like Adele, The Beatles and Billie Eilish. This year the race is packed with mainstream chart breakouts and critically-acclaimed indies all battling for spots among the eight final nominees.

SEESabrina Carpenter Grammy submissions: ‘Espresso’ to Record of the Year, ‘Please Please Please’ to Song of the Year

Let’s start with the most obvious contenders. Sabrina Carpenter is one of two front-runners to win the award. She has arguably been the pop star of 2024 with the success of her chart-topping album “Short n’ Sweet,” which includes the top-five hits “Espresso” and “Taste” and the Hot 100 number-one hit “Please Please Please.” This success puts her in a strong position a win,...

Lil Nas X Congratulates Kendrick Lamar and Shaboozey for Beating Two ‘Old Town Road’ Chart Milestones

Lil Nas X congratulated Kendrick Lamar and Shaboozey after “Not Like Us” and “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” finally broke two chart records that Nas’ breakthrough behemoth, “Old Town Road,” had held since 2019.

Last week, “Not Like Us” surpassed “Old Town Road” to set a new record for the most weeks at Number One on Billboard’s Hot Rap Songs chart. “Old Town Road” held the previous record with 20 weeks atop that chart, while “Not Like Us” — Lamar’s scathing Drake diss — has now officially notched 22 weeks at Number One on Hot Rap Songs.

Gleb Savchenko and Brooks Nader DWTS relationship heats up as couple is caught in backstage video
Gleb Savchenko
Not long after Gleb Savchenko seemingly shut down rumors of anything romantic with his Dancing with the Stars partner, Brooks Nader, the couple’s recent backstage moment might suggest otherwise.

Brooks, a former Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover model, is teaming with Gleb for Season 33 of the popular dance competition series.

They’ve survived past the show’s first few episodes, including last night’s double-elimination, which sent home one of DWTS’s most controversial celebs in recent history.

Fake heiress and convicted con artist Anna Delvey didn’t gain any popularity from the fans or judges.

Delvey made headlines with her ankle monitor bracelet, brief appearance on the show, and short answers to co-host Julianne Hough’s questions.

Gleb and Brooks just made some hot headlines of their own and seemed to prove that they’re exploring a romantic connection while competing for the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy.

Beyonce Snubbed by Country Music Awards; Beyhive Vows Revenge
Image
Country music’s biggest night will be without one of the world’s biggest celebrities.

And the world is in shock as a result.

On Monday, September 6, the Country Music Association revealed the full list of nominees for the 58th Annual CMA Awards… with Morgan Wallen leading the pack with seven total nods.

As for Beyonce? She received not a single one.

Not. A. Single. One.

The shut-out is galling and surprising because Beyonce took a critically-acclaimed leap by releasing her first-ever country music album a short time ago.

It debuted atop the charts.

Back in March, the superstar explained the inspiration behind “Cowboy Carter” by saying project was “born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed.

Image
The 58th Annual Country Music Association Awards take place on November 20 at 8:00pm Eastern on ABC, and the nominations have officially been announced. Scroll down to see the complete list.

Morgan Wallen leads the way with seven nominations. He’s followed by Cody Johnson and Chris Stapleton with five, while Post Malone and Lainey Wilson picked up four. This was Malone’s first foray into country music, and it proved successful. Mysteriously, Beyonce wasn’t received as warmly; she and her “Cowboy Carter” crossover album were snubbed entirely.

Wallen, Stapleton and Wilson are up for Entertainer of the Year, joined by Luke Combs and Jelly Roll who have three nominations apiece. Wilson was the surprise winner in 2023, making her the first woman in 12 years to take the prize. Before her Taylor Swift prevailed in 2009 and 2011, and if Wilson wins again she will join Swift and Barbara Mandrell on the very,...

Morgan Wallen is the leading nominee for the 58th annual CMA Awards, with seven nods. He had some help with that — most notably in the form of his featured duet appearance on Post Malone’s smash “I Had Some Help,” which was nominated in four categories.

Wallen’s seven nominations for the annual kudos from the Country Music Association are followed by five each for Cody Johnson and Chris Stapleton. Just behind that mark, Post Malone’s four nominations landed him in a tie with reigning entertainer of the year Lainey Wilson.

Seven artists or producer-writers picked up three nominations each: singers Luke Combs, Jelly Roll, Megan Maroney and Kacey Musgraves, along with Louis Bell, Charlie Handsome and Hoskins, all three of whom co-produced “I Had Some Help” and also are among the credited writers on the tune.

In the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles on Friday and obtained by Rolling Stone, Shaboozey alleges that he tried to exercise a clause in his administration deal that would allow him to pay 110 percent of his unrecouped balances so he could exit the deal early. Emily Ratajkowski & Shaboozey Attend 'Blink Twice' Screening in NYC Amid Romance Rumors
Image
Emily Ratajkowski and Shaboozey are continuing to fuel those romance rumors!

The 33-year-old model and the 29-year-old “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” singer, whose real name is Collins Obinna Chibueze, tried to keep a low profile as they left a screening of the new movie Blink Twice on Wednesday night (August 21) in New York City.

For their night out, Emily wore a gray mini dress with strappy black heels while Shaboozey who a light blue shirt over a white tank shirt paired with denim pants and black boots.

Emily and Shaboozey first sparked dating rumors earlier this month when they were spotted holding hands while attending Rema‘s album release party.

Then a few days later, Emily showed up to support Shaboozey at his Z100 Summer Bash set.

In an interview from earlier this year, Emily opened up about dating as a single mother.

Beyoncé, Zach Bryan, Kacey Musgraves, Shaboozey Among Leading Nominees for ‘People’s Choice Country’ Second Annual Awards
Image
The People’s Choice Country Awards, first held in 2023, will return for a second edition on NBC in September, with a list of nominees announced Thursday that includes some of the biggest names crossing over between country and the pop mainstream, including Beyoncé, Shaboozey, Zach Bryan, Kacey Musgraves, Morgan Wallen and Jelly Roll.

Bryan led the nominations with 19, followed by Beyoncé with 17 and Musgraves with 15. Notably, none of those three artists had a huge year at country radio, despite their outsized presences as mass-media superstars. That may be one way in which this awards show is looking to distinguish itself from two of its most obvious competitors, the country-music-industry-voted CMA Awards and ACM Awards.

The fan-voted awards show will be telecast on NBC and Peacock on Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. Et/Pt from the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, with Shania Twain hosting.

‘Snow White and the Seven Samurai’ Review
Image
Stars: Fiona Dorn, Eric Roberts, Gina Vitori, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, Sunny Tellone | Written by Jacob David Smith | Directed by Michael Su

Long before Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, The Asylum was updating and repurposing myths and fairy tales into films like The 7 Adventures of Sinbad, 3 Musketeers, Avengers Grimm and the absolutely bizarre King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Here, they’ve taken the legend of Snow White and thrown in a name check of Kurosawa’s classic Seven Samurai to give us Snow White and the Seven Samurai.

Anya Voight wants her father to consider a change of careers. Considering he’s one of the biggest cocaine kingpins in the country, that’s not an easy thing to do. But she’s adamant, not only is it dangerous, but because of what he does, people keep calling her Snow White.

Their heart-to-heart chat is interrupted by a hooded assassin,...

4 songs of the summer to watch out for at the Grammys
Image
There’s something special about summer hits, isn’t there? Marketing your song in the summer oftentimes means it will be more memorable to Grammy voters than the slew of songs that get swallowed up at Christmastime on the charts or the early birds that, by December, are kind of erased from our collective memory. A lot of the most nominated artists each year are, perhaps not coincidentally, some of the biggest names that peaked during the warmer months. This summer has given us a few smash hits that you should probably keep in mind for Grammy nominations.
