Usually when someone throws down a gauntlet, there’s an epic tussle for power that runs people ragged. A fantastical showing of dynamic feats. A gauntlet is something we should fear, something that’s challenging, and most importantly, something really freakin’ entertaining. Matt Eskandari’s film The Gauntlet isn’t a total wash, because there are most certainly moments of thrilling excitement and impending doom – but not as many as there should have been. Eskandari’s eye for atmospheric detail did wonders for the sunken castle set production, but Adam Lawson’s screenplay unfortunately missed that epic “Wow” factor that Eskandari shot for – ultimately leaving us in a battle with our own attention spans.
Meet David (Warren Kole). He’s just woken up in some medieval-looking location, has no recollection of how he got there, and is laying on a pile of bones. Probably not the best scenario to be in,...

#1: RZA talks “Iron Fist”
We already knew that multi-talented artist RZA was writing and directing a martial arts genre mash-up titled Iron Fist. Admittedly around these parts we’re pretty big fans of RZA and excited to see what he’s got to offer but if this recent interview with La Times is any indication, there’s good reason for it too. In the mix is Tarantino who appears to be a great influence to the musician turned director, Eli Roth who, love him or hate him, knows what he’s doing, and Jim Jarmusch. Can’t wait until we finally have some footage.

We'll try our best to dig up some more on the flick, but the folks behind it are being scarily tight-lipped. In the interim check out the stills below by clicking on the image, and look for more whenever we get it.
Synopsis

A movie premiere just isn't a movie premiere without Bai Ling... At this week's red carpet for The Black Waters of Echo's Pond I chatted with the ubiquitous actress about her two upcoming thrillers, The Gauntlet and The Confidant. Read what she had to say after the jump. "Gauntlet was shot in China," she told me, "It's about six people who are lost, trapped underground, but they have to survive. There's danger and they have lost their memory and they have to fight. They become friends, but in the end they find out only one person has survived, so the test was to kill each other. It's about human potential, human danger, what we are...

Somewhere, in an underground castle in China, six strangers awake with no memories. Yes, we seem to be getting a lot of these kinds of films lately, but Matt Eskandari's upcoming thriller, The Guantlet, looks like it might bring a little bit of extra mysticism to the survivalist horror genre.
When I looked up a little bit more about the project I found out that Eskandari and writer Adam Lawson were influenced, of course, by films like Saw, but also classic mysteries, like Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None" about ten strangers who are lured to an Island by an unknown host.

The witch trifecta is complete. The Warner Bros.-produced, ABC-broadcast pilot Eastwick has signed on Rebecca Romijn as Roxie, the "bohemian and sharp-tongued single mother," who is coming in to her powers. Romijn (I don't think I will ever get used to dropping the Stamos from her name) is best known to readers as Mystique from The X-Men films. She joins a cast that includes Lindsay Price (Lipstick Jungle) and Jaime Ray Newman (The Gauntlet) as her fellow witches. Eastwick is loosely based on the 1980s film The Witches of Eastwick, which, in turn, was based on the John Updike novel of the same name. Though the TV series is more "inspired by" than "remake of," it still follows...

The Witches of Eastwick pilot for ABC is one witch richer. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jamie Ray Newman has been tapped to play one of the three lead witches. Newman has a slew of TV guest spots to her credit, including Supernatural, Medium, Criminal Minds, and Stargate: Atlantis. She is also slated to star in the upcoming "where am I and how do I get out of here" horror flick The Gauntlet. Veronica Cartwright, who played Felicia Alden in the original film, will have a co-starring role. The actress, whose career has spanned six decades, would be best know to FEARNet readers from roles in The Birds, Alien, the 1978 Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and Candyman: Farwell to...
