Bambi: The Reckoning ,From Disney Darling to Public Domain exploitation (And Why Your Childhood is Officially Cancelled)
So, Bambi, that wide-eyed fawn who taught us the harsh realities of forest life and the importance of not trusting men with guns, has officially kicked down the velvet ropes and stumbled into the chaotic mosh pit of the public domain. Yes, folks, as of January 2021, Bambi is free! Free to be… anything. And by “anything,” I mean apparently, a vengeful woodland terror.
Now, it took a few years for the creative minds of the “Poohverse” to realize the potential. Apparently, someone finally yelled, “Wait a minute! We can make Bambi a slasher flick!” And thus, a cinematic masterpiece was born.
Because, clearly, nothing says timeless childhood classic like turning your favorite animated characters into vengeful monsters. The Poohverse—a horror-themed cinematic experiment that began with Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey—set the stage for this twisted reimagining.

Barry, a small town in southern Wales is known for its beautiful beaches, for being, in the early 20th century, the world’s largest coal exporter, and, for fans of low-budget horror, as the Detroit of scary puppet movies. From this picturesque seaside village, Lawrence Fowler and his father Geoff are steadily turning out evil doll films. Son Lawrence writes and directs the tales of toy people doing nasty things to gentle folk in old castles and country manors. Dad Geoff, a tinkerer of that very British sort, builds the puppets.

Three mystery celebrities hit the stage for the Season 7 finale of “The Masked Singer” on Wednesday night. Firefly, Prince and Ringmaster all sang their hearts out in hopes of winning the Golden Mask trophy, but it was the winged diva who came out on top. Ultimately Firefly won over the live audience and panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger following performances of “Bad Girl” by Usher and “Lost Without U” by Robin himself. After winning the title Firefly was revealed to be singer, dancer and actress Teyana Taylor.
“I thought this would be something really nice to do and just be able to sing and have fun again,” the entertainer told host Nick Cannon during her unmasked interview. “There’s no judgment. Nobody knows who’s behind the mask, you can just sing your heart out.” Teyana’s husband Iman Shumpert has had reality TV success of his own,...

Fox execs finally addressed the controversy surrounding Rudy Giuliani being cast on “The Masked Singer,” and according to Rob Wade, the president of alternative entertainment & specials at Fox Entertainment, the company has “no regrets.”
The network brass was asked about Giuliani’s casting on Monday morning during a conference call announcing the network’s new fall lineup. “Yeah, absolutely no regrets,” Wade said. “The marketing is all about delivering jaw dropping moments, which is exactly what the casting accomplished. And whether it was on set or with the viewers at home I suppose my only regret or surprise was obviously the reveal was spoiled [by the press], but kudos to you guys. Just please don’t do it again. Thanks a lot.”

Fox bosses have defended the casting of Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump’s former lawyer who helped spread baseless lies that the 2020 Presidential election was stolen, on The Masked Singer.
Rob Wade, President, Alternative Entertainment and Specials, Fox Entertainment, said he had “absolutely no regrets” on the move.
“The Masked Singer is all about delivering jaw-dropping moments, which is exactly what [we] accomplished whether it was on set or with the viewers at home,” he added.
Wade joked about Deadline’s scoop on the casting. “My only regret or surprise was obviously that the reveal was spoiled but kudos to [Deadline], please just don’t do it again.
The former Mayor of New York was unmasked on the reality singing competition on April 20, months after Deadline revealed that his casting had already caused consternation among some of the show’s judging panel – particularly Ken Jeong, who immediately crossed his arms and walked off the stage.

Fox has even more costumes and tunes in store with The Masked Singer set to return for its eighth season.
On Monday the network revealed the official season 8 order for the long-running celebrity singing competition. The Masked Singer is among a number of reality series set to return in the 2022-2023 season including Crime Scene Kitchen, Next Level Chef and more.
The renewal comes as little surprise considering The Masked Singer has been a steady performer for Fox. The series consistently marks the network’s top Wednesday primetime title.
There has been talk that the eighth season of the show, which has filmed in LA, may move settings with Las Vegas touted as one possibility.

Rudy who?
The “Road to the Finals” episode of “The Masked Singer,” which aired May 11 on Fox, showed clips, interviews and behind-the-scenes moments from Season 7, but one celebrity was noticeably missing: Rudy Giuliani. To be clear, every other unmasked contestant from this “Good, Bad and Ugly” cycle was prominently featured in the recap episode (see the list below). Obviously, the former New York City Mayor and personal attorney to Donald Trump was the most controversial figure to ever appear on the reality TV singing show. But after going through all the trouble of casting him and letting him perform on the big stage, we’re admittedly surprised to now see “The Masked Singer” cancel Rudy Giuliani.

Rudy Giuliani was finally revealed on “The Masked Singer” this week and, as was first reported back in February, judge Ken Jeong did in fact walk off the stage. And now, seeing how things actually went down, viewers are praising the move.
The former New York City mayor-turned-Trump lawyer was unmasked as the Jack in the Box, and became the first contestant eliminated from Round 3 of the competition after a rendition of George Thorogood’s “Bad to the Bone.”
Jeong appeared absolutely stunned when Giuliani’s face was revealed, saying nothing. The judge remained stoic as host Nick Cannon completed his typical unmasking interview, asking Giuliani why he came on the show, considering the controversy surrounding him. When Giuliani officially began his swan song, doing a short reprise of “Bad to the Bone,” Jeong could be seen saying “I’m done,” and calmly walked off stage.

The Jack in the Box finally blew its lid on Wednesday’s episode of The Masked Singer, revealing former New York City mayor and advisor to President Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, underneath the mask. Giuliani’s appearance on Fox‘s hit competition series was reported by Deadline earlier this year, which noted that judges Ken Jeong and Robin Thicke walked off set following the unmasking. Finally, on Wednesday night, viewers at home got to witness the controversial moment for themselves. The unmasking was met with gasps and looks of shock from the studio audience, while host Nick Cannon was also stunned. Jeong, meanwhile, did not look amused and sat with his arms folded. Fellow judge Nicole Scherzinger seemed confused by all the commotion and asked Jeong, “Is that Robert Duvall?” (a guess Thicke had made earlier). After telling her that it was not The Godfather actor, Jeong exited the stage down the steps.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season 7, Episode 7, of “The Masked Singer,” “Don’t Mask, Don’t Tell — The Good, the Bad and the Cuddly Round 3,” which aired April 20 on Fox.
Well, that happened. In what was largely an anticlimactic end to what we were all bracing for this season on Fox’s “The Masked Singer,” disgraced former attorney Rudolph Giuliani showed up, sang an off-key and off-putting version of “Bad to the Bone” by George Thorogood and the Destroyers and then was unmasked as the Jack in the Box.
The show’s Wednesday episode teased the Giuliani reveal as “the biggest event in ‘Masked Singer’ history” — which was perhaps true, at least until the show casts O.J. Simpson next season.
Panelist Ken Jeong was not pleased as reported: “No, that’s not Robert Duvall” (one of the top guesses), he said, arms folded and clearly appalled at the casting.

We've seen drama on The Masked Singer—but never anything like this. Following a performance of "Bad to the Bone" by George Thorogood & The Destroyers, mysterious celebrity singer Jack in the Box was revealed to be Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor and personal attorney to President Donald Trump. The presence of Giuliani, who was put under federal investigation for violating lobbying laws in 2019 and had his New York law license suspended in 2021, did not sit well with panelist Ken Jeong. After Jack in the Box's headpiece was removed, panelist Nicole Scherzinger asked Jeong, "Is that Robert Duvall?" Despondently, Jeong answered "No, that's not...

After seven seasons on the air, “The Masked Singer” is still making history. First a contestant choked on stage, then she stormed off in a diva fit. Now, a costume had to be warned by production not to defecate on camera. Yep, you read that right. “They told me that I could do anything I wanted out here except poop on the stage,” revealed Baby Mammoth during the April 20 episode. “And so I’m gonna take a very big win. Because although you can poop in the circus, you are not allowed on this show.”
The four panelists — Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger — were gobsmacked at hearing the fluffy pink elephant say that. Talk about Tmi! “That’s right, Baby Mammoth, that’s right,” Ken declared as if speaking to a toddler. Hmm, do they even make diapers big enough for a creature of her size?...

Elon Musk made headlines Thursday when it came out that he’s offered to buy Twitter outright for 43 billion in cash in order to take the company private, which he claims is necessary to protect “free speech.”
In the cold open gag from Thursday’s “The Late Show,” Stephen Colbert suggested there might be another plan in mind: Make Earth suck so much people want to leave, which would benefit Musk’s private spaceflight company SpaceX, which apparently involves weaponizing Musk’s juvenile sense of humor.
As always the cold open began with a supercut of news explaining the premise. Then came the joke, a fake SpaceX commercial.
“At SpaceX, we’re on a mission to send humankind to Mars. Many still feel reluctant about interplanetary travel. But our founder, Elon Musk, has an idea to change that: Make Earth really bad,” the fake ad says.

Did “The Masked Singer” panelists and superfans get it wrong in last week’s Group A finals when they voted to advance Firefly to the finale, thereby eliminating Thingamabob and Cyclops? That’s what the vast majority of “Tms” viewers said in our recent poll. When asked who Really deserved a spot in the Season 7 finale, only 16% picked Firefly. Conversely, Thingamabob earned a whopping 75% of our users’ votes, making him the clear fan favorite.
Here are the complete “The Masked Singer” poll results:
75% — Thingamabob
16% — Firefly
5% — Cyclops
4% — None of these

This season is an epic battle between The Good, The Bad and The Cuddly, with Firefly representing Team Good. While the ultimate finale will feature a three-way battle for the Golden Crown, it is not necessarily guaranteed that one costume from each theme will make it that far. That’s because Group A,...

The Masked Singer returned to Fox for its seventh season with a slew of good, bad and cuddly contestants.
“Welcome to the premiere you’ve been waiting for,” said host Nick Cannon. “It’s the most bonkers season yet.”
You may have already assumed that given that the reality competition series has its most controversial character yet lined up – Deadline revealed earlier this month that Donald Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who propagated the lie that the 2020 election was stolen, caused judges Ken Jeong and Robin Thicke to walk off stage after he was unmasked.
Giuliani, however, does not feature in the season opener, you’ll have to wait for that.
[Spoiler Alert] Tonight’s evictee, dressed as McTerrier, was Duff Goldman, pastry chef and star of Food Network series including Ace of Cakes and Duff Till Dawn.
Goldman, who sang Loverboy’s “Working for the Weekend,” had quite the eventful episode.

If you tuned into Wednesday’s Masked Singer Season 7 premiere to see the chaos that allegedly ensued when former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani reportedly was unmasked as a contestant… better luck later this season?
The well-known advisor to former President Donald Trump was nowhere to be seen during the episode, despite reports that his unmasking in the season’s first episode caused some of the show’s judges to walk off the set in protest. (Fox declined to comment on the original report and had no comment when TVLine checked in Wednesday.)

An unsavoury oedipal pact provides the only original note in a sequel that otherwise goes through the motions
By this point there is surely no way back for the clowning profession: every minor horror movie knows it can serve up a demonic pierrot as a bogeyman. With this sequel to 2019’s The Jack in the Box, Lawrence Fowler’s would-be franchise doubles down on the eponymous creepy toy by having its hellspawn harlequin manifest once the crank is turned. It’s rather beholden to The Conjuring (and uses the same title font) and, while writer-director Fowler obviously knows his horror, he doesn’t really show enough imagination here to blaze a bloody trail of his own.
The knick-knack of the title is delivered to the country mansion of Olga Marsdale (Nicola Wright), a rich collector of vintage toys who is bedridden with bone cancer. Aware of its cursed past, she...

Stars: Jack Rowan, Michael Hough, Fra Fee, Robert Nairne, Nigel O’Neill, Louisa Harland | Written and Directed by Chris Baugh
Despite its title Boys from County Hell isn’t another backwoods hicksploitation film. It’s actually an Irish horror comedy that pits a road crew against the Emerald Isle’s own species of bloodsucker. Writer/director Chris Baugh (Bad Day for the Cut) has expanded the short he did with co-writer Brendan Mullin to feature-length, and the results definitely don’t suck.
Eugene (Jack Rowan; Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands) lives in Six Mile Hill, a rural Irish town where, according to legend, Bram Stoker got the inspiration for Dracula. Eugene and his buddies S.P. and William (Fra Fee; Monochrome) get a bit of amusement scaring tourists who’ve come to see the cairn that marks the grave of Abhartach the legendary bloodsucker who inspired Stoker.
But all is not well in Eugene’s life.

May’s home media releases are off to a great start, as genre fans have a lot to get excited for this week. Two of the best genre films of the year are heading to both Blu-ray and DVD on Tuesday: Osgood Perkins’ Gretel & Hansel and The Lodge from Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala. Tigers Are Not Afraid (which was one of my favorite films of 2019) is getting the Steelbook treatment this week, and if you weren’t able to catch it in theaters, Bloodshot hits various formats as well.
Other Blu-ray and DVD releases for May 5th include Exorcism at 60,000 Feet, The House In Between, Cry Havoc, Insecticidal, and Becoming.

Based on the bestselling comic book, Vin Diesel stars as Ray Garrison, a soldier recently killed in action and brought back to life as the superhero Bloodshot by the Rst corporation. With an army of nanotechnology in his veins,...

While all of the major studios mull over whether to release their big summer movies on streaming services due to theaters closing because of the coronavirus pandemic, it’s a perfect time for small, low-budget films to have their moment. Preferably in the horror genre. Which is why I give you, The Jack in the Box.
We recently got a trailer for Abominable, which is about a group of poor folks who get picked off one by one by a crazed yeti. And before that there was Uncaged, about a killer lion. But now we come to The Jack in the Box, not to be confused with the popular fast food chain.
The movie follows a group of people who discover an old Jack in the Box toy. After its donation to a museum, an employee named Casey begins to believe that the toy is responsible for the deaths of his fellow co-workers.

"Jack in the boxes were originally built in France to contain evil entities." 4Digital Media has unveiled an official trailer for a crazy low budget horror film titled The Jack in the Box, a new clown horror film from Welsh director Lawrence Fowler. We all know these freaky little jack in the box toys, so why not make one of them come alive. What an original horror concept, right? When a vintage Jack-in-the-box is unearthed and opened, its new owners soon have reason to believe the creepy clown doll hiding within has a life of its own. Starring Ethan Taylor, Robert Nairne, Lucy-Jane Quinlan, Philip Ridout, and Darrie Gardner. Described as "a heart stopping horror that will fuel your fear of clowns," if the two It movies didn't already do that for you. This seems like one of those bargain bin horror movies you'll probably never watch anyway. Here's the...

Every major studio in Hollywood is currently closed down for the foreseeable future, which means it will be awhile before we see any major blockbuster trailers coming our way. So we're having to settle for some bottom of the bucket B-Movies that usually wouldn't get much attention heading into the summer. Luckily the new horror outing The Jack in the Box looks worthy of our attention, if not just for the terrifying poster alone. We also have the first trailer, which unlocks a terrifying demon clown from inside a toy Jack-in-the-Box. Pop goes the Weasel has never been more scary.

The Jack in the Box is a United Kingdom shot feature. Already released in this territory, the film is prepping for a U.S. release on DVD. In the story, a museum receives an ancient artifact. But, when the crank is turned, something emerges from within. From director Lawrence Fowler (Curse of the Witch's Doll), The Jack in the Box stars: Ethan Taylor (Blood and Bone), Robert Nairne (In the Trap) and Lucy-Jane Quinlan. The Jack in the Box is expected to release this May. A few early reviews have filtered out of the United Kingdom. Phil Wheat at Nerdly mentions the creepiness of the antagonist: "in doll form [it] is creepy enough to scare anyone but who comes alive in a more grotesque, terrifying manner when finding victims." It grows in power - the more it kills. Dante at 10th Circle also mentions how the villain stands out: "the clown that is really a demon.
