The star appeared in a video clip to announce that the film is titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day, set to hit theaters July 31, 2026. Filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) also took the stage at CinemaCon on Monday, where he copped to having just lost $200 at the roulette table in Las Vegas.

“To say that it’s an honor to be standing on this stage is a pretty big understatement,” Cretton said. He explained that he was a lifelong fan of the character and has been drawn to Peter Parker’s “humor” and “messy humanity.”

Holland appeared in a video segment and gave a “massive thank you for all of your support.” He added, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a fresh start.”

Are movie theaters still relevant?

It’s a question that’s been plaguing the badly bruised business ever since the pandemic and 2023 strikes.

Of course, “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Barbenheimer” were glorious reminders of all that cinemas can offer. But along with those high highs were the low lows (like “Joker: Folie à Deux” and “Borderlands”) and worse. There was no consistency to assure Hollywood that moviegoing remains a way of life and not just a semiannual occurrence.

This year, 2025, has been positioned as the Great Reset — the first period without any asterisks to excuse the industry’s lack of recovery. So far, though, box office grosses are grim. Year-to-date revenues are 5% behind 2024 and nearly 38% behind 2019, according to Comscore. Also, 2024 was the first year since the pademic that overall returns didn’t improve upon the last, though all the strike-related release-date delays certainly didn’t help.

Snow White should have easily walked away with the top spot again over the weekend, but the film’s controversy seriously undermined the live-action reimagining’s financial performance at the box office. Black Panther director Ryan Coogler recently shared an update on Denzel Washington's MCU casting. He remains hopeful that Washington will come on board for the third entry in the Black Panther franchise.

Marvel announced a pretty deep bench of stars for “Avengers: Doomsday” on Wednesday, giving fans a first look at what the new era of the team will look like. Of course, it also left us with a bunch more questions, so let’s get into those.

The next team-up film is set to hit theaters in May of next year, and will be directed by the Russo brothers, returning to the franchise after directing four other major films in the franchise. We know that Robert Downey Jr. is also returning to Marvel for the film, this time as Doctor Doom.

Marvel is also bringing back many fan-favorite Fox X-Men characters, members of the Thunderbolts, and a Wakandan contingent. However, many fans lamented the conspicuous absence of other characters, like Tom Holland's Spider-Man, Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Stephen Strange, and Mark Ruffalo's Hulk. Their worry about these absences may be premature because the studio has teased the inclusion of even more characters as the Russo brothers-helmed behemoth swings into production. Anthony Carrigan, the star of TV shows like Barry, and the recent horror comedy Death of a Unicorn, is set to join James Gunn's Dcu in this year's Supermanreboot. Judging by the trailer and the reaction it got, Gunn's formal feature film introduction to the Dcu franchise promises to be a solid revival of the character. However, some viewers still associate Gunn with his previous superhero run in the MCU and the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. While keeping many of the details close to his chest, Carrigan has now teased how Superman will differ from the cherished MCU trilogy.

In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Carrigan talked Superman and his role as Rex Mason/Metamorpho, and while the actor didn't completely spill the beans about the superhero movie, he sounds as excited as everyone else: "I haven't seen anything, just the trailers. But I'm very excited.

AMC Entertainment has partnered with South Korea’s Cj 4DPlex to launch 65 premium format cinemas at locations across the US and Europe.

The move will see 25 ScreenX locations begin opening this summer and 40 4Dx installations start their rollout this autumn. All are expected to be operating by 2027.

At 11 a.m. this morning, the Marvel Studios social media accounts started live-streaming a video they labeled as an all-caps Announcement. The video showed a soundstage where, one by one, chairs reserved for actors were revealed, with a new chair coming into view every 10 minutes or so. As it turns out, this was a very long and slow way of revealing the star-studded cast of Avengers: Doomsday, which is now heading into production and aiming for a May 1, 2026 theatrical release.

The first chair belonged to Chris Hemsworth, who has played Thor, the God of Thunder, in Thor, The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Doctor Strange, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Thor: Love and Thunder. The second chair was reserved for Vanessa Kirby, who plays Susan Storm (a.k.a. Invisible Woman) in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which will be reaching theatres on July 25th.

Marvel Studios is apparently playing the prank of the century with the longest casting announcement in cinema history for "Avengers: Doomsday," revealing a bevy of performers one at a time in a special livestream over the course of several hours ... though one name in particular is causing many fans to scratch their heads. In addition to all the usual suspects, from legacy Avengers cast members like Chris Hemsworth to the A-list cast of the upcoming "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" to several members of "Thunderbolts," the addition of longtime character actor Kelsey Grammer came as a surprise to many. Not only will the "Frasier" star will apparently be joining the action, but he'll be doing so by reprising his role as Dr. Hank McCoy/Beast from the original "X-Men" franchise.

With the curtain soon to go up on CinemaCon, and as theaters look to add more lucrative premium formats in a still shaky market, AMC Entertainment and Cj 4Dplex have partnered on 65 premium ScreenX and 4Dx locations worldwide.

Some 40 4Dx theaters and 25 ScreenX theaters will debut across key AMC and Odeon locations across the U.S. and Europe starting this summer.

Cj 4Dplex is the leading producer of premium film formats and cinema technologies. AMC is the largest theatrical exhibitor. This is their first global partnership and will deliver the ScreenX and 4Dx experience to AMC’s U.S. locations for the first time.

For AMC, the first few theaters with ScreenX – which extends scenes onto the left and right walls of the auditorium – will open in time for the Hollywood summer blockbuster season. The first locations with 4Dx – which provides moviegoers with a multisensory cinematic presentation — are set to open in the fall. They want to complete the full rollout by 2027.

The second largest U.S. chain, Regal, is currently Cj 4Dplex’s largest partner Stateside with 52 4Dx theaters in operation as well as 52 ScreenX theaters. Regal opened its first 4Dx theater in the U.S. in 2014. Its relatively new auditorium at Times Square made Twisters in 4Dx go viral. Cj 4Dplex has 62 4Dx theaters and 29 ScreenX theaters with Regal’s sister companies Cineworld and Cci across Europe and Israel.

AMC and Cj 4Cplex currently operate six ScreenX auditoriums in Europe under the Odeon Cinemas banner. This deal will bring the total premium screen count for Cj 4Dplex to over 1,200 globally. It comes as theaters struggle to revive moviegoing from a prolonged slump that has seen premium formats over-index with ticket buyers. That’s likely to be a major topic at CinemaCon, the annual gathering of global exhibitors in Las Vegas that starts next Monday,

ScreenX is a multi-projection cinema technology with an immersive 270-degree panoramic viewing experience, surrounding the audience with story-enhancing visuals that cannot be replicated at home. The innovative screen format places everyone in the auditorium directly at the center of the motion picture.

The ScreenX theaters will feature luxury recliner seating, Barco Laser, and immersive audio for an enhanced viewing experience. To date, there are over 430 Screenx auditoriums around the world in 40 countries.

4Dx allows audiences to connect with films through motion, vibration, wind, lightning, scents, and other special effects that enhance the visuals on-screen. Each 4Dx auditorium incorporates motion-based seating synchronized with more than 21 different effects and optimized by a team of skilled editors. While he is sure to be just a little biased, The Fantastic Four: First Steps actor Paul Walter Hauser is confident that the upcoming Marvel Studios reboot will be the best movie released this year - and may even prove to be an historical benchmark for the studio.

While speaking to The Direct, the Black Bird star - who is believed to be playing the villainous Mole Man in the movie - hyped up Marvel's First Family's latest big-screen adventure by comparing it to the likes of the first Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Panther. The ever-growing cast list for the upcoming MCU sequel Avengers: Doomsday continues to churn out names, and while many of the names emblazoned across the back of a chair are unsurprising, one name has stood out so far. The ongoing announcement has now confirmed that one of the MCU’s best (but sadly forgotten) villains will return to the franchise several years after making their debut.
