In recent years, many Barbie fans have been satiated by re-watching episodes of Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse and other releases on Netflix. The latest Netflix drop, released this year, is Barbie & Teresa: Recipe for Friendship. But, these projects cannot compare with the character’s best films from the 2000s.
Following the success of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie in 2023, there were rumors that Illumination (the studio behind projects like Despicable Me) had an interest in making more Barbie animated films. As this proposed partnership has not yet yielded any classics, it may be opportune to reminisce on some early Barbie movies that still hold up today.

As a Brit, I may be a little biased when I say this: The opening ceremony for the London 2012 Summer Olympics was the best ever. Directed by Danny Boyle, the usual hour of dancers and acrobats twirling around was spectacular and silly, complete with skits celebrating the Industrial Revolution, the NHS, and the nation's rich cultural scene. Movie buffs also got two special treats: Rowan Atkinson as Mr. Bean daydreaming about beating the boys from "Chariots of Fire" in their famous beach race, and Queen Elizabeth II making her screen debut opposite Daniel Craig's James Bond before her stunt double sky-dived into the stadium. It was surely the best trailer "Skyfall," which hit theaters a few months later, could have hoped for.
The music of the Fab Four featured heavily during the ceremony, complete with Sir Paul McCartney wrapping things up by leading a sing-a-long to "Hey Jude." As such,...

“Christmas Carol” is a 2022 Korean movie, categorized as Thriller, Crime, Mystery, and Revenge; based on the novel of the same name by Joo Won-Kyu; and is streaming on Tubi TV.
Summary: A young man is talking to his twin brother on the phone and can hear him being attacked. The police found his brother’s dead body on Christmas day and they closed the case as an accident. But he tracked down the killer to get revenge.
My Twin Brother’s Death Was Not an Accident
In “Christmas Carol”, Joo Wol-Woo and Joo Il-Woo are twin brothers. Joo Wol-Woo is mentally challenged. Or to use the politically incorrect word: he’s a retard. He’s pure and innocent, and he loves his brother. By contrast, Joo Il-Woo is “normal” and takes care of his brother, although he finds the responsibility burdensome and is often angry about it. Until … he sees his brother’s dead body.

It is just about an immutable truth that Michael Caine is doing God-level work as Ebenezer Scrooge in "The Muppet Christmas Carol." The 1992 adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic is, partly because it arrived in theaters soon after the tragic and untimely passing of Muppet creator Jim Henson, a surprisingly straightforward take on the holiday story of a grouchy and rich old Londoner who gets a revival of the human spirit after experiencing ghostly visions. With Henson no longer in the mix, the Muppets themselves (especially those originally performed by the great man) take something of a back seat in the film.
Of course, if you are making an adaptation of "A Christmas Carol," focusing on the performer playing Scrooge does make pretty obvious sense. And Michael Caine, by that point an Oscar winner for his supporting work in Woody Allen's "Hannah and Her Sisters," seemed then and now...

Several great stories about the underbelly of Victorian London get smushed together to yield something less great but often extremely entertaining in Steven Knight’s new Hulu drama, A Thousand Blows.
Knight comes off less like a master storyteller here than a highly enthusiastic autodidact learning new things and then flailing a bit in making connections. That just means that, at its worst, A Thousand Blows — which caps these first six episodes with a “To Be Continued” title card and clips from additional upcoming episodes — will send interested observers online in search of the true stories about all-female criminal gangs, nascent gloved boxing and 19th-century concert hall performers.
So you’ve got well-acted, well-produced, genre-bending period television and an inspiration to do further research? You could do far worse, and the wildly prolific Knight — he of Peaky Blinders, The Veil and All the Light We Cannot See — has done both better and worse.

Colman Domingo, the star of shows like Euphoria and films like The Color Purple and If Beale Street Could Talk, has shared that his role as Victor Strand in the spin-off in The Walking Dead universe,Fear the Walking Dead, changed his entire career.
His role in Fear the Walking Dead was not exactly his first performance on television. Domingo had been featured before in numerous Law & Order episodes, but afterward he mostly stayed on the stage playing several characters in theater adaptations of classics like A Christmas Carol, Henry V and The Taming of the Shrew. In 2015, all that would change.
Domingo was a guest on theHappy Sad Confused podcast, and he recalled being approached with the idea of starring in a TV show and his initial thoughts were, "I was a theater snob. I was like, 'Absolutely not.'" The actor claims that it took a little...

Landing a series regular role on any kind of television show can be a dream come true for an up-and-coming actor, particularly if that series happens to be a network sitcom with an episode order that stretches into the 20s. That's some serious financial stability that, should the show catch on, could turn the actor into an audience favorite if not a full-blown television star.
Few ensembles have experienced greater long-term success in this department than the cast of "The Big Bang Theory." For 12 seasons stretching from 2007 to 2019, the series was anchored by its core five stars: Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper, Johnny Galecki as Leonard Hofstadter, Kaley Cuoco as Penny, Simon Helberg as Howard Wolowitz, and Kunal Nayyar as Rajesh Koothrappali. Some of these folks were better known than the others at first, but by the end of the show's run they'd become one of the most beloved sitcom casts in television history.

Jim Carrey’s Epic A Christmas Carol Transformation (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Jim Carrey went full professional mode in A Christmas Carol (2009), taking on seven roles like it’s no big deal. We all know Carrey can do anything—rubber-faced comedy, dramatic tearjerkers, or anything. But this? This was another level.
Not only did he bring Ebenezer Scrooge to life, but he also played all three Christmas ghosts. Robert Zemeckis brought this chef-d’oeuvre to life with motion-capture CGI, giving it a reinvigorated spin. And with Carrey at the helm, it’s an unconditional masterclass in doing the most.

Michiel ten Horn’s “Fabula” – which opens this year’s edition of International Film Festival Rotterdam – follows a “dumb, selfish gangster who gets himself into a lot of trouble,” explains the director. But there’s a “philosophical layer” to it as well.
“It’s a redemption story, almost like ‘A Christmas Carol.’ He’s like a Charles Dickens character who’s visited by four ghosts and put through a real beating in order to learn something.”
In his crime comedy, Jos (“Speak No Evil’s” Fedja van Huêt) is used to bad luck – after all, his family has been dealing with it for years. But as a drug deal goes terribly wrong and, on top of it all, he finds out he’s about to become a grandfather, Jos’ determined to finally break the circle.
“I think the audience likes it when a character is struggling but also trying his best to achieve something.

The world premiere of a new satirical play about the financial crash of 2008, starring Brian Cox, will open this year’s Edinburgh International Festival.
Make It Happen, written by James Graham (Sherwood, Quiz) and directed by Andrew Panton (Osage County, The Children, A Christmas Carol), artistic director of Dundee Rep Theatre, will mark the return of Succession star Cox to the Scottish stage for the first time in 10 years.
Make It Happen will open the annual arts fest in the Scottish capital and run for a week at the Festival Theatre from Aug. 1 to 9.
Set in Edinburgh, the play sees Cox portray Adam Smith, the pioneering Scottish philosopher and economist, and the ghost of fiscal past. Graham’s writing dives into the “unchecked growth, spiralling greed and nail-biting hubris that brought the world’s economy to its knees,” a plot synopsis read.

This past holiday season, we shared some unconventional Christmas movie recommendations, like The Silent Partner, Anna and the Apocalypse, The Ref, and my own recommendation, Trancers. But even though I love Trancers and also watch Anna and the Apocalypse every December, my two favorite Christmas movies are not unconventional choices at all: every December 25th, I watch A Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation. Very common choices. Someone else with very common choice for their favorite Christmas movie is filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, who revealed to BFI that his holiday favorite is It’s a Wonderful Life.

Dual performances always catch the eye, and they have often been used to showcase multiple sides to an actor's talents. Jim Carrey has been getting a lot of attention for playing two characters in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and some of the most exciting movies of 2025 also feature actors working overtime. Robert Pattinson, Robert De Niro and Michael B. Jordan all have dual roles lined up for 2025.
Actors mostly play multiple characters in comedy movies, just like Carrey in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Other common reasons for having a dual performance in a movie include stories with twins, or sci-fi movies with clones or humanoid robots. A dual performance is always an interesting novelty that a studio can use to promote a movie, but the best actors can turn these types of roles into more than just a gimmick.

Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" was first published in 1843. It was an instant success, quickly and deeply branding itself into the British consciousness. The story became widely spread, and soon other enterprising authors were eager to jump on Dickens' coattails; as early as 1844, "A Christmas Carol" was adapted to the stage no less than three times. After Dickens himself finished writing "David Copperfield" in 1853, he began giving live readings of a truncated version of his tale. He then proceeded to read the story for live, paying audiences every year for the next 17 years.
The story of "A Christmas Carol" follows a wealthy miser named Ebenezer Scrooge who ... Wait, what am I doing? You know the story of "A Christmas Carol." It's one of the most famous, enduring, and otherwise repeated stories in the history of Western literature.

This time of year, movie lovers have no shortage of Christmas classics from which to choose. From Rankin/Bass’ iconic animated specials to cinematic ventures, like Miracle on 34th Street, there are plenty of seasonal favorites to enjoy, especially for fans of Charles Dickens’ classic, A Christmas Carol. There are countless adaptations of the iconic tale, ranging from 1951’s Alastair Sim-led version to The Muppet Christmas Carol; it remains one of the most adapted stories of all time. One version, however, that often gets lost among Scrooge-y collections is 2004’s musical spin. Based upon the 1994 Broadway musical, this version holds nothing back. It’s filled with stars like Kelsey Grammer and Jane Krakowski and overflowing with drama, comedy, and lots of camp. But that’s exactly what makes it so good.

The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has given Jim Carrey the best Rotten Tomatoes streak of his entire career. Though Jim Carrey is most known for his 1900s hits, which include Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, Liar Liar, and The Truman Show, his practice stood strong as far as the late-2000s before hitting a rough patch of roles that lasted over 10 years. With Dr. Robotnik, the actor returned to his signature physical and cartoonish comedy, proving he’s still got that charm and talent that won people’s hearts so long ago.

Jim Carrey came out of retirement for the alluring feat of portraying both Ivo and Gerald Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Though the actor had previously claimed he would retire after the second installment, producer Toby Ascher and director Jeff Fowler convinced him to return with a heartfelt story and an acting challenge. His willingness and efforts then paid off, as Sonic the Hedgehog 3's reviews have shown no shortage of praise for Carrey's dual performance as grandfather and grandson.

We are now in the season of his beloved short story A Christmas Carol, but really, Charles Dickens never goes out of season. One of the 19th-century writer's most popular novels, Great Expectations, has been adapted to the screen many times. Most recently, Steven Knight's miniseries based on the novel came to Hulu in 2023, featuring Olivia Colman as the icon herself, Miss Havisham. However, going back a little more than a decade, the 2012 3-episode miniseries starring Gillian Anderson as Miss Havisham, Douglas Booth as Pip, and Vanessa Kirby as Estella ultimately takes the cake as one of the most visually stunning, well-acted Dickens adaptations so far. This iteration of the novel from director Brian Kirk really captures the tone of the novel and has a standout performance from Anderson that is one of the best of her career.

With the number of times A Christmas Carol has been remade and rebooted, at least a couple versions are gonna fall through the cracks. Some deservedly so, like the cash-grab comedy remakes that look more like a cell-phone commercial than a genuine feature film. Others, though, just seem to draw the short straw, even missing out on things like DVD releases, probably because the Christmas movie shelf at Best Buy had already hit its safe-rated weight limit.
So it wasn’t surprising to me to find out that there’s a version of A Christmas Carol I hadn’t seen. What was surprising was that it was executive-produced by a man most famous for co-creating Bugs Bunny and being the big papa of classic Looney Tunes: Chuck Jones.

Right away, this typography is a little more “Nightmare Before” than “Christmas.”
Three things piqued my interest further:
It was known for being extremely creepy.

Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry intentionally created a future where humanity had largely abandoned organized religion. Because of this, Christmas is rarely mentioned throughout the Star Trek timeline, and none of the franchise's main characters are shown openly celebrating the holiday. Still, if the Christmas season is about celebrating friends and family and the beauty of human connection, then Star Trek has plenty of episodes for that.
From Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and his Starship Enterprise crew to the lower deckers of the USS Cerritos, Star Trek has always been a celebration of found families and the progress that can be achieved by working together. Every Star Trek series has episodes that highlight the camaraderie and celebration often associated with Christmas. Some of these Star Trek episodes take inspiration directly from...

Isn’t it weird how the single most influential piece of Christmas-related media is technically a horror story? One of the greatest literary hits of the 19th century, one can even make the argument that Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol paved the way for the rise of Victorian Spiritualism during the following decade. And while the book’s iconic phantoms were immortalized by the gorgeous illustrations by John Leech, future adaptations of the story would all offer different interpretations of the ghosts that terrify Ebenezer Scrooge into becoming a better person.
With that in mind, we’ve decided to celebrate the holiday season by highlighting six of the scariest ghosts from over a century of A Christmas Carol adaptations. After all, with so many spooky spirits haunting cinema and television screens, we’re bound to run into some festive nightmare fuel along the way.

When it comes to Christmas classics, images of snowy landscapes, heartwarming reunions, and festive miracles often come to mind. While Western audiences often treasure films like It’s a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol, the world of anime has its own unsung masterpiece in Satoshi Kon’s Tokyo Godfathers, which was released in 2003.

Set on the premise of Christmas Eve in Tokyo, this film goes beyond conventional holiday storytelling. Unlike the fantastical works of Hayao Miyazaki, which often transport viewers to magical realms, Tokyo Godfathers is grounded in the raw reality of urban life and human struggle. But still, it stands out as an essential Christmas classic; not because of its dazzling animation or whimsical worlds, but due to its deep exploration of family, redemption, and the human spirit.

Jim Carrey's divisive Christmas movie has become a streaming hit 24 years after its original release. The comedic actor rose to stardom during the 1990s with a series of box office hits, starting with Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber (all released in 1994), followed by Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls and Batman Forever (both in 1995). These hits made Carrey one of the highest-paid comedic actors, starting with the slightly darker comedy, The Cable Guy, in 1996 and Liar Liar in 1997.
Carrey's success as a leading comedic actor continued well into the 2000s, starting with How the Grinch Stole Christmas in 2000, which became the second highest-grossing Christmas movie of all time, and continued with Bruce Almighty, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, and Yes Man in the following years. In 2009, Carrey played multiple characters in the 3D animated adaptation of the classic Charles Dickens story, A Christmas Carol,...

Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol is one of the most recognizable stories in the world. The story of Scrooge being visited by three ghosts on Christmas Eve in order to change his ways is so iconic that it has been adapted into nearly every medium, or to quote Bart Simpson regarding the story, "TV writers have been milking that goat for years." From the Muppets to Mickey Mouse to Batman, A Christmas Carol can seemingly fit any story. Alastair Sim's Scrooge, George C. Scott's 1984 A Christmas Carol, the modern retelling of Scrooged with Bill Murray, and even Jim Carrey's Uncanny Valley 2009 version are just a few of the iconic retellings of Christmas Carol. There is seemingly a version for everyone.

“Written by Steven Moffat”. On Christmas Day! My god, how we’ve missed those words. Did any of us truly, in our wildest dreams, think that was something we’d ever get from Doctor Who again? It’s like thinking you’ve had all your presents only to spot a mountain bike with a ribbon around it behind the sofa. The writer responsible for some of the show’s best festive outings returns for a story that hits all the usual Moffatty timey-wimey buttons: clever, funny, emotionally punchy and, occasionally, absolutely exasperating. His previous Christmas specials have ranged from the sublime to the flaky, and ‘Joy To The World’ sits somewhere in the middle — though thankfully closer to the former than the latter.

The holidays are upon us, so you'd expect the major streaming services' top titles to be yuletide classics that the whole family can enjoy. This is hilariously not the case, however, and it's either a sign of broadening tastes or coarsening sensibilities.
I'm not going to take issue with viewers getting into the Christmas spirit by watching such violent delights as "Die Hard," "Silent Night, Deadly Night" or any of the Shane Black classics set around the holiday. I might just plop down and run a marathon of "Lethal Weapon," "The Last Boy Scout," "The Long Kiss Goodnight," and "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" myself on Christmas Eve. Christmas Day is when you bust out "It's a Wonderful Life" (a remarkably dark movie itself) or any one of the adaptations of "A Christmas Carol."
But if FlixPatrol's report on the most popular movies currently streaming on Max is to be believed,...

Christmas movies often come with nostalgia and cheer, but some gems are overshadowed by classics like Home Alone and Elf. Here’s a list of ten underrated Christmas movies that deserve a spot in your holiday viewing rotation:
1. The Family Stone (2005)
This heartwarming dramedy follows a chaotic family reunion when the eldest son brings home his uptight girlfriend. With a stellar cast, including Diane Keaton and Rachel McAdams, it balances humor and poignant moments beautifully.
2. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005)
A Christmas movie for those who love crime, dark humor, and Robert Downey Jr. This Shane Black-directed neo-noir comedy is witty, unconventional, and full of holiday spirit in the quirkiest way possible.
3. Arthur Christmas (2011)
This animated film by Aardman Animations is a delightful take on the magic of Christmas, following Santa’s clumsy son, Arthur, as he tries to deliver a forgotten gift. It’s heartfelt, visually stunning, and criminally overlooked.

’Twas the weekend before Christmas… With the holiday season upon us, many of us are starting to revisit some of our of Christmas favourites. I actually went to see a 4K re-release of the original Black Christmas last night here in Montreal. There’s something comforting upon returning to our old favourites every year, whether they be traditional Christmas classics, or perhaps something a little more modern, like Die Hard, which, despite many claiming otherwise, has totally established itself as a Christmas classic over the years.
Whatever the case, there are certainly Loads of Christmas movies, with everything from old-time classics like It’s A Wonderful Life or some of the many versions of A Christmas Carol (the Alistair Sim version is the best Imo), or something like Love Actually, which is virtually inescapable at this time of the year.

Although cinema is an art form, first and foremost, it is also a business that requires financial support to be sustained. A healthy box office is necessary for the medium to remain a cornerstone of popular culture, as studios will only be willing to invest in future projects if it is proven that there is an audience that is willing to go out and see them. 2024 was a year in which there were tremendous box office highs, but the delays due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes did lead to some crushing lows.
Box office performances are a compelling way to examine where the industry is headed, but it is not necessarily an indication of quality. Although films like “Deadpool & Wolverine,” “Inside Out 2,” “Kung Fu Panda 4,” “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” and “Wicked: Part One” performed extraordinarily well this year, few publications that take themselves seriously...

As Elon Musk continues to prove his influence over Donald Trump, Seth Meyers is pretty certain that relationship is going to go up in flames. According to the “Late Night” host, “it’s just a question of how and when” at this point.
Meyers spent the majority of his “A Closer Look” segment on Thursday night calling out how Trump spent years claiming he doesn’t need anyone’s money and would not be influenced by wealthy donors, only to now have billionaire Musk weighing in on nearly every decision.
Many don’t expect that to go over well, as Wall Street Journal reporter Vivian Salama, explained during a recent appearance on CNN that Meyers played. She noted that “Donald Trump typically likes to kind of be his own spokesman,” so “tt’ll be interesting to see how this plays out.”

Doctor Who's Christmas Specials have become an iconic staple of the festive season. They have proven highly entertaining to audiences of all ages, offering viewers many fun adventures through space and time. Since the show returned in 2005, Doctor Who has consistently aired new installments during the holiday season, which have aired on either Christmas Day or New Year's Day. Traditionally, these exciting stories have been written by the current showrunner. This year's Special, "Joy To The World," is the first Christmas episode to be written by a guest writer. Steven Moffat has been handed the reigns by Russell T Davies, detailing the Doctor's encounter with the bemused hotel guest, Joy. The pair find themselves inside a Time Hotel, with doors leading to Christmas in the Past, Present, and Future.

Since it was released over 30 years ago, The Muppet Christmas Carol has become a staple Christmas movie for many to watch during the holiday season. Starring Michael Caine as the human lead character, the Christmas-hating Ebenezer Scrooge, The Muppet Christmas Carol loosely retells the story of Charles Dickens’ classic 1843 novella with various Muppet characters, making for a strange setup considering the original text was much darker. However, the Christmas movie is widely regarded as one of the best A Christmas Carol movie adaptations due to being an easily accessible musical, scoring an 86% Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes.
There have been many modern versions of the A Christmas Carol story, from 2022’s Spirited (starring Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell) to Jim Carrey’s motion captured A Christmas Carol, yet none of them are quite like the muppet movie. No one could ever say conjuring up modern-day Christmas movie magic is an easy feat; it's hard to create something that will become a classic addition to the holiday canon. Still, it thankfully doesn't stop people from trying. Apple TV+ made their attempt at a festive classic with the 2022 holiday musical, Spirited. With Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell leading the way, it's another take on the timeless, endlessly adapted Dickens' tale, A Christmas Carol.
Hopes were high, as high as the budget and a top-tier team assembled of comedy writer and director Sean Anders, songwriting duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and the chance for Reynolds to star alongside his comedy hero for the first time. But while Ferrell's Elf remains a favorite Christmas movie for many, only two years down the line, has Spirited already been forgotten?

The following contains major spoilers from NCIS Season 22, Episode 9, "Humbug," which debuted Monday, Dec. 16 on CBS.
NCIS Season 22, Episode 9, "Humbug" is the quintessential Christmas episode of a TV show, and that's a compliment. TV Christmas episodes tend to follow a specific mold. Audiences want a feel-good story, and then there's usually a subplot about somebody's plans for the holiday, and a lot of awkward Christmas-related humor. The episode is mostly carried by its guest cast, including the return of Seamus Dever as Deputy Director Laroche,...

I’ll admit, for a moment, I thought we were settling in for a cozy, feel-good holiday episode.
You know the drill — sweet kringles, glowing Christmas trees, a heartwarming reading of A Christmas Carol, and a touching “Mankind is our business” speech to kick off NCIS Season 22 Episode 9.
But this is NCIS, folks. Warm and fuzzy? Please.

Gunfire was practically on the RSVP list, and of course, Gabriel Laroche waltzed back into the picture like the Grinch who stole McGee’s holiday cheer.
Let’s start with the big return — Laroche.
He’s not just lurking in the shadows this time. Oh no, he’s overseeing a very sensitive case because, naturally, there’s nothing like tossing fuel on an already smoldering fire.

And hey, it’s...
