Despite a memorable opening scene and terrifically spooky music from composer Colin McGinness, director/writer David Creed's Sacrilege fails to adhere to all good horror films' sacred oath to build suspense.

Its cardinal sin is a complete, total, utter, extreme lack of originality. The title does it justice, really. Sacrilege will most likely be viewed as such by horror film aficionados.

Uninspired in terms of narrative ingenuity, Sacrilege mimics cult horror tropes with detached superficiality, failing to either scare or compel.

Sacrilege doesn’t defile a horror formula. It just shows us how following the recipe to the letter doesn’t always work.
