Writer/Director Christopher Folkens’ debut feature film “Catalyst”, is a gritty, contained thriller that explores the dark storylines that headline modern life. ‘Catalyst’ is a psychological thriller set to premiere across all major Tvod platforms on Tuesday February 11th. The film was shot in a stunningly unique manner. Principal photography began in June of 2017 where over seven hours of footage was shot on three cameras with 100% improvised dialogue. Griselda, the 2024 miniseries based on the life of the infamous Colombian drug lord, features June Hawkins (Juliana Aidén Martinez) in a critical role, a real-life person from history. Griselda is a Netflix crime show in the same vein as Narcos and Queen of the South, and like those series, it takes an intimate look at a notorious figure in the history of the drug trade. Sofía Vergara stars as the titular Griselda Blanco, a Colombian drug lord who began operating in Miami, Florida in the 1980s, eventually coming to be known as the "Godmother of Cocaine".
The show follows Blanco's rise up through the ranks of the drug trade, and her conflict with the cartels who are anxious about her power grab. Griselda is shockingly violent at times and deeply real about the consequences of a life in the cocaine business, and it never shies away from revealing the depths Blanco sank to.

This article contains spoilers for the USA Network show Queen of the South.
Queen of the South ended back in June 2021, but the beloved series had critical questions surrounding its finale, and we finally have some key insights into the why and how of it all courtesy of producer Dailyn Rodriguez (who is currently a producer and co-showrunner of Netflix's The Lincoln Lawyer). Unlike many other crime shows, the antihero does not die at the end of Queen of the South, with Teresa (played by Alice Braga) getting a different fate. The ending was not easy, according to Rodriguez: "We really had to figure out a way to make that work." In the end (literally) it would take an in-depth understanding of audiences, the character, the relationship between both, and the history of similar characters across movies and television. Rodriguez said:

Back in 1980, author Philip Nicholson, writing as A. J. Quinnell, introduced the world to a man named Creasy, an American-born former French Foreign Legion soldier, in the pages of his novel Man on Fire. While Creasy would return for four more novels – The Perfect Kill (1992), The Blue Ring (1993), Black Horn (1994), and Message From Hell (1996) – it’s Man on Fire that has received the most attention over the year, being turned into a film that starred Scott Glenn in 1987 and one that starred Denzel Washington in 2004. Now, Man on Fire is serving as the basis of a Netflix TV series that’s set to star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman) as Creasey – and The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Alice Braga (Queen of the South), Scoot McNairy (Speak No Evil), and Paul Ben-Victor (Nobody Wants This) have signed on to play recurring roles on the show.

The horror film The Exorcism, which was formerly known as The Georgetown Project and stars Russell Crowe, received a theatrical release in North America on June 21st (you can read our review Here) – and now we’ve learned that it’s scheduled for VOD release just two and half weeks after it hit the big screen. As of July 9th, genre fans will have the chance to watch The Exorcism in the comfort of their own home.
Crowe recently played real-life exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth in the supernatural horror film The Pope’s Exorcist, which could turn out to be a franchise starter. He actually worked on this movie before making The Pope’s Exorcist – in fact, The Exorcism was first announced four and a half years ago. So it’s good to see it finally making its way out into the world.

August’s New Nordic Films, Scandinavia’s biggest second-half-of-the-year film market, will open with drama-thriller “Way Home” from Charlotte Sieiling, a concept director on the original “The Bridge” and “Borgen.”
The screening will mark the world premiere of “Way Home,” sold by LevelK and produced by Denmark’s Toolbox Film.
“This movie means a lot to me, and I really hope the Nordic audience and the world will embrace our effort to tell this father-son story in an environment so different from ours, but still part of our reality,” said Sieling.
Sieling’s latest film, “Margrete – Queen of the North,” a lavish, stately historical drama,” in Variety’s words, asked t what extent a monarch would subordinate vital interest of state to personal interest. “Way Home” poses a similar question – how far are you willing to go to save the people you love? – in an entirely different context. [Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Dark Matter Season 1.]Apple TV+'s sci-fi adaptation Dark Matter has concluded Season 1, but is that all there is to the story? According to author and showrunner Blake Crouch and executive producer Matt Tolmach (Venom: The Last Dance), yes, Season 1 was created to be "the best representation of the book as possible." However, a series format opens a whole box of possibilities, and Crouch isn't opposed to exploring more characters. In fact, maybe that even leaves room to revisit Alice Braga's (Queen of the South) fan-favorite, Amanda Lucas?...

The Exorcisms Joshua John Miller compares watching Russell Crowe work to seeing a volcano. Although he is the son of Jason Miller, who starred as Damien Karras in The Exorcist, the director of The Exorcism doesnt believe in curses, even the one often associated with the 1973 classic. The Exorcism is now playing in theaters, but the horror film only registers 30% on the Tomatometer, at the time of this writing.
Russell Crowe might as well have been a powerful, active volcano as far as The Exorcisms director and co-writer Joshua John Miller is concerned. Millers new horror film is now playing in theaters, and the co-developer of Queen of the South was tasked with guiding The Exorcism's Oscar-winning star through the making of the movie. And in a brand-new interview, Miller revealed it was like witnessing a volcano where watching Crowe was concerned. Miller told Cbr:

Joshua J Miller and M.A. Fortin's new horror film, The Exorcism, prompts comparisons to Russell Crowe's previous movie, The Pope's Exorcist, despite different intentions. Miller and Fortin believe that the close release of the two films will actually lead to them having "a conversation" with one another and result in fun double features. With the similar genre movies releasing within one year of each other, eyes are on whether The Exorcism can match The Pope's Exorcist success, and despite poor reviews for the former, the 2023 movie's overcoming of its mixed reviews could see a repeat.
With the two coming out in close succession to one another, Joshua J Miller and M.A. Fortin address the comparisons between The Exorcism and The Pope's Exorcist. The duo, best known for the meta horror comedy The Final Girls and crime thriller Queen of the South, co-wrote the new Russell Crowe horror movie,...

Ryan Simpkins continues their reign in the horror genre with The Exorcism as Lee Miller, tackling a unique and meta twist to the subgenre. Simpkins prepared for the role by rewatching The Exorcist and drawing inspiration from Ellen Burstyn's performance. Simpkins had a natural rapport with Russell Crowe on set, highlighting his loyalty and giving nature as an actor.
Ryan Simpkins makes their return to the horror genre with The Exorcism. Sibling to the Jurassic World and Insidious franchise star Ty Simpkins, Ryan first broke out on the big screen with the crime thriller Pride and Glory and the period drama Revolutionary Road. They've since steadily built a name for themselves in the horror genre akin to their brother, including Francis Ford Coppola's Twixt, 2015's Anguish, and Netflix's Fear Street Part Two: 1978.

Joshua J Miller and M.A. Fortin bring a subversive approach to horror with The Exorcism, exploring addiction and trauma. Russell Crowe leads the cast of the horror movie, though Ryan Simpkins and Chloe Bailey's characters highlight the expectation-subverting approach to the subgenre. Joshua John Miller and his personal and creative partner, M.A. Fortin, never set out to make a movie about an exorcism because, as Fortin says to Miller, “Your father stars in the greatest one of all time.”
Miller’s dad was the actor Jason Miller, who played Father Damien Karras in “The Exorcist.” He often told Joshua stories of the purportedly haunted set, recounting fires that started around the production and the injuries and deaths that would impact those who worked on the film.
That real-life experience was one of the big inspirations for “The Exorcism,” a new movie Joshua directed and co-wrote with Fortin, in which Russell Crowe plays Anthony Miller, an actor portraying a priest in what looks to be a modern “Exorcist” remake while living with his estranged daughter Lee (Ryan Simpkins).

USA Network is reentering the scripted originals space.
The NBCUniversal-owned basic cable network has handed out a straight-to-series order for a reboot of The Rainmaker, from producers Lionsgate TV and Blumhouse TV, marking its first non-shared scripted series since 2020.

The drama is the only scripted original to air on the network that previously ranked as the most watched cable network for a dozen years straight.
Based on the best-selling 1995 novel by John Grisham and subsequent 1997 feature film adaptation starring Matt Damon, Claire Danes, Jon Voight and Danny DeVito, The Rainmaker revolves around Rudy Baylor, a fresh out of law school attorney who goes head to head with courtroom lion Leo Drummond, as well as his law school girlfriend. It may not have been his plan, but Russell Crowe is capitalizing on the return of the iconic “The Exorcist” franchise with separate standalone religious horror films “The Exorcism,” out June 7, and 2023’s “The Pope’s Exorcist.”
Crowe leads Joshua John Miller’s “The Exorcism” as an actor facing demons — maybe literal ones. Consider it a meta twist: The film centers on Anthony Miller (Crowe), a troubled actor who begins to unravel while shooting a supernatural horror film. Sure enough, a trailer for The Exorcism has just arrived online, and you can check it out in the embed above!
So it’s good to see that it’s finally making its way out into the world.

A couple days ago, Vertical announced that they will be giving the horror film The Exorcism (formerly known as The Georgetown Project), which stars Russell Crowe, a North American theatrical release on June 7th, with the streaming rights going to Shudder. Now the Motion Picture Association ratings board has revealed that they have given The Exorcism an R rating – and we’ve learned that the film’s trailer will be dropping online tomorrow!
The Exorcism has been rated R for language, some violent content, sexual references and brief drug use. This isn’t the first time the movie has been given an R rating, as it was previously given an R for the exact same reasons last June, when it was still going by the title The Georgetown Project.

Vertical has acquired North American rights to the horror film “The Exorcism,” starring Oscar winner Russell Crowe. It will be released this summer.
If this sounds vaguely familiar, that’s because Crowe also starred in an exorcism movie last year, the underrated “The Pope’s Exorcist.”
The new film follows Anthony Miller (Crowe), “a troubled actor who begins to unravel while shooting a supernatural horror film.” His estranged daughter (Ryan Simpkins) then starts to wonder if he’s slipped back into his addict past or if there’s something more supernatural at work.
“The Exorcism” was directed and co-written (with M.A. Fortin) by Joshua John Miller, who started his career as an actor (one of his first roles was as the little vampire kid in Kathryn Bigelow’s classic “Near Dark”). His father Jason Miller portrayed Father Damien Karras in “The Exorcist,” while his mother Susan Bernard appeared in “Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!...

Russell Crowe recently played real-life exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth in the supernatural horror film The Pope’s Exorcist, which could turn out to be a franchise starter… but before Crowe made that movie, he made a different supernatural thriller that deals with exorcism. Four and a half years have gone by since it was announced that Crowe had signed on to star in a film that was then known as The Georgetown Project, with Joshua John Miller directing. Now retitled The Exorcism, that film has been acquired by Vertical for a North American theatrical release that’s scheduled for June 7th. The streaming rights are in the hands of Shudder.
